Rating importance of Raiders FAs
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 at 1:45 pm in Oakland Raiders.
A priority list of Raiders unrestricted and restricted free agents in terms of bringing them back for the 2010 season when the trade and free agency period begins March 5.
Gotta have ‘em
DE Richard Seymour (UFA): Can’t be allowed to get away after sending a 2011 first-round draft pick to Patriots. If Seymour is looking for guaranteed money of $30 to $40 million, the best course of action is the franchise tag and a single season at $12.3 million to see if he can play at or near his prime or is in the declining stages of his career.
QB Bruce Gradkowski (RFA): Why? Because his teammates believe in him and it’s important to have the guy who took the job away from JaMarcus Russell around to push Russell this season. If Gradkowski is allowed to walk, and Russell gets a free pass, the Raiders learned nothing last year.
Could be useful
LB Thomas Howard (RFA). One of the NFL’s fastest linebackers, he can be retained for less than $2 million depending on the tender and he is useful on passing downs, although not a stout run defender.
QB Charlie Frye, (RFA). Gradkowski is the priority, but Frye is an ideal No. 3 quarterback _ an extremely hard worker and student of the game who aspires to coach some day and knows his role.
G-T Langston Walker (UFA). Showed something last season when he switched to guard in a pinch and performed better than expected.
C-G Chris Morris (RFA). Strictly as a backup in the middle three positions. Has faltered as a starter.
Take ‘em or leave ‘em
LB Kirk Morrison (RFA). Seems ridiculous on its face to put the team’s leading tackler five years running on this list, but if some is going to take the fall for the Raider perpetually poor run defense, it ought to be the middle linebacker.
LB Ricky Brown (RFA). The Raiders thought well enough of Brown last year to put a second-round tender on him, but he hasn’t been able to remain healthy either season.
CB Stanford Routt (RFA). Considering his skill set, really should have been a starter by now. Prone to mistakes and head-scratching penalties.
QB J.P. Losman (UFA). Came aboard too late to make any real impact. Assuming Gradkowski returns to compete with Russell, hard to see Losman getting a shot in Oakland unless Hue Jackson is a big fan.
Thanks, but no thanks
LB Jon Alston (RFA). One of the better guys you’ll meet, Alston’s concussion issues last season looked pretty serious to the untrained eye.
RB-FB Gary Russell (RFA). Russell is not really a halfback, and the Raiders already have a glut there with Darren McFadden, Michael Bush and Justin Fargas. And he’s not big enough to be a lead-blocking fullback, which is something they need to find in the draft or free agency.
OT Cornell Green (UFA). If Green lines up as the starting tackle for the third straight year, it’s bad news. Tom Cable swears by him. Most fans simply swear at the penalties and sacks surrendered.
OT Khalif Barnes (RFA). When Barnes signed, it was supposedly as a competitor to start at left tackle. Instead, Mario Henderson was told early on he was the guy, and it didn’t matter as Barnes sustained a broken ankle. He never made enough of an impression to get any serious time, bypassed by Langston Walker.
Note: Doesn’t include Sebastian Janikowski, signed to a four-year, $16 million deal with $9 million in guarantees.

Because we always get the players we want. It’s been happening for years. I’ve been saying we need a better stadium to compete but he signed Jerry Rice right after that. Then he signeseveral others as well as Allen the corner and Garner. Then he gave CWood big money.
We have always gotten the players we needed. That were available.

Why are the Raiders 29-83, if Al Davis is so great?

Was Marshall a good hire? Compared to Rob Ryan maybe, but that again is just a case of one turd making another turd look good.
Let me dig up the stats.
Okay:
09′ under Marshall
23rd in points allowed per game
26th in yards allowed per game
7th in pass D
29th in rush D
08′ under Ryan
24th in points allowed per game
27th in yards allowed per game
10th in pass D
31st in rush D
Nothing to write home about IMO.
With the exception of one good year in SF, Marshall has been a average to below average DC, especially against the run.

Huff and Scott improved with Marshall, and you have to admit his D playcalling was much more creative and appropriate. We hardly ever dropped 11 into coverage!
He seems more independent from Al as well, which is key for our DC.

Who knows, if Cable hadn’t been playing games in the preseason by pretending Barnes had a shot at LT, maybe Barnes would not have been in at 2nd team LT when he broke his ankle…he could have been playing RT on the first or second team getting ready to replace Green and never would have been injured…but we’ll never know because Cable fuked it up.

Steve Alford,
Hiring Marshall “great”? Great?!?
I can see making the point that Marshall might be great someday, or may have been great in the past. But to look at our current defense and say, “yep, our defensive coordinator was a great idea by Al” might just be overstating it a bit, wouldn’t it? Do you consider taking a 27th ranked defense to 26th “great”?

666,
You are right, the Geneva convention is there to protect those like your brother. However it is not there to protect terrorists. Those that are entitle to protection under the Geneva Convention are defined as follows:
“Persons belonging to one of the following categories, who have fallen into the power of the enemy:
Members of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict as well as members of militias or volunteer corps forming part of such armed forces.
Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfill the following conditions:
That of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;
That of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;
That of carrying arms openly;
That of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.”
Sorry, a terrorist doesn’t fit that definition.
February 17th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Rockstar, no criminals care about laws. That’s why they commit crimes to begin with. The desired result of the crime outweighed the fear of punishment at the time they made their decision. That’s no logical reason to suspend the constitution when it comes to suspected terrorists. Let the military give a jury of peers the evidence, and let the jury decide if they’re terrorists. Let the American people decide, not the military.
February 17th, 2010 at 2:44 pm

You really trust our government, rockstar.

Hue Jackson was under contract with Baltimore. you can’t make a lateral move, but you can leave for a promotion. Hiring Hue as QB Coach wasn’t an option.
he’s has much more success as a position coach in this league, than a Coordinator. If his OC stints in Washington & Atlanta were any indication of things to come in Oakland we all should be less than thrilled.
Cable was bad, but we don’t know if Jackson will be an improvement. If so, by how much?

February 17th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Dakota,
The whole idea of laws and customs of war is hilarious to me. Innocent civilians are getting killed by us in much larger numbers. Put what ever title you want on it, but dead people killed by a plane bomb = dead people killed by a human bomb.
I think “terrorists” use what’s at their disposal. I’m just saying if they were better organized and had more $, you would see them flying military planes to military bases. Lack of funds = they can’t get the plane gassesd up to get over here. They end up taking the bus to the local American owned business they can get to. All their targeting system can recognize.

@Dakota:
Here’s the reply that I posted in the last article explaining why I think it was a smart move to let Ryan’s contract expire without a re-up and hire Marshall:
“Dakota:
The inability to stop the run last year was more a function of horrible offensive line play letting offensive linemen get to the second level with their blocks than it was of bad defensive playcalling. If our defensive tackles were better than second-string quality (for any other team), then the run d wouldn’t be so porous. The reason that Morrison leads the team in tackles is because opponents just keep running it right up the middle on us with offensive guards and centers destroying Kelly and Warren with Morrison left holding the bag seven yards downfield to make the tackle when the ballcarriers run through the massive holes up front. You can’t blame the lack of run stoppage on the coordinator when the DTs can’t fight off a block. You can’t blame the run d’s yards against average on Marshall any more than you could on Ryan.
My argument against Ryan wasn’t about run d yardage, it was about how he went to a prevent defense every time we had a lead in hte fourth quarter… EVERY TIME. No matter how much time was left in the game. He caused us to lose more “won” games than anyone or anything else during his tenure. The only times that Ryan didn’t kill us in those situations were when we blocked a field goal against the Browns as time expired to keep the lead and in the game where Kiffin used the sneaky timeout just before the snap of a potential game-winning field goal and then the opponent missed the second try. If not for those two incidents, Ryan’s fourth quarter stupidity would’ve cost us two more than the many that it did anyway.”
February 17th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
What about the guy who killed that abortion doctor in Kansas? Haven’t clinics closed due to fear of a similar attack? Terrorism. Roe v. Wade has made abortion legal, rather you agree with it or not. Steve, I didn’t read that long comment, but were you seriously breaking down Marshall’s improvement of one ranking slot? Wow. OK, dude, stop straining your brain. Marshall was great, too. 26th ranked defense? Great. So, we have Al Davis going out on a limb to get the unknown Nnamdi Asomugha, and the second coming of Buddy Ryan, Jim Marshall, who steered the Raider defense from a meek 27th ranking to a stellar 26th. What other great ideas has Al come up with?
February 17th, 2010 at 3:17 pm
Considering the fact that Marshall has to make due with two horrible Defensive Tackles and has his hands bound on the gameplan for a majority of the time, I DO think that he was a great hire and is a great coordinator. You saw how we limited the Eagles in yardage, points, conversions; we pretty much shut down the Eagles offense in the ONE game in which Marshall was allowed to (or unilaterally decided to) call whatever plays HE wanted to. We know that’s the case because of the interviews with the coaches and with Nnamdi after that game. If Al ever lets Marshall have more control over playcalling and philosophy (maybe not TOTAL control, but at least more), then we’ll see how great a hire it really was. Of course, that’s contingent on Al actually letting him do his job for more than just the Eagles game instead of dictating the defense to him.

February 17th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
This defense wasn’t going to be fixed in one year. I think Marshall was pretty good last year, especially as the year went on. Instead of every play being at least a 6 yd gain, we fixed that and got down to just giving up the big plays, lol. That IS an improvement. Now we specifically need to upgrade MLB, nickel corner, and move Warren to a backup role, and we will get much better at reducing the big plays, IMO.
Add in an offense that can stay of the field and score some points, and you’ll really see an improvement on D.

