Coach until told otherwise

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, January 25th, 2010 at 4:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.

There are two ways for a head coach to deal with the sort of uncertainty brought to bear by the Raiders.

There’s the Lane Kiffin approach _ show up at the Senior Bowl without a Raiders shield in sight, wearing a gray hat with an NFL logo, decline comment on the record, but send out as many smoke signals as possible to let people know Al Davis has stripped the coach of any authority and that continued employment isn’t necessarily a foregone conclusion.

Or there’s the Bill Callahan approach _ named “captain of the coaches” following the trade of Jon Gruden to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he simply rolled up his sleeves, went to work and conducted himself as a head coach should until finally informed three weeks later when invited by Davis to talk about a contract to be head coach.

As Cable surfaces in Mobile, Ala., this week for the Pro Bowl, expect him the Callahan approach. If Cable talks at all, it will be something along the lines of what he said at the end of the season. He’s already on record as saying he thought he’d be back, no reason to alter that approach now. He’ll wear the right gear and may even have “Team of the Decades” stamped on his forehead.

The Callahan and Cable situations, other than the fact that they’re both offensive line coaches who at the time had the support of their respective locker rooms (that changed dramatically for Callahan following the 2003 season), were dramatically different in that the former was the natural choice to lead a veteran team coming off consecutive division titles and the latter is 9-19 with a youthful team that has no history of success.

Unless Davis has told Cable directly he will remain on the job _ something even Adam Schefter’s definitive “Cable will return story” didn’t claim _ he’s simply working on the assumption he will be the coach until told otherwise.

Judging by how Cable handled the Randy Hanson and ESPN firestorms, he’s not going to need a vote of confidence, whether public or private, to remain sane.

Kiffin, who said later he understood his first-year “honeymoon” to be over after a 4-12 season, couldn’t handle not knowing what Davis was saying and doing behind his back. He couldn’t believe it when he someone outside the organization told him James Lofton had been hired as the wide receivers coach without his knowledge. Kiffin had talked with Lofton, but that was as far as it went.

He played the martyr and began planning an exit strategy.

The silence never seemed to bother Callahan. He was the obvious choice for the job, and many, including myself, figured he’d been told beforehand and that the Raiders simply had elected not to make the decision public. They’d tell us when they felt like it.

The assumption turned out to be wrong. Callahan wasn’t called in to talk contract until March 12 and his hiring was announced March 13.

Davis explained why he proceded that way the following day when Callahan was introduced.

“I wanted to see and we wanted to see Bill function in that role to see how the organization would operate, how would we do in the free-agent market,” Davis said. “And we felt after a short period of time we could compete with anyone.”

The same thing is going on with Cable. Davis is waiting and watching. Even if he’s already decided Cable will be back, there’s no reason to tell him or even his own public relations staff. No reason to let him get comfortable.

Extra points

– The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting the Chicago Bears hope to interview Hue Jackson for their offensive coordinator opening. Jackson interviewed with the Raiders for an undisclosed position, believed to be offensive coordinator. The Raiders said they have conducted no interviews for the head coaching position.

ESPN is reporting Jackson will meet with the Bears Tuesday.

– Looking for some kind of Raiders angle in this year’s Super Bowl? None of their castoffs have made it to this year’s big game _ not a player on either roster who has spent time with the Raiders.

Instead, you’ve got Aaron Kromer, the Saints running game and offensive line coach. Kromer, by the way, worked for the Raiders under Gruden and with Gruden at Tampa Bay and is an aspiring offensive coordinator under Sean Payton.

Hmm . . .

– When tight end Dallas Clark made the Super Bowl, a Miller was elevated to the Pro Bowl from alternate status. Unfortunately, it was Heath Miller, the first alternate from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and not Zach Miller, the second alternate from the Raiders.

Heath Miller caught 76 passes for 789 yards and six touchdowns, Zach Miller had 66 receptions for 805 yards and three touchdowns.

