Frye, Lawton tendered

Share

The Raiders made qualifying offers to quarterback Charlie Frye and fullback Luke Lawton, keeping them off the unrestricted free agent market which opened about 20 minutes ago.

Frye was given an original round tender. A five-year veteran, Frye would earn $1,226 million with the Raiders in 2010 if on the roster this season. If he brings back an offer sheet from another team and the Raiders don’t match it, they would receive a third-round pick. Frye was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2005, No. 67 overall.

Lawton was given simply a right of first-refusal tender. If he were to be signed by another team, there would be no compensation. Lawton ended the 2009 season and will open the 2010 season on a suspension for using performance enhancing drugs.

The Raiders did not extend qualifying offers to tackle Khalif Barnes or linebacker Jon Alston, meaning they are free agents.

One or both could still be signed by the Raiders during free agency.

The final tally of Raiders restricted free agents and their levels of compensation:

LB Ricky Brown, 2nd round

LS Jon Condo, 2nd round

S Hiram Eugene, 2nd round

QB Charlie Frye, 3rd round

QB Bruce Gradkowski, 2nd round

LB Thomas Howard, 2nd round

FB Luke Lawton, right of first refusal

C Chris Morris, 7th round

LB Kirk Morrison, 3rd round

CB Stanford Routt, 1st and 3rd round

RFA’s not tendered: Jon Alston, Khalif Barnes

    Sign Bolden!

  • Not as many mock drafts flying around in here like last year.

I think we were a little overboard with it last year though. I think I had a good 7-8 “mocks”.

  • Thec07

This is the year to spend, Mr. Davis should feel compelled…

  • RaiderRockstar

start JR because he has a big body to absorb the blows behind our swiss cheese o-line!

  • Throw in that I almost had a heart attack at the end of the Nova-Cincy game the other night and I am scared to wager these days, I am in sports Siberia right now.

  • jhill

    And to clarify that RRS,

That’s only if there is a legitimate chance of Russell being cut. If they plan on developing Russell, then I say skip Skelton all together.

  • DMAC

This offseason is a little confusing to me. So are we keeping sorry ass Luke???

  • RaiderRockstar

    Spoon over Spikes.

Spikes had stiff hips at the combine. Scouts don’t think he’ll be able to cover very well in the pros.

might have dropped from 15-20 overall to 30-40 overall

    remember Rey Malalala last year?

  • Garbage is not the answer.

Go after McNabb, Kolb, Bulger, maybe even Croyle or Billy Volec, David Carr, Pennington if healthy, maybe even Troy Smith!

  • HairyBush

Why is it that teams like the Detroit Lions are being aggresive and trying to improve there team, but I don’t hear a thing about the Raiders being mentioned?
    If Al doesn’t start opening his wallet in the next day or 2, we will be left overspending for the scraps. I hope he is working out some kind of blockbuster for guys like Boldin and Dansby. Please Al no more reclamation projects or other teams has beens. AKA Javon,D.Hall,K.Harris etc;

  • DMAC

Just give me a tough MLB who can shed blockers. Can Spoon shed blockers? (Never seen him play.)

  • RaiderRockstar

If they plan on developing Russell, then I say skip Skelton all together.

    ***

how can they develop him? what should they do differently? this is his 4th NFL season. shouldn’t he be close to “developed” already?

no doubt he was a raw prospect when we drafted him, but dang buster! 4 years?

  • jhill

    Jonesy,

Would it surprise you to know that Grads loses fumbles at the same rate that Bruce does?

You know that shabby Oline you were talking about? They allow our guys to get hit from behind. Which causes injuries and fumbles, right?

  • HairyBush

Are Grads and bruce one in the same lol

  • Pennington is awful.

  • Silver-n-Smac

DHB will gain at least 700 yards this season.

If he doesn’t I guess I need to change my handle to “MaddenRaider’s Pet”?

I think the Raiders will finally have a 1000 yard back again this year.

If not, I supposed I’ll need to hide and change my handle to “No More Fargas’ Biotch”????

Nah. . .sorry, Smac’s always gonna be Smac.

I brought this up yesterday. Cardinals only want a 3rd rounder for Boldin. Pull the trigger uncle Al!!!!!!
    =====================================================
Boldin, Jamal Williams, and Mawae. Get it done, Davis.

