UPDATE: Pendergast official

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, February 8th, 2010 at 1:21 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders made no announcements regarding the hiring of former Cardinals and Chiefs defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast Monday, although a team source confirmed an interview had taken place and that there could be something forthcoming this week.

ESPN reported Pendergast was hired to coach defensive backs with Oakland. According to the Raiders, no contract has been signed.

According to Raiders.com, Pendergast is now officially on board.

No word as to whether Pendergast will coach along with Lionel Washington, essentially placing Willie Brown, or if Washington has been given permission to seek other employment after one year on the job. In fact, the Raiders says only that he is joining the coaching staff and doesn’t designate a specific responsibility.

Trade DMAC for just some girl!

Gradkowski is a decent QB. Quick, mobile in the pocket, accurate, similar to Gannon. Look at what happened to him. Our line sucks and our offensive game plan prioritizes protecting the quarterback right there with punching themselves in the face. How does Losman excel in this system? Do explain.

Just tell me you’re joking, before I start to believe you… really have no intention of discussing football.

I love discussing football. In a serious manner. But not with everybody. I don’t trust you.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

So, Bo, you honestly believe then that if we start Losman, we could be Super Bowl contenders this year? I’m talking at least 10 wins…

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Bo, are you loyal to Al Davis?

MR, here, I’ll make it easy. Just give me one aspect of Danny Southwick’s game that’s NOT ready to compete for a Super Bowl. Just one. Before I start to believe you’re just some girl messing around on here and really have no intention of discussing Raiders football.

    Losman has a shot

you love discussing football in a serious manner, yet you insist the Raiders can compete for a SB this year as long as Losman starts? YOU’VE NEVER EVEN SEEN LOSMAN! Where was he before Oakland? I’d never even heard of him. A backup in Buffalo, right? And this would have to happen with him being saddled up with a young, and not to mention, injury prone receiving corp, a porous line, a gameplan that simply does not factor not only protecting the QB but even the league they’re playing in, and a coaching system ALWAYS marred with chaos. Sure. That’s a serious conversation. I’m off to grab lunch. Catch up with you later, you character.

I consider myself a die hard Raider Fan like I’m sure evryone on here does. I’m not sure about us being a good QB away from a Super Bowl run though. That would be nice though!!! I think we need more veterans on this team that will continue to show the youngsters how to really PLAY the game. Not just go thru the motions and get their paycheck. Just my opinion.

The New York Giants have released middle linebacker Antonio Pierce after five seasons.

“I was shocked at first, but I’m not the one up there up in the office, and they said they felt they needed to go in another direction,” Pierce told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols on Thursday. “They said it wasn’t my health, or the way I played, but just that — that they were going in another direction. We left everything smooth and peaceful and I’m happy about that — I felt like I said everything I needed to say to them. I’ve loved my time in New York and won’t have anything but good feelings about being with this team.”

Pierce said the reason he was in the New York area was to have a doctor look at the herniated disc in his neck that caused him to miss the final seven games of last season. He said the MRI was “very positive.”

“I can’t say I’m 100 percent yet, but with the season still six months away, I’m right where I need to be and I’m going to be fine,” he said.

Pierce had one season left on the contract he signed as a free agent in 2005.

When asked if he had an idea of where he might play next or if he has been contacted by other teams, Pierce said, “I have no wish list. If I had a preference, it would be to stay in the NFC East, since I know the division so well. But I just want to go somewhere I can help a good team.”

Pierce had 55 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in nine games last season. He led the Giants in tackles the previous three seasons and missed only four regular-season games since leaving the Washington Redskins to join the Giants.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

    Rockstar,

Yeah, when he said “somewhere I can help a good team” that pretty much takes us out of the running

Antonio Pierce fits the mold of a potential overpaid Raider……at the end of his career and injured!!

Al please do not over pay this guy to come here and collect a paycheck……..wait a minute I forgot who our MLB was……yeah maybe over pay this guy instead of Morrison!!

Works for me. Although Bryant can stay. Cofield, Robbins, Kelly and Bryant would work for now. At least it would be competent.

I forgot William Joseph was still on the roster.

so I guess Robbins & Cofield would replace Warren & Joseph …

and the DE’s would be Seymour, Ellis, Shaughnessy & Scott

or do we keep Trevor Scott at OLB and give the 4th DE spot to Jay Richardson/Greyson Gunheim?

Oren O’Neal, RB Taken off IR ankle
Ricky Brown, LB Taken off IR ankle
Jon Alston, LB Taken off IR concussion
Nick Miller, WR Taken off IR fractured tibia
Slade Norris, LB Taken off IR hamstring

all taken off of IR today and placed back on the roster. thats a whole lot of help on Special Teams IMO

will any of these guys be back next season?