Wait a minute, Krappy, just the other day you made it clear the blog was for football talk only.
Ahhhhh …. you’re just going back on your word once again – I get it.
Or should we just blame it all on senility?
Well, I guess as the first official “Blog Personality” in internet history you can fall back on whatever lame excuse you please.
Keep up with the fine work, Krap Krap!
February 17th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Agree Vegas, and he still came back and led the game winning drive. Same thing with game 1. Not a Peyton Manning like performance at all, but the team should have won the game.
That’s my point all along. This business about the team quitting after a Russell error is ridiculous. QBs throw picks, RBs fumble, and so on. keep playing and the game can be won!

February 17th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
The week one meltdown was the worst. We used that cover 1 all day and it just shut Rivers down. I’ve always thrown that idea around in here, of having one safety roam the middle, to force the opposing QB to throw toward our CBs, the strength of our defense. Wouldn’t answer all problems and you have to make adjustments. But it should be our base defense. We always use that 2 man under and even though our corners do a good job, we leave too much open in the middle with our safeties favoring toward their respective sidelines. All an opposing receiver has to do is get a step on their man coverage either up the middle or even on the sideline before the safety can get over to help, and we’re screwed. That’s basically the defense we always run.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
So, RMR… let me get this straight… you’re saying that you can accurately argue against something when you didn’t read it and don’t know what it says? I’m not trying to flame or insult you, but that seems pretty arrogant. Maybe you should read what I said and know what my reasons are before you try to disagree with them. It helps to know what you’re arguing against in a debate. Al dictating the defensive gameplan all season and the fact that our DTs are horrible is the reason for the 26th ranking and the horrible run D. When Marshall had free reign (the Eagles game), you see what happened, don’t you? Marshall was a great hire. If you don’t believe that Al dictated the gameplan for every game except Philly and don’t believe that Marshall acted outside the wishes of Al by calling it the way he did, then just watch the videos of Nnamdi’s postgame interviews or read the transcripts of those and Marshall’s and Cable’s interviews. They all talk about how Marshall will get in trouble for going outside the gameplan that Davis approved and blitzing more and going to more exotic playcalling.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:24 pm
He played 10 times better opening night. That was more like the 2008 Jamarcus. If we could have got that all year, there would have been no Bruce and we would have won at least an extra game or two.
But he fell apart in KC, and never really got it back together.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:24 pm
Steve, it’s not your confidence in Marshall anyone disagrees with. It’s your claim that he’s a great hire. Great. You’d have to think that great would get our defense from 27th to say, I dunno, 15th? He took us from 27th to 26th. I think “great” is a bit of a stretch.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Steve, I was actually guessing that you were trying to break down just how Marshall’s slim improvement is “great”. Thanks for confirming it.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
I blame Jamarcus Russell for John Marshall’s failings.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
The problem with the Raiders defense, is that Opposing OC’s read it like a comic book.
Having said such, Marshall did blitz more.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Actually Vegas, I think it was the Denver home game where it all came apart.
Those 2 picks early were killer.
The funny thing is, the first pick to DHB where he got his feet tangled up, no one called Russell’s fault. The announcers were killing DHB for his effort on the play.
The second pick, DHB was CLEARLY bumped coming out of his route and it should have been a flag.
And on top of both of those thingss, EVERYONE including Cable says the plays should not have been called out of our end zone.
Next game was on the road in NY and we all know what happened next.
Complete failure on so many levels by the offense, yet we keep talking about Russell.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
NY?
Giants go up 7-0
We get the ball, run-stuff, run-stuff, pass to Watkins DROPPED! Right off his hands.
Next possesion, Giants 14-0, game over!
February 17th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
Kell, exactly. We put two safeties in deep coverage, and everyone else in man. Unless you’ve got a killer pass rush, it’s a QBs wet dream. Sometimes our pass rush comes through. And when it does, more power to them. But they obviously don’t do it enough. And, they shouldn’t be expected to. It’s an archaic scheme to use as a base defense. Almost the entire NFL uses the Cover 2 as a base, meaning the true Cover 2, where the entire back 7 is usually in some sort of zone. They make their adjustments from there. We start with man, and rarely deviate from it. Just plain stupid.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
If you can’t see a difference between systematically targeting innocent people and mistaken bombing runs on homes that happen to have innocent people inside, I guess we shall just have to agree to disagree Jhill.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
I blame Tom Cable more so for terrible play-calling to start the Denver game. We got a goalline to start the game, and Cable drops the worst rated QB after two games into his own end zone twice, before he ever attempted to run the ball. Unbelievable, each time Russell dropped back we all held our breath. First one a shaky incompletion, next play pick.
Pass-protection wasn’t an issue though. Jamarcus locked in on his WR and threw it softly into double coverage, and DHB just fell down.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
RMR,
I never said that Marshall’s slim improvement was great, I said that he was a great hire. If he’s allowed to do his job without having the gameplan dictated to him, then the improvement will be far greater than one ranking spot. You saw how well the D performed when he had free reign in the Eagles game. So, how did my post confirm what you assumed again? It didn’t. I never defended the D’s overall performance last year, because I believe that is attributable to Al’s dictated gameplans and philosophy. I defended Marshall and his ability to improve the Defense if he’s allowed to do it his way in the future.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:40 pm

He “JUST” fell down? That’s pretty importan, no?
I also remember the JLH/Murphy debacle at the end of the 2nd SD game I believe it was. We had a chance to win on that drive and “they just fell down”, lol!
February 17th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Do you not see the difference there, RMR? If I owned a landscaping business and hired the greatest mower in the country… then told him he could only mow with a pair of scissors… the performance wouldn’t be defendable, but the hiring WOULD be. I’m saying that if Al stops limiting what Marshall is allowed to do, then Marshall will show that he truly was a great hire.
He already showed me that with the Philly game (the one that Nnamdi, Marshall, and Cable all said that Marshall would get in trouble for, because he went away from Al’s gameplan).
February 17th, 2010 at 3:42 pm
It’s all good Dakota. I get what you’re saying. I’m just sayin …
February 17th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Dakota, what mistaken bombing runs on homes? We bomb targets where were know there’s a likeliness of innocent civilians being there, and in the case of Iraq, it was all in the name of oil and money for defense contractors. There’s no mistake about it. What mistakes are you referring to? Do you mean as in moral mistakes, where one admits they made a mistake and makes amends for it, and DOESN’T DO IT AGAIN? Because I don’t see that, either.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Our WR’s did Jamarcus no favors, that was obvious.
But if DHB stays on his feet it just would have hopefully fell incomplete. That pass was doomed as soon as it left his hand.
February 17th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
Steve, so, Marshall is great based upon what he could do if Davis wasn’t controlling him? Well then, so is Kiffin, right?

SteveAlford21,
Don’t get me wrong, I was very glad to see Ryan go. My only point is that the Raider Nation needs to stop falling in love with guys simply because they are marginally better than the POS they replaced.
Marshall is nothing special. Is he better than Ryan? Yes, but not leaps and bounds better. Addis Seymour on D could have been the cause of the very slight upward movement we saw in the defensive rankings.
Is Garbagekowski better than Russell? Yes, but not by much.
Is Cable better than some of the other POS coaches we’ve had recently? No, but some here believe so, and they kiss the ground the moron walks on.
All of them should be replaced. They shouldn’t keep there jobs simply because the last piece of trash made them look acceptable.

KK,
We warned the Japanese citizens prior to the bombings. Did terrorists go to the World Trade Center and hand out leaflets like this prior to the attack?
“Read this carefully as it may save your life or the life of a relative or friend. In the next few days, some or all of the cities named on the reverse side will be destroyed by American bombs. These cities contain military installations and workshops or factories which produce military goods. We are determined to destroy all of the tools of the military clique which they are using to prolong this useless war. But, unfortunately, bombs have no eyes. So, in accordance with America’s humanitarian policies, the American Air Force, which does not wish to injure innocent people, now gives you warning to evacuate the cities named and save your lives. America is not fighting the Japanese people but is fighting the military clique which has enslaved the Japanese people. The peace which America will bring will free the people from the oppression of the military clique and mean the emergence of a new and better Japan. You can restore peace by demanding new and good leaders who will end the war. We cannot promise that only these cities will be among those attacked but some or all of them will be, so heed this warning and evacuate these cities immediately.”
Do they hand out warnings at the cafe they are about to destroy?

==================================================
Actually, that’s not true. If I remember correctly, Denver got the ball lst and drove down and scored. They kicked to us and we got a penalty on the return. lst and ten from about our ten. lst play was a well executed screen to Michael Bush that got 8 yards. 2nd play, 2nd and two, was an off tackle run to McFadden who fumbles, there is a scramble, we recover, but lose 9 yards on the play. On the 3rd and 11, DHB falls down, the ball is picked, they return it inside the Oakland 20. The crowd boos Russell. That may not be right, but that is how I remember it.
Denver ends up going for it on 4th and 9 inches. They get stuffed. We take over on the 4 inch line. Cable calls a deep pass, which really is not a bad play call, and as Jhill says, Champ Bailey leaves his man, puts a shoulder into DHB 20 yards down field, no call, ball is picked. Welcome to the NFL son.

KK, along with dropping those leaflets 5 days prior to the bombing of Hiroshima, we also broadcast the same message from Saipan every 15 minutes prior to the bombing.
Did we get a fax or e-mail from the terrorists prior to them trying attacking the WTC warning all innocent civilians to evacuate the building?
February 17th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Vegas,
You think Nnamdi’s reaction was priceless, you should have seen mine. I’m just glad they showed it on replay or else Russell would have been bashed for simply holding on to the ball to long, lol!
And yes, the pass was doomed from the time it left his hand. Because as you say, the play should have never been called. And yes DHB needs to AT LEAST stay on his feet and make a play on the ball. Do you remember Irvin talking about that play after the game? KILLED DHB!
February 17th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
RMR,
I actually believe that Kiffin did a great job of improving the team’s mentality and attitude. I believe that JR would be much further along in terms of ability and progression if Kiffin’s plans for him had continued (although I was against drafting JR from the start and agreed with Kiffin’s assessments).
If Kiffin had been given even a marginal amount of control of the staff, roster, offensive philosophy, or basically anything that was HIS job to do and not Al’s… I believe Kiffin would have been a great coach for the Raiders. Our record didn’t improve by leaps and bounds, but that doesn’t happen overnight. A coach needs a few years to implement a system and acclimate the players and staff. Kiffin wasn’t given a full chance and had both hands tied the whole time.

