Raiders statement

The following statement was issued by the Raiders:

The Oakland Raiders are pleased to announce that Hue Jackson has joined The Oakland Raiders coaching staff as Offensive Coordinator. Jackson is a veteran assistant who has vast experience as an offensive coordinator both at the college and National Football League levels.

Jackson, who most recently as Baltimore’s quarterbacks coach helped the Ravens advance to the postseason in 2008 and 2009, is excited about the opportunity to join the Raiders. Jackson and Coach Cable previously worked together on two college staffs – as assistants at Cal State Fullerton in 1990 and at the University of California in 1996.

I must repeat myself I never said a black coach will motivate a black player every time,

    ………….

To even insist that it happens at all is stupid. And if you think it does, I challenge you to prove it. And, with data that you can cite, not with “I was a coach in Oakland. I coached the blacks!”

  • RaiderRockstar

Hue Jackson saw JaMarcus Russell get outplayed by Charlie Frye first hand in Week 17.

think he forgets that after chatting with Al for a few days?

  • Frank YoooooooLLL

Mr Madden I brought up shell because like I said before its not a sure thing just a thought, and shell shows that it isnt a sure thing.

You see people this is how racism starts:

“but if Jackson is black and Jamarcus is black maybe just maybe it might make an improvement,”

People who divide and label people by their skin color are racists and Frank your a racist!

    ………………

    Bingo.

  • TrueRaider

I guarantee to you guys that Jackson told AL Davis that he would help JR only if he is willing to compete and lead this team. JR will have to prove himself to his teammates, coaches and AL Davis who wants to win. If he struggles like he did during training camp and preseason, Grad would start.

  • http://www.elvis.com Lucifer-666

Jackson was brought here to run our offense not just coach one player….besides the way Jamarcus plays he should be on the defense he gives them the ball so much.

Jackson has a lot of problems to solve not just how to motivate one lazy fat overpaid loser.

  • The Big Banana

never fails. Vikings aren’t even in the playoffs and ESPN has a feature on Favre. effin’ A! Just imagine if they’d gone to the Super Bowl. Think they’d have had a collective orgasm over there?

  • RaiderRockstar

just saying … if all it takes to motivate JaWalrus is a black coach, hire Leslie Frazier as HC today.

then cut the walrus before camp :)

so true. what part of the offense is working?

  • M Lonetree

    MR,

I believe that you are wrong in your assessment of Hue Jackson being the fall guy.

Russell’s failing are already well-documented and known to the Managing General Partner of the Raiders or he would not have signed off on Cable’s demotion of the QB.

Hue Jackson may be regarded as a chance to salvage the investment in Russell but he was not signed to merely take the fall if JRuss either refuses to put in the work or is incapable of implementing himself as a viable QB.

    O.K., that was funny!

And the answer is. . . . .YES.

  • SR Raider

MR – I seriously hope that you’re wrong about Jackson being the fall guy for Russell, but, knowing Al, you’re probably right. The biggest problem with the Raiders is that Al won’t take responsibility for any of this. If he would just step up to a microphone and own up, the healing could begin. Until then, we’ll have these same conversations year after year.

  • Silver-n-Smac

And If I hear the term “Gunslinger” (Favre) one more time, I’m gonna puke.

  • Silver-n-Smac

For what it’s worth, my opinion of Jackson’s role is as follows:

He’ll have less to do with Russell’s individual development and more to do with the team-wide offensive concept (i.e. establish a great running game and work the pass off of that).

That philosophy, in itself, will indirectly help Russell’s play.

Asking JaMarcus to carry an offense at this point in his career is clearly a mistake.

  • http://www.elvis.com Lucifer-666

“Gunslinger” is a nice way to say the bastard throws way too many interceptions.

Exactly like when a rich guy is considered eccentric when if he wasn’t rich they would call him crazy.

  • Silver-n-Smac

What do you say you all just quit the “black” talk?

    It’s really ridiculous.

