ESPN: Warren, Fargas could be cut
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, March 4th, 2010 at 8:09 am in Oakland Raiders.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is expecting defensive tackle Gerard Warren and running back Justin Fargas to be released before scheduled bonus payments are due early this month.
In a related story, Raiders.com reports tickets are still available for the Commitment to Excellence awards dinner, featuring tight end Zach Miller and . . . . running back Justin Fargas.
Fargas has won or shared the award for three consecutive seasons.

Finally rid of Fargas!
March 4th, 2010 at 8:09 am
2nd?
March 4th, 2010 at 8:10 am
Ger ready for the Mike Bush featuring DMAC show!
March 4th, 2010 at 8:10 am
Jerry I already posted that. lol
March 4th, 2010 at 8:11 am
when is the Commitment to Excellence awards dinner?
hopefully BEFORE justin’s bonus is due!
March 4th, 2010 at 8:12 am
Jerry Mac still hasn’t posted anything about Hiram Eugene …
hopefully that was just a cruel joke!
March 4th, 2010 at 8:13 am
“This year, we present our Commitment to Excellence award to… Justin Fargas. To change things up a little bit, we’ve redesigned it a bit: it’s no longer a trophy, but rather a beautifully pink colored slip of paper. Congratulations, Justin.”
March 4th, 2010 at 8:14 am
Not sure one bad move has beed made so far. If Morrison, Warren, Fargas, Green, Barnes, and Pears are all upgraded, then that is a good thing. If Stan Routt is no longer going to play in the slot, that’s a good thing. Open QB competition, good thing!
So far, so good!
Now get me Iupati in rd 1, Lamar Houston in Rd 2, Micah Johnson and Skelton in rd 3, and we are ready for OTAs!
March 4th, 2010 at 8:14 am
repost –
Seymour & Kelly at DT would mean more time for Shaughnessy, but also means we’re drafting a DE.
Ellis is old & brittle. entering the last year of his contract
Richardson/Gunheim aren’t starter quality …
Jason Pierre-Paul (DE South Florida)
I seriously doubt Derrick Morgan is available at #8 unless he has a bad showing at the Pro Day
March 4th, 2010 at 8:17 am
get me Iupati in rd 1, Lamar Houston in Rd 2, Micah Johnson and Skelton in rd 3, and we are ready for OTAs!
***
1st of all, Morrison would have to be TRADED.
2nd of all, Pears is still on the roster and under contract
3rd of all, can Iupati play RT? you don’t normally draft guards in the top 10 …
March 4th, 2010 at 8:17 am
I’d like to see you mock of the first 8 picks RRS.
Who do you think takes A DE before 8?
March 4th, 2010 at 8:23 am
Is it you disagreeing with your boy Jerry on him being unblockable?
***
Jerry Mac said AT TIMES he looked unblockable. meaning he’s very inconsistent. Said TK also had those moments.
He said this about the DL (not LB’s) in that same article:
“the amount of rushing yardage they surrendered through either shabby tackling, poor gap control, or simply getting pushed around.”
so was he talking about Ellis, Seymour, Richardson & Shaughnessy or was he talking about the DT’s humpty & dumpty? you tell me …
March 4th, 2010 at 8:24 am
You don’t think the great Kirk Morrison is going to get any other offers? You think he signs the tender to back up Ricky Brown?
Pears? Really? What kinda contract did he sign last year that has him still on the roster? There’s your RT.
Hey, I wanted Mack last year at 7. I’d take Iupati at 8 plug him in at RG, and watch him dominate for the next 10 years on his way to the HOF. I have no interest in moving him to RT. Satele needs him next to him more than anything, IMO! Run game blossoms.
Or you can give me the big homey Langston to play RG if you want to snag Williams at 8. I’m good either way. A few good options out there.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:29 am
RRS,
Why did you leave out the part of the SAME sentence that preceeded that comment?
“On one hand, the Raiders often played on the opposite side of the line and were among the league leaders in tackles for loss.”
Guess that part didn’t really help you post, huh? They way you pick and choose and take things out of context is very RRS’ish of you, lol.
So tell me who Jerry was talking about OFTEN playing on the opposite side of the line and getting tackles for losses?
March 4th, 2010 at 8:31 am
They can’t cut Money. He was Russell’s last friend.
Oh well, Bruce Campbell and Jacoby can enjoy some of Mrs. Gradkowski’s famous casserole without him.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:32 am
I’d like to see you mock of the first 8 picks
***
Here are the Top 10 picks as I see it. not in order. no team specified (yet)
Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Russell Okung, T, Oklahoma State
Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
March 4th, 2010 at 8:33 am
We are releasing Fargas to get another runningback to form the three headed “joke” of a monster. Here is the reason why. They never had faith in Mike Bush running the ball and DMAC is always prone to being hurt. Plus, to date DMAC has been a bust at RB. All those who hated us drafting DMac so far are right.
Don’t be surpised if Big Al makes a run for Darren Sproles.
Don’t forget you heard it here first.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:36 am
If we don’t draft a lineman with our first round pick Al is not only off his rocker, he will also be on Crack.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:40 am
So tell me who Jerry was talking about OFTEN playing on the opposite side of the line and getting tackles for losses?
***
I’ll give you the stats, but you’ll probably steal a line from Debo, Tomlin & Belicheat like “stats are for losers” right?
Tackles for a loss:
Morrison – 8
Howard – 7.5
Branch – 5.5
Asomugha – 5.5
Seymour – 5
Kelly – 5
Shaughnessy – 4.5
Scott – 2.5
Warren – 2
Alston – 2
Williams – 2
Bryant – 1.5
Ellis – 1
Richardson – 1
Johnson – 1
Huff, Eugene, Brown, Routt & Mitchell = 0
March 4th, 2010 at 8:42 am
I seriously doubt Derrick Morgan is available at #8 unless he has a bad showing at the Pro Day
——————————————————-
Point of the mock ? was who you thought would take Morgan before 8.

