Hey O, Thurmond’s gonna run the 40 soon. What ya think?
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:55 am
I’m 1st!
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:56 am
no!!!!
4.51
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:56 am
4th?
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:57 am
Who are they targeting in free agency?
***
Jerry Mac knows the answer to this question? doubtful.
players don’t even become free agents until friday!

March 2nd, 2010 at 9:00 am
RR,
Did you read my post about Kirk.
I wanted to see what he can do behind a good DL the last 3-4 years, but at this point I want a new DT & MLB, and you know how I feel about Spoon.
SPOON!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:04 am
O: you said you wanted to be like Mike.
our MIKE is Capt Kirk … just askin’
so if KM slides to strong side, who starts at weak side? Scott or Howard? or your boy Spoon?
—
would you draft Spoon 8th overall or trade back up into the lower 1st round and grab him?
does Spoon solve the MLB issue or is he better suited for OLB (like you say Kirk is) ???
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:05 am
Never mind. Thurmond not running today. Just saw his name on the list & than they skipped him! Oh well, have to wait for his pro day I guess. Must not be completely healed.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:05 am
RaiderO I was wrng about Spoon I think he can definitely play MLB if you watch his hips and explosion he is something else he is a player to be sure. I liked him before but I love he kid now.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:07 am
Think Spoon should be able to play the mike position. When asked about having the “mike” in his helmet calling plays, said he did it at MS.
Don’t know about at #8 though.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:09 am
I would draft Taylor Mays and make him a HB with that kind of explosion he would be awesome. His father was a very good HB. He would be a great one.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:11 am
McShay said that even if the Rams draft Bradford #1 , Suh & McCoy will be selected #2 and #3
Suh = Lions
McCoy = Bucs
I can see that. Chris Hovan is 32 years old and Ryan Sims is a 1st round bust like William Joseph.
Dre Moore & Roy Miller were drafted in rounds 3 and 4 last year, but they wouldn’t have HALF the impact McCoy would. They would probably see him as the second coming of Warren Sapp (without the big mouth)
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:12 am
I would reach for Spoon!
I think the kid is a football player, loves the game, and he is a leader. He is 6′1 240, and runs a 4.5.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:15 am
Raider O,
I have to agree with everything you’ve been saying now he is special. His explosion and instincts are top shelf. His ability to read and react and diagnose is special he plays with a lot of fire and can cover which is so rare at that position. Spoon is one bad dude……….period
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:16 am
We need LB help, but we also need a DT.
I really like Lamarr Houston in the 2nd. 6′3 305, and he runs a 4.85! He is a Raider!
BHP,
He can play all 3 LB positions, he is a Football & an athlete. Amazing Talent.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:16 am
would you guys trade Mike Bush to SD in exchange for Cromartie and the dolts 1st rounder?
sounds crazy I know. just a thought
could probably get Spikes, Spoon or Pouncey with SD’s selection. Maybe even Williams or Price!
that would free up Cable to draft a Cadillac at #8
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:18 am

sounds like Kirk Morrison 2.0 !!!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:25 am
can you imagine walking away from the draft with OT A.Davis, NT D.Williams & C M.Pouncey as your first 3 picks?
SOLID!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:27 am
Al Davis will probably draft Mays or Dunlap at #8
then the fastest WR & CB in Rounds 2 and 3
then Cable will tote the company line and call it the draft of the decade!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:27 am
I like that trade a lot!
RR,
He is the same size as Kirk, but he can add weight. He was close to 250 a few month back according to NFLdraftcountdown, he is Faster than Kirk, and he has more Talent. He is not Spikes or Micah Johnson, but he plays man better and he plays sideline to sideline.
Team him up with Lamarr Houston in the 2nd, and that will improve our Run Defense for the next decade.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:29 am
SPOON!!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:32 am
Raider O: did you ever watch that cartoon called ‘The Tick’ ???
he was this huge blue wannabe superhero with an out of shape dude dressed as a moth for a sidekick. LOL
always used to say “SPOON!”
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:34 am
Michael Bush is worth Cromartie and a 1st round pick?
Rockstar, did you hit your head while I was gone?
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:35 am
Spoon has twice the instincts of Kirk and is much more aggressive. Kirk is a very good ILB he’s just not a true MLB he doesn’t have that mentality. He can do the job but rarely takes his game to another level.
Spoon’s game is already at hat level……period
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:35 am
MWfan,
Is Thurmond still injured? He didn’t run a 40.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:37 am
I know RR. I loved that show.lol
SPOON!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:38 am
Dakota: Al Davis asked for two 1st rounders when Jerry Porter was on the trade block a few years back.
for all we know he could be doing the same thing with Bush. SD is clearly trying to move Cromartie to dump his salary and baggage on somebody else. He’s played like DeAngelo Hall the past 2 seasons!
Spiller & Matthews might be off the board when SD is on the clock … Best has injury concerns
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:41 am
Kirk is slow, but he is still a good player. He is an Aztec! LOL
Go Aztecs!!
SPOON!
Legalize it!
Later Gents. I have to go study Econ.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:41 am
Priest: if Kirk Morrison wasn’t doing a great job at MLB, why would Al Davis start him there for the past 4 seasons?
Kirk is a player. PERIOD. get a real NT!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:42 am
Two first rounders for Porter? LMAO Maybe he will ask for a Ricky Williams type package for Fargas too!
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:43 am
Taylor Mays’s dad was an outstanding HB at Washington St. U and a great HB for the Seahawks but injuries plagued him. I believe Taylor could play that position instinctively and in time excel but his heart has to be in it. I think Anthony Dorsett ran from his natural position and was a very average pro as a result. I think Taylor is doing the same thing. Anthny Dorsett wuld’ve been a much better player at HB I feel the same way about Taylor Mays.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:47 am
Priest: Anthony Dorsett was a better player than you are blogger …

