Hard to imagine a stadium is `feasible’

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, February 13th, 2010 at 2:12 pm in Oakland Raiders.

So the there’s a “feasibility study” on the table for the Oakland-Alameda County Authority board to look in to the possibility of a football stadium which could house both the Raiders and 49ers, according to the Oakland Tribune.

The study would cost $125,000, and seemingly wouldn’t take nearly that much to determine city and county residents are wary of anything having to do with their local government in conjunction with the Raiders.

Taxpayers still have $150 million to go to cover Coliseum upgrades from the deal that brought the Raiders back to Oakland 15 years ago. They’ve had three winning seasons during that span, are currently on a string of seven consecutive blackouts and even their own fans are paying for billboards calling for Al Davis to surrender football decisions to a general manager.

It’s not like sending JaMarcus Russell and Tom Cable out to rally the public is going to build a wave of enthusiasm for the project.

Look, I’m all for a shiny new facility even if it’s half of what Jerry Jones pulled off in Dallas. But Jones got it done with considerable help from Arlington, and the city of Oakland and Alameda County are simply not going to be able to fund a stadium. Nor should they, in the current economic climate.

When it comes to stadiums in the Bay Area, the biggest problem faced by local franchises to get something done is AT&T Park. The San Francisco Giants have set the bar impossibly high, paying for the stadium themselves and paying down the debt themselves.

That’s the starting point.

And probably the ending point, as well.

Of course, I’m the same guy who picked the Colts to win big in the Super Bowl. Look forward to all your e-mails when they break ground on the new stadium.

Thec07, I”m not stupid enough to bet a record in February are you crazy? You keep boasting that Russell is garbage if you think so back it up playa.

  • jhill

    I’ll take that bet Thec.

I say the Raiders win more than 8 games next year regardless of the QB.

I think we will see at least 2 new starters on the Oline.

I think the defense will be much better under Marshall in year 2.

I think Murphy, Chaz, DHB, and Miller are going to be really good.

I think having a play caller will make a big difference.

I think Cable not wearing so many hats is going to help.

And most importantly, we play the AFC and NFC West 10 times next year.

  • jhill

And I’ll DEFINITELY take Russell over Tebow for a hunnit!

you’re stupid enough to keep coming back in here every day to get your “butt” handed to you by Kell

betting on Russell wouldn’t be quite as stupid.

  • Thec07

Priest, you allready stated your opinion on my sanity… I get that I am crazy for diagreeing with the “great” semi-professional blogger Preist…
Until BRL proves otherwise he is garbage….
Nothin i see in him suggest NFL franchise 65 million dollar QB…..

The old adage you get what you pay for does not apply to this guy….

What kind of football IQ does a fan need to understand his team is 29-83?

    3 winning seasons in 15?

  • priesttj

You got it Thec07 so that we’re clear all of these QB’s must be better than Russell in 2010. RIGHT??

Clausen, Sanchez, Flacco, Stafford, Bradford, McCoy, Tebow and Ryan. Now if they don’t start I win if they get benched I win if they have worse stats I win. They must play and have a better year correct?

  • Thec07

That is a hard one as I wont root against us winning, so JHILL you are on. a C note if we come in at .500
    or lower…. Word is bond…

  • priesttj

KK, if that’s all they need to know that would make them no better than YOU.

  • http://www.Move2Alameda.com KoolKell

    RR,

You don’t need to use my name to make your points.

  • Thec07

Preist, we have to make it fair… We will say compare
all of the QB’s after 2 years of play to BRL’s 2 years of play…

  • jhill

    RRS …

    See response to Thec.

THAT is the scenario I said we would win 10-11 games under, and most importantly it was because we were playing KC twice, the Rams, Seattle, Az without Warner, and Dungver twice.

Why you KEEP bringing up Barnes being “part of the process” of an 11 win team is, well… it is what it is man.

You’re right. Barnes will be a part of the reason we win 11 games next year.

  • http://www.Move2Alameda.com KoolKell

    Sports is about winning, no?

29-83 is not winning. Why don’t you go and lecture Al Davis?

  • jhill

    Ok, Thec!

C note it is on .500 or better.

If Green and Carlisle start, again, I’ll go ahead and concede week 1 and get you the cheese, lol!

