Ross added to coaching staff
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 5:57 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders have added Kevin Ross, a former Kansas City Chiefs rival and teammate of ex-Raider Albert Lewis, to their coaching staff.
Ross presumably takes the job vacated by Clancy Pendergast, who was hired briefly before leaving to take the defensive coordinator’s job at Cal.
With the Chiefs, Ross was one of the NFL’s top man-to-man coverage corners _ a technique favored by the Raiders and owner Al Davis.
Ross was the assistant secondary and quality control coach for the San Diego Chargers but his contract was not renewed following the 2008 season. He coached for the New York franchise in the United Football League in 2009.

How long have you had this hatred?
And after you’re banned, do you think anyone will care?

March 5th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
I don’t know Kell,
Depth, competition. Worst case scenario,a training camp body. Don’t see him as a threat to Mario at LT. So, veteran backup, maybe.
Best case scenario, a healthy Barnes beats out Cornell “false start” Greene, and allows the raiders to bring along a rookie 3rd or 4th Rd pick slowly, instead of throwing them in the fire. That is if the raiders don’t grab one of the elite T prospects at eight.
March 5th, 2010 at 6:14 pm
after last year we need all the bodies we can get.
March 5th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Vegas,
Bobby Ross? Whenever I think of him I think of him miked on the sidelines in San Diego. “We keep shooting ourselves in the feets. DadGummit.” Frickin Hilarious.
March 5th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
Yeah, but Bobby Ross is an old-school ass-kicker.
Probably 15 years past his prime, but a little fire never hurts.
But, actually Kevin Ross could be a good hire.

He’s never played RT, didn’t seem too interested. I just don’t know what he has to offer.
If they draft a tackle at 8, they’ll move him or Henderson to RT.

March 5th, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Kell,
I’m not looking at the guy as some sort of savior or something. I’m just saying at this point, what could it hurt.
Like I said earlier, the only play I even remember him on the field, he got blown up by Calvin Pace, giving up a sack and a fumble. But at least he was man enough afterward to say, put that play on me not the QB. He didn’t try to duck accountability. And, he has been a solid starter in the league in the past.
March 5th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
Why even report this coaching staff hiring?
March 5th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Hey Kell,
What did you think of the Trevor Scott move to OLB after all. As I recall you were pretty apprehensive about it at first. You compared it to the Tyler Brayton fiasco.
Me personally, I thought it went well. I’m excited to see what the kid can do with a full training camp under his belt. The guy was a little light in the pants to hold up against the run at DE. Now he is a huge OLB. The guy definitely has a knack for rushing the passer. I don’t remember any blatant mistakes in coverage.
Were you pleasantly surprised?Or indifferent.

So cute though, how you tried, then DISAPPEARED all day yesterday! Crying never hurt so good, huh fella?

Hope he can do something with lazy azz Routt since NO ONE on earth is going to offer what was tendered for his worthless sak.
Get to PRIME U Routt and do it NOW!!!
I’m thinking thy’re looking at Chris Johnson getting older and Routt taking his place on the outside where Routt feels more comfortable with the sideline as a friend.
Didn’t help him when he replaced Nnamdi and unless he steps it up we’re going to get burned par usual’ when he’s on the field.
March 5th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Dear gawd I hope the Barnes signing doesn’t mean we’re shifting Henderson to RT and plugging Barnes at LT and then NOT drafting any line men.
“With the 8th overall pick of the 2010 NFL draft the Oakland Raiders select Safety Taylor Mays…”
Fine if he can pass protect and stop the run.

March 5th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
I like us to sign J Williams instead if guys like Eugene, Morris, Routt, and R Brown.
March 5th, 2010 at 9:58 pm
Al will not draft Taylor Mays. He wants to draft him, but he can’t do it after the MM pick last year.
We would be the only team that drafts 2 1st RD Ss, a 2nd RD S, a 4th RD S, and NO OL or DL in the 1st or 2nd RD in 5 years.

Boldin dealt to Ravens
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2010 6:31 PM ET
Six years and one day after the Ravens believed they acquired Terrell Owens via trade, Baltimore has finally found a number one receiver. (At least they hope he’s a number one.)
Baltimore acquired Anquan Boldin and a fifth-round pick in 2010 in exchange for 2010 third- and fourth-round picks.
The trade compensation is more than reasonable, but a contract came with it. Boldin signed a three-year, $25 million extension on his current deal, including $10 million in guaranteed new money. He’s due $28 million over the next four years.
Boldin is a superlative locker room leader, but there was some concern in Arizona that his body has taken a pounding over the years and that he would remain injury-prone.
Derrick Mason’s future with the Ravens now looks more up in the air

Raiders need to sign Tommie Harris or Jamal Williams and then pair one of them up with Seymour on the inside.
Then they can draft a STUD pass rushing RDE like Brandon Graham, Derrick Morgan or Pierre-Paul at #8.
Or sign Kampman to play RDE and then draft an OT at #8 and then pick DT Lamar Houston in Round 2.