Agreed Jhill. JR had 12 picks, but honestly, if you look back at all of them, how many times was he throwing into triple coverage or just throwing it up for grabs? I honestly believe that JR is a pretty good decision maker. Even in clollege, he has never been a big interception guy and in 2008, he only threw eight in 15 starts. Compare that to 20 by “Sanchise”. Both his picks against SD in the 1st game were against single coverage. If Murphy or DHB even attempt to try and make the catch, worst case-scenario those are incompletions. Revis made an unbelievable pick in single coverage against Watkins. If we were to break down every one of his picks this season, there are very few that were because he misread the defense and/or made bad decisions. The guy tried to give his receivers a chance to make plays against single coverage and they failed. I won’t try and defend him for most of the 1st KC game. He missed some throws, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the talking heads made it sound. And when the final drive came along, JR was deadly accurate and poised. Even Dan Marino admitteded that what JR showed on that drive is what you’re looking for in a franchise QB. Look around the league. I don’t care if we’re talking about Indy or NO, receivers in the NFL make great plays. No QB in this league throws a perfect pass everytime. Receivers in the NFL are paid to make plays. Look how much better JR played when he had Schilens who fights for the ball and makes plays. We were too green at the WR position this year, that’s the bottom line. This team will look totally different in 2010.
February 17th, 2010 at 4:10 pm
Dakota,
If not for the Eagles game, I wouldn’t say that Marshall was a great hire. I would be agreeing with all of you about how the overall ranking only went up one notch and how nothing had really changed. That game, however, showed what Marshall is capable of as a coordinator when he acts on his own and doesn’t follow the gameplan that Al dictated to him (as evidenced by Cable, Marshall, and Nnamdi all saying that that’s what he did in their postgame interviews).
When Ryan acted on his own, we were in prevent defense constantly and lost leads… when Marshall acted on his own, we shut down a playoff offense for an entire game and held them to single-digit scoring. THAT tells me that he’s not just marginally better than Ryan… he’s leaps and bounds above and beyond what Ryan is. I didn’t fall in love with Marshall because he’s a marginal improvement over his predecessor (as you seem to think is the case with me); I think he was a great hire because he’s a massive improvement over Ryan… when he’s allowed to call a defensive game HIS OWN way.

Dakota, I couldn’t agree with you more about DHB making James Jett look like Jerry Rice.
I was screaming for BJ Raji when our slot came up and was thinking that the worst-case scenario for us would be Crabtree (no NEED for a receiver) or Maclin (because of the fear that Crabtree was damaged goods). Sadly, I had a bad feeling that we’d take DHB after the NFL profile and interview with him earlier on draft day… where they showed his combine 40 time and his handful of receptions on long bombs at Maryland. *sigh* If only Al would draft some linemen instead of fast skill position players…
February 17th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
I believe that JR would be much further along in terms of ability and progression if Kiffin’s plans for him had continued
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
We finally agree on something Steve. And though Kiffin didn’t want to draft JR, I believe that he won Kiffen over. The Kiffen/Knapp/JR trimvirate was clearly on a path to success until it was derailed by the Kiffen/Davis feud. And I blame both of them for that. Even still, Cable should have done everything in his power to keep Knapp on his staff. We had a good football team at the end of 2008. Then we quietly had the worst offseason in the NFL going into 2009.

SteveAlford21,
Okay, so eliminate the preceived Al Davis influnce from Marshall’s resume and what are you left with?
In his prior 11 years as a coordinator, Marshall has proven he is average to below average with the exception of one season in SF. And remember, there were not 32 teams in the NFL during much of his DC days…
Year Team Yds/Rk Sacks/Rk Pts
1983 Atlanta 364.1/25 31/26 24.3
1984 Atlanta 329.9/15 38/22 23.9
1985 Atlanta 365.6/25 42/17 28.2
1997 San Fran 250.8/1 54/3 16.6
1998 San Fran 333.9/23 51/3 20.5
1999 Carolina 343.9/26 35/23 23.8
2000 Carolina 353.5/27 27/27 19.4
2001 Carolina 371.4/31 26/28 25.6
2006 Seattle 330.3/19 41/6 21.3
2007 Seattle 321.8/15 50/1 18.2

And if you guys remember right, the VERY lst drive of the year, the Raiders are executing. Russell looks good, we are running the ball well, Russell rolls out right to hit Louis Murphy on about the SD 10. The SD DB jumps in front of Murphy picks it, and here we go. February 17th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
For the record, I think DHB’s only chance to become anything resembling an NFL receiver is for him to spend the entire offseason working masonry with Jerry Rice’s dad throwing bricks down to him from a rooftop. The first three broken bricks each day will cost DHB a meal a piece for that day and each brick after will cost him one million dollars.
I firmly believe that this is the only way that DHB will ever learn the ball focus, hand-eye coordination, and technique required to turn his stonehands into receiver’s hands.

Dakota,
There are plenty of great coordinators who had a lot of bad seasons earlier in their careers. The past IS a good way of measuring potential, but it isn’t the end-all. I’m judging Marshall’s ability based on what he’s shown me CURRENTLY. This past season, in the lone game that he was calling entirely on his own, we shut down a playoff offense for four quarters. There were no truly bad defensive series. There were no head-scratching “Why did we play it that way?” moments. I’m not interested in how well Marshall did three years ago, I’m interested in how well he can do now.

Reid fell into a trap he has fallen into before…they were getting 5 yards per carry if I recall, and they simply kept on passing.
I guess if you want to judge someone by one game go ahead…Raider fans do that all the time. Personally, I would rather base my opinion on a coach from his 11 year record. I think that is enough time to establish that the guy is average to below average at his job.

Seymour Bush,
We both we’re off a little bit. We got the ball first, got 1 yard on first, fumble by Darren on 2nd, short completion punt.
Stuff Denver on 4th and goal. Than incomplete and pick.
Denver score, than we go run run INT.

February 17th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
When you look at it furthur, trailing 7-0 we have a 2nd and 8, and McFadden finally doesn’t fumble and gets 15 yards.
Next play, another mis-fire down the field towards the great decoy.
Why is Cable calling passes to DHB on 1st and 10? Trailing 7-0? Right after a 15 yard run? Right after the VERY LAST pass attempt was to DHB and was picked?
Hue has to be a major improvement in play-calling

I’m a libertarian, so the partisan angle of any political posts here is of no concern to me, so don’t think I’m saying this because I’m a member of your opposing party. That having been said, here’s my question: Why the hell are you posting that crap on a football blog? I’m sure there are plenty of political message boards for anyone who wants to discuss politics.
I would like to nicely request that all the people who waste the space here with non-football posts PLEASE relegate those opinions to a space dedicated to the pursuit and discussion of such. Those of us who aren’t involved in your side-topic conversations and arguments really dislike having to scroll down through post after post of bombing and economy and political and religious and otherwise irrelevant-to-football comments. Out of politeness to the rest of us, will all of you please keep things that aren’t at least ancillary to Raiders topics out of the Raider blogs/boards? Thanks in advance.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
How does a libertarian ask for “politeness”, lol?
People can post whatever the hell they want. There is a moderator, and if Jerry is slanging site hits for McDonalds’ money the more the marrier.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
If Free Agency starts March 5th, I set the over/under by when Bruce will be re-signed by the Raiders at March 11th.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Vegas, I realize that there is a moderator and that people CAN post whatever they want… that’s why I asked people politely to choose not to do what they CAN do… out of courtesy and consideration to others. If you were on a political message board and a some retarded Broncos fans came in and started long diatribes, rants, and pointless discussions about the Donks… wouldn’t you ask them to take it to a sports blog/board? I’m willing to bet that most people wouldn’t ask very nicely, either.
I know that everyone can post whatever the hell they want, I just spoke up for myself and others who would appreciate it if the politics and such were discussed elsewhere. Someone can post a ten-page comment about how you think the KKK is great and how Hitler should have killed every member of every minority if that’s what you want to post. That doesn’t mean that it’s appropriate for this board or that it doesn’t bother other people for you to discuss it here. Better yet, let’s go to the rape victims support blogs and discuss how to pick up cheerleaders0 at spring break. There was no call for you to be a smartass there. I guess that’s how some people respond to a polite request. (If your panties were already in a wad over something else and you were being a smartass because you wanted to discuss politics and wanted to stand up for your right to say whatever you want, then I apologize for pointing out that you were being a petulant child who yells, “I’ll do what I want and you can’t stop me!”
February 17th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
No offense, Vegas. I actually agree with a lot of the posts you’ve made that I’ve seen. I just think saying “People can post whatever the hell they want. There is a moderator,” is a childish and smartassed way to reply to a request to discuss politics in a place designed to discuss politics, rather than in a place designed to discuss the Raiders.

February 17th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Folks,
This team is terrible. Why? Because the Owner devalues lineplay and coaching. He routinely drafts players and pays free agents based on 40x, former 1st round picks or if they played in the super bowl. Davis is in complete control of the coaching staff, which prevents us from getting a functional staff.
Can’t win with this madness. The Raiders are the SOFTEST team in the NFL. Can’t tackle, can’t block and can’t throw…its pitiful.
Oh, the defense is TERRIBLE. When you give up 155 yds per game on the ground…you have a bad defense. I don’t care if the offense goes 3 and out on every play.
How about getting starting caliber tackles….linebackers….and changing up the scheme.