March 2nd, 2010 at 10:22 am
A former NFL player told me the issue with Russell is more than being a player, it’s manhood. It takes a certain kind of maturity and guts and character to play quarterback in the NFL, and in this sense, Russell is not a man.

March 2nd, 2010 at 10:26 am
Yeah….yeah….yeah!
I think we can scratch Joe Haden and Taylor Mays off the Raider draft board with the #8 pick hopefully!
Mays ran a 4.45 (way slower than all the hype saying he would run a 4.24 40) and Joe Haden ran a way slower than expected 4.57??
This team doesn’t need to a pick a CB or Safety that high at #8 and it’s not even close.
This SHOULD confirm that Mays and Haden should not and will not be picked at #8…..thank god!
Then again…we are talking about the old looney man Al here….Ugh…
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:27 am
Funny, when Lowell Cohn was shilling for Eddie DeBartolo at the Chronicle, his words meant nothing to the media hating Raider Nation.
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:29 am
If the old man is gonna “reach” at #8, then they need to pick a freakin BEAST OF A FOOTBALL PLAYER, like Suh, Okung, A Davis, Graham and Weatherspoon
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:29 am
Damn it, on profootball talk is sayin Mays ran a 4.24 and everyone is impress and can work with him. WTF!!!!
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:29 am
Funny, when Lowell Cohn was shilling for Eddie DeBartolo at the Chronicle, his words meant nothing to the media hating Raider Nation.
Just like budget deficits meant noting when George Bush was president, eh Vegas?

“For us right now probably working a little bit on the line of scrimmage and the secondary and some things like that.” (Cable)
====================================================
Mark my words……..
A DB will be selected in the first two rounds.
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:30 am
I never even heard of Lowell Cohn.
Whoever he is, he probably isn’t getting any media credentials anytime soon in Alameda.
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:32 am
I say he flops. I say he’s out of the league within two seasons.
***
I agree with Lowell Cohn here. a guy that doesn’t “get it” or “want it” as his coaches & teammates suggest isn’t coachable imo.
Defilipo & Hackett couldn’t do it. Kiffin, Knapp, Tollner & Cable couldn’t do it. Davis himself couldn’t do it. who’s next? Hue Jackson
JR has struck out with 6 or 7 coaches the past 3 years. what does Hue have to offer that these other guys didn’t? and I don’t want to hear anything about race!

^^^^^^^^^
Doubt it….since he ran a slow 4.57 40 time. If he ran a fast 4.25-4.35, then I would be worried.
I don’t think it happens now with that slow 40 time. It at least it better NOT happen. Heck even if he did run a 4.25-4.35 40, I still didn’t want the old man to pick him.
Haden is not gonna be all that in the NFL anyway….watch. Serviceable nickel DB’s can be found in rounds 5 or 6 to compete IF necessary.
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:35 am

I think we still need a replacement for CJ. Preferebly in the later rounds or free agency.
***
CJ had 58 tackles, 3 INT’s and 18 passes defensed
the year before that he had 31 tackles, 3 INT’s and 12 passes defensed (replacing D-Hall)
CJ isn’t the problem. Nnamdi should be shadowing the other team’s #1 WR. Even still, most of the TD passes allowed came against Routt, Branch, Mitchell or a LB …
get a real NT! if teams can’t run the ball they’ll have to play honest and we’ll have more of a pass rush as a result
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:51 am
Why are you disappointed in America?
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:52 am

March 2nd, 2010 at 10:53 am
What’s the deal with Obama’s birth certificate ?
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:53 am
Here is the way it SHOULD happen on draft day for Raiders but won’t:
1. OT Davis, OT Williams or RDE Graham
2. DT Houston or LB Spoon (Spoon won’t be there though) or an OT like Saffold or Brown
3. LB Micah Johnson
3. QB Lefevour or O-Line or KR specialist
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:54 am

thats exactly my point. if you’re going to keep a guy on one side of the field, the other team would be stupid not to have thier #2 or #3 WR matched up with N21. example of matchups vs. Dungver
Johnson – Marshall
Routt – Royal
Asomugha – Stokley
looks like a waste of $15-25 million per season imo. N21 isn’t even being challenged