Ford would be a decent value pick with one of those two 3rd rounders but certainly NOT as a 2nd Rounder.

Stanford Routt is freaking stupid. Why pay him even1/3 of that salary. Jeez…
We can’t even sign Todays version of John Randle aka Richard Seymour.
Our D-line needs help, not enough depth.
Our O-line needs help, not enough good players.
I actually think Kirk Morrison is not as bad as people think. He’s actually highly regarded in the NFL and was a 2nd Alternate to the Pro Bowl. He needs more time to become a seasoned veteran. I think he should put on more weight.

Oh and I’m still waiting – but not expecting – you to someday use your little brain to think up a football topic you’d like to be schooled in.
But after giving you 3 – count ‘em 3! – chances to come up with something, you were so paralyzed by fear you decided to hide in your cubicle. Poor little poodle … Must’ve been scary, huh?!
=======================
Ah…the “feigning ignorance/confusion” reply.
The offer was for YOU to broach a topic..to MAKE IT EASY SO YOU DON’T HIDE, LIKE YOU’RE DOING NOW…so hey..no problem.
Al…:) let’s discuss Al for starters, peanut.
I think it’s scandalous on what Al did to the fans both when he came back to Alameda, on the signing day, as well as everything he did in 2002, both during Super bowl week, and following it.
How do you view all of what happened?
YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT, ASSWIPE?
Oh..then we can discuss how Al drove off John Madden, and how their final year together went, including how the players felt about it.
AGAIN, MY PERSONAL LIL BEYOTCH..ANY IDEA?
Hey…just state ‘No, I HAVE NO CLUE”..
Because you’re an idiot.
What’s rather humorous is that you consider me just posting to you as a coup for you..you can almost see your excitement.
It’s called Lil Man syndrome..but more on that later.
The challenge? lol…yeah…thought so.
March 6th, 2010 at 11:00 am
It looks as though once again, other teams are getting better while Al sits on his sub-par talent.
Can’t say as I blame him. His clear inability to judge talent cost him big last time he jumped into the free agent frenzy.
March 6th, 2010 at 11:04 am
Oh, the joy! To be greeted by my little agitated poddle, ricopet, just falling all over himself for my attention!

I knew I was deep inside your mind, little fella, but I’m proud and impressed that I truly own you THIS MUCH!
Ahhh, I just may pour a celebratory margarita!
BUT just so you know, my minion-in-training, having a complete meltdown on the blog isn’t good for my image. Remember, as my humble servant, your tiny little actions somewhat reflect on me.
And my offer still stands to teach any lessons to your kids that you realize you’re too insufficient to handle.
I’m always here to instruct and guide my future minions-to-be!
Ahhhh … the glory!
March 6th, 2010 at 11:20 am
Two players that the old man should “reach” for are either RDE Brandon Graham or OLB/MLB dynamo Sean Weatherspoon!
Spoon can play outside and inside and some teams say he might be better as a MIKE or ILB due to him having the natural leadership and vocal communication skills to get the job done and get people to rally around him and hold players accountable for being in the right place at the right time. He can pursue, hit, wrap up, fill the gaps, blitz and has a nasty attitude as well.
ALL characteristics this Raider football team needs BIG TIME! Spoon is a BEAST! He is also has speed, by running a 4.5-4.6 40 at the combine and at his pro day.
He is allegedly projected to go in the late 1st round and I kind of find that funny, because guess what…thats where all the freakin GOOD teams are drafting and they will get the players that are not as hyped and get better!
Scew that! Draft Spoon! LOL
March 6th, 2010 at 11:21 am
Trade down 5-6 spots and draft Spoon!!
March 6th, 2010 at 11:32 am
Regarding Sean Weatherspoon below:
From BSPN: The third-ranked outside linebacker parlayed his strong combine showing into a very good pro day on Thursday, including an improved 40-yard dash time. At the combine, Weatherspoon ran the 40 in 4.68 seconds and did 34 bench-press reps. At his pro day, he ran the 40 in 4.54 and 4.52 seconds and added another rep to his bench press.
^^^^^With these numbers and with his natural leadership skills and athletic ability and beast of a player, along with his versatility to play both inside and outside, can someone tell me why the hell is the alleged #3 rated OLB and not the top rated LB overall?
March 6th, 2010 at 11:57 am
That’s what I thought, Lil Beech…you can’t spell Raiders, much less discuss them.
Now..get back to the shallow end of the pool, where it’s safe.
Don’t play with the big boys, kid…you’ll just continue to get slapped down, schooled, and laughed at.
ANYTIME YOU WANT TO BORROW SOMEONE’S BALLS, you’re welcome to just ONCE CHALLENGE ME..ON ANY TOPIC YOU SO CHOOSE.