Back to the Raiders, I pray Russell has a good year at Qb for us. Don’t want to be stuck with the worst draft bust in history label.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
SnB,
We are a lot further along than you give us credit for. 3 or 4 position upgrades, and we are right there contending for the division. RT, MLB, DT, and a nickle corner away from being really good.
I assume Gallery and Walker will be back and healthy as starting OGs.
Cable identified the Oline, DLine, and KR as areas that must be upgraded. I think we’ll see Al spend some coin on one of those areas as well as focus the draft on it.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
I’d still compare Russell to Vinny Testaverde.
The only difference is that JaMarcus is likely to retire after his time with the Raiders. Whereas, Vinny kept trying to salvage his career after six bad years with the Bucs.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
jhill,
You forgot QB, and OC.
Spending money on a kick returner has never really worked in the NFL.
Once a player has a few million in the bank, they are a lot more reluctant to run full speed into a mass bodies and helmets.
Usually a KR is found in the draft, has a couple good years then is done. Either he is injured or becomes rich.
They should spend at least one late pick trying to find a great returner.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
Jamarcus Russell is the least of our concerns. We need to be more worried aboout Green being replaced at RT, and Cooper Carlisle also being replaced. With Satele starting at C, it is imperative that Gallery come back healthy at 320lbs and Walker and his 330lbs so they both flank our weak C.
We also need to be concerned about not having Routt play the nickle corner. He is AWFUL in the inside.
None of these things get fixed, won’t matter who the QB is.
February 17th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
I think Nick Miller will return kicks for us Northern D. I just know it won’t be Holland or Russell. Not suggesting any real coin will be spent on the position.

Hmmmm. I’ll believe it when I see it Jhill. Let’s see if the Raiders really try to fix the RG/RT/DT/ with more than just a token free agent band aid or some late round draft pick.
A good place to start would be using 3 of the 1st 4 picks on the above positions…perhaps a high value free agent.
I just know that this team has a penchant for over investing in skill players and throwing nickels at aging free agents or 2nd chance type players for the rest.
Bet you that if Taylor Mays runs that 4.2 or better he’s a Raider. Huff get released and we have another fleet footed, yet raw, DB.

I’d like to see some competition for the job, and not hand it to someone who didn’t play a down last year. Some 5′09″ track star from Nowhere state who is desparate to play in the NFL. (Actually that sounds like Nick Miller)
I don’t think Walker is anything more than a fill-in at guard. When he started, Cable had to cut a ton of plays because he didn’t have the quickness to handle the assignments. He may be a good in-line blocker, but that’s it.
They need to address that position in the draft.

Tex Guy,
I personally don’t know anything of soldiers or sacrifice, that I’ll admit. Neither does Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, nor most of their administration that started this war.
Why would you ask me if I spit on soldiers? I don’t spit on people I feel sorry for. I wish people would stop enlisting until the Iraq War is ended, as far as those who already have enlisted, I wish they wouldn’t be taken advantage of by a government controlled by oil lobbies and defense contractors.
Regarding me having no ground to talk about soldiers, excuse me? You have no ground to say that! As a tax paying, American citizen, I have all the ground I need to comment on the American soldiers. I’m paying them.
As far as me saying ignorant things on this blog, care to state them? If you disagree with anything I’ve said, why not just state your case to the contrary? Why go to ad hominem attacks?
And, no need to wait till tomorrow to read my response. Here it is for you tonight. I’ll check for your response tomorrow. And please, try putting up an argument this time. Insults are for children. Surely you can do better.

I agree he needs to work on his ball security. I’m sure his coaches are trying to get him to keep two hands on the ball. It would help though if he wasn’t always getting hit. To me if a QB gets blidsided by a hit, it’s a crapshoot as to whether or not he’s gonna fumble. What I do like about Russell is that he concentrates on what’s going on down the field instead of looking at the rush. If we protect this guy, he’s going to be very good.

Not that I don’t like JR bashing or political aruguments, but back to the question of importance of FAs…
Overlooked is the long snapper. Condo is a FA this year as well. 32 million for a punter and kicker will be wasted if you do not have someone in there who can reliably get the ball to them. Ask one of the many teams this year who lost a game because of a bad snap when they were backed up against the endzone on a punt or the last second game winning field goal attempt that was missed due to an errant snap!
The long snapper is a zero deffect position and best I can tell Condo was zero deffect. There are at least 14 teams that will snatch him up in a split second if Al doesn’t resign him. Even if selected as a “need” player pro bowlers normally make more than the league minimum. Come on Al, think of your 32 million dollar investment in the kicking game.

February 18th, 2010 at 4:58 am
I am off to the salt mines, but I leave you with some football gossip found at another website.
True story:
A friend of mine was a friend of former Oakland Raider John Matuszak.
“Tooz” used to save his expensive wine bottles and then fill them with crappy, cheap wine and serve it to his guests, mostly his teammates, who would compliment him on how good the wine is and what a great wine connoisseur he was.
I also met Tooz several times and the stories about his partying are way understated.
The guy put amounts of a certain powder up his nose that would’ve given Godzilla a heart attack.
He was actually a really nice guy when he was sober.
Soft spoken, very polite, a real gentleman.
But when he was drinking and doing drugs, he was a different person and not one you would want to be around, even if he was your best friend.

hopefully I won’t have any meetings scheduled today. yesterday was brutal
February 18th, 2010 at 6:42 am
I think Morrison and Howard would combine for the best starting OLB’s in football. Morrison is to small to play MLB. They are both really fast and are really good in coverage, but both are easily bluffed on play action and constantly over pursue, likely because our Dline is so porous. Fix the Dline this year and get a MLB if possible! Should be our absolute biggest focus. BTW, there is no way Al lets Howard or Morrison walk.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:44 am
Panthers DL (besides Peppers) are available: Tyler Brayton & Hollis Thomas
some Raider fans were upset when Brayton left because Rob Ryan had him play 4 different positions in 4 years with the team. Then in Year #1 with Carolina he was a 16 game starter at DE and they made the playoffs
February 18th, 2010 at 6:50 am
release Justin Fargas and go get Jamal Lewis (both players are 30 years old)
over 2800 rushing yards and 15 TD’s with Cleveland over the past 3 years. He could teach Mike Bush a thing or two about being physical
Lewis trucks LB’s on a regular basis!
February 18th, 2010 at 6:50 am
Capt Kirk takes a ton of abuse on this blog, but you have to wonder why he’s considered one of the Top MLB’s in the game to all the players, coaches and NFL analysts around the league

February 18th, 2010 at 6:52 am
Fargas has 2350 yards and 8 TD’s with Oakland the past 3 seasons (his most productive)
neither player is probably considered “durable” or 16 game starter at this point in their careers
February 18th, 2010 at 6:55 am

February 18th, 2010 at 6:57 am
Rockstar….when Cable was the O-line coach,Fargas had 1007 yards in 9 games.Injuries,Cable trying to wear too many hats and opposing D’s realizing #2 couldnt hit the broad side of Calli put an end to our 6th and 10th ranked rushing attack. If our QB,any QB,can complete those short or screen passes it opens up our running game.In short….no way would I trade Fargas for Lewis

Yes all the important things in life Jamarcus, “clothes, jewels, and jets”.
Did anyone else see the clip? Still had the gut going. I place the over/under on how long he was actually in Arizona at 9 days.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:59 am
4eva: Jamal Lewis is a free agent
we wouldn’t have to trade for him.
plus he’d probably come cheap because he finished last year on IR with a concussion
February 18th, 2010 at 7:00 am
I gained new respect for Fargas last year after watching DMAC continually trip over his skirt. Justin would come in, clearly PO’d, drop his shoulder on a sweep and get up with his helmet cockeyed and his eyes crossed.
Was the best part of several games.
February 18th, 2010 at 7:01 am
Could you imagine if Fargas would’ve stayed healthy,he was on track to join the 2000 yard club.Like Dickerson!!!
February 18th, 2010 at 7:01 am
So say that Cable is retained (officially of course) and Hue does the O while Cable works with that guy from Cal on the OL…could it be possible that Fargas, Bush and DMac average about 700 yards each?
February 18th, 2010 at 7:03 am
in other words … God made Russell a 1 year wonder at LSU so Al Davis would break the bank on him?
is that what JR is getting at?

February 18th, 2010 at 7:07 am
4eva: Fargas averaged 112 yards per game if he ran for 1007 yards in 9 games in 2007.
thats just under 1800 yards bro – not 2000+
plus, when is the last time Fargas stayed healthy enough to be a 16 game starter?
February 18th, 2010 at 7:07 am
BSJ,
Fargas was our used the most in the Bengals and Steelers game. When our offense looked just about at it’s best.
Also got a lot of carries in the Eagles game.
One of our best runs of the year was a 3rd and 8 draw to Fargas in the Steelers game. Broke 2 tackles and help setup a FG that kept us in the game in the first half.
I would like to see Darren or Bush take the job from him, but Bush is now going on back to back years of only playing his best ball late in December after he plays his way into shape.
And Darren……well let’s hope we found him a new position.
February 18th, 2010 at 7:07 am