what the hell is wrong with u? most of the td’s came against branch routt, and MITCHELL? why do u keep saying this? he gave up one td in the redskins game. i’ve told u that 100 times. ive asked you to back up ur statement by posting a stat of how many times mitchell was thrown at, for how many yards. i’ll bet you, it’s less than 10. u know why? the guy blitzed most of the time and wasn’t asked to cover much. why can’t u understand this. watch the freaking games dude. again for the 50th time, find me ONE, UNO, reception of significance that mitchell gave up other than the td vs redskins. let me guess the two from the ravens game that netted 15 yrs combined. just asking u for one reception to back up ur point. we both know u cant find it, because it does not exist

u r absolutely right. on two of the catches it was more to do with not knowing responsibilities rather than the lack of ability to cover. twice in the balti game he started to blitz and was late getting the back out of the back field. rockstar insists this guy gave up huge play after huge play. td after td. not true. the guy was mainly a blitzer. furthermore he has shown me more as a rookie than gibson ever did. he gave up one td in the washington game, and if u look at the replay, nnamdi was behind mm in the endzone in a zone i guess. just before the snap of the ball nnamdi took off towards middle of the field and mm let the guy go probably thinking aso was there. again a rookie mistake. who knows if nnamdi was supposed to leave that area. all can do is speculate. but in no way did this guy allow any reception that had an impact on any game

I said that MM34 stinks in pass coverage and i’m sticking with that until he proves otherwise
my opinion, not yours. leave it alone unless you got something concrete to disprove my comment
repeatedly asking for plays in which he got beat doesn’t make a solid argument for him being solid in pass d

***
not a bad idea if this kid has changed his off-the-field issues. if he’s still not acting like a pro, let some other team babysit him 24/7.
a nickel CB & return man = definate need on this team
March 2nd, 2010 at 11:47 am
The Washington TD was a pretty sweet toss by Campbell. I would let MM more off the hook for that if he wasn’t so far away from it, but if he had tight coverage it still would have been a TD probably.
My biggest concern with Mitchell in coverage isn’t the amount of catches he gave up but how bad he looked when he gave up the few. He is a rookie, so some of that is to be expected, and I am sure he will improve upon it moving forward.
He is a hybrid downhill type. Probably not an everydown SS, and certainly not a FS. But used properly, he can be very effective, and I expect him to be among the league leaders in sacks for a DB next year.

ur good with links and stats and all that stuff. can u find out how many times mitchell was thrown at? yrs also. i’ve tried, but maybe im looking in the wrong place. i enjoy rrs’s posts, but he is completely mislead when it comes to mike mitchell. i just dont get it. obviously he missed a couple assignments, and whiffed on big ben twice, but the guy had a couple sacks, and im guessing at least 7-10 hurries. to compare this guy to derrick gibson is absurd. gibson was good in college, in the nfl he could not tackle and was always getting burned. the gb game when favre’s pops passed, gibson was beaten all game long.
March 2nd, 2010 at 11:48 am
No to Pacman. Cable seemed pretty happy that he got rid of the “knuckleheads” and the last thing we need is this clown around.

you admit he’s not a great cover man, but AD loves man2man defense. just line up and dominate the guy you’re matched up with. a safety that hits hard, but can’t cover his mouth = Gibson or Roy Williams
March 2nd, 2010 at 11:51 am
The only good thing from Gibson was when he knocked McAffery out of the game (broken leg?? I can’t remember) and the crowd was chanting “RAAAIIDDEERRRRRRRRRRSS” while he was getting carted off.
But I think in my prime I would have been a tough cover for Gibson. ZERO Ball skills. He always seemed close to the play, but never made THE PLAY.

A little harsh on Gibson, don’t you think? I remember him in the “giant” corner role against Gonzalez and he did a pretty good job. Had a few notable hits. It helps that the other safety in the 1st round that year, Archuleta, wan’t a whole lot better.

Vegas, Cable should get rid of the knucklehead who punched an assistant coach during training camp last year, creating a huge distraction when the team should have been focused on what everyone knew would be a season defining opening game against a division rival. Oh, wait, that’s right, it was him.

i agree with u about the sacks. this guy seems to know exactly when to turn the jets on and pressure the qb. this guy will no doubt be asked to blitz a lot and come in on certain run packages. i forget if it was the balti or cle game, but mm and huff blitzed from each side and met at the qb. that was a thing of beauty. again, im not foolish enough to say this guy is going to be an all pro, however, i feel he’ll impact games in a far greater way than gibson ever did. i don’t know what else to say. guess me and rrs will have to agree to disagree

Josh Taves was a horrible 2 technique. But his ability to fight weakside guards pulling on trap plays was superior to other strong side defensive ends, especially in short yard situations on grass, in weather 50 degrees or lower, and with grass blades no longer than one inch.

that is not a foolish statement imo.
did Nnamdi, CJ or Huff get beat often for TD’s ? no.
these guys are all solid in pass coverage. you’re either in this group or the other group
the only plays you can remember him making were while he was on the field in a blitz package (not in coverage). yet you seem to remember 4 or 5 plays made against him in the limited time he was actually asked to cover somebody

AFter correctly predicting 5 wins this year, remember when you made fun of me for being this huge “optimist” but I couldn’t get off my “Vegas” persona and couldn’t predict more wins, I will drop some more knowledge on you.
If Bruce starts week 1, no matter what we win 9 games.
If Jamarcus starts week 1, no matter what, we don’t win more than 6 games.