– Peyton Manning insists his young receivers, such as Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, do an extra hour and a half of film study with him one day a week. That’s above and beyond what they do with their position groups.

You’ll notice the Colts aren’t huge into shifts and motions, either. They just kill you with precision execution that comes from repetitive practice and a gifted quarterback who gets angry if things aren’t perfect.

The Raiders aren’t big into shifts and motions, either. But it’s as if the two teams, when it comes to the passing game, aren’t even playing the same sport.

Of course it’s a game of talent, but it’s also huge parts coaching and executing, matching players to a scheme, and getting those players to think and play as one.

He’s actually going to Mobile, Ala. to retrieve JaHushpuppy, who has already gained 150 lbs in the young off-season, and has become fused to a leather LazyBoy recliner. Tom Cable will supply the chainsaw that will be used to cut a hole out of the wall to remove Russle from the house. The local fire department will be on hand with the famed “Jaws of Life”, if necessary.

This is getting old Al. It’s obviously Cable next year. Who else would want to work with this crap going on? If Cable doesn’t want to work with Russell next year, it’s because Russell sucks. Why should the Raider Nation have to suffer through another year of this because Al made a horrible, lame, stoopid decision on Russell? I wouldn’t hire Russell to walk my dog, let alone lead my team on the field.

  9. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

First of all: Its JaDavis Russell.

Second of all: Any comparisons of anything to do with the Colts and Raiders is a waste of time. The Raiders lead the league in outright baffoonery, stupidity, incompetence and all other sorts of ineptness….a real stupid organization

JaDavis Russell working extra hours? Give me a break…JaDavis is the biggest hustler around, he doesn’t care about ball…his family is set! Not in a culture that doesn’t push players….the Al Davis culture

This team is a rank joke. The way they attempt to do things…how easily they are distracted and the stupid decisions they make.

Just watch to enjoy Sundays…there are only 16 regular season games a year

  10. Pretty Rick Says:

This is just plain stupid. If Cable’s gonna stay then why in the hell do they not just say “Cable’s gonna stay”? otherwise just pull the damn trigger and fire him! I hope Al isnt waiting to make a run at one of the OCs from the Super Bowl teams, only to get turned down for interviews like he did with Weisinhunt. I wouldnt be mad if he made a run at Frazier, but damn,,,do something!!! Jeez!!!

  11. M Lonetree Says:

Jamarcus Russell, with an extensive and intensive personal training regimen in Phoenix this off-season re-appears at the OTAs with the balletic grace and fire of another big man, Lebron James.

Gone is the beanie and the mink, replaced with a blue collar work ethic and a new precision with his quarterbacking.

Endless hours poring over film and schemes drives him to be completely reformed in his reads and acumen.

Working tirelessly with his receivers he develops a rapport with them a la Manning.

    OR

A coupla sessions with the trainer results in boredom and after being crowned King Elexis he repares to his front porch for some sippin’, some puffin’, some good eatin’ and a nap.

  12. dtrain Says:

    Pretty,
It’s not stupid. Cable is the head coach of the Raiders. Al doesn’t owe anyone an explanation till it is otherwise. The only reports you read are reporters wanting to know what’s going on. Cable is being reviewed like every single other coach at the end of the year. It’s just that the press here can’t handle it without having exact words come down from the front office.

  13. M Lonetree Says:

Cable staying is admitting defeat. Not really something ya wanna advertise to any great extent.

Yell from the mountaintops, “CABLE IS STAYING!!!”

    inspiring.

    thud.

  14. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

Look, we just have to hope the Raiders can hit the roulette wheel.

There is precious little strategy or reason to what they do. They rely on cast off coaches and high motor talentless players to move the team forward.

Hopefully JaDavis decides to do more than go throught the motions

  20. Richard Bentley Says:

OK, I want to clear the air a little here. Tom Cable has been through the closest thing to emotional hell short of a combat zone. Not only working for Al, which is a strain for anybody, and coaching an inconsistent at best football team with a regressing and raw quarterback, he has been subjected to vilification and abuse by the media, the fans, and persons making false allegations.