  • jhill

    Sanchez
    Clausen
    Ryan
    Another bet for you preist,

    Flacco
    stafford
    colt Mccoy
    Sam Bradford
    even
    Tim Tebow

will be better at QB than BRL…

Ryan and Stafford I will give you.

But I’ll take a well managed Russell over the other guys.

when r u going to stop with your mitchell cant cover bs. we’ve been through this. we have yet to see him have to cover. sure, we know the td against washington. and then i’ll say nnamdi was behind him, mm let guy go towards back of endzone to nnamdi. only nnamdi left toward middle of field just b4 the snap. cant cover or maybe blow assignment. then we had the game in which kirk chirped at mm for again missing an assignment. 2 plays that gained maybe 20 yards. i’d be willing to be if you go through all 16 games that the “injury prone mike mitchell ” played in he didn’t give up more than 5 receptions for well less than 100 yrds. not bad for a dude who cant cover. fact of the matter rrs, who knows if he can or cant cover. he is an in the box ss. one whose best ability seems to be a a blitzer/run stopper. right or wrong. get back at u later. dr’s appt

Outside of you and Al Davis, who on this planet feels that Russell is getting a bad rap? His teammates, coaches, fans, media, etc. all feel Russell is GREATLY underperforming for this stage in his career.

are we not considered “Semi professional bloggers”?

Russell is a professional QB. we should be at the very least semi-pro bloggers!!!

Can the “wintern” help turn things around for him? JaWalrus could learn alot from Danny Southwick.

  • priesttj

Hey Bo, I’ll humor you this once. what in hell leads you to believe I don’t think he’s underperformed? just because I don’t agree with the Jadumbell crowd? Everyone knows he’s underperformed and I’ve admitted as much about a thousand times.

It’s the vast lack of comprehension in here that makes it seem otherwise. Underperforming and saying the kid doesn’t care are two very different things. Calling him lazy and stupid is waaay over the top IMO.

Underperforming to what degree is debatable.

With regards to the Raiders recently, EVERYONE has failed. The organization, the coaching staffs, the players, EVERYONE. As Head Coach and Q, you get the lion share of the blame. It comes with the territory.

Football is the ultimate team game. Someone was in here the other day saying how Jason Campbell would be a good choice at Q here. Jason Campbell is being booed out of Fed Ex Field. Jason Campbell has been in the league 5 years to Jamarcus’ 3. Jason Campbell has a very good veteran offensive line including a 6 time pro bowl left tackle in Chris Samuels. He has a Pro Bowl TE. He has a Pro Bowl running back in Clinton Portis. He has two high draft choice WR’s both of which have been in the league for 8+ years. Compare THAT to us.

Will the O-line issue be fixed?

Does Al draft a MLB, or try to sign a FA?

6 pack or 36 pack abs when King Exlax reports to training camp?

Just three of the important issues facing the Raiders this off-season. I don’t have a clue to what may happen.

But, I know this. A 10lb. sack of flower, makes one hell of a big biscuit!

Priest, I trust the pros on the JRUSS issue – his teammates and coaches do not feel like he cares enough. Some imply that, yes, he is lazy.

But who cares abou that? For you, his unique talent means the galss is half full. For me, the slim chance he will realize his talent means the glass is empty and in pieces on the floor.

The questions you guys should be asking are is Darren McFadden going to be better? Is Michael Bush going to be better? Is the offensive line going to be better? Is Louis Murphy going to be better? Is Chaz Shielens going to be better? Can we get a good young Fullback in the draft? Can Heyward-Bey contribute? How do you integrate both Brandon Myers and Tony Stewart to take some of the pressure off Zach?

When did they say that he walked between stations?

And you think it’s the same playbook for the past 3 years? Kiffin, then Knapp, then Cable, then Cable-Hackett-Tollner? Same playbook? Really?

And when did he admit he didn’t know the playbook? When did the coach say that? ANd please don’t quote a message from someone like Steve Young opening night.

If Russell didn’t know the playbook, why did Cable call so many passing plays? Why didn’t Russell have one of those wristbands with the plays on it?

    Richochet,

What was the difference between Russell the previous offseason under Kiffin, and last offseason under Cable?

The fact that Jamarcus is so talented is what makes it even worse.

How can I guy with that kind of arm, put in 3 TD 17 turnover campaign? How could he screw up so badly. Bruce and Frye had to stabilize the position it got so bad.

Jamarcus Russell has set the bar for doing less with more.