Seymour, I don’t know if I would call any of Gruden’s draft picks in Tampa great, but some of them were good enough to help his team win two division titles, unlike Al Davis’s hand picked talents, who’ve yet to muster up 6 wins in a season since 2003.

If Gruden’s replacement in Tampa had won 12 games this year, you guys would be using that as evidence of how bad Gruden was. So I think it’s noteworthy how far they sunk after Gruden left. I think it speaks to Gruden’s motivational skills, at the very least. Gruden is not great, but he’s a good coach and that team misses him. When Al Davis leave the Raiders, however, they’re going to improve by default. Guaranteed the first season after Al is gone the RAiders improve by at least 3 wins.

Gruden didn’t stand a chance at building a team in Tampa after they gave up two first round picks and two second round picks to trade for him. The only thing more amazing than the fact that Gruden won a division title after most of the McKay team was gone and without those picks was the fact that the Raiders somehow came away with nothing for those four picks.

Mitchell was NOT “abused” in coverage. I can think of 2 plays where he MAY have been a step late oneof the for a TD but it seemed more like a blown coverage than a blatant torching of Mitchell.
Chris Johnson was the guy who got torched alot last year.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Seymour, Gruden won the division title in ‘07 with Dungy’s guys? Barber and Brooks were the only players on that starting lineup from the Dungy era. I’ll agree Gruden took Dungy’s team to the Super Bowl in ‘02. That’s obvious. Just as Callahan took Gruden’s team. But the ‘07 Bucs, Dungy’s team? Ridiculous. Face it, Gruden turned the Bucs after dismantling Dungy’s team faster than Davis turned the Raiders around after dismantling Gruden’s team. Heck, the Raiders are still yet to turn it around. 7 straight years of losing 11 or more games. The Raiders haven’t even won 3 games straight since the Super Bowl year.

March 2nd, 2010 at 1:17 pm
Seymour Bush, you do know that the Bucs won their division in ‘07, right? What do you mean when you say Gruden dismantled Dungys’ team and “drove it into the ground”? A division title is driving a team into the ground? Do won/loss records and division standings mean anything to you? Oh, of course not. You’re a Raider fan.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Hell I even invited Shaq. I figured with his injured thumb he should have some time on his hands…
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Gruden won the division in ‘05 as well. All of those years Dungy was there, and McKay was GM, they’d go like 9-7 year after year and lose in the playoffs. Seems to me Gruden had them just about at that same status, albeit a little worse, considering Gruden didn’t win consistently year after year. But he did win two division titles well after Dungy’s team was “dismantled”, as you put it. Explain to me just what you mean by driving a team into the ground. Would the Raiders by chance be driven into the ground? Do you want to know what Tampa Bay’s record has been in the Gruden era vs. what Al Davis’s has been in Oakland since Gruden left? Let me know if you want me to pull up those numbers.

And, the billboard did do a lot of damage to Al Davis. It served to legitimize the want of Al Davis leaving. No doubt his ticket sales are going to take a hit. It’s cool to hate Al Davis, now. That’s never good. Ask anyone who works with the team, who spends countless hours trying to project the opposite image of Al Davis, that he is great, and being a die hard fan is cool. The billboard is a direct affront to that marketing strategy. The billboard was a success. Al’s going to start seeing empty stadiums.

Why do you think companies flip whenever something is obstructing their advertisement? Image is EVERYTHING. Are you going to say that Al Davis wouldn’t rather there wasn’t a big sign along the freeway that said he sucks? If had a choice between the two? Al is a business man. And no doubt the Raiders are scrambling for strategies to offset the message on that billboard. And, more billboards are coming. Do you realize they gave that kid a discount? Al Davis doesn’t have a lot of friends these days.

I wasn’t impressed with East Bay Sick. You know who’s tight? Skillz. He’s from Virginia. He does those year “rap up” songs. His new album “million dollar backpack” is tight. He sounds like Jay Z but raps more like Ice Cube. He’s like a Jay Z with tight beats and better lyrics. What Jay Z could have been had he not sold out.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 pm
I never said no billboard would equal sellouts. I said that the billboard will hurt ticket sales. I don’t see how that point by default makes the point that if there was no billboard the games would sell out. It’s your logic that makes no sense. It’s a matter of a billboard contributing to an anti Al Davis message that is sweeping the Raider Nation, and it can’t bode well for ticket sales.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Agreed. The Billboard served to legitimize the notion that Al Davis, as Boss of All Things Raider, is responsible for actual results.