Why all the non Dlineman on you list. The comment was specific to the Dline. No reading between the lines man. Jerry simply said in regards to the Dline ….
“On one hand, the Raiders often played on the opposite side of the line and were among the league leaders in tackles for loss.”
Commence with the spinning, lol!
I’ll catch up later, duty calls.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:54 am
Haden won’t past the brownies. I like drafting Davis though.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:55 am
Not a bad mock …
March 4th, 2010 at 8:56 am
RRs,
Just a note to show how stats can be misleading:
Huff, Eugene, Brown, Routt, and Mitchell didn’t have ANY tackles for loss this past season… BUT… how many times did we blitz them? Discounting Brown at LB, the rest are safeties. A safety will NOT have a tackle for loss unless he blitzes and is at or near the LOS when the ball is snapped. The fact that we send a player from the secondary on a blitz roughly once a season would be a good reason that they combine for 0 tackles for loss.
As Mark Twain said:
“There are three kinds of lies… lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
March 4th, 2010 at 8:57 am
I have Weis snatching Clausen and Cassell being cut.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:57 am
Bills might trade up with the Seaturds though and grab Clausen at #6. then Seattle would give Hasselbeck another season and replace Walter Jones with OT Davis/Williams/Campbell at #9 … whoever Oakland doesn’t select
March 4th, 2010 at 8:57 am
Anyone know what Fargas is slated to make this season? Isn’t it around $5 million? I believe Warren is due the same.
This draft is extremely deep in both RBs and DTs. I think those are the two deepest positions in it so this makes sense. Not to mention it’s time to let Bush and McFadden take the reins.
March 4th, 2010 at 9:00 am
Jerry simply said in regards to the Dline ….
***
fine. Seymour, Kelly, Shaughnessy & Scott all had more TFL’s than “money”. Matt & Trevor weren’t even every down players
my boy Kirk had more TFL’s than Warren & Kelly combined! LOL
March 4th, 2010 at 9:03 am
Steve: we did blitz with DB’s last year!
haha
ask New England Raider. thats why MM34 will be a stud, because of how he looks in blitz packages …

——————-
That makes sense. Although the Seaturds could be interested in drafting Clausen themselves since Hasselbeck is like 35 with back issues and declining performance. Not to mention Pete Carroll has ties to Clausen and wanted him at USC.
And not to mention the Seahawks have another 1st round pick with which they can address their LT position. I could see them snagging USC LT Charles Brown who was excellent for Carroll and is projected as a 1st rounder. I actually think Brown could wind up being the best of this year’s OT group.
March 4th, 2010 at 9:06 am
If Huggy Bear is cut, how about drafting Stef Johnson in the later rounds???
March 4th, 2010 at 9:07 am
how is posting stats “spinning” ?
stats = facts. that shows what actually happened and takes “opinion” out of the equation
why are you still backing a player that is about to get the axe? Morrison was not under contract and got tendered. Warren was under contract and they are actually gonna toss him to the curb. what does that tell you?
March 4th, 2010 at 9:12 am
Chris -
good points about Clausen & Brown to Seattle.
Bills are not bringing back WR’s Owens or Reed. that leaves Evans (just 44 catches last year) and Hardy (10 catches combined over the past 2 seasons)
Dez Bryant to Buffalo?