Raiders actually may not have shanked kicker deal
Feb. 17, 2010
By Ray Ratto
CBSSports.com Columnist
The Oakland Raiders are one of the truly Pavlovian experiences in sports — they do something, we laugh. Their fans defend them, armed with only their game-day face paint and blinkered devotion, and we laugh some more.
Thus, Sebastian Janikowski’s new $16 million contract, $9 million of which is guaranteed, and which was described by his own agent as “monstrous,” got the usual reaction. When you add it to the fact that the Oakland punter, Shane Lechler, is the highest-paid foot in the game (Janikowski passed Tennessee’s Rob Bironas for second, unless Bironas’ next contract pulls him ahead), well, much hilarity ensued at Al Davis’ expense.
Again.
But this is one of those signings that actually makes sense for them, for any number of reasons, starting with this one:
Did you see the way the playoff kickers performed?
You see, kicking is and always has been a much underrated department of the game, and whether you like the idea of kickers being called football players or even being employed by football teams, the rules that cover this clearly exist and aren’t going to be changed any time soon. So live with it, or watch something else.
(We would even extend the pro-kicker argument to the number of times you got to argue with someone over whether someone should have gone for a field goal or a touchdown, and how much fun you had calling each other names while clutching a beer — now those are great times).
Anyway, you got kickers, and you’re going to keep having kickers, so if you have a chance to nail down one of the best ones, you do it. You can quibble about the money viz. the salary cap, but the fact is that the Raiders have only two strengths — Janikowski and Lechler — and losing either would ensure more Raider football, only worse.
Besides, given that these are the Raiders, and especially going into an uncapped year, what makes you think they would wisely spend the money they saved on Janikowski?
The best you can say for the draft picks the Raiders have expended in this decade is that some of them turn out to develop in time into useful if not extraordinary players, and after a fair amount of abuse, like guard Robert Gallery and safety Michael Huff. The worst you can say is that some of them start off like JaMarcus Russell, who, if he actually achieves late-bloomer status, would make him comeback player of the quarter century.
Now if this seems a backward reason to praise the Janikowski signing — that they’d just waste the money on something way worse — so be it.
But as miserable as the Raiders can be (they still haven’t gotten around to announcing that the process for evaluating coach Tom Cable has finally ended, and haven’t announced the Janikowski deal as of this writing), they are hardly helped by letting one of their few identifiable assets become a free agent.
And yes, we are here including the fact that Janikowski began his career on the business end of too many brushes with the law; there have been no such recorded incidents in eight years, and at some point one has to assume he has either lightened up or tightened up.
Indeed, his only truly embarrassing moment in those eight years wasn’t even his fault — Lane Kiffin sent him out to try a 76-yard field goal right before halftime of Kiffin’s last game with the Raiders two years ago. Janikowski, in effect, was sent onto the field to serve as a middle finger to Davis, which is weird work if you can get it.
But as a performer, both place-kicking and kicking off after those field goals (the Raiders don’t score touchdowns), his numbers essentially stand on their own. And if kicking is important, the best should be paid as though it was.
And no, it doesn’t matter whether you think kicking is important. It is, because the National Football League says it is. It is, because the playoffs just proved they are.
Thus, at the risk of losing our union card over this kind of behavior, we say that the Raiders did not screw up by paying Sebastian Janikowski that “monstrous” money. And fret not. They’ll give you plenty of other reasons to laugh at them later.
After all, just because Pavlov’s theories don’t work every time, they still work often enough.

Johnny,
I think we’ll be saying “wow. can’t believe a couple of scrubs like Cable & Gradkowski actually led this league to an 8-8 record. it’s a miracle!”
or
“Hue Jackson was brought in to save JaMarcus, but he couldn’t get the job done. At least he proved to be a pretty decent play caller and helped develop McFadden & Heyward-Bey!”
February 18th, 2010 at 10:11 am

February 18th, 2010 at 10:12 am
I could just see James getting hammered in the 80’s for all that silly stuff he does, throwing up chalk or his handshakes just imagine him doing that in Detroit around 89 they would have killed him. Funny how much better Curry runs the Dubs but usually helps to have a PG who passes the ball funny concept.

Mawae?
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Shakeup for Titans? Kevin Mawae’s agent says he won’t be backup
Titans C Kevin Mawae could be in for quite the hectic offseason.
The NFLPA president already had plenty on his plate amid the league’s unsettling labor situation, which could cause the salary cap to evaporate next month.
But it also appears Tennessee will let Mawae, an eight-time Pro Bowler including the past two seasons, test the free-agent market in a few weeks.
“I think all things being equal he’d love to be back,” Mawae’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The (Nashville) Tennessean. He also noted that the new five-year deal the Titans are giving to LG Eugene Amano could make it tougher to retain Mawae’s services.
“But he is a Pro Bowl center still, one of the top centers in the league, and anywhere he’s going to go he is going to play and be the starter, and I think the Titans have a young guy there they are trying to bring along and they just made a big investment in Amano,” Bartelstein said. “So I am not sure that the role Kevin would have as a Titan is worthy of what Kevin is as a player right now.”
Mawae turned 39 last month and has 16 years in the league. The Titans have 25-year-old Leroy Harris waiting in the wings if Mawae departs.
Tennessee also has decisions to make on free-agents-to-be in DE Kyle Vanden Bosch and longtime LB Keith Bulluck, who tore up his knee near the end of the 2009 season. — Nate Davis

Rockstar,
Mawae could be a decent signing, but at $10 million per year? Don’t think so. That’s premiere left tackle in his prime money. Not the kind of salary you throw at a roughly 40-year-old center. Probably something more in the ballpark of $4 million per year might be more than enough.

Joseph Stack Manifesto: Austin Plane Crash Pilot’s Blog Text

Joseph Andrew Stack, identified as the pilot who crashed a stolen plane into the Echelon Building, which houses IRS offices, was found to have written an online manifesto. The Joseph Stack manifesto is an anti-big-brother rant, railing against the US tax and legal systems and its effect on everyday people.
According to existing registry information, embeddedart is registered to Joseph Stack. The reports of a Joseph Stack manifesto surfaced on Twitter, but we checked out the domain registry ourselves to be sure. The text of the manifesto also includes Joseph Stack’s date of death: February 18, 2010.
February 18th, 2010 at 11:01 am

“Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country’s leaders don’t see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies. Yet, the political “representatives” (thieves, liars, and self-serving scumbags is far more accurate) have endless time to sit around for year after year and debate the state of the “terrible health care problem”. It’s clear they see no crisis as long as the dead people don’t get in the way of their corporate profits rolling in.”

Come On Dakota, anyone with any type of conservative background has absolutely nothing to say. 20 years of conservative policy has bankrupted and ruined the country and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. The economy: ruined. Education: ruined Health Industry: ruined Environment: ruined.
The conservatives have over doubled the defense budget to almost $800BILLION PER YEAR in the last few years! That is more than the next 9 countries: COMBINED! Since most of that investment does not go back into the general economy it is a HUGE drain on the American economy and a very poor economic driver. And in order to justify those incredibly HUGE defense investments you better have a few wars going just to keep the whole charade going. Now you know why we have a couple of wars going on right now.

But I’m sure he’ll appear soon, right after he finishes signing his contract to be on next season’s Celebrity Fit Club.

Bush and Cheney allowed the CIA to pour some water over the faces of captured terrorists and there was an uproar from the left.
Obama farms that work out to Pakistan, which will go much further torturing the prisoners than anything done under the Bush administration, and no uproar.
Why the hypocrisy?
I applaud Obama for allowing the Pakistanis to do what we are too afraid to do.

You really think this is an accurate description of waterboarding? Experts don’t, thats why the CIA used it.
And I see no reports of US sanctioned torture in Pakistan, although you never know.
You are also very quick to discount the dangers of having our captured servicemen subjected to torture, in these wars or in the future. It is easy for pseudo-patriots who never served (such as yourself, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Gingrich) to ignore the sacrifice and risks faced by our troops.

You can’t be kidding. Like Bush and Cheney’s regime didn’t have extraordinary rendition and torture cells all over the place.
Bush Cheney went a little further than “pouring some water over the faces of some captured terrorists”. They and their corporate buddies raped the American coffers, erroded our freedoms and privacies, ruined our economy and helped poison our food supply with franken foods and cloned corn products in everything.

As far as Russell only thanking his perceived deity for material things, and not football talent, consider who signs his checks. Al Davis has fostered an environment where football is a low priority, yet overpaying mediocre players is a high priority. Does it surprise you that one of Al Davis’s overpaid players is thanking the invisible man in the sky for cars and jewelry and not football talent? Football talent isn’t required on the team he plays for.

Back to football. Here Rockstar here is a list of some of the DT’s in this draft. This is a VERY deep class of DT’s this year, and some VERY good prospects are here:
Nndamakung Suh 6′3″ 304 Best player in the draft at ANY position
Gerald McCoy 6′3″ 298 If Suh isn’t, McCoy IS!
Dan Williams 6′3″ 325- Williams is the lst prospect that might be able to cover the NT position in either odd or even fronts. He is a tad smaller than Gerard Warren tho, and most of you guys think Warren is not NT material
Brian Price 6′2″ 297
Terrance Cody 6′4″ 365-here is the lst real NT in the bunch
Lamar Houston 6′2″ 302 Houston would be an excellent choice for us in the 3rd round, if he lasts that long.
Cam Thomas 6′4″ 330-here is another legitimate NT prospect. Thomas had an EXCELLENT senior bowl week, and many thought he might have jumped from the 4th round all the way to the 2nd.
February 18th, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Out of RG, RT, NT, MLB, and CB, I think that Cornell Green HAS to be replaced. 2nd would be Warren.

Rd1 – OT
Rd2 – DT

Rd2 – CB
Rd3 – WR
Rd4 – Safety
Rd5 – OL or DL
February 18th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
These guys always talk about how Al’s not going to leave, and that he’s going to do what he’s doing to do, yet they come up with these draft scenarios involving Al drafting all of these players that Al would never draft because they don’t fit his mold of good combine numbers yet unable to take a hit. It’s ok for them to dream…

***
I thought Johnson (kentucky) was a MLB? no?
why would we draft 2 MLB’s in the first 3 rounds?
February 18th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
Here’s a more likely scenario
Rd 1 – Traded to New England for $100
Rd 2 – Traded to New England for a receiver who just happens to have the name “Branch”. New England receives $100 dollars, as well.
Rd 3 – Traded to New England for a promise of Bill Belichick taking a picture with Al Davis, and signing it, “to my friend, Al Davis. I still get advice from him”.
Rd 4 – WR
February 18th, 2010 at 2:41 pm

February 18th, 2010 at 2:41 pm

This fastest combine player propaganda is hilarious.
When was the last time Al didn’t draft a position of need? WR was a clear need last year. May have taken the wrong player, but the position was correct.
Fargas? Puhleeze! DMAC was a need pick too. Fastest player was Chris Johnson, and we didn’t take him.
Once Walter got Jim Everettitis in the pocker, QB was a need. You do realize we passed on the typical so called Al Davis players in Johnson and Peterson than year.