  • The Big Banana

I don’t think Jackson will take the fall, or at least he shouldn’t. If anything, if Jackson can’t get anything out of Russell it will only solidify the argument that Russell himself is the problem. As for the whole black/white thing, come on people.

    …………….

    Agreed.

  • Silver-n-Smac

The ideal situation would be for JaMarcus to sit the entire year next season (remember – Philip Rivers sat on the bench for 2 years in a row before ever starting).

By 2011, Russell would kinda be outta-sight, outta-mind.

All the public negativity that currently surrounds him would be fused a bit (similar to Alex Smith’s & Vince Young’s situations).

And at that point, you would hope that he will have really changed his entire outlook on football and the preparation it requires.

I really wish good things for the kid.

Doug Gottlieb (sp?) just said it may be the darkest day in the history of the Bears because Jackson chose the Raiders over the Bears.

    lol

  • Silver-n-Smac

So, at the rate the QB’s are dropping out of the Pro Bowl game, Alex Smith might be next in line!

    LOL

  • http://www.elvis.com Lucifer-666

    LOL at MR

“Well, if all it takes to motivate Russell is a black guy, why not Gary Coleman?”

Gary Colemen would be cheaper than Jackson!

  • M Lonetree

Any effort and expertise Hue Jackson may wish to interject into the Raiders on the offensive side of the ball will not amount to a chihuahua turd unless the O-line is fixed.

  • TrueRaider

I disagree with you guys. Your assessment on AL Davis is totally false, he doesnt need a fall guy for JR. He knows he messed up with this pick, as a CEO and GM, you cant just evaluate situations from your perspective or others in the organization, AL had to bring a new eye to reveal if JR (whom he invested a lot in him), can be salvageable or should he cut his losses end of training camp. You will see AL will resign Grad with starting QB money which would indicate that it will be open competition rather than a given JR starts.

Just about everything we’re all discussing about the OC, QB, RB’s & receivers is, and has been, totally irrelevant until that O-Line is legit.

I believe Russell was drafted in 07′, no?

    A Little Perspective.

The 80yr old GM produced this:

    09′ 5-11
    08′ 5-11
    07′ 4-12
    06′ 2-14
    05′ 4-12
    04′ 5-11
    03′ 4-12

7 Straight Double-Digit Losing Seasons. (NFL Record)

    Al Davis:
    Lowest attendance in the NFL.
2nd least valuable franchise in NFL.

    In the last 7 years:
    5 Head Coaches,
    8 Starting QB’s.
    1 General Manager, Al Davis

    Since Free Agency:
6 winning seasons in the last 20.
3 winning seasons in the last 15.

Do you really believe scapegoating YET ANOTHER Head Coach is going to solve this mess?

he paid a walrus 32 mil guaranteed and there is no cap.

  • M Lonetree

    Dakota,

I agree with you about paying beaucoup bucks to Bruce, but McF is paid “starter’s money” – how many decent quarters has he had?

He may be cheap when it comes to coaches, but, he’s never hesitated to fork out cash for a player he wants.

So quit worrying so much about the money side of things.

Hopefully Jackson will figure out how to use McFadden and then I will not let you and others live it down.

    muhahahahahaaaa

With no legitimate starting QB, an idiotic play caller, a patchwork of cast-offs on the offensive line and a sieve-like run defense, winning five games actually seems impressive.

    Go Raiders!

Gradkowski will take a million and a chance to start. What other choices does he have?

  • M Lonetree

Trade DMc for apples and oranges.

Jackson was brought in to get through to JaMarcus, but I’m sure his work with Ray Rice was the deciding factor to make him the OC.
If he can’t make Russell better, then maybe he can get McFadden to start rolling.

Yeah, that’s right, don’t worry about the player’s contracts, it is Al’s money, not like there is a salary cap! Oh wait, there is a salary cap and there probably will be one with the new CBA!

Yeah, it is not worth discussing when Al gives huge deals to guys like Walker, Kelly, Wilson, Hall etc….it has absolutely no affect on the team right?
