Jackson confirms he’s Raiders OC

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at 8:36 am in Oakland Raiders.

Hue Jackson confirmed to the Baltimore Sun he accepted the position of offensive coordinator with the Raiders.

Jackson’s statement:

“After much consideration I have decided to accept a position as offensive Coordinator with the Oakland Raiders. I will miss the fans here and I thank them for all the encouragement and support they have shown me while I called Baltimore my home. I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to Steve Bisciotti, Ozzie Newsome, Dick Cass and especially Coach John Harbaugh who brought me to Baltimore. Baltimore will always hold a special place in my heart and I’m especially thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to work with a world class organization, a top notch coaching staff and some of the best talent in the league.”

Go ahead and let iut start sinking back in Chris, lol.

Jamarcus Russell is your starting QB!

Stop building yourself up for a big letdown talking about Gradkowski or Losman. It’s NOT going to happen.

I guess some Coaches do want to work for the Raiders.

This looks like a very nice addition. Hue is smart. He knows that if can get Russell to perform he will be able to write his own ticket.

LOL @ People gloating because Hue Jackson “chose” the RAIDERS over the Bears….

    Let’s be REALISTIC people…..

Did Gibril Wilson “choose” the “Raiders” over a championship quality team?? Or did he choose 38 million??

Did Javon Walker “choose” to play for the “RAIDERS” over a handful of other suitors (more talented ones) or did he choose 50+ million??

It is much more likely that Hue got an offer he couldn’t refuse… Trust me, he probably would have preferred to mentor Jay Cutler over a lost cause like Jamarcus Russell..

there are some very stupid posters on here LOL

Cable has one year left on his contract.

He’ll have nothing to do with the offense or defense this year.

If Jackson gets this offense on track with Russell, he’ll be the head coach after Cable’s contract runs out.

If Jackson doesn’t get this offense up and running, Cable will be out.

Either way, Cable has a SLIM chance of returning after this year.

Hue Jackson played QB at UOP in Stockton.

1987-2000 Jackson was a college coach.
2001-2009 Jackson was an NFL coach.

Jackson began his coaching career in 1987 at his alma mater, the University of the Pacific. After three years there, he moved on to Cal State Fullerton (1990-91), Arizona State (’92-95) and California (’96). At Cal, he was Offensive Coordinator and helped lead the Golden Bears to an Aloha Bowl berth.

His last college post was as Offensive Coordinator for the University of Southern California from 1997-2000. Jackson’s duties in his last three years at USC included the recruiting and early development of Bengals QB Carson Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Palmer came to USC in 1998. Jackson also helped recruit Matt Leinart before he left USC.

Hackett is the QB coach and it is common for teams to have a QB coach and OC.

Passing game coordinator and running game coordinators are new titles that have been popping up around the league. Ted Tollner is our passing game coordinator. Not sure what’ll happen with him but the position does seem superfluous with an OC on board.

Really? Then why the 9+ blowouts under Cable and his inability to motivate them to back to back wins last season? Yeah, they really play hard for him lol.

Hue Jackson. I like it! Now Cable won’t be calling the offense anymore. Hopefully, it will result in some better offense.

  40. RaiderRockstar Says:

I honestly think the play of Bruce Gradkowski saved Cable’s job this year – just like Mike Bush’s big game in Week 17 did it for him last year …

otherwise we’re 4-12 with JR last year and 3-13 with him this year

Hue Jackson is going to puke when OTA’s start and he sees the walrus in person. I’m sure he was impressed in Week 17 when JR had 2 turnovers and no TD’s and Raider fans on this blog called it one of his most impressive games of the season :)

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I agree that Russell has other problems, but at least losing some weight would make him more mobile allowing him to avoid a few more sacks behind this horrible o-line. Also, if you have ever played sports you know that carrying extra weight just affects your entire game….hell he probably can’t learn the offense because his blood sugar is all out of whack and he can’t concentrate for more than 10 minutes lol.

it’s something called TALENT.. and the Raiders extreme lack thereof…

Again, you ignore the points made and just read selectively.. A good amount of that has to do with Cables game calling..

I notice you didn’t list ONE thing HC related.

The players choosing Cable over Russell doesn’t make Cable a good HC.

The Steelers game? We got lucky. Grads flinging up a pass tha stayed in the air as long as a punt, and Murphy coming down with it was LUCK! Pitts DB dropping the game clinching pick was LUCK!