666,
Take a shot at it.
WR last year – JLH and Chaz Schillens were out leading WRs with all of what 30 catches? Even Nnamdi was lobbying for Maclin.
RB the prior year – I guess you can argue that a top ten rushing attack didn’t need a RB. But there was no weapon on our offense for the new young QB to grow with. Not ONE so called expert disagreed with the pick.
QB – Already covered Walter and his Everettitis.
FS – Huff HAD to be the pick and again was applauded by all the so called experts. Stuey and the messes before him had to go.

Did the trade really take place during the game, Norco? I don’t like that, if so. What a bad morale to set. When your players know they can be traded in the middle of a game. The Kings are acting like the Raiders. They’re better than that.

Sorry on last post, hit the wrong button.
MR,
You agree that you don’t know about Soldiers yet you make baseless comments about them. Then you say that insults are for children, then you finish the post with an insult. I don’t understand. Please explain to me what this makes you…
Possibly a hypocrite? Just a question.

why would we draft 2 MLB’s in the first 3 rounds?

If Spikes is a mid first-rounder, do we listen to trade down scenarios and pass on McClain and take Spikes?
February 18th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Tex Guy, could you care to define a “baseless comment”?
What are American soldiers?
They are property of the United States Government, which is a representative government in which I have a vote. So explain to me how me making a comment about the troops is “baseless”, considering I’m paying them? And, where did I insult you? It’s not an insult to say you’re acting like a child. You are. When you barge into a discussion without any point to make other than to personally insult someone just for something they said, it is childish. Anyhow, get back to me on your theory that my opinions of our troops are “baseless”, because it makes no sense whatsoever.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:36 pm
Seriously, the Kings took a time out when some suit came in a hurry to tell Westphal to pull Martin,…he never went back in,..that was in second quarter,…almost as bad as when Canseco was traded while in on deck circle,..no MR, dont think Im cool because I dont obsess over Al Davis,…hes never been the reason I go to games, and he sure wont be the reason I dont go to games…word.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Norco, fair enough. I just think it’s insane to give someone Al Davis money. If I enjoyed the company of other people who go to games that much, I’d just hang out with them in other venues. Why reward Al Davis? What has he done for you?
February 18th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
give someone *like* Al Davis money, is what I meant.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
I dont feel Im giving him money,..I look at it as Im giving the players money,..Like Nhambdi…Seabass,..Shane…Seymour,…the tv networks give al davis their cash.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
I just can’t see spending money on a football team unless they’re serious about competing, and ran by sane management that knows how to compete. The Raiders meet neither of these requirements. There’s so many better things I can think of to spend my money on.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
Do you go to games of all teams to support the players, Norco, or just the Raiders?
February 18th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
MR,
As it reads it looks like you are stating that Soldiers are brainwashed as fact. That is what I am saying is baseless. Unless, you are attributing your sources as the National Enquirer or something. In which case, have fun with that.

Some fans and reporters have criticized Campbell for an inability to throw downfield consistently, but Campbell said that’s not his fault. According to Campbell, he couldn’t throw downfield in 2009 because he didn’t have time to pass.
“I don’t know how anyone can say something like that,” Campbell said. “Don’t you think I wanted to throw the ball downfield? By the time I looked up, I was getting hit. I’m certainly hoping we have an opportunity to make some big plays next season.”
——————————————————-
Well I guess that crosses Campbell off the list. His comments sound a lot like Russell talking about his offense.

Anyone who’s enlisted into the military since the declaration of the Iraq War is brainwashed. Yes. Either that or they support a war for oil and money. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt assuming they were brainwashed.

Plenty of great people join our military everyday, and are far from brain-washed unless you think people who love America have something wrong with them. I wouldn’t put that past some of you people.

Plunketthead….
Thanks again, for that link you posted over the weekend. (the dontevenreply one) I haven’t laughed that much in a long while.
February 18th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
Well, I’ve made my point about people who enlist into the military post Iraq War. I would also give them the benefit of the doubt that they need the money. But either they really know what that war was all about, and didn’t care, or they were misinformed and/or brainwashed into believing it was a just war.
And, as far as loving America goes, I’ve always wondered. What about America do they love? The people? The culture? The music? The cars? Do they love all people and all cultures? Or do they pick and choose? Do they love the mere land, as in the rocks, sand, mountains? Is that what they mean? Define America in clearer terms. Do they love the President, Barack Obama? Do they love the 70 million people who voted for him? They love America, right?

sorry, MR… generally i agree with you politically… but on this you are off… way off…
there are a lot of reasons for someone to join the military…
i joined ’cause my draft number was 80… was on academic probation… didn’t have transportation… and well… may as well just go ahead and “volunteer”…
it’s still like that…
can’t find a job…
judge says i ought to do it…
dad boots you out of the house…
failing in school…
dropped out of high school… no other options…
need money for college…
need a little combat time before i run for the presidency in 30 years… (and hoping republicans aren’t still wearing those stupid purple heart band-aids…
lots of reasons to “volunteer”…
February 18th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Florida, you were drafted. Has nothing to do with my point, as we haven’t had a draft since the Iraq War as far as I know.
And, I did mention the need for school money. But even people who join for that reason have to either not care that the war is about oil and money, or be brainwashed into thinking it’s really about giving Iraqis freedom.

Norco Bob, why would you rather the Raiders did better? What do the Raiders have to do with anything? You’re just supporting the players, making sure they get paid. Why the loyalty to any certain team? And, I understand you do attend A’s games, to take care of players, as well. But what about other NFL teams? 49ers? Denver and Seattle are feasible road trips. Are you attending as many 49er games as possible to take care of their players, too?

The BLUE RIDGE is the most capable command ship ever built, with an extremely sophisticated Command and Control system. The Global Command and Control System (Maritime) consists of numerous high powered computers distributed throughout the ship from which information and data from world-wide sources are entered into a central database. This single integrated database concentrates the availale information into a complete tactical picture of air, surface and subsurface contacts, enabling the Fleet Commander to quickly assess and concentrate on any situation which might arise. With a state of the art commercial and military satellite capability, coupled with the ability to track land, sea, and air movements throughout the region, BLUE RIDGE is among the most technologically advanced ships in the world.

you go to games for the heck of it? What is that supposed to mean? You just said a minute ago that you go to the games to support the players. But I find it funny you only go to Raider games, to support Raider players, as far as the NFL goes. With a couple of niner games per year. There are other ways to support NFL players, as well. Don’t you help them when you buy an official jersey with their name? I just don’t buy that you go to the games for the heck of it. Spending hundreds of dollars per game, when you include ticket, parking, gas, etc. No way you’re doing it for the heck of it.

Right now I like Trent Williams at right tackle and Mike Iupati at right guard.
Williams is a physical specimen, at least thats what Sooner O coord Kevin Wilson says. We’ll find out at the combine.
Played left tackle for Oklahoma, not the greatest feet. Not a ZBS guy so might need to take a year to work in. Same with Iupati.
Tends to hold and lacks consistent punch but is a mean muther scratcher, is surprisingly mobile and has an extremely high ceiling for growth potential.
Which means we’ll draft DBs rounds 1 and 2.

The CDC begins experimental hepatitis B vaccine trials in New York. Its ads for research subjects specifically ask for promiscuous homosexual men. Professor Wolf Szmuness of the Columbia University School of Public Health had made the vaccine’s infective serum from the pooled blood serum of hepatitis-infected homosexuals and then developed it in chimpanzees, the only animal susceptible to hepatitis B, leading to the theory that HIV originated in chimpanzees before being transferred over to humans via this vaccine. A few months after 1,083 homosexual men receive the vaccine, New York physicians begin noticing cases of Kaposi’s sarcoma, Mycoplasma penetrans and a new strain of herpes virus among New York’s homosexual community — diseases not usually seen among young, American men, but that would later be known as common opportunistic diseases associated with AIDS (Goliszek).

1953 CIA initiates Project MKULTRA. This is an eleven year research program designed to produce and test drugs and biological agents that would be used for mind control and behavior modification. Six of the subprojects involved testing the agents on unwitting human beings.
1955 The CIA, in an experiment to test its ability to infect human populations with biological agents, releases a bacteria withdrawn from the Army’s biological warfare arsenal over Tampa Bay, Fl.
1955 Army Chemical Corps continues LSD research, studying its potential use as a chemical incapacitating agent. More than 1,000 Americans participate in the tests, which continue until 1958.

The Tuskegee syphilis experiment[1] (also known as the Tuskegee syphilis study or Public Health Service syphilis study) was a clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 in Tuskegee, Alabama, by the U.S. Public Health Service. Investigators recruited 399 impoverished African-American sharecroppers with syphilis for research related to the natural progression of the untreated disease, in hopes of justifying treatment programs for blacks.[1]
The 40-year study was controversial for reasons related to ethical standards, primarily because researchers failed to treat patients appropriately after the 1940s validation of penicillin as an effective cure for the disease. Revelation of study failures led to major changes in U.S. law and regulation on the protection of participants in clinical studies. Now studies require informed consent, communication of diagnosis, and accurate reporting of test results.[2]
By 1947 penicillin had become the standard treatment for syphilis. Choices might have included treating all syphilitic subjects and closing the study, or splitting off a control group for testing with penicillin. Instead, the Tuskegee scientists continued the study, withholding penicillin and information about it from the patients. In addition, scientists prevented participants from accessing syphilis treatment programs available to others in the area. The study continued, under numerous supervisors, until 1972, when a leak to the press resulted in its termination. Victims included numerous men who died of syphilis, wives who contracted the disease, and children born with congenital syphilis.[3]
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, cited as “arguably the most infamous biomedical research study in U.S. history,”[4] led to the 1979 Belmont Report and the establishment of the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).[5] It also led to federal regulation requiring Institutional Review Boards for protection of human subjects in studies involving human subjects. The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) manages this responsibility within the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).[6]

Norco, so, you never did answer. Why do you go to games? If it’s to support the players, why don’t you go to other teams’ games, or at least buy jerseys of players from other teams?
February 18th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
Hey guys if you guys had to pick an Fantasy Football team for next year, which Raiders would you pick.
Raiders actually helped me win last year with Gradkowski and Chaz Schillens/Louis Murphy. I’m hoping that this next season that we’ll have thos guys become sleeper picks for success.
Also who knows about which time OTAs start? May?