Kell, these die hards like Bo and Seymour are in denial. Look how much the Raiders spend on image, advertising, those goofy commercials that show the dentist, the fireman, etc. wearing a Raiders shirt under their uniform, to give the impression that smart, responsible people are Raider fans. ha ha! How sad is that? Rather than just embrace the outlaw image that gave them the fan base they still have, they’re instead trying to burn the stick at both ends and get normal fans, too? Newsflash, Al: Normal fans want to see wins, or they’re not going to bother. Anyhow, it’s all about marketing. The Raiders know that as well as anyone. That’s why it’s hilarious when die hard fans who are always defending the organization try to pretend they’re not threatened by that billboard. They know they are.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Kell, I’ve been saying for years that Oakland fans have had it with Al. Northern Cali in general. We hate Al Davis up here. I think it’s because we have the niners up here too and the way N. California Raider fans feel is that if we’re not making the niners look bad, then it doesn’t mean anything. We have to be better than the 49ers. LA fans don’t have that rivalry. The Chargers, but the Chargers have never won a Super Bowl. then you have Raider fans in places like Nebraska, Florida…Vegas. They’re not around all of these niner fans. They don’t know what it’s like to listen to their bragging. Raider fans up here need the Raiders to win, to show up snot nosed San Fran and niner fans, or they’re useless.

Bo, let’s pretend you’re a Raiders ad exec. Where your entire business is making the Raiders look like the coolest thing since Fonzi. March 2nd, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Kell, the blackouts are the least of the Raiders’ problems. They’re a symptom of a more serious disease: Al Davis. If the team wins, people will show up. Remember those sold out games back when Gruden was here, and when the prices were sky high?

Really not the hard to understand.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:32 pm
A state being labeled as liberal by its right wing critics should probably still have a few less hate groups, Vegas.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:33 pm
Plus, Vegas, your point attempts to equate political extremism, particularly racism, with populism. I do find that hard to understand, because it’s absurd.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:36 pm
I’m not aware of any groups that hate Al Davis, twocents. I’m not certain of the SPLC’s criteria for defining hate groups, but I’m guessing a group has to have made some physical threat to any group of people at some point. I don’t know of any groups that have threatened Al Davis. Your idea that critics of Al Davis qualify as a “hate group” as defined by civil libertarians is melodramatic at best.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:41 pm
Well Orange County is typically one of the most conservative counties in the country, so I am sure there is plenty in that area.
And while you find it “hard to understand” that populism has something to do with statistical measures of extremism, the fact that the 2nd biggest state has the second most groups, directly correalates the two.
Let me guess, Texas has the most groups right? And let me guess, RI and Deleware have the least??
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:45 pm
I love the whole right-wing extremism angle these days.
They tried to play that up after a courthouse shooting out here. Rumors were running wild of this guy who was fed up with his country and took to shooting the courthouse. His name was Sammie Lee, he had to be a right-wing extremist right?? News stations were running with the sensational story.
Turns out he was a black guy, who was suing the state because Nevada wouldn’t give me the same amount of welfare as California would.
It went from a national story to no story overnight.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Jeez MR, it was an attempt at humor.
However, it seems that you are implying that hate only exist on the right side of your fictitious spectrum.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:48 pm
I guess a left-wing terroist, who killed two people, wasn’t newsworthy.
March 2nd, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Vegas, I was never aware of “Sammie Lee” being a national story, either. Don’t think it was that big of a story either way, even when they thought he was a right winger. But if you’re saying the media was making a big deal out of a guy flying a plain into a building being a right winger, should they not? Considering their anger and threats, and the fact that they are now putting it into action? I think it deserves attention. Bottom line is that right wing domestic terrorism is a bigger threat than left wing domestic terrorism today. You guys are still living in the Bush era. Perhaps it’s by choice.

And all those guys were Pre-Gruden and all the aged veterans Gruden went out and got did nothing and he developed no one. Sounds an awful lot like here. Funny how Jon Gruden doesn’t have 10 offers to coach in the NFL. There’s a reason for that. (See Raiders, Oakland) and Tampon Bay (2009-present). He left both in shambles.
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:00 pm
You know Al is dying to figure out a way to draft Taylor Mays right now. But I can’t see him adding another safety into the mix.
The only viable option I can see — unless Al says what the hell and picks another safety anyway — is to pop Mays in at linebacker. He obviously has the size and more than enough speed for the position. Not sure if he plays physically enough or not though. Even if you can deliver hits in the secondary it’s not the same as shedding blocks of 300+ pound linemen and 250 pound FBs charging at you play, after play, after play.
But if we stick with the best athlete available philosophy I think we go with either Mays or Bruce Campbell. Can’t say I’d be a fan of either pick.

Alstott and Brian Kelly? Alstott had his neck injury and didn’t play in ‘07. Kelly hardly played in ‘07, as well. And, I already mentioned Brooks and Barber. Two players. Brooks and Barber. That’s all that was left of Dungy’s team, and you’re saying those two alone carried the ‘07 Bucs to the division title? Never mind Garcia (pro bowl), Graham, and Galloway?