    Anyway …

Don’t worry, if the Raiders offense is better next year (which will be the key to winning) then Jackson gets the credit, not Cable.

    Play action off the run!

Cable going back to focus soley on the Oline and handing out game balls should be a good thing!

  52. Dakota Says:

Step one: Take Cable’s offense away from him.

Step Two: Ignore Cable’s claim that you can find ZBS linemen late in the draft or off the FA scrap heap and DRAFT SOME FUKING O-LINEMEN!!!!!

Step Three: Forget about 2010 and start dreaming about 2012 cuz Cable is baaaaaack.

Good point Raider O. People say ‘well, we can’t run behind our O-line’ but they’re missing it entirely. They forget that we actually ran well behind this O-line at one point. It was Cable that made the commitment and said ‘you pass to win’. Not if you can’t pass, you don’t. Bunch of crap.

    ==============================================
I disagree. His weight issues are critical. If it takes him an extra second to drop back to pass, get the team and himself to the line, then his lack of being in shape are not overhyped but essential to his being a success. He is unable to learn proper technique due to being an In or Out MVP.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^6

Sure, the Nick Miller thing… that doesn’t fall on the team physician?? Surely, Cable can’t tell an injury and how serious it is.. He is just going off of what is advised to him..

Holland and Russell…. did you have anybody better? Please tell me.. and don’t say Justin Miller please.

What about the OLINE play?? again, talent is the issue here… Not Cable…

DHB… what about him?? Do you really think that Cables hands weren’t tied to play DHB? That was a default decision beyond Cable.

They had a backup OG on the roster… his name was Chris Morris. and seriously… DO you think a backup OG was a glaring problem with this team? If you are going to start pointing out this teams issues.. please don’t start at backup OG.

Again, dime corner… same argument as OG applies… the pass defense was not an issue this season.

Mike Bush… Mike Bush didn’t have a couple HUGE fumbles this season? Mike Bush is what he is.. a RB who has had a couple big games over his career but has not done much aside from that. Please don’t start the Mike Bush argument.. It’s very possible that the dude just isn’t that good.. For a 240 pound back he runs awfully soft.

Guys not in shape.. again, where does player accountability come in? A HC is not a babysitter.. He isn’t a parent. And who wasn’t in shape? I didn’t see a problem with guys out of shape, except for one… And we all know the problem with that guy is the an in the mirror and him alone.

We need that QB on the D. A nice run stuffing MLB is what we are lacking, big time.

Gallery-LG needs a 2nd RD back-up! After that back surgery we really don’t know if he’ll be back to his old self!

    Teabag,

We will just agree to disagree on Cable and his HC abilities.

All I know is he now has nothing to do with the defense or offense, so I’m good.

  79. The Big Banana Says:

Wonder what the first call between Jackson and Russell will sound like?

Russell – “Yo, dis Dahmarcus phone. who be there”

Jackson – “Hi, JaMarcus. This is Hue Jackson. I’m your new offensive coordinator.”

Russell – “We got new offense coach? Yeah, baby. Man, them plays last year. No good. Too many cornerbacks in da way. Plays no good and everyone blame me.”

Jackson – “Yeah, well, I plan on putting you in situations to succeed. But I wanted to talk to you about coming in and doing some offseason work”

Russell – “Naw, that’s ok coach. King Elexis need to get fitted.”

Jackson – “Oh, yeah. I heard about that. Congratulations. Well, after your event, we can get together to work on the new offense”

Russell – “Naw, plans I got for more.”

Jackson – “What was that son?”

Russell – “Plans I got for more. Vegas going after. Homies party time are waitin for me.”

Jackson – “Well, I’m really anxious to get you in here and start working on next year. The team is paying you quite a bit son. It’s time to put in some work”

Russell – “Son who you callin’ me? Call you son, son! You better realize yourself better. Talk to Davis. This a business trip I’m on! This King Elexis. Talk can’t to me like that!”

    Jackson – SH1T!!!

You mean someone would rather work in Oakland than with the Bears?

I thought nobody would come here unless no other option was available.

Isn’t that what everyone keeps saying?