I know when you took on this challenge of serving me, you had no idea it would cause you so much anxiety and frustration. Trust me, no minion ever does!
I also know that sleeping at night has never been more difficult for you, knowing that now matter how hard you try, you can never possible full please me or meet my high standards!
But my concern, little poodle, is that you don’t hurt your tiny little paws typing out your massive meltdowns on the blog! Ouchie – it kinda stings, don’t it?
Anyway, little pet, you haven’t said a word about my generous offer to school and teach your children in the same way I’ve done to their father.

Why the Raiders suck….
Henderson allowed an NFL-worst 10 1/2 sacks last season. Last year’s starting right tackle Cornell Green is an unrestricted free agent. Green committed 12 penalties and allowed 6 1/2 sacks in 12 games.
March 6th, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Concession, flag waving speeches are so touching, aren’t they?
Where someone gets called out..challenged to put up…and they’re reduced to the above?
Your sorryass just got exposed as being a joke, and all you can come back with is that?
Oh..BTW..moron..care to explain how you backing down from a challenge, hiding from a challenge, and saying zero regarding the challenge is schooling anyone?
Honestly, is that supposed to make YOU feel better? lol…I mean…does it?
You just got insulted…you backed off from a challenge…and you actually feel better by saying “ha ha..I am a coward. But you’re talking to me..so I guess I’m not a total loser”??
That works for you? LMAO..obviously it does, because that’s exactly what you just said.
Oh..and by the way, dumbass..you also just crapped on your own shoe. You equate me posting to you as a massive achievement for you..stating “minions post to me”…
Uh….doofus? You have a massive mancrush on Kelli..and you live for him (well, now me too)..you follow him like a little sniveling puppy, just begging for a bone from him..over and over and over….so..by your own admission, he, as well, owns your sorry ass? And, by YOUR definition, you’re now his minion?
Lol…damn dude..you’re slow.
Oh..and yes, I knew that when I challenged you.
Also knew you would crap on your own shoe, if I dangled a little bait…like taking candy from a baby.
Now…go…take your purse..hike up your dress..say something stupid that you, and you alone hopes masks the fact I just slapped you down with no recourse from you, and get back to your lovefest with Kelli.

But don’t let this send you scurrying away in fear like normal, hiding under your desk or under the covers of your kid’s bunk bed!

First off all, this running away / hiding in fear / avoiding topics is not what I consider acceptable in an obedient poodle pet like yourself.

I actually almost feel compassion … then I remember how much FUN it is to laugh, laugh, laugh!! Rock and roll kicks ass, huh little pet?

Why the Raiders suck….
Henderson allowed an NFL-worst 10 1/2 sacks last season. Last year’s starting right tackle Cornell Green is an unrestricted free agent. Green committed 12 penalties and allowed 6 1/2 sacks in 12 games.
===========================
Is this right?!
Don’t forget though our line consisted of:
Henderson, Langston Walker, Chris Morris, Samson Satele, Cooper Carlisle, Cornell Green and Khalif Barnes. All of them seeing time last year.
YUCK.
Gallery was injured and out, but when he played things were better all around.
Gallery is Henderson’s best freind on the line. Hope he’s healthy in 2010 and hope we draft a Tackle with the 8th. As long as its not Campbell…

The problem with Tom Cable I think is that hes a good offensive line coach. He can teach his ideas well most likely but hes lacking in the player evaluation department. What if its possible that hes really good at teaching but his problem is that he picks scrubs to learn what hes teaching and its just translating onto the field? That has to be the case when you look at Kwame Harris, Cornell Green, Cooper Carlisle, Satele, Mario Henderson and Khalif Barnes. This guy seriously thinks he can take anybody and mold them into doing things the way he believes.
Maybe hes just picking the wrong guys to do this? If he had some real smart and talented guys to work with, we’d see a different result? Our offensive line has shown flashes of very good play and then they fall off the map at other times.
March 6th, 2010 at 2:26 pm
No problem with keeping Barnes around for depth, as long as Al will let Cable go after a “Cadillac”, hell even a “Buick” or two for the line.