I give below statements from individuals directly associated with Cable either domestically or in line with any official investigation:

The District Attorney on Hanson’s allegations:

Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein announced this afternoon that his office has completed its review of the extensive and excellent investigation by the Napa Police Department, including police reports, medical records, interviews of several witnesses present at the time of the incident in question, as well as multiple statements by the alleged victim, Randy Hanson. District Attorney Lieberstein stated, “We have concluded that the facts and evidence developed do not warrant criminal charges be brought against Tom Cable in regards to an incident which occurred on August 5, 2009 in a hotel room at the Oakland Raiders’ training camp in Napa.”
In order to better appreciate the time and process involved in reviewing this matter, it is important to understand the duties of the District Attorney in determining whether or not to file criminal charges. The central job of a prosecutor is to seek justice. Prosecutors are ethically required not to prosecute cases when they believe that it is unlikely that a jury would reach a verdict of guilty beyond a reasonable doubt based on the evidence and facts known to them, and/or that it would not be in the interests of justice to bring such charges. It is the conclusion of this office, therefore, that we do not believe a jury would convict Mr. Cable of any offenses beyond a reasonable doubt.
In applying the above standards, a review of the most credible evidence and likely testimony at trial would establish that there were no blows or punches thrown at or near Randy Hanson, nor were any verbal threats made by Tom Cable towards Mr. Hanson. Based on our review, it appears that during a discussion amongst coaches and Mr. Cable regarding Mr. Hanson’s future with the Oakland Raiders, Mr. Cable became angry and rushed toward Mr. Hanson. At that juncture, one of the other coaches in the room stepped in between the two and Mr. Cable bumped into him, which in turn caused that coach to bump into Mr. Hanson’s chair in which he was leaning back, with his feet upon the table. As a result of the force, Mr. Hanson fell over, at which time he most likely fractured his jaw. This conclusion is supported by the statements of independent witnesses present in the room, including and especially the coach who bumped into Mr. Hanson’s chair. The same witnesses did state that after Mr. Hanson was on the ground, Mr. Cable grabbed him by the shirt . The witnesses also made it clear, however, that at no time during this incident did Mr. Cable strike Mr. Hanson.
Another significant factor affecting our decision is the history of the investigation. This incident allegedly took place at approximately noon on August 5th. The incident was not reported to the police. Later that night, Mr. Hanson went to Queen of the Valley Hospital for an examination. He told them that he had been assaulted but refused to provide details and, when advised that the police would have to be notified per California law, he objected. When the police arrived, Mr. Hanson gave them very few details, refusing to give them important information such as identifying the alleged attacker. As a result of his lack of cooperation, police were unable to locate the room where this had taken place and process it for physical evidence that might have assisted in determining what happened.
Between that date and the end of September, Mr. Hanson declined to be interviewed by police. Again, this postponement in the investigation contributed to the delay in our decision making process. When he did finally come in for an interview, he did so in the presence of his attorney and, for example, refused to explain why he had previously refused the Napa Police Department’s previous attempts to obtain a statement from him. His attorney objected to the question as being privileged. After further discussion, Mr. Hanson basically said he was there because the police asked him and his attorney advised him to do so. The interview he gave was inconsistent with the original short statement he made, leaving out significant facts such as what was taking place prior to Mr. Cable moving towards him.
Subsequently, Mr. Hanson provided an interview to a reporter detailing more facts than he had given to the officer, some of which were inconsistent with previous statements.
A follow-up interview with Mr. Hanson yesterday afternoon failed to clear up the significant inconsistencies in his prior statements.
It should be further noted that within the past week and a half, Mr. Hanson showed up unannounced at the police department and made a statement to the effect that since the Raiders had not given him what he asked for, he would now fully cooperate with the prosecution.
All of these facts and more would be before a jury including the history, the inconsistent statements, and the lack of any evidence from the room in the event that criminal charges would have been filed. Furthermore, felonious assault requires that the assault be willful. The evidence is overwhelming that Mr. Cable did not intend to inflict the injury suffered.
In announcing his office’s decision, District Attorney Lieberstein emphasized that while this case has gained significant attention in the national sports media, it is similar to any other potential criminal case in that it involves serious allegations that, if filed and proven, would have a significant effect on many lives.
Lieberstein concluded that, “our duty is to do the right thing for the right reasons. Under the facts and circumstances of this case, it would be a miscarriage of justice to pursue criminal charges and we will not ask our citizens to give up their valuable time for jury duty, nor will we allow our criminal justice system to be compromised.”