I guess some people were just WRONG!
    ==========================
You need to pay attention just a little better.
Comments tossed out, ad nauseum, was that no QUALITY HEAD COACH would ever choose to coach here.
Granted, many have turned down positions as assts..I mean, after all, when you look at the hiring criteria:
    1. You only answer to Al.
    2. Only Al can fire you.
    3. Doesn’t matter what you game plan, Al will let you know what you should be thinking.
    4. Be able to take a right cross, and keep on ticking.

    What’s not to like?

But it’s the position at HC that seems to have established top tier coaches avoiding like the plague.

  81. RaiderRockstar Says:

re-sign UFA’s Seymour & Janikowski to long term lucrative deals.

slap tender offers on Condo, Gradkowski, Howard, Losman, Routt & Morrison. no long term deals here. just let them stay 1 more season and either prove they deserve a big contract or prove they don’t. we can always use this year to find replacements and groom them as rookies.

re-sign Frye, Alston & Brown if nobody else wants them in FA. we’ll get them for peanuts. Alston & Brown are solid on ST – but they should never start at LB

  82. Dakota Says:

I wonder if Al has told Cable about Jackson yet?

  83. DMAC Says:

I would like to see Langston Walker signed and be inserted at the RG position. Played well, and contributed on huge wholes for Bush to run through.

    Teabag,

you are correct that we need more legit talent in here.

    AIG
    =========================
    Wow.
    What a grasp.
“you are correct that we need more legit talent in here.”

You figured that out all on your own? Oh..wait..someone else did. You just felt compelled to add a big DUH??? to the take?

    Oh…uh…CrapforBrains?

Right above the post? It shows who posted. Adding AIG afterward means you aren’t the sharpest tack in the drawer.
Maybe you forgot who you were posting as?

    Oh…well…that makes sense.

  85. jhill Says:

I have a feeling we are going to see Cable have a lot of control of the Oline. I think that may have us seeing what a healthy Barnes can do at OT.

    LT – Henderson
    LG – Gallery
    C – Satele
    RG – Walker
    RT – Barnes

    Backups

    C – Morris
    G – Carlisle
    T – Pears
    T – Green

  86. RaiderRockstar Says:

I would like to see Langston Walker signed and be inserted at the RG position.

    ***

DMAC: you are like the 4th or 5th poster to mention this.

why does everybody assume that Walker can play RG when he’s never done so in his career? He’s played LT & RT and then LG while Gallery was injured for all of 2 games last year until he got hurt himself …

so 2 starts at LG means that you not only have LG locked down, but are solid at RG as well ???

    since when?

  87. usmarine338 Says:

by cable coming back that has to mean that JA-MAN-BOOBS is finally finished right?, please in the name of everything holy get rid of that bum, let GRADKOWSKI be the leader i think he has proven to be, the tean doesn’t respect JM , those three games GRADKOWSKI started we looked like a different team, i know alot of RAIDER fans say that if that bum starts again this year their done with going to the games. so AL please wake up and give the guy who deserves a chance

  88. inonewordraider Says:

Give Seymour and Jano big money, re-sign Condo and Gradkowski, bring back Howard and Morrison but don’t overpay, the rest are expendable.

1st round pick on best avail RT gives us a OL w/ potential for Cable to work w/ Henderson, Gallery, Satele, FA, 1st rounder

Jackson has weapons in Mcfadden, Bush, Murphy, Schilens, Miller, DHB, Higgins

Use picks 2, 3a, and 3b on DT LB and CB (in whichever order) and Marshall has plenty of talent to work w/
Ellis/Shaughnessey, Warren/draftee, Kelly, Seymour, Howard, Morrison/draftee, Scott, Nnamdi, Johnson, Huff, Branch/Mitchell

  89. RaiderRockstar Says:

Barnes never played RT his entire career until last season for a few games and he didn’t play any better than Green there. In fact he got pulled for Erik Pears (who also stunk up the joint – except as 2nd TE)

Barnes, Green & Pears are all trash. Walker might be a better RT if he can get the zbs down. gotta be quick at tackle in the zbs. Walker is like a sloth

  90. RaiderRockstar Says:

    draft DL in Round 1
    draft OL in Round 2
    draft MLB in Round 3
draft OL again in Round 3
draft OL again in Round 4
picks in Rounds 5 & 7 can be used on DB’s or maybe a new FB

if Tebow is sitting there in Round 4 I gotta think we grab him though. Low risk, high reward. sort of like Bush & Murphy. nothing like Norris or Bowie!
