Cable on Jackson hire

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at 2:50 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Talking while observing practice at the Senior Bowl, Raiders coach Tom Cable gave a thumbs up to the hiring of Hue Jackson as offensive coordinator.

I think it’s a good decision by the organization,” Cable told the National Football Post. “It’s someone that I’m familiar with. It’s someone that I think can help us take the next step, so we’re all pretty excited about it.”

You see that Troy Smith’s agent has request a trade and some of the Bill’s players are lobbying for him.

  • RaiderRockstar

It’s just when we passed, it was a turnover waiting to happen, and became very glaring.

I bet we pass the ball more next year than we did this year.

    ***

Agreed. Do you think Hue Jackson will bench JaMarcus or stick with him if/when he fails?

In order to pass the ball more, we’ll have to show we are capable of doing so with at least some slight bit of efficiency, no?

I don’t think Jackson is dumb enough to commit to JaWalrus or the passing game if they can’t get the job done. thats all i’m saying …

    Rockstar,

Jackson actually is a good hire, in that he is in demand, and kind of in the middle of ascent in the coaching ranks. He will not let Jamarcus ruin that for him.

Russell may start the season, but the leash will be shorter than it was last year. And if blows off the OTA’s, Cable is still the HC, and someone else would probably be in place.

My guess, Jamarcus realizes that he can’t act like he did last off-season and improves in that regard. But the lack of pocket presence, inaccuracy, and penchant for turnovers will have him on the bench by week 5 if not sooner.

Chris Harren. He has a drug problem too. Yes The Tark is awesome. They started the investigation because some of the players were getting free rice bowls. Reggie Bush’s family get’s a house and our kids got rice bowls and the NCAA Threw the book at them. Sad.
    =============================================
NCAA was never fair with Tark. When he had those great teams at CS Long Beach before UNLV, he stated that the 2nd highest paid team in L.A. after the Lakers were John Wooden’s Bruins. The NCAA never investigated UCLA and Sam Gilbert until after Wooden retired.

Raider O, that’s fine you love the draft and geek out on putting together mocks. Personally, I like cold suds and the exotic flavor of a kiss from a Mexican senorita in a tube top. But to each his own.

But seriously, homey – do you really think Al is going to pick any of the guys you want?

The answer is no. And its going to inevitably lead to your head exploding in April when you realize you’ve spent the past 3 months compiling and revising 40 versions of your mock all for nothing.

Ask yourself this: Besides maybe DMAC or Gallery, who at the time were consensus top choices – has Al EVER picked a guy you wanted in the draft?

I can tell you that answer with 100% certainty.

So in the end, does it really pay – besides the joy you feel in your loins – to believe this mock might finally be the one that comes true?

Some players who are making noise at senior bowl practices

    -Boise State CB Kyle Wilson
    -CB Syd’quan Thompson of Cal
-Oregon TE Ed Dickson has a second solid day as he was consistently able to run away from opposing cover LBs and safeties; he also caught just about everything that came his way
    -Ole Miss RB/WR Dexter McCluster
-DEs in Brandon Graham of Michigan and Arkansas State’s Alex Carrington

I think we realize that it won’t ever pan out the way we want, either by the Raiders (AL) not picking who we want or the players get picked before we have a chance to pass on them.

The fun part is tracking some players and see where they end up and the scheme. I’m not only a Raiders fan but also just plain love the NFL.

  • RaiderRockstar

Al should move Sanjay Lal to offensive quality control coach and Ted Tollner to WR’s coach (are Lofton & Coe still in the building?)

then keep Hackett as QB coach.

  • Midwest Fan

I think we all can agree that a return specialist is obviously a team need and would warrant a mid round pick.

I didn’t like Russell Or Dmac in college.

Only saw DHB one game against Cal.

    Was SHOCKED we took him.
I was actually offended but then hoped for the best.

If we drafted DHB as a decoy that high?
Don’t we need a number one target first?

I know he didn’t want crabtree cuz he feels him n Chaz are the same type receiver.

HATED the Javon signing. He was one legged WR at the time.

An established #1 target wouldve been prefered.

Tommy Kelly was solid at DE.
Never understood him moving to DT.

  • Senior Beeecham

    Midwest, you’re missing the point.

While you have a general interest in the players and the draft, dudes like Raider O have a specific want for the players in their mock to get drafted by the Raiders.

And they spend the months before the draft figuring our new defensive alignments incorporating these guys and calculating the impact they’ll have the Raider’s success.

They put round value on each player and count the minutes until each pick comes up, praying they’ll still be there for the taking.

Then, inevitably, when they aren’t drafted by Al, they go into denial, rage, depression, etc. The final insult is when these guys go on to perform for other teams while our sclubs (with a few exceptions) go onto careers in the food service industry and/or crime.

Why not stop this vicious cycle of futility?

Man, Baja is going to RULE!

After getting out of the hospital, and getting over the infection, camp was over and he had lost over 20 lbs. Took him over a month to regain his strength and weight. Finally returned to the team after the season started. By then, Flacco had the job.