    His second ex-wife’s statement:

Tom Cable’s second ex-wife declined to participate in the ESPN report but issued a statement through her attorney, saying:

“I have known Tom Cable for more than 20 years, including 17 years of marriage. Throughout the time I have known him, Tom has never been violent to me or our children. I chose not to speak to the media before now to protect my privacy and that of my children. However, I am very troubled by what is being claimed by others and I felt compelled to speak out about my own lengthy experience with Tom.”

His current wif’es statement about Marie Lutz’ accusations:

Cable’s current wife, Carol, issued this statement through Cable’s attorney:

“I was present at Tom’s house when Marie Lutz came to the house in January of this year. At approximately 5 a.m., we heard someone pounding very loudly on the front door and ringing the doorbell over and over again. When Tom opened the door, Ms. Lutz told him she needed to talk to him, that she needed his help, and begged him to let her into the house. After she entered the house, the two of them had a verbal exchange. At no time did Tom commit any act of violence toward her. After not getting what she wanted from Tom, Ms. Lutz screamed at Tom ‘I am going to ruin your [expletive deleted] life and I am going to ruin your [expletive deleted] career if it is the last thing I ever do.’”

The police were called after this incident and cleared Cable of any wrongdoing.

Do these statements, and the way Tom Cable has conducted himself as coach, indicate a person who is prone to violence.

What really makes me angry is all the people in the media and posting here making the assumption that Cable is guilty of those allegations, which are strongly indicated by the above statements to be FALSE. Yet they go on and on, convinced in their own minds of this man’s guilt. What a lot of crap.

    poor analogy.

it would take a Sizzler dishwasher approximately 150,000 hours of work to make what a minimally paid Head Coach earns in a year in the NFL.
150,000 hours of work is about 19,000 work days.
19,000 work days is about 70 years of washing dishes.

    Pretty,
It’s not stupid.

    ^^^^^^^^^
Wrong….old man Al actually owes explanations to his minority owners/investors and fans of the Raider Nation (especially the ones who waste their money on season tickets on this sad product) on why he makes sorry azz decisions and why he can’t hire a REAL GM/Personnel Man and REAL Head Coach to turn the franchise and team around?

Especially since it’s pretty damn obvious….he sure as hell can’t!

A coupla sessions with the trainer results in boredom and after being crowned King Elexis he repares to his front porch for some sippin’, some puffin’, some good eatin’ and a nap.

You take the points baby, but the Saints got to Favre. The fumbles and turn over might lead one to think the Vikes shot themselves and handed it to N.O., but their D applied serious pressure tha reminded me of Brady and the Giants or how Manning looked against the Pats in recent play offs…

Stats don’t tell everything: Brees was 17-31, 3 TDs 0 ints. And he was horrible. Brees almost choked it away. Notice late in the 4th and OT Sean Payton knew it and call alot of running plays. Most of Brees throws were way off the mark and many plays he held the ball too long.

Brees felt the pressure of having this entire region on his back and how bad this city wanted to get to Super Bowl. The moment was too big for him. He looked like the Brees that made S.D. draft Rivers.

Although few prospects can rival his ability to control the middle of the line, concerns about his weight have raised red flags in some draft rooms.

Mt. Cody in round 3 anybody?