KoolKell,
Ever hear of SHAC? From wikipedia:
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors U.S. domestic extremism, has described SHAC’s modus operandi as “frankly terroristic tactics similar to those of anti-abortion extremists.”[3] The campaign has used tactics ranging from non-violent protest to the alleged firebombing of houses owned by executives associated with HLS clients and investors, and several SHAC activists have been convicted for their role in the campaign. In May 2005, an official with the FBI’s counterterrorism division included SHAC in a list of what he called special-interest extremist movements that he said are the “most serious domestic terrorism threats” in the U.S.[8][9] In 2009, a number of senior members of SHAC, including Avery, James and Dellemagne, were jailed for between four and eleven years on conspiracy to blackmail charges.[10]

Correct in thought; horrible in the implementation. You don’t throw all your hopes into a high first round pick at the flash-and-dash position of receiver who doesn’t even grade out among the top four at his position. Now, if we pick up the Davis kid and perhaps pick up a free agent O-lineman as well, fix up that offensive line, then perhaps we can start to stretch the field a little — start to work in DHB a little more. Perhaps by the time the season starts, Johnnie Lee will have shed all his nightmares too (one can only hope!)

In May 2006, an anonymous group said it would be writing to every one of GlaxoSmithKline’s 170,000 small investors warning them to sell their shares, as part of the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences. The letters began arriving at investors’ home addresses on May 7, 2006, asking that shares be sold within 14 days, and that the group should be informed of the sale by e-mail via a hotmail address. It added: “We will be checking that you have done this. The choice is yours

It’s the threat, Vegas, and the fact that right wing extremist groups have been moving into the mainstream since Obama’s election. I dont’ believe anyone should be addicted to anything. You should really quit if you get edgy when you don’t have it. It’s supposed to be for recreational and medical use. unless you are using it medically to relieve stress. didn’t know your life was that chaotic. You always act like you’ve got life by the horns.

No prob, Vegas — here, have a “virtual toke” (on me). You’ll start to see wonderful, magical things — like a fourth Super Bowl Trophy … or perhaps, something a little more reasonable — like a certain someone NOT wearing #12 anymore. They should re-assign DHB the number 6 – isn’t that about the number of cathces he had last year?!

Seriously, the guys on satellite said that Campbell is at least 2 years away from being pro-ready. He looks like a 4th or 5th rounder on tape.
Al, NO MORE DEVELOPMENTAL PLAYERS IN THE 1ST FREEKN ROUND

I also see Priesttj prepping us for a possible Taylor Mays draft pick. Talking about him being a running back because he’s explosive and his father was a great running back in college.
I would say….let’s put a hold on experiments until we can develop a player not named Asomugha or Miller.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:01 pm
Taylor Mays? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Raidert,
Mays is a late 1st round pick. Speed isn’t everything. Eric Berry looks good on tape, that’s why he’s a consensus top 5-10…Mays has gaps…that’s why he’s late 1st round.
A 40x won’t change that for teams with front offices that actually use film to make decisions
If Mays was under 4.3, the Raiders would start making jerseys today.
We had Priest starting to get us prepared for the Mays landing….fortunately they revised that 40 number
Now we can hopefully get a player that can actually help us.
Just have to HOPE the Raiders actually watch film on this Campbell kid and realize he’s not top 10 material

Raidert,
That’s why the Raiders have all these busts and late bloomers. They are forced to start players that should be on the bench way before their time beause of their bloated contracts.
JaDavis, Huff, DMAC, DHB…none of them ready for primetime.
Davis drafts like he’s at the bottom of the 1st round when he’s consistently in the top 8.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:24 pm
What’s my “persona”?
Really I just like to argue a lot. Hence, again, the BP.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:25 pm
Vegas,
It would be downright awful if Davis goes to script this year with all the good talent that is actually in this draft.
I can still see Goodell on the podium saying “Raiders select, Bruce Campbell, Tackle Maryland” Then Mayock and company opining about this is the Raider way…
Meanwhile, yet another player on the roster that needs someone to hype him up as a good decision when the truth blatently says otherwise.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:25 pm
That’s because Al Davis thinks he already has a good team. He doesn’t go by wins and losses, like every other owner in professional sports. He goes by wins and losses from 3 decades ago. How can we be a bad team? We had the sea of hands play! That’s how Al Davis thinks.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:27 pm
Real MaddenRaider,
Davis also thinks you can coach the other stuff and that selecting players is mostly athleticism.
Unfortunately, Davis doesn’t hire or retain good coaches very long.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:27 pm
The way you act in here, Vegas. The image you project to the rest of us. You sound like you have it all together. But you’re telling me you smoked pot with your dad at 15, which is way too young to smoke pot, and most people who do smoke pot at that age have a lot of alcohol and drug problems when older, and that you still smoke it today? I’d believe it if you lived in a trailer park and smoked meth, too. But since you live in a good area and make decent money, based upon your comments, your childhood story sounds a bit too action packed.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:27 pm
SnB,
Call me crazy, but I think Al might get it right in the first round this year.
A broken clock is right twice a day, right? That’s my hope
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Al Davis thinks his Organization & Systems are idiot proof. Forged by his genius in the early years. Therefore the non-respect of coaching & chemistry.
The delusions are all in his head, he thinks he can plug in Ht/Speed to his template, and produce greatness.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Action-packed, lol
When you condense 12 years into a handful of stories, it will come out that way.
But drugs and alcohol are a way of life. You got to play the hand you are dealt. Thankfully, I am a good bullshyter and thus a decent salesman, so things have worked itself out.
But we burn the candles on both ends. Pops died before he hit 50.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:31 pm
Huff and McFadden were considered sure fire picks. In fact both were considered the safe picks in the draft.Russell was also considered a sure fire choice.Almost every scout and personnel man said the same thing.Quit trying to rewrite history.DHB was also considered a 1st rd pick.maybe he was picked too early, but most of you said it’s ok to take someone early if he is really the player you want. The problem is he wasn’t the player YOU wanted, therefore you hate him.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:31 pm
That’s it? That’s the extent of optimism we can have in Al Davis anymore? That a broken clock is right twice a day? That means he’s a broken clock, hence, broken. that means he’s useless. That means we can put anyone into his position and they’ll, at the very least, do just as good as him. And as it stands, everyone in his position in his industry has. It is scary how bad Al davis is.

