Send me to Bourbon Street

Would love to eat my words, except I’m too full of jambalaya, shrimp, spicy chicken wings, etc.

A well-deserved win for the Saints, who got their first defensive touchdown in more than a month _ off Peyton Manning, no less _ and showed many of the same qualities which made them one of the NFL’s most impressive teams through the first 12 games.

Have to love a team which recovers an onsides kick to open the second half, converts it into a touchdown, then is unruffled when Indianapolis immediately answers with its final score.

New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees played the Colts’ Cover 2 defense beautifully, content to take all the short throws it allows without forcing anything downfield and avoiding the kind of mistake Manning made at the end.

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving player or a more deserving team.

The Saints played similar to the way the Raiders played the last time they were any good, only to unravel in the final game against Tampa Bay.

Fell behind 10-0, outscored Indianapolis 31-7 the rest of the way, and immediately put on hold any thought of Manning joining the likes of Montana, Bradshaw and Brady and bottom-line, championship quarterbacks.

Hell, he’s still a game behind Jim Plunkett.

Manning’s INT was due to them running that play too much. Porter went for that ball before Manning even threw it. Again, no innovation, trying to play safe. There is no safe play in the NFL, especially when the defense knows it’s coming. Maybe the QB kneel?

that’s how you know you got a keeper Vegas!

    MR,

I thought the Colts should have ran the ball more. I know it is not there MO, but halfway through the 3rd quarter they were averaging 6 yards per carry.

Hello Coach Caldwell, are you alive down there???

So big conspiracy out here on one of the props.

Would there be a score in the first 7:30 of the game. No was the underdog.

Stover trots out with 7:36 left and kicks the ball through the uprights, and after it goes through the run 2 extra seconds off the clock, stopping at 7:29, so no score in the first 7:30.

Supposedly set off a near riot at the South Point they are saying on local radio.

Colts lost by playing not to lose. Conservative on offense and defense. They didn’t blitz because the media said you can’t blitz Drew Brees. When your defensive coordinator is ESPN, you’re going to lose. One thing I’ll give to Al is at least he doesn’t march to the tune of media pundits when it comes to team needs. The only problem is, he’s crazy and doesn’t know what he’s doing, either. But the Colts lost by doing the polar opposite. They did everything by the handbook. No innovation. A corner blitz could have put that 10 minute drive to a halt.
    ……..

I also felt the Colts believed their own hype. They thought they were so proficient and precise that they could run what they wanted and the Saints couldn’t stop them.

Colts didn’t test the Saints deep very often and should have went for the big play more in the 3rd quarter.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Colts had to shut Brees down. They didn’t even try. They were just hoping Brees would try to throw a 10 yard pass to one of the sidelines, right into their cover 2. Never happened. Turns out Brees isn’t a retard.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

I think it’s because their coach doesn’t know what he’s doing. Dungy left him a blueprint and he’s too afraid to deviate from it. The NFL changes every year. Every week. Every quarter. You have to make adjustments. The Colts didn’t do it. It looked like their offense and defense was run from a script the entire game.

    IMO
    Caldwell=Callahan
    same scenario.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Meanwhile, the Saints did make adjustments. They slowed down and started taking what Indy was giving them. S. Payton realized there was plenty of time, and they didn’t have to score right away.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

I agree, DMAC. Remember after SB37, Callahan blamed the defense? I can’t believe Al didn’t fire him that night.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

And the onside kick was huge, too. Caldwell would have never though of it. It’s not in Dungy’s blueprint.

Finding out that the Colts ran the same exact play that got picked off, two plays before it. They just tried to switch the WR’s to make it different but Porter sniffed it out and housed it.

The same play within a few plays on a drive in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl?

  • RaiderRockstar

Reggie Wayne Should Probably Kill Himself

Now that the New Orleans Saints have won the Super Bowl, there is one person to blame. Reggie Wayne. The man is responsible for allowing Peyton Manning to throw an interception, and also responsible for dropping a catchable pass in the end zone in the last minute of the game.

I understand its certainly possible Peyton Manning’s magic still wouldn’t have had enough time to make the full comeback but with running bonehead routes and the butterfingers Reggie Wayne brought to the game. How were the Indianapolis Colts to have a chance of winning the game.

    -Jockism

    OUCH!

  • DMAC

Yeah, I just read in the paper that Porter did lots of film studying.
“When I saw Austin Collie go in motion I said, ‘Oh yeah, this is the route they’ve been running all year’, and yeah, I had it in my mind I was going to jump the route,” Porter said.

  • RaiderRockstar

Reggie Wayne appeared to catch Randy Moss disease last night.

  • bcz24

Manning runs variations of that play that porter housed probably 20 times a game. Its his bread and butter quick slant. I agree with you guys though, it was painful to watch the Colts play such a vanilla game. Like they didnt care. Will say i was really disappointed about that 2pt conversion being ruled a completion. The NFL has to get their act together on what constitutes a catch.

  • bcz24

Garcon dropped a huge catch too. Wayne had 2 drops on the night… looked like our receivers out there.

  • RaiderRockstar

Rodney Harrison thought Reggie Wayne was partly to blame for Tracy Porter’s interception. “To me, he didn’t run a great route,” Harrison said

    SI

  • DMAC

If Moore was Murphy, than it’s not a catch.

  • bcz24

Addai was running like a man posessed and they kept pulling him out… it was a terrible gameplan.

yet every Raider fan loves Gannon & Gruden and half or more can’t stand the type of offense (WCO) that they ran …

My man Sedrick Ellis got a SB ring yesterday. Your guy DMac only gets the finger. LOL

May be but he still had more impact for them than Dmac has had for us. That was the point of my message. My pick for us that year was Sedrick Ellis. Instead, AD took Dmac. I just happen to think that Ellis would have served us better. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t have been upset with Ellis selected by Oakland. run defense has been a glaring issue for 7+ years now.

Why draft a RB in the Top 5 when you’re already a Top 10 rushing team?

We had Jordan, Fargas, Rhodes, Echemandu and Bush at the time … the last thing we needed was another RB

but now that McFadden is a Raider I root for him and wish him the best :)

  • Thec07

Wasnt the fact that manning wanted to make a stement in the air. the colts are a pass first team. Manning was exucuting the formula that has worked…