Brees was shaky yesterday, I never seen him throw so many wobblers. Couldn’t even spin off a good spiral at times, and that seems like a confidence issue. Trying to aim it, instead of throwing it.

  127. jhill Says:

    Not surprising ….

Tebow is continuing to struggle under center. His timing and rhythm are off, even for a quarterback working with new receivers. He also seems to be having problems reading the defense, which combined with his elongated release makes him late on some throws. However, he is not hanging his head and is remaining positive and embracing the leadership role.

  128. 504 Raider Says:

    Seymour,

A shrimp and oyster half and half is fried shrimp on one half and fried oysters on the other half. It’s (dressed, what we call it) with shredded lettuce, tomato, mayo, hot sauce and ketchup on 12 inch French Bread. Depending on where you get it, the shrimp and oysters fall off the poboy and there would be enough to make an additional sandwich (on a seperate bun).

  129. NorthernD Says:

I’m amazed that I still see people ranting about drafting Cody. As if watching a slug like JaMarcus wasn’t enough, they want the Raiders to draft a 370 lb sleeping machine.
He’s probably down to 370 after a crash diet.
I’m sure that his weight has caused some red flags, sirens, bells and warning calls of ” LARD AHOY…”

Go back and look through the drafts for the huge linemen drafted in the first. With the rare exception, they almost never pan out. They don’t have the agility to do all that is required of their positions. Coaches don’t want to take out plays from their playbooks, because Mr. Heavy Breather can’t make it to the hole in time.
Pro Bowl rosters are littered with 6-4 and 315.
Guys like Cody, as much fun as it is to speculate on just what he could become, rarely make an impact. Except in the post career belly flop competitions.

Biggest problem with Tebow, IMO, is that windmill delivery. Byron Leftwich, had a stronger arm, but he had a long slow delivery too. He couldn’t thrive in the NFL because of that.

TJ,..its because you call other shows, Gary gets offended,..you call Damon and others,…with Gary thats a death sentence.

  158. Norco Bob Says:

Old Kell,..he just doesnt understand it,..Old Al is a billionaire, and old Kell hangs in a Raider blog obsessed with jealousy…Old Kell, forget it, you will never reach his status, get over it. lol

  159. Norco Bob Says:

D-uh,,,Ima Ima IMA ima IMa…IMA VERY THUCKTHETHFUL REAL ETHTATE MOGUL,..D-UH,…but inthtead of makins big deals,…I I I I live in here, crying that im not a billionaire like Al Davith. d-uh…IMA not jealoth.

  160. Norco Bob Says:

Hey old kell, when youre done changing that diaper,..oh never mond, I can see you now,..screaming in your room all alone, hating to hear the truth. Stupid old fool.

  161. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Norco, are you sure jealousy is the right word to describe our feelings toward Al? I swear..if I were given the chance to trade places with Al, I wouldn’t. A laughing stock and on his death bed. I’m more jealous of Russell than I am of Al.

  162. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Did you get 86′d from player’s pub, Norco? You’re home early.

  163. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I thought about meeting you there, too. Glad I didn’t. Looks like it was an early night for you.

  164. Norco Bob Says:

Nah I went to Poor Reds,..but it was closed,..unsure why.

  165. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Morning Guys…

  166. Norco Bob Says:

I never said everyone was jealous of old Al,..only one person is,..Old Kell,..obsession, jealousy,…cant go an hour without thinking about him,..but Kells old too,..guess old people get weird,…Kells just an angry old fool.

  167. Norco Bob Says:

    Hi La Melissa,..wattup.

  168. Norco Bob Says:

In case you have been keeping score on the DM`s I get from famous people,..just got one tonight from Woody Paige.

  169. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Norco, the only place you’re going to find anyone jealous of Al is a graveyard.

  170. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

And you’d have a tough time finding one there. Most dead people wouldn’t trade places with Al. They’d be wondering what the difference is between that and where they are now.