February 18th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
Norco, ok, you’re not satan. Back to you going to games. You can get drunk and high at home. You spend hundreds of dollars just to sit in a seat and do something you can do at home for free? That’s got to be the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard of.

In his http://www.naturalnews.com/BBC.html>BBC documentary “Guinea Pig Kids” and BBC News article of the same name, reporter Jamie Doran reveals that children involved in the New York City foster care system were unwitting human subjects in experimental AIDS drug trials from 1988 to, in his belief, present times
(2005)
In response to the BBC documentary and article, the New York City Administration of Children’s Services sends out an Apr. 22 press release admitting that foster care children were used in experimental AIDS drug trials, but says that the last trial took place in 2001 and thus the trials are not continuing, as BBC reporter Jamie Doran claims.
The ACS gives the extent and statistics of the experimental drug trials, based on its own records, and contracts the Vera Institute of Justice to conduct “an independent review of ACS policy and practice regarding the enrollment of HIV-positive children in foster care in clinical drug trials during the late 1980s and 1990s”
In exchange for receiving $2 million from the American Chemical Society, EPA proposes the Children’s Health Environmental Exposure Research Study (CHEERS) to learn how children ranging from infancy to three years old ingest, inhale and absorb chemicals by exposing children from a poor, predominantly black area of Duval County, Fla., to these toxins.
Due to pressure from activist groups, negative media coverage and two Democratic senators, the EPA eventually decides to drop the study on Apr. 8, 2005

February 18th, 2010 at 5:53 pm
So, you do believe in the team then? you’re now going back to 2000-2002 to justify the losing, like any other kool aid drinker? So, you go to games, spend all of this money, hoping the Raiders are going to be good, right? Still, after 7 years of losing? And you like to lecture others in here about getting a life? Stop wiping your ass with your money and then lecture us.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:54 pm

February 18th, 2010 at 5:54 pm

February 18th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
You can go to a live sporting event at a high school, Norco. You can go watch a softball game at a park down the street. You just admitted it, by waxing poetic over the Gruden days. You’re hoping the Raiders will win. Yo’ure spending hundreds of dollars 8 Sundays per year, 10 counting pre season, hoping you’ll see a good Raider football team. After 7 years of not getting your wish, you’re still blowing money on them. And you lecture others about not having a life. Blowing money on the Raiders is not having a life, I’m sorry.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Lol,..unsure why your so mad MR,…relax babe,..smoke some pot.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
No, Norco, most people don’t waste hundreds of dollars at all. Tha’ts my point. You’re not rich. Yet you spend damn good money on a football team, hoping they’re going to turn the corner, and they never have…7 years and running. You’re a real genius.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:58 pm

February 18th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
I never said I was rich.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:00 pm
Why don’t you just wipe your ass with your money instead of going to Raider games, Norco? Because you think, every year, that it might be the year they start winning. Because you’re naive.

It really is the white flag for these guys. Kell, you’ve noticed it. Whenever you have them in a corner, “calm down. chill. you’re angry”. This guy comes in here everyday and acts like he lives this great frat boy life of getting smashed with friends and going to every sporting event in Northern California. That’s fine. But when he starts acting like he’s smarter than everyone else in here, considering how much money he spends on the Raiders? That’s where I draw the line. And his bouncing around from reason to reason for going to games was flat hilarious. Starts off saying he just goes to have fun, doesn’t care if the Raiders win. Then he says he does care if the Raiders win. Then he said he just likes to go to sporting events. Then he said he wants to take care of the players. All of these reasons just make him sound even stupider, because he doesn’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars 8 sundays per year to do these things. He’d seem a lot smarter if he just came out and said he’s a die hard fan, and doesn’t want to miss it when the Raiders finally turn it around. I mean, after an hour of badgering him, he finally admitted it. But the reason he doesn’t want to admit it is because by admitting he’s a believer, he’s also admitting he’s a naive douchebag, and that kind of clashes with his all knowing, man about world persona. Fake ass wannabe frat boy always talking about doing drugs and hanging out with celebrities, when in reality he’s just another dumb ass blow hard who thinks being a Raider fan makes him hard core.

February 18th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
The Real MaddenRaider,
Gotta diasagree with you about the troops being brainwashed for wanting to join the army. Recruiting usually spikes during a conflict, and it’s not because they want to give their ” BLOOD FOR OIL.”
It’s more complicated than that.
And the soldiers are usually far more informed about the real politics of war than civvies. They have more to lose. But all the geo-political garbage usually doesn’t matter that much to the grunts. They don’t fight for oil, or politics, or America, or you (sorry).
They fight for each other. Always have and always will.
The reasons why people enlist are as varied as the people themselves. The reasons why people fight is for their bud. No one ever pulled a trigger on someone for oil.
February 18th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
See the old crazy vietnam vet white guy beat up Priesst on that bus?
I knew right away that old looney had to be a Vietnam vet clearly suffering from some PTSD syndrome.
When I was living in san diego about 9 years ago, me and some friends frequently went to Calientes in TJ….to place bets.
My buddy was sitting down reading the paper, and the some old guy in front of him told him to stop bleepin hittin the paper against his head…when he wasn’t and or he would stab him in the throat cause he was in Vietnam.
Me and and three other friends just stared at him while my friend said sorry about that very calmly. The old crazy guy then looked at all four of us while we stared at him wondering what he was going to do next.
He just turned around and shut the heck up from then on. He would have been stupid to try something on us….especially in TJ…..but the guy was clearly mentally unstable. Sad….
February 18th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
DKnight007,
From my experience, I found that if people were messed up before they joined the army, it just made them worse. But if they were normal going in, then they could usually handle everything better.
Sounds like that guy would have been looney if he went to Viet Nam or not. There’s tons of homeless dudes who never had anything to do with the army.
Some guys go over the edge after action, but if they were happy campers before, then chances are they’ll be okay afterwards.
I don’t have any studies to prove that, but it’s just been my experience.
February 18th, 2010 at 11:09 pm
Some people can do little bit of drugs on the weekend and show up for work on monday. Others end up hooked on meth.
The army’s the same thing. Everyone handles it differently.

Can’t wait for the Tiger Woods apology.
He’ll be sitting at a table, give his little speech, then get up and walk away.
Then some woman will get up from underneath the table and re-freshen her lipstick.
February 19th, 2010 at 12:20 am
NorthernD,
As far as I’m concerned, there is no apology owed. What Tiger does in his personal life is none of our concern. Do you ask your boss or your subordinates what they do when they aren’t at work? No. What they do on their own time is their business. The same goes for athletes. What Tiger does OFF THE COURSE is none of my concern and I have no right to know.
For every guy who gets caught there are 50 who don’t. The ones who don’t get caught are only judged on their on-field/on-court/on-pitch performance. The same SHOULD be said for the ones who DO get caught in infidelity. If it’s outside of their profession, we don’t need to know, don’t need explanations, and shouldn’t get rationalizations.
February 19th, 2010 at 12:21 am

I respectfully disagree on one aspect, endorsements.
If he just wants to play golf, he can be whatever type of dude he wants to be. But if he is going to try to sell us an image that is false, and he is profitting on it, we as consumers have a right to call him on his BS.
And I would say in a team sport, being in the tabloids can be a distraction for other teammates and in the locker room. Since Tiger plays an individual sport than it doesn’t apply, but off the field distractions happen, and usually the team is worse off due to them.

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed.
On your right side is a sharp drop off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you.
Directly in front of you is a galloping kangaroo and your horse is unable to overtake it.
Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the Kangaroo.
What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?

Professional sports naturally selects the most virile, egocentric, driven, and hormonally-blessed individuals.
Evolution, as God created it, encourages sexual indulgence while simultaneously rewarding those individuals who can channel their urges within a stable loving family.
It is an eternal struggle, and as divinely inspired as love itself.

If you keep reading past the part you are quoting, it says FIRST remove the plank from your eye, THEN you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
So the point is don’t go after others UNTIL you have first REPENTED (or turned away) from your own sins.
Jesus never taught not to Judge, but not to Judge unrighteously (unfairly)
This principle is clearly stated in 1Cor. 6:2-3 Do you not know that the saints [the saved; Christians] will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
Not trying to go all Bible on you, but if you are going to use the Bible in your argument at least do so correctly.

Bobby,
the Raiders will only tag him if he refuses a long-term deal at fair market value. He’s past 30 years old and only had 4 sacks last year. Plus he didn’t improve our run defense hardly AT ALL. He shouldn’t be asking to be the NFL’s highest paid defensive player. If he is, then I fully expect him to be tagged. 2011 might be a lockout year anyways …

A joke for Tiger:
My girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. My parents helped us in every way, my friends encouraged me, and my girlfriend? She was a dream! There was only one thing bothering me, very much indeed, and that one thing was her younger sister. My prospective sister-in-law was twenty years of age, wore tight mini skirts and low cut blouses. She would regularly bend down when near me and I got many a pleasant view of her underwear. It had to be deliberate. She never did it when she was near anyone else.
One day little sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived. She whispered to me that soon I was to be married, and she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn’t overcome and didn’t really want to overcome. She told me that she wanted to make love to me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister. I was in total shock and couldn’t say a word. She said, “I’m going upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want to go ahead with it just come up and get me.” I was stunned. I was frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. When she reached the top she pulled down her panties and threw them down the stairs at me. I stood there for a moment, then turned and went straight to the front door. I opened the door and stepped out of the house. I walked straight towards my car. My future father-in-law was standing outside. With tears in his eyes he hugged me and said, “We are very happy that you have passed our little test. We couldn’t ask for a better man for our daughter. Welcome to the family”.
The moral of this story is:
Always keep your condoms in your car.