Just a quick note here regarding my question to Kell:
After saying that, I realized that my comment had the potential to be misconstrued: I do not know Kell’s racial lineage, so that wasn’t a comment about black people yelling in the theater (if Kell’s black, I wasn’t aware); rather, it was a comment about old people yelling in the theater. I think it comes from memories of going to the picture show before they had the talkies… when it was expected of you to talk if you wanted to hear any voices during the film and it was socially acceptable to holler at Charlie Chaplin for doing such wacky things.
Kell knows that I’m just ribbin him about is age, though… he’s the bee’s knees.

Osgood agrees to deal with Jaguars
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 6, 2010 5:49 PM ET
Kassim Osgood picked a good team to try to get more snaps at receiver.
The former Chargers special teamer told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune that he’s agreed to a deal with the Jaguars. Terms were not disclosed.
“I’m pleased to announce J’ville is in the house!” Osgood tweeted. “The Black and Teal Man of Steel is for real!”
Well said. Jacksonville, like San Diego, likes wide receivers nice and big. Osgood rarely could get on the field on offense with the Chargers, but has a chance on Jacksonville’s wide open depth chart.
Osgood has made three Pro Bowls as a special teamer.

March 6th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Don’t get me wrong…I feel bad for Fargas if not passing his physical keeps him from playing football somewhere else but as far as the Raiders are concerned…1 scholarship player gone is improvement. There should be no excuses in not playing Bush more consistently.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:21 pm
I fully agree, Bush definitely needs more touches every game.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Justin Fargas was a great Oakland Raider. If everyone else tried as hard as him, we would be in a much better place.
Not his fault he wasn’t as talented or Cable way overused him. What was he supposed to do, not take the carries?
Thanks for your service Mr. Fargas!!!!!!!!
March 6th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
BTW, it may not be the end of Fargas.
JJ Arrington failed his physical last year for the Broncos and didn’t play. They re-signed him yesterday.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Justin Fargas was the epitome of a pro player when it came to work ethic and trying to improve his game. The issue with Mike Bush he takes HIMSELF out of games. Waaay to often. Coaches don’t like that.

March 6th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
So he can come in when Bush asks out of the game
March 6th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Well…I have a feeling Fargas will be back before the season starts unless he’s able to sign with another team by then but I’m sure the Raiders didn’t want to let him go unless Hue Jackson said, “Al…Bush needs more carries and Fargas needs to go if you want to be successful.” Then, when Jackson gets fired Al Davis can say at his next press conference how he should have never let Fargas go and its all Jackson’s fault.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Good point. Now RB is a need position going into the draft.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
So now that OT is out of the question at 8 since Cable brought his boy Barnes back, that leaves Iupati or Dan Willimas at 8.

March 6th, 2010 at 3:47 pm

March 6th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
WHY ARE RAIDERS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO BRING IN ANY NEW PLAYERS TO REPLACE THE ONES THAT BROUGHT US 5-11 LAST YEAR???
March 6th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
If Warren was let go, we could always try to sign Aaron Kampman to play RDE and move Seymour inside next to Kelly. We can still add a DT in the draft.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Fargas is a free agent
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 6, 2010 6:41 PM ET
The Oakland Raiders have released running back Justin Fargas.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Raiders made the move, which had been expected, today. Fargas was due a $1.7 million roster bonus.
The 30-year-old Fargas has played his entire seven-year career in Oakland. His best season came in 2007, when he carried 222 times for 1,009 yards.
Fargas joins a crop of free agent running backs that includes Thomas Jones, Willie Parker and LaDainian Tomlinson.

I will guarantee you AL won’t take a LG in Iuputi as 8th overall pick, Dan Williams maybe a big if, I still think AL will either take Bruce Campbell which would be huge mistake or DE Jason Pierre-Paul or DE Morgan. If AL chooses to go for a DT it won’t be Dan Williams it will be DT Brian Price, a more consistent and not too many question marks in his game.
March 6th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Or…Al would do something we all don’t expect him to do.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Kampman seems to be signed by Jacksonville, I would bring in Adewale Ogunleye if nobody goes after him or a veteran in Leonard Little who can mentor the other young DEs we got.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
I still cab’t believe Rolle fooled the Giants for less money they could have got Darren Sharper or even Ryan Clark, Rolle never did anything major, I think Branch is a better safety then him.