  171. priesttj Says:

Bob, maybe you think you know who I am. If ever I called Damon it was 3 years ago once and I’ve called Gary maybe 5 times in my life. So maybe you think you know who I am. Ya’ kno’ the pills and all.

I have no problem with any of those guy’s but I haven’t called KNBR in over a year and maybe 5 times in the last 3 years. I don’t do that stuff anymore at all.

That’s why he laughed at you.

  172. priesttj Says:

Everybody in here would love to trade places with Mr Davis let’s get real. All of you idiots think you know more than he does. Most of ya’ don’t know if the balls blownup or stuffed.

  173. Norco Bob Says:

TJ,..maybe it wasnt Damon, I assumed it was because Gary hates his callers to call Damon,..Gary hates Damon,…so whomever you called, well Gary banned you for it…but I made it good bro,..feel free to call again. My man!

  174. La Milicia Negra Says:

    BHP..

probably not, but our ego is not in the way… we would do the sound logic thing and not try to prove we were smart in the 70’s

  175. 909RaiderLifer Says:

    Meanwhile….

I have been in business for the past 23 years. I submitted fair bid on a job…. I was under cut by 40. per cent.. I most likely will have to lay off, another good hand, Now , I’ve got to kick him to the curb?? Hope and Change? my ass….

  176. Norco Bob Says:

Trade places with Al?…how stupid,..who would want to trade places with anyone?…I wouldnt,…live your own life, dont trip about trading lives,..thats real odd,…I dont understand why people who dont know Al Davis feel so strongly about him,..personally I dont give a crap about him….good or bad.

  177. priesttj Says:

    LMN,

sure you would and I wouldn’t give 5Cents to see it. Most of you wouldn’t know the logical thing to do if it bit yu in the ass. Give me a freakin’ break. I read this idiotic crap all the time and maybe 1.5% of you have a clue the rest are out in lalala land.

  178. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

You’re right, Al knows more than me. Trading Gruden, drafting Russell… I’d never question such superior knowledge.

  179. Norco Bob Says:

TJ,…I will assume you are a professor at Stanford,…I cant see you in any other line of work. Am I wrong?

  180. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Priest, Davis rules. Davis/Herrera/Cable. With Russell at QB. Heyward Bey at wideout. Super Bowl. This year.

  181. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    LOL.

  182. Norco Bob Says:

Im still mad he sold Gruden for 8 million,..I never wanted Russell,..but I still dont give a crap about Al Davis,..when Im watching games he never enters my mind…and when hes gone I wont miss him.

  183. Norco Bob Says:

The biggest jerk though is easily Chris Cohan,..worst owner in sports,..and I go to Warrior games.

  184. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Well, I’m obsessed with Al. I like to mess with his loyalists, too.

  185. priesttj Says:

Norco Bob, I trust becaue he readily admits he’s clueless and doesn’t give a damn. He’s just in it for the enjoyment the rest of you think you know, and that is scary.

  186. Norco Bob Says:

Hey this tv show, Parole Board, is awesome.

  187. Norco Bob Says:

    Who you talkin about TJ?

  188. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Norco, Cheech and Chong were on George Lopez. Lopez talked about how he went to Cheech’s house, and it took him 45 minutes to back out of the driveway he was so high.

  189. Norco Bob Says:

You didnt need to tell me that MR,..I saw that 2 years ago,..however I did think you would have moved on by now. Hey if thats how you get your kicks,…but I dont of any loyalists in here.

  190. 909RaiderLifer Says:

(burp!) My bad fer bring my cr@p in here….(I’m drinking the beer somebody left in my fridge,,,, hey! it’s a sh%t job, but i’m just the drunk to do it…)

    AMF…..

  191. Norco Bob Says:

I met Cheech at the celeb golf tourney at Edgewood,..hes cool,…Geouge Lopez too,..havent seen his show.

  192. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I can’t move on. I’m hooked. I know it’s sad. I probably could use some Norcos and booze.