March 4th, 2010 at 9:20 am
Dez Bryant to Buffalo makes a lot of sense Rockstar. Of course, if St. Louis takes Sam Bradford instead of Suh things could really get crazy because Washington, Seattle and Buffalo are all also looking for QBs and I get the sense that there’s a dropoff from the top two (Bradford & Clausen) to everyone else.
Chiefs are in a prime spot to swing a deal with one of those teams with that No. 3 pick.

March 4th, 2010 at 9:25 am
Fargas is due too much money. He’s 30 and has a lot of wear and tear. This draft is loaded with RBs. It’s time for Bush and McFadden to get a shot.
McFadden really hasn’t had his chance yet. I’m not ready to write him off. He’s one of our most explosive players and he’s never had a chance to get more than about 10 touches per game. That’s really not enough to be a difference maker. Time for him to get 15-20 touches per game every game. If he stays healthy, he’ll break out with that kind of workload.
March 4th, 2010 at 9:26 am

Personally, I think cutting Fargas is a huge mistake! I do not want to see him in a Chargers’ uniform.
Fargas is a spark-plug. When DMAC falls trips over a shoe-string tackle and Bush stutter-steps in the backfield when we only need 3 inches, Fargas is the guy who comes in and punches the other team in the mouth.

Mc, I was getting frustrated when all they (WEEI)kept doing was talking junk about the semour deal. The reality is the Raiders haven’t been drafting well and we get a guy with superbowl/pro bowl experience to hopefully rub off on some of the other guys. What’s wrong with that? The truth is Bellichek got real arrogant this off season and really dismantled his defense. I’m sure he’s so cocky he figured it was his brilliant scheming, What a loser. M- I’m not implying to pay him what he is owed, more along the lines of a special teamer. I do agree with the theory of thinning the herd. How about Fargas as running back coach. Then we get his attitude but not his less than spectacular play?
March 4th, 2010 at 9:56 am
McFadden is 22-years-old. He averaged 3.9 YPC with 5 TDs and 10.3 yards per catch over the last two seasons.
Fargas is 30-years-old. He averaged 3.9 YPC with 4 TDs and 6.5 yards per catch the last two seasons.
Fargas also had 347 rushing attempts over that time to McFadden’s 217 — yet 1 fewer TD.
Someone again explain to me why Fargas is a better option than DMac?
March 4th, 2010 at 9:56 am

March 4th, 2010 at 9:59 am
Boldin brings a veteran presence and respectability. a true #1 WR. it takes pressure off of Schilens, Higgins, Murphy & Heyward-Bey. Even Zach Miller to be the go-to guy …
these youngster WR’s become more like complements and will have more opportunities for a mismatch lined up against lesser talent than the other team’s #1 CB
big difference facing Revis or Bailey vs. Donald Strickland or Andre Goodman, right?
March 4th, 2010 at 9:59 am
Chris, Dmac is the better option over Fargas. Few will dispute that except BSJ and a few others. I am open to having a free agent runningback come in and make a solid trio.
March 4th, 2010 at 9:59 am
WHAT DO YOU DO DMAC. I SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS OCCUPATION
March 4th, 2010 at 10:00 am
Actually McFadden has 50 catches over the last two seasons. Fargas has 27 over that same time period.
And, according to Yahoo! Sports, Fargas had a base salary in 2009 of more than $6 million while McFadden’s was in the $4 million range.

Hairy,
I think the draft is a better route to go for adding a 3rd RB. Not in Round 1, obviously. But a Toby Gerhart, LeGarrette Blount, Joe McKnight, Montario Hardesty, Ben Tate, Lonyae Miller or others in the mid-to-late rounds would be an excellent addition.
March 4th, 2010 at 10:05 am
Fargas is a RB. McFelldown is NOT. Cannot hit hard, elude tacklers, or hold onto the ball.
DMAC could be a receiver though. Hopefully for some other team.

