Cable on Jackson hire

Talking while observing practice at the Senior Bowl, Raiders coach Tom Cable gave a thumbs up to the hiring of Hue Jackson as offensive coordinator.

I think it’s a good decision by the organization,” Cable told the National Football Post. “It’s someone that I’m familiar with. It’s someone that I think can help us take the next step, so we’re all pretty excited about it.”

I think Matthews will be good. Could be a sleeper.

  • DMAC

If your going to trade me, let’s make a deal for Marshawn Lynch.

    Rockstar,

You mention all those guys, but don’t mention Fargas. You don’t think he could benefit from some coaching up and offensive creativity?

Hey, I would like to see Bush and Darren take the job and carries away from Fargas, but Darren isn’t getting the job done, and Bush will have one game with 12 carries for 80 yards, than a 9 carry 12 yard game.

At least FArgas is consistent, 12 for 40 yards, lol. YOu can book it!!

  • RaiderRockstar

I think Hue Jackson will work with Russell in the offseason before the draft, or at least reach out to him.

that way he’ll know exactly what he’s got.

If he thinks Russell is a lost cause (despite what he may say to the owner or the media) he’ll fix the o-line and make us a run first team without any hesitation

he’ll be smart enough to limit Russell’s pass attempts. If JR struggles with even those I think he’ll get benched again.

Example: Mark Sanchez completed 54 percent of his passes, averaged 163 yards per game, threw 12 TD’s and had a QB Rating of 63

they made it to the playoffs and beat the Bengals & Chargers with him at the helm. If Russell can’t at least match the play of Sanchez this past year he’ll have no chance to succeed in Oakland

    OK, Lynch.

I think after he runs his 40 at the combine. He won’t be a sleeper anymore.

    Vegas:

Fargas has been here since 2003. Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin & Tom Cable all failed to make him a starter quality RB.

plus he’s injury prone and just turned 30 years old on Monday.

    Rockstar,

We ran the ball more than we passed this year, and when we scored more points in the Bruce games, we throw the ball more than we ran it in those games.

Colts and Chargers were the worst rushing teams in the NFL. Running the ball and playing D works with an elite defense. IF you are not an elite D, you need to score points.

BSJ – Can you imagine the reaction by Russell if Cable handed him a book. LOL!

    I want us to draft:
    1- LB McClain

    4- DE Austen Lane
    5- ILB Micah Johnson
    6- OT Jared Valdheer 6’9 325

You can have the best O-line and RB in the world, if you are playing from behind, it just isn’t going to work the majority of the time.

The reason the Jets were able to be so patient running the ball, is because they had the best Defense in the league.

The Jets had the 3rd highest 3 and outs in the whole league!!!

We need 9 picks in the 1st 5 RDs. lol
We have 7, so we need 2 more. It can happen. Trade warren, Fargas, WR Walker, and Cooper for a 4th and a 5th. Then we can draft all the STUDs I listed in the prev post.

The draft makes my OCD reach new levels. lol
    I love draft talk!

    Legalize it!

  • The Big Banana

So, looks like Cable will remain head coach with Jackson ready to take the job if needed. Like what I hear about Jackson and I hope he can make something out of the crap pile that Cable created in our running game. And if Jackson gets something out of Russell, he’s nothing short of a genius.

Nobody talks about Daryly Washington, LB from TCU on here.

I have seen him as the #4 LB on some boards, and will run in the 4.5 range. He is very light, he needs to bulk up just to get to 245, but Al loves some speed, and we need LB’s.

Don’t be suprised if Al has this guy highlighted on his wish list.

  • http://blstb.msn.com/i/55/90A2853B6CFBCC2AFC987BB18B832.jpg vegas raider

    O,

I don’t see Al sitting back and usuing two 3rd and two 5th’s.

He is going to use those to trade up. Trade up from early 2nd to late first maybe.

  • DMAC

Yeah, I know Al loves speed, but we need a bulky, run stopping MLB that’s going to deliver the big hit.

  • http://atm Raider O

    Vegas,

That’s why most of my picks are for the Defense. I know we are better on Defense than offense, but I feel with a few players added, we can have a very good D. A Defense that can carry this young offense for a few seasons till we develop our young talent there.