We have now entered into a post-nuptial agreement that allows me to take full advantage of the power I have over women and my wife will remain financially secure, which is what most women care about anyhow. Frankly, this is none of your business, so back off and let me do my job.
Have a nice day.”

Luke 6:37 – Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
To me, the meaning is clear. In serious matters (not sports), I try not to judge.
…………
You are clearly confusing the condemnation of a person with the condemnation of a person’s actions.
We are to judge actions, but we must also give mercy to the person.
I can Judge that murder is wrong (that is why I teach that to my children, because I weighed it and found it lacking) without passing judgment on the murderer(that is why I teach my children forgiveness and mercy).
Again, this passage of Luke (who was not an eyewitness, but only wrote what he heard from others) simply states the same principle from Matthew.
If we turn away from sin, then we can help a brother turn away from sin. However, sin must be recognized as sin.
Going through life saying, “to each his own” is not taught by Jesus or the Bible.
According to the Bible anyway.

Raider O: I’d like to see Huff at nickel corner on occassion too. keep 3 safeties on the field at the same time. why not? as long as at least 2 of them had cover skills we should be ok …
a 3rd for Cromartie? that would be a steal IMO. SD is probably asking for a 1st rounder or a starting calibur RB (Tashard Choice’s name has been mentioned)
SD wouldn’t trade a former Pro Bowler to Al unless he was willing to deal a king’s ransom in return
February 19th, 2010 at 9:12 am
Any case anyone missed it:
QB Bruce Gradkowski (RFA): Why? Because his teammates believe in him and it’s important to have the guy who took the job away from JaMarcus Russell around to push Russell this season. If Gradkowski is allowed to walk, and Russell gets a free pass, the Raiders learned nothing last year.

February 19th, 2010 at 9:17 am
Lionel Washington did a good job with the safeties last year. Huff & Branch both shined! even Mike Mitchell showed up to make a few plays …
Nnamdi & CJ were solid.
Need better production from the front seven though. then these cats will REALLY shine IMO.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:18 am
What about Bush and a 4th for him? I don’t want to trade Bush, its not hard to find a RB, but to get a 6′3 CB with speed next to Nnamdi Is a great move.
What do you think?
February 19th, 2010 at 9:21 am
I dont need help with that Luci,…I do both, daily.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:22 am
I’m not sold on CJ. He can tackle, has good hands, but he gives a lot too.
Teams will pick on the other Guy (other than Nnamdi), so we need a guy who can make more plays. I think Cromartie can be that player.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:26 am
O: Cromartie reminds me a lot of DeAngelo Hall the past 2 seasons …
gambles a ton and often gets burned deep as a result. plus he’s got a little baggage
I’d spend a 3rd on him, but I don’t think I’d package Mike Bush in ANY trade to SD!
February 19th, 2010 at 9:26 am
Raider O
We need better DT’s so we can get pressure with our front 4 and we need a legitimate MLB and that would improve the play of CJ and the safety’s…..our secondary is asked to cover their receivers too long.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:27 am
I like Walter Thurmond from Oregon. He is 6′1, has speed, can cover, and has great hands. He was injured at the beg of the season, so he will fall if he can’t preform at the combine.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:29 am

I agree with you guys, but he is 6′3 with amazing speed.
Don’t trade Bush, but I’ll trade a 3rd for him. Or a 3rd & 5th.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:33 am
Raiders were I think 11th in the league in sacks, and either 1st or 2nd in the entire NFL for sack % of pass attempts.
We get pressure on the QB, you could always use more I agree, but Routt needs to not hold and give up so many yards. Upgrade Routt and get a tad more pressure on the QB and we can have a top-flight pass defense.
But that doesn’t do you any good when you score 13 points a game.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:35 am
Clancy’s out.
Ditched us to be DC at Berkley.
Bastard.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:37 am
LA,..weve discussed that already.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:39 am
Enjoy your lunch.
We need to move Seymour inside, draft a DE & a DT.
O Mock Draft 5.5:
1- LB McClain ( will play ILB)
2- RT T Williams if available, or Kyle Calloway.
3- DT Cam Thomas
3- DE Austen Lane 6′6, 4.6 speed, and 34″ arms.
4- LB Micah Johnson ( will play SLB)
5- CB Walter Thurmond 10 INTs in 2 years before his injury.
5- KR/PR Leroy Vann 11 TDs returns in 2 years, or J Ford if available
7- Best Blocking FB that’s available.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:40 am
Sorry, Bob. Late on that one. You know that chronic will get you.
I guess it’s not a big loss, but I was looking at it like an upgrade there. The DBs missed their assignments too often last year and in years past.
A beastly front 7 could hide that.
Al should toss his hat in the ring for Dansby. Trade up and draft Suh. Al has attempted to trade up for LTs and DTs before. No reason he couldn’t do so this year.
Unless he wants to turn Eric Berry into the next shutdown Raider CB.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:44 am
O
I like Seymour’s versatility. Another piece on that DLine and he could move around quite a bit depending on the down and distance.
I like the 3-4 hybrid looks that Marshall used last season.
Waufle I think is a strictly 4-3 guy, so probably less of that, but an upgrade at DT and we’re in business.
What you gents think about the upcoming offseason?
A) Al turns it around with brilliant FA and draft.
B) Al completely tanks both
C) Al signs an overpriced FA who makes little impact, drafts a workout warrior in 1st and 2nd, then drafts gems in the later rounds that will excell with other teams 3-4 seasons from now.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:49 am
Our Defense will be a strong unit, and we can add the best G & C in FA.
-We cut WR Walker & DT Warren, and use that 11 Mil in salary on the new FA G & C.
-We also should sign a cheap vet WR who can still play.
Defense:
RDE: Austen Lane/ T Scott
DT: Seymour/ TK
DT: Cam Thomas/ TK
LDE: Ellis/ Matt S
WLB: T H/ T Scott
ILB: McClain/ Micah Johnson
SLB: Micah Johnson/ Norris
CB: Nnamdi/ Walter Thurmond
CB: CJ/ Huff
FS: Huff/ Branch
SS: Branch/ MM
Offense:
LT: Mario
LG: Gallery
C: FA/ Satele
RG: FA/ Walker
RT: T Williams or Kyle Calloway
Word!
February 19th, 2010 at 9:54 am
Also cut cooper who makes 5 mil/ year. Spend that money with the savings from WR Walker & DT Warren, and we should be able to sign the best 3 OL FAs. Sign a OT, OG, And C!
February 19th, 2010 at 9:58 am
After all the improvements, if JR & DMC don’t improve, then I will look for a new QB and RB.
February 19th, 2010 at 10:05 am
—”Raiders defensive backs coach Clancy Pendergast has reportedly left the team to accept the defensive coordinator job at Cal-Berkley. Pendergast, the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator last season, had just joined the Raiders two weeks ago. On Jeff Tedford’s staff at Cal he will replace Bob Gregory, who left for a job at Boise State”—
LOL, what a joke…
February 19th, 2010 at 10:09 am
Hey BSJ, are you going to apply to win the signed McFadden jersey on the facebook link above?
February 19th, 2010 at 10:16 am
Maybe we can give the job of coaching the DB’s back to Hanson.
February 19th, 2010 at 10:19 am
I wonder if Rod Woodson would coach the DB’s? I know he lives in the Bay.
February 19th, 2010 at 10:34 am
LMAO Vegas or better yet we could find out which DB coach in the league runs the fastest 40 time and hire him!

if there is 1 guy I would give Willie Brown’s old job to, it’d be Rod Woodson
not sure he’s ready to leave that cushy job at the NFL Network though?
February 19th, 2010 at 10:38 am
I don’t know if this is old news, because I haven’t read all the comments, but I saw a headline on tv yesterday that said Seymore has been tagged.

we all laugh at that Vegas (I even did) , but Al Davis is a mystery. thinks chemistry on the roster or even staff is overrated
that move wouldn’t surprise me one bit!
…but it would upset me and probably trigger my gag reflex

Seymour will get franchise tag – 22 hours ago
The franchise tag for defensive ends is $12.398 million. The deadline for teams to use their franchise tags on prospective free agents is next Thursday.
February 19th, 2010 at 10:42 am
come back Willie
February 19th, 2010 at 10:44 am
if Seymour and the Raiders can’t come to terms on a long-term deal within the next 6 days he’ll get tagged…
that shouldn’t surprise any of us. you all knew we weren’t giving up next year’s 1st rounder to keep Dick Seymour for only 1 season!
February 19th, 2010 at 10:46 am
an LA to TheBay sighting?
where u been bro?
how long has it been since your last log in? 6 months or better?
been busy or banned?
February 19th, 2010 at 10:49 am
don’t you guys think we should just re-sign Terdell Sands, William Joseph & Fred Wakefield?
that would solve the run defense issues and allow us to draft a DB in Round 1 …
February 19th, 2010 at 10:52 am
re-sign Kwame Harris, Khalif Barnes & Cornell Green too. perfect fit for Cable’s zbs.
that would solve our pass protection issues and allow us to draft a WR in Round 2 …
February 19th, 2010 at 10:56 am
Bring back Francis!! (Solves WR and ST)
LMAO

according to Jhill we’re going to win the division and finish 11-5 so that’ll be fine. keep Nick Miller on the shelf. we can use him in the playoffs