  • jhill

I wonder if Russell will be emotional like Delhomme is now if/when the Raiders release him

  • SD_Raider_619

Gibril Wilson will be release by the mermaids today!!!!!!

  • HairyBush

add Gibril to the wasted money pile

  • HairyBush

I mean seriously how can you be succesful with a name like Gibril, he was doomed from the beggining

  • Would it surprise you to know that Grads loses fumbles at the same rate that Bruce does?

    ***********************

    Well sort of…..

When actually sacked, yes their % are pretty identical.

But Bruce wasn’t sacked at the same rate, so not quite fumbling at the same rate.

    Splitting hairs, I know.

  • RaiderRockstar

Al always waits for the first wave of FA to pass. he’ll re-sign low profile guys like he did last year. older vets like Ellis, Garcia & Neal or young guys who fit the system that nobody else wants like Pears, Satele & Gradkowski.

He’s just hoping these draft picks step it up and finally produce.

  • Did I see somewhere that Fargas might get cut? Tom Cable would cry like a wife beating biotch if that happened.

  • jhill

    I don’t know RRS …

I really don’t know. I just think it was one bad year. Certainly Kiffin was “developing” him last year, and I saw progress. I just think his “development” got off track last year. If they plan on trying to get him back on track, or have not given up on him is maybe a better way of saying it, then I think we should pass on a QB this year. If they have given up on him, let’s move on.

Grads may not be the answer when it’s all said and done. But half the guys in that list aren’t the answer either.

  • DHB will have 5 or more TD’s this year. Book it

  • I’d bring in Delhomme (sp?) just to see if Jackson can save him.

  • HairyBush

RR, I know your right, just wishful thinking on my part

  • The Big Banana

Certainly Kiffin was “developing” him last year, and I saw progress.
    ==================================================
This is one thing I agree with you on with respect to Russell, Jhill. He should have never been thrown to the wolves. Needed to be developed slowly, which Kiff was trying to do.

Doesn’t excuse him from being completely immature and not dedicating himself, though.

  • SPOON!

  • jhill

    Vegas,

LOL man. I know our review of the turnovers was a little painful for you last week.

Do me a favor and remind RRS how the “film” study showed those 2 turnovers in the Ravens game were Bradyesque, lol.

  • DMAC

You guys think Jamal Williams has anything left in the tank????

  • RaiderRockstar

I wonder if Russell will be emotional like Delhomme is now if/when the Raiders release him

    ***

nah. Russell is known for his cool demeanor, right?

    “relax guys. I got this”

  • Jeff

I would give Jamal a 1-2 year contract with lots of incentives. (can’t do much worse, right?)

    Boldin, Jamal Williams, Mawae

  • Jeff

Mawae would be a good line coach and hopefully get 1 more year playing out of him

    +++++++++++++++

Not long-term, but I would rather have McNabb for three years, or Bulger for a couple of years, or even Pennington for half a year than start Russell, Garbage or Frye. Volec would also be just a band-aide pickup, but better than anything we have.

Croyle or Carr might be salvageable and Troy Smith might be decent.

You want a good QB long-term…draft Clausen at 8.

  • RaiderRockstar

If they have given up on him, let’s move on.

    ***

I’m fairly certain Cable has and his teammates have. just my opinion there

but Al Davis & Hue Jackson are also involved in some way, shape or form.

I think this offseason will tell us #1 how much JaMarcus is committed to playing pro football and #2 how much the Raiders are committed to him as the starter

slapping tenders on both backup QB’s certainly isn’t something in his favor!

  • The Big Banana

Schefter – “They did not love him tender — Colts did not tender former first-round pick Marlin Jackson and he now is free to sign with any team”

They did not love him tender? Really? Grow a pair!

Really? How do you come to that conclusion?

  • RaiderRockstar

4-3 NT is a lot less physically demanding than 3-4 NT.

I think Jamal Williams has another 2 years left in the tank and this change might help him stay healthy and continue his dominant ways

I’m sure he doesn’t want to end up competing for a job with the possibility of getting beat out or cut. He’d be an instant starter in Oakland and get to face SD twice each year.