  • http://blstb.msn.com/i/55/90A2853B6CFBCC2AFC987BB18B832.jpg vegas raider

    Dmac,

I want McClain in the first. That’s my big wish.

But if we don’t go that route, keep an eye on this Washington kid. Very fast, and athletic and makes a lot of plays, at least in college.

  • http://atm Raider O

    Vegas,

Al will draft his own stud: Mays or Dunlap.
Don’t mess with my dream. lol
In my dream we add more picks, and we do the rich thing for the team, and not the flashy thing. Let me dream brother.

  • Ghost to the Post

I think the confrence is better than people give them credit for and I also think Fresno St. has put plenty of good players in the NFL. Michael Pittman, Derrick Ward (only one season) and Lorenzo Neal. Who should be our fullback now. But, he was supposedly hurt or too slow to block for McFadden…

I feel Oakland should just make Huey the HC now,..not wait til the bye. Word.

Fresno State? I remember we overpaid an ex-QB from Fresno name Lance something…

  • Ghost to the Post

He never played at Fresno St. He backed up Dilfer.

  • DMAC

Yeah, it has produced a few decent NFL players.

  • Ghost to the Post

And they run a pro style offense. I also think if I am going to reach on stuff. Which I have already. There was a QB at Boise St by the name of Jared Zabransky. I don’t think he is in the NFL but, he was accurate and a winner. Bring him to camp this offseason and let him battle it out with Grads, and J Russ.

My biggest memory of Fresno State was when the Shark went there, and ran the hoops program so far into the ground, that they did a 60 minutes piece on it.

I think he had Rafer Alston on the team, some drunken irish kid from Boston, and some straight bangers who held up a party with samurai swords.

Vegas: the Colts & Dolts have Manning & Rivers.

we may be a DT & MLB away from being an elite defense, but we’ll never know because Al is committed to Warren & Morrison …

cut Warren. paycut for Kelly. slide Morrison to OLB

draft our DT & MLB (unless there is a “can’t miss” prospect in FA)

I could see Thurmond III making it to the 4th.

    I could deal with

    2)Pouncey C FL
    3a) Washington OLB TCU
    3b)Capers WVU T
    4)Thurmond III

    still working on the rest.

Chris Harren. He has a drug problem too. Yes The Tark is awesome. They started the investigation because some of the players were getting free rice bowls. Reggie Bush’s family get’s a house and our kids got rice bowls and the NCAA Threw the book at them. Sad.

He got an “And-1″ star into college.

    Rockstar,

I’m with you, Warren and Morrison got to go. Morrison is the starting MLB for the worst Run D in the NFL. AS much as we may like him, and he is a good dude with local ties, the facts remain.

  • RaiderRockstar

    Vegas:

the running & passing stats were both awful last year. I’m assuming Jackson’s #1 priority will be fixing the O-Line so that the QB’s & RB’s actually have a chance to be successful. We’ve proven that with a little blocking we can be a Top 10 or maybe even Top 5 running team. Has our passing game ever even shown glimpses of being able to accomplish that? No. that is why I think Hue Jackson will install a run-first offense if Russell struggles. Cable’s approach was to pass at will and when Russell chokes, yank him for a 3rd stringer

  • The Big Banana

“I think it’s a good decision by the organization,” Cable said. “It’s someone that I’m familiar with. It’s someone that I think can help us take the next step, so we’re all pretty excited about it.”

Cable, you do realize Hue will now be the guy calling plays. Did you forget to turn in your report card to Davis showing your self-issued A- grade for play calling?

  • Midwest Fan

O – like you I love the draft. Can’t get enough. Funny though, I left my computer in the middle of my 1st couple of picks and than posted it when I came back. All of a sudden you guys started talking about Washington from TCU. I think he’ll be an early 3rd to late 2nd pick.

  • http://blstb.msn.com/i/55/90A2853B6CFBCC2AFC987BB18B832.jpg vegas raider

    Rockstar,

I don’t agree that we had a pass-first offense. How many times did we just barrel a guy into the pile on first down? We ran the ball more than we passed, all the while losing games by 30 points.

It’s just when we passed, it was a turnover waiting to happen, and became very glaring.

I bet we pass the ball more next year, than we did this year.