March 2nd, 2010 at 6:35 pm
Vegas Raider, there is absolutely nothing normal about smoking pot with your father at age 15. It’s child abuse, period. 15 is way too young, and a responsible, pot smoking adult knows that. Your father was a criminal and a child abuser. Your childhood was traumatic, not cool, nor normal, nor a “way”. It was an abusive environment. But now you’ve got it all together, in Vegas, married, you earn enough money to piss away on betting college basketball, and you still toke from time to time? Doesn’t add up, Vegas. Guys who smoked pot with dad when they were 15 are either done with drugs outright, or smoking crack.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Lefty
Russell WAS a sure fire pick
Dmac WAS a sure fire pick
DHB WAS NOT.
But how can you bust out on 3 straight top 8 picks? The Laws of Averages would be against you.
-The Raider Organization is a Death Knell for Players.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Lefty12,
I guess you are right. Just frustrating that Raider fans have to see bust after bust after bust and a litany of excuses as to why the Raiders are where they are.
Litany of excuses for a p&ss poor run defense that no one wants to improve….excuses as to why a guy average less than 4 per carry deserves more carries than the guy averaging just under 5 per carry..
Whatever happened to “Just Win Baby”
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:39 pm
When you start that young, you try, experiment, and in my case, move on from the hard-stuff by your late teens.
My childhood was not traumatic, I worked at McDonalds, had girlfriends, and played baseball nearly year-round.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:42 pm
Vegas Raider, if your father was smoking pot with you at age 15, your childhood was f’d up, no way around it. It’s one thing to get high with your friends at 15. It’s another thing for your father, a parent, an authoritative figure, to pass it to you. That’s a complete breakdown of emotional security. And, again, you show me anyone who was getting high with their father at age 15, they are either sworn to sobriety by 25, or smoking meth off of tin foil.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:44 pm
And DHB was a dreadful pick. He should have been drafted later and allowed to ease into the lineup.
Nope, Davis thought he was Cliff Branch in a box…and threw him out there when everyone knew he wasn’t ready….then have to use words like “decoy”
Lefty, these top 10 picks are KILLING the Raiders. These guys are supposed to contribute/show improvement in year 1….we are having to wait until year 4 just to see some improvement.
This team will never win until it starts getting decent players in the top end of the draft.
They would seriously be better off trading their picks for lower picks…even if its pick for pick.
Right now Bruce Campbell and Taylor Mays are top of mind for Davis. We’ll see what happens
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:44 pm
KK- DHB was said to be a 1st rd pick.In fact it was said the Giants wanted him.Now he was projected as a later 1st rounder but a 1st rounder none the less.If I remember right, you were on the Mack bandwagon and said we should take him if he was the player we wanted-even if it was too early.

I guess Seymour Bush is done. I’ll give you guys a quick replay. Seymour asked me what great players of hall of famers Gruden drafted in Tampa. I said none, but that Gruden did get some decent players to at least win a couple of division titles after Dungy’s team was “dismantled” (his words). Seymour responded by saying that the ‘07 Bucs were in fact Dungy’s team. Did a quick google, only to find that only two starters on the ‘07 Bucs were from the Dungy era, Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber. Seymour then lied and said that Kelly and Alstott were starters in ‘07, too, which they were not. I haven’t seen ol Seymour Bush since. I hope he’s ok. I don’t blame him for being embarrassed.

Please do sweetie. And, be sure and tell them that I received his information from the web page he posted on this blog. You are such a tool.

I wonder if anyone ever got the gonoads to actually call KoolKell and harass him.
I almost wanted to call him to BS, just for the heck of it, but I figured I would respect his privacy.
I can’t imagine others would grant the same respect.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Einstein, you’re already having comments deleted. There’s no place in here for your conduct, and it looks like the mods have caught on. No point in reading your drivel, it will be gone in a couple of reloads anyway. You’re a voice that will never be heard. A clown, with no audience.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:07 pm
I notice how you like to take what someone says and twist it just a bit or only use a few of their words to fit your claims.
With regards to what Cable said about Seymour was that if you watch the tape they ran very little to his side when he was in the game.
With regards to Cable and if he was coming back, Cable said he use to laugh at you people. Cable said that all the fuss about his coming or going was started by you people.

Einstein, considering the content of your comments, I think any of the mods can reasonably assume you’re posting Kool Kell’s info to incite action from people who might take exception to his views in here. Since the mods already axed it, it’s obvious they do see it that way. you’re being watched.