March 4th, 2010 at 10:08 am
Chris, I think my only concern would be the fact we already have so much youth on the team. I would like to see a little more of a veteran/youngster medley

Time for JFar to start preparing for his coaching career. It certainly sounds as though his running days with the S&B are over.

McSkinny,
The problem is McFadden never gets into a flow in the running game. He averaged just 7 carries per game over the second half of the season. He only had more than 12 carries in any game once all season. What’s he supposed to do with that?
You know Cable has never given McFadden 20 carries in a game since he took over for Kiffin? The only time McFadden has had 20 more or carries in a game was that KC game his rookie year when Kiffin was still in charge. He had 21 carries that game and went for 164 yards and a TD. Since then he touches the ball about 2 times per quarter.

——————–
Because DMac has only been in the league for 2 years so I’m comparing them over the course of that time when they’re working with the same coaches, teammates, opponents, etc. Plus DMac has had fewer carries over 2 seasons than a No. 1 back typically gets in a single season, so I opted for the larger sample.
By the way, I’m not saying DMac has shown he’s great or anything. He’s had injury, fumble and footing issues. But he’s still got tremendous upside.
I think he’s been ridiculously misused by Cable (getting only a handful of carries per game and most of them coming between the tackles). I’m eager to see what a new playcaller and OC with clout — Hue Jackson — can do with McFadden. If he stinks this year then it’s time to start looking past him. Right now I’d argue he’s never had a real shot to succeed and part of the reason for that is the coach’s love of Fargas and constantly running Fargas when Bush and McFadden were the better options all along.

March 4th, 2010 at 10:46 am
I can’t tell you how friggin excited I was last year watching that game. I swear when they called back that Murphy touchdown it deflated me (and the Raiders) beyond belief. I said to my friend that day, the tone for the season has been set.
If we could somehow maintain that level of energy for at least 10-12 games this season, I would be one happy man.
Is 2003 the last time we won an opener?
March 4th, 2010 at 10:52 am
HB: Week 1 was an important lesson to learn
prevent defense only prevents you from winning.
prevent defense in the 4th quarter to protect a small lead allowed SD to march right down the field & punch it in. Rob Ryan was famous for this.
We never saw it again all season, but it cost us our 1st win against Sandy Eggo in 7 years!
March 4th, 2010 at 10:55 am
the Murphy TD was especially bad because it cost us 4 points, settling for a FG and we ended up losing that game by 4!
However, like I said, Marshall & Co had a chance to close it out and failed to do so against the Dolts banged up line. We should have played aggressive and forced a 3 & out. game over
March 4th, 2010 at 10:55 am
Hopefully we will see very little or even better no prevent this year.
March 4th, 2010 at 11:01 am
where is S&B Defense?
as expected, the Bucs & Texans tendered MLB’s Ruud & Ryans at the highest possible tenders. 1st & 3rd paying them $3.2 million this year (like Routt)
worth it to give up a 1st & 3rd for a vet MLB who’ll want at least $10 million per season in a long term deal?
then you’d better hope Houston or Cody are free in Round 2!
and hope Cable can patch up the RG & RT needs in rounds 3 & 4. we know he’d strike out in free agency …
March 4th, 2010 at 11:04 am
the alternative (if we want a vet MLB) would be to enter a bidding war for Karlos Dansby or settle for a player like Antonio Pierce, Gary Brackett or Larry Foote, who may not even be an improvement over Kirk Morrison!

RRs,
Just a note to show how stats can be misleading:
Huff, Eugene, Brown, Routt, and Mitchell didn’t have ANY tackles for loss this past season… BUT… how many times did we blitz them? Discounting Brown at LB, the rest are safeties. A safety will NOT have a tackle for loss unless he blitzes and is at or near the LOS when the ball is snapped. The fact that we send a player from the secondary on a blitz roughly once a season would be a good reason that they combine for 0 tackles for loss.
As Mark Twain said:
“There are three kinds of lies… lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
==============================
Have to question the validity of the stats unless sacks don’t count as tackles for a loss.
Routt had at least one sack last year in the red zone that stopped a potential TD drive.
It was his lone bright spot. The play before he got burned.

The truth is the Raiders need some life in them, not just guys going through the motions and collecting a paycheck. I realise one of your goals is to insult people and get them fired up, I am a rational person who tries to see both sides. Do I want to see the Raiders Lose to a lousy team? Do I want us to look like we have no disipline? Do I want us to rack up fines just for the heck of it? Obviously the answer is no. In other words, he’s an easy target, and everytime the whole slew of posters slap him down, his only retort is “Why does everyone care?”

