Rice, Smith in final five

The five modern era candidates who will be voted upon on a yes or no basis for the Pro Football Hall of Fame are the following:

Guard Russ Grimm, linebacker Rickey Jackson, defensive tackle John Randle, wide receiver Jerry Rice and running back Emmitt Smith.

To be elected, each must receive 80 percent of the vote, or 36 yes votes from the 44 selectors.

More to come . . .

    Per Wikipedia on “Fans”

Teams that have a large amount of fans that have such an obsession with their team that their lives are practically based around the team are often called rabid fans. These fans often congregate hours before kickoff in what is known as a Tailgation. The Oakland Raiders are often cited as an example of a team with a rabid fanbase because of their large fanbase internationally as well as unusually large amounts of local news coverage in Oakland/SF Bay Area in recent years being dedicated to the team even during the down years of the recent past. The Oakland Raiders will always be thought of as one of the best organizations of all time, regardless of 7 consecutive losing seasons. People need to remember that the glory years and the countless years of domination far outweigh the recent past and the return to glory is inevitable.

I don’t understand why so many of you so-called fans, accept losing so much.

    REPOST

I’m with the Raiders win or lose. I think however if the old man would hire someone to help with the personell decisions, those of us that are frustrated by the same old song and dance, would at least be encouraged.

Norco has made His peace. Good for Him.

    Kell not so much.

A question for you Kell. If the old man were to bring in a Pro Personell man /GM, would you temporarily change your tune?

    Just curious.

I know I am an exception in the Nation, but I think Brown is borderline HOF at best. Good, no make that great, overall stats but was never really clutch. There are so many Raiders that deserve to be in ahead of him. For every great catch he made, he would make a drop in a clutch situation. Technically he was fantastic. Speed wise, he was pretty good (great prior to the knee). Effort wise, love him. Clutch or a big game player? Not so much.

Jerry Rice just announced that he will be entering the HOF as an Oakland Raider and that Al Davis will be doing his induction speech! Eddie DeBartalo is trippin’ right now!

And they accuse ME of plagerizing.

To be brutaly honest, I never thought much of Tim Brown.

Cliff Branch should be in the HOF before T Brown ever gets a sniff.

Yes, if that person had authority. Then I would hold that person accountable.

Congrats to Jerry Rice. Cant wish anything but good for Rice & even though he’ll always be a 49er, he represented well in that Raiders uniform. We havent had a true #1 reciever since.

  • M Lonetree

GM? We don’t need no stinking GM (unless he has a great 40 time)!

  • HayesDaze37

    Ahh…I can’t just leave yet.

Cris Carter and Tim Brown belong on the same panel, to be elected to The Hall next year. Both are “me first” guys who somehow convinced themselves, and others, that they were all about the team. One thing about both guys, though — they NEVER quit on their teams, like the Randy Mosses of the world.

Some of those others (agree with M…the most obvious: Cortez Kennedy!?) were only there because people recognize their names, not necessarily their games. Still…those ELECTED this year all belong there.

But, when greats like Cliff Branch (his numbers DWARF Lynn Swann’s) and the incredible Lester Hayes are left out, the Hall Of Fame is only half-credible.

Anybody see the Celebrity Beach Bowl? Gannon threw 3 TDs, looked good eluding pressure, great footwork, kept the troops in line. Bring him back, Al! He’s still got it!