The fuss of Cable coming or going may have been a media creation, but all the Raiders had to do was put out a two line press release saying something like, “Tom Cable is our coach for 2010, and we look forward to him adding to the greatness of the Raiders”.
Instead, everyone twisted in the wind.

I hope Kell contacts the authorities if anyone does call him for the sake of intimidating him. Any phone call to him that isn’t an outright friendly call is an attempt to harass, which is illegal. I hope he files a complaint, gets some much needed criminal charges leveled at some of those in here who need to have their little protective cyber bubble busted.

—————-
Vegas,
Don’t remember the story you’re talking about. But it doesn’t sound like this guy was a terrorist at all. Just a crazy/stupid azzhole.
I don’t buy the liberal media bias theory. That’s just something promoted by the Right Wing talking heads so they can discredit the real media and make up their own facts and not get worried about getting called out for making stuff up because their listeners are convinced the mainstream media is the one lying.
I don’t remember the story you’re talking about. Probably because, sadly, it’s not all that unusual. Crazed gunmen go on these rampages many, many times a year for one reason or another in this country. However, an American citizen flying a plane loaded with explosives into an IRS building — less than 10 years after Muslim terrorists carried out the worst attack on American soil using the same exact method — is a story that is going to grab the media and public interest. If it was some PETA or environmental fanatic it would garner at least as much and probably even more media attention.
The true media bias: sensationalism. If you want to complain about the mainstream media complain about the fact that they’re only interested in showing you fires, shootings, scandalous allegations, celebrity gossip and other content that mostly serves you know purpose other than the fact that sensationalism = entertainment and most people prefer entertainment to real knowledge.
Trust me. I worked in a newsroom for 9 years.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Maybe I am crazy, Einstein. But a crazy guy has access to the mods at this website, and the FBI’s contact page, as I think judging by Norco Bob’s comments, your guys’ harassment of Kell is based on racism.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Hey you moron MaddenGayder, have you heard of the “FIRST AMENDMENT” probably not, because you are an uneducated moron. Read it, then re-read your “alleged” allegations based on what your moronic mind “thinks” is law, and what you “think” could warrant prosecution. Idiot. Try not to comment on things you obviously know NOTHING about. I am now finished even commenting on your idiocy.

March 2nd, 2010 at 7:20 pm
Chris,
I can agree with that. Pretty well though out, so I can respect that.
The Vegas story was different in that, everything was a perfect setup for a right-wing radical shooting story. Than it fell like a house of cards, as it turned out it wasn’t the case.
Maybe I looked at it as biased, when in fact, it just didn’t make as good of a story as the media wanted.
You kind of had to see it happen to understand it more I guess. They didn’t release any pics of the guy for a day, so when it was a 60 year old black guy, everyone was shocked. Not at all what you thought, and what the media implied.
Maybe I am looking into it too much. Wouldn’t be the first-time.

MIKE MLB MICAH JOHNSON needs to be on the Raiders football team and he should be there to be had with one of those two 3rd Round picks. Johnson would be a great addition to the LB corp. He is consistently excellent against the run and it shows on this highlight video of him below.
Take a look at these you tube highlights of his play….ESPECIALLY versus the RUN! He does things that Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard are supposed to be doing versus the run!

RMR,
How can you state that Al Davis doesn’t care about winning, only doing things his way? That is a ridiculous statement. He hired Gruden in the first place didn’t he? He let Jon bring his west coast offense to Oakland. An offense Al despises. But he saw Gruden as a bright young coach, consumed by a passion for professional football, much like he was at the same age. I think he believed he’d found another young prodigy in Lane Kiffin. However Kiffin turned out to be just an opportunist.

I don’t know who would be more miserable if the young Raiders turned things and started to win again, you or Tom Jackson? You, because it would fly in the face of your “Raiders will never win as long as Al is alive” rants. Or Tom Jackson, whose only role at ESPN seems to be to poke the Raiders with a stick.
Would you be happy if the Raiders won again MaddenRaider?

Howdy Bob! For the duration of this past weekend through at least tonight, I’ve switched back to Norcos… keep the sinuses guessing, says I. Have you tried them the correct way yet?

Dogg,
I hope they do blow up.
That’s the frustrating thing with the hip-hop “game”. Cats like East Bay Sick and Dubbsack are super talented and have been working on their craft for years, for no pay.
Than you have guys making millions of dollars as teenagers with no talent, and no work effort.
Frustrating as hell, and that’s why I stepped away from it all. I was on the promotions/business/investing side of things with Dubbsack from 99-03. Put out two albums, had Black C from RBL on one of them, and opened for Angelina at the San Joaquin County Fair.
What did it get us? Nothing. They are still trying to do it, and Dubbsack signed with a distributor group and strangely have a following in Eastern Europe of all places (they have been on TV out there and that video is only played on one station, and it is in like Brussels or some crazy place like that).
Keep me posted on EastBay Sick. If you want I can get you in contact with the Dubbsack guys. The fat white guy with the Dubbsack tats was in my wedding party and I still talk to him weekly.