Richochet, That game was embarrasing no doubt. My point was meant on a larger scale, the big picture if you will. If you think the Raiders are fine the way they are and don’t need some of that old swagger back, I guess I really don’t know what to tell you. I stopped drinking the kool aid a couple years ago. It hurts.
=========================
I agree..but..long gone are the days the NFL allows teams to play the bully bit, and get away with it, right?
Now? The fine ya..big time.
Suspend players..eject them…and slap on hefty penalties that cost the team.
What I’m saying is hard nosed football is what I would like back..penalties or not. Solid play that wins games.
Look at the last 10 SB winners?
Solid hard playing teams, who don’t/didn’t shoot themselves in the foot with stupid penalties.
My point is cheap shots are just that..cheap shots.
lay someone out legally? Vicious hit? Pancake someone?
And win the game?
Doesn’t get much better than that..

I beleive “hard nosed” football and the occasional “remember me” hit or comment are one in the same. I am not implying it is all about cheap shots. More so about energy/passion and laying it all out there to get the win at the end of the day. The NFL is more about $$ now a days as opposed to just pure enjoyment of the sport. I started liking the Raiders because of there attitude and persona, I’m just looking to get some of that back.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@2
Lol! This is your basis for comparing Gannon and Grads RRS?? I’ve heard it all now. What’s next? They both love the color green?? A better one would be Donald Hollas. But Hollas at least won 3 or 4 games in a row and got us to 6-2. Grads deserves no comparisons. And am I the only one that finds it strange that he got a 2nd-round tender when he’s supposedly the front runner to start here next year?

I don’t know what to say, I don’t think I would tender Ricky Brown, I doubt he is worth a roster spot, I would cut him and try resign him for special teams only and backup SLB not MLB, also Eugene is not worth a second round tender even though he would get signed by another team, I would tender him a third rounder, Routt is worth a first if AL wants to keep him, why first and third no idea unless AL knew a team would offer a first for him. This draft is filled with so many talents, I would tender most of the guys a third and fourth so that we can get many more picks and pay them less.

No doubt there is a time and place where a play that gets a penalty is worth it…a vicious hit across the middle..that while costing a penalty, has receivers short arming balls.
Another thing is going to the edge to where you get the other player to lose it, costing that team..which players like Romo used to do all the time.
You know what they say..winning cures all ills.
Being up by a couple of td’s? And a “tacky play’?? lol..all for it.
Down by a score, and team driving down the field?
You get my drift..no doubt.

Ah…the “feigning ignorance/confusion” reply.
The offer was for YOU to broach a topic..so hey..no problem.
Al…:) let’s discuss Al for starters, peanut.
I think it’s scandalous on what Al did to the fans both when he came back to Alameda, on the signing day, as well as everything he did in 2002, both during Super bowl week, and following it.
How do you view all of what happened?
Oh..then we can discuss how Al drove off John Madden, and how their final year together went, including how the players felt about it.
Oh..and what the hell..Al and the brigade of head coaches.
What do you feel about all of Al’s butting in, what he’s done during practices, the over ruling calls he’s made to the different coaches?
We’ll just start with that, peanut.

Wow, little Poodle, I’m impressed! You actually copped to failing to bring up any sort of topic in 3 attempts!
That shows growth, little dude, something that does score points in your attempts to become my full time minion apprentice!
First of all, just accept Al doesn’t consider the opinions of his fans in any of his business moves. So you’re wasting precious poodle energy getting worked up over him moving the team to whatever locale offers him the most attractive package. And he’ll stomp over anyone (except usually players) to get it.
You ever heard of Idi Amin? Dictatorship has its price and the fans pay to live in Al’s kingdom. Don’t spend your days getting worked up about his injustice, it’ll just turn you into a bigger, wackier basket case.
I’m not sure what you’re interested in learning about the coaching cavalcade that you should already know. No sane person could rationally explain how rapid turnover leads to team stability.
Personally, I was hoping the Kiffin experiment would work out, mainly because the possibility of Monte installing a modern defensive scheme and Kiffin’s keen eye for college talent.
Anyway, his meddling is mostly, if not all, to blame for the chaotic state of his team, its loss of financial value and league wide respect, not to mention his only way to buy free agents is by massive overspending.
Hope that helps and gives you something to think about. Maybe next time we can discuss your favorite Raider merchandise purchases through the ages!