  193. Norco Bob Says:

I wanted to get f`d up tonight, didnt work out though. :(

  194. priesttj Says:

The other owners in the bayarea are ten times as clueless as MR davis and they all supposedly do it the “logical way” and their teams all SUCK!!

So what’s their excuse? why did it take the Saints their entire history to make a SB? The Cards the same and the Jets haven’t been to SB in 45 years and they all domit the “logical way” give me a break will ya’?

  195. Norco Bob Says:

MR,..totally,..no joke,..pop some, with liquor,..I promise you you wont give two shyts about Al Davis anymore. Trust me,..I used ot bag on him,..Cohan,..Lew,..but after a while I realized, they dont know I exist, would laugh if they knew I was mad at them,…so I gave it up,..they arent worth it.

  200. Norco Bob Says:

As far as bay area owners go,..the worst has to be eddie D,..I cant think of another one that the league kicked out and made him give the team his daddy gave him to his baby sister,…and now eddie D has to get Goodells permission to attend a Niner game,…pretty bad,…but I predict he will own a team again,..in L.A.,…you can be a felon in L.A.,..dont matter….by the way, that waitress he assaulted in san mateo is still a millionaire, 2o years later.

  201. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I’ll give it a shot, Norco. I’m starting tonight. Just beer, though.

  202. Norco Bob Says:

  212. Norco Bob Says:

No not raped,..he was drunk in a Peppermill type place,..grabbed her aasss,..tried to kiss her,..then slapped her.

  213. Try Some Reality Says:

I’m in the mood for a laugh. Priest – what are your predictions for next year on a) the Raiders record, b) Russell’s development and c) who will be our head coach.

  214. priesttj Says:

WEll they haven’t been to a SB in 15 years and wont for the next 15 as far as I can see it. The niners are OK if you like mediocre organizations. I know the GM and his family and if he stays they wont win………period.

The Warriors are my team but we haven’t dne a thing since 1976 the Giants since 1989 same as the A’s. The nly team in the BayArea out the 3 major sports that’s been to a championship is the Raiders and you can add the Sharks they are ran very well.

  215. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

That’s a good idea, about the heart transplant. I should put that in the comments section of the waiting list. “I want to binge on pain killers without worry”.

They inherited a pretty big cap mess. Now, I’m not saying I’m impressed with them but they’re doing better than us.

As for the SB. That’s loser talk. ‘haven’t been to a SB in 15 years’. Please. It’s all about winning the SB and they’ve won more recently than us and have 5 rings. Getting to a SB…what…and getting your butt kicked by your former coach. Yeah, that’s something to brag about.

  230. priesttj Says:

If you can’t figure that out yourself I can’t help you. I’d love for the Warriors to be anywhere near the Raiders neighborhood histrically. Same with Giants since they’ve been here I was a Giants fan since 1960 haven’t seen them win a thing. Now the A’s and the Raiders I’ll take their bayarea achievements anyday as well the niners. My two favorite teams are the Warriors and the Raiders all I ask is that my team challenge for a championship every ten years. the raiders have done that. The Warriors worst bay with the Giants.

Already tired of Favre Watch 2010? Then can I interest you in a little Tebow Watch?

We pass along reviews of Tebow’s first day at Senior Bowl practice with the knowledge that the buildup to the NFL Draft will be a long one, with many ups and downs for Tebow. Monday was a downer.

Lindsay Soto on NFL Network: Tebow fumbled the first snap from center, then botched roughly 5-6 more during the day. Tebow is used to playing out of shotgun.

Chris Mortensen on Twitter: “First impression from NFL folks on Tebow at Senior Bowl — it is indeed going to be a challenging process for him.”

Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times: “I’m on the sideline at the Senior Bowl practice and let’s just say Tim Tebow is not exactly lighting it up. Horrible mechanics and accuracy.”

Tebow will get a chance to rebound in the next three days of practice on NFL Network.

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

don’t we already have a QB who can’t take snaps from under center ???