Jets trade Kerry Rhodes to Cardinals
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 6, 2010 6:59 PM ET
Kerry Rhodes is on the move.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the New York Jets have traded Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals for a fourth-round pick this year and a seventh-round pick next year.
For the Cardinals, they pick up a safety a day after Antrel Rolle signed with the New York Giants. For the Jets, they get rid of a safety who was unhappy with his role in the defense in 2009.
The Jets also get rid of a safety they claimed they were going to keep. General managers don’t always tell the truth.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
I think Kerry Rhodes is a good safety, give props to AZ for getting him cheap.
Btw, I heard Clayton from Espn mention that Mcnabb is available for any team that offers a second rounder, I wish we trade for him.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
4eve,
I don’t see us drafting Campbell now that Barnes is back. I’n sure Cable is going to give him every chance to play OT so where would Campbell play?
Not saying that we are going to draft Iupati, just hoping we will.
Pierre Paul or Morgan wouldn’t surprise or disappoint me at all. Seymour moving inside with Shaugnessy and one of those 2 on the outside would be fine by me.
Sleeper pick is still Dez Bryant.

Barnes resigned for one year deal, his agent probably told him no one wants him, AL never liked Barnes, its clearly Cable choice, if AL picks Campbell which is very likely, Barnes will become a backup or maybe change position just like Gallery did, he might start at RG. Of course, this is what I think but who knows, AL will do what AL wants.

March 6th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Well since Al is the one who signs the players, I have a hard time believing he would bring in a guy who could very well cause his #8 pick to sit on the bench.
Cable wanted Barnes back, and Barnes’ agent probably recommended a 1 year deal in case he wins the LT spot. It would be much more advantages for him to negotiate a contract next year coming off a starting gig at even RT.
I just don’t see Campbell regardless. Davis, Okung, and Trent Williams are consensus better players. There is not one example of Al not taking the best Olineman available with a high draft pick and going with the guy who had the best workout. I’m not buying that for a minute. If we go Oline it will be the best player left. And Iupati is better than Campbell, lol.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
Jhill
Who do you think AL would sign from the available free agents?
March 6th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
The Barnes deal makes sense for drafting a marquee LT at number 8. Henderson has done decently, not spectacularly, so the need this there. If Henderson gets hurt you do you put there? Right now Brian Bulaga is looking like a decent pick at number 8.

Hell, it wouldn’t surprise me if he isn’t brought back at some point. Maybe they are just trying to avoid paying that 1.7 mil bonus. If he is gone for good, I think he might be missed more than some may realize.

Jhill,
I was all for McClain at eight. Now, I’m having second thoughts..jumping on the Iupati bandwagon. Eight might be high for a guard but so what. The O-Line and the Run D still need addressed, since we didn’t do it last year.
Last year I wanted Rey M at seven , even over Buckeye J Laurenitis. Rey is bigger and nastier. If not Rey, my second choice was Mack at C. I would still take either of those two over DHB, even if they weren’t a “value” pick.
Since the weaknesses weren’t addressed last year I say road grading, mauler and Vandal M. Iupati at 8, and maybe Spikes in Rd. 2, if he slides. What do you think?

Fargas’ game reminds me a lot of Van Eeghen and Marv Hubbard (from days of yore). They were both gritty, determined, hard runners — neither of them would have been able to find a place in this offense. It’s too bad that Fargas will not be appreciated by many for slaving on a bunch of sucky teams.

Like you, I have been tooting McClain’s horn from the beginning. Now, I’m not so sure. I’m beginning to change my way of thinking, toward offensive line again. Bruce Campbell and the Iupati kid are both sexy picks right now, but I think the guys who are the most “game ready” are Trent Williams and/or Brian Bulaga. Davis has a lot of potential. If it were me, drafting today, I would probably go with Williams as the #8 overall (unless, of course, Okung is still on the board — I’d gobble him up in an instant!)

Both Iuputi and Campbell are pointless at number 8. Iuputi is nothing but a guard who struggles against pass protection, Campbell is the 30th overall talent, his game film is quote terrible and hasn’t received any honors in college. Campbell is basically a raw talent.
Now, Anthony Davis is legit, so is Trent Williams and if not Dez Bryant is a stud worth 8th overall pick.

March 6th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
T-Bone,
As long as the team addresses the O-line, and the Run-D, early and often, I’ll be happy. If it’s RT Trent Williams or even a project like Campbell of Maryland, over Iupati, I’ll be Ok. This draft seems deep in DT’s too. There could be 4 or 5 go in the 1st, and still some nice prospects left for Rd. 2. Fix the trenches, Al!

For the most part I don’t advocate taking a LB in the lst round, and particularly at the very top of the draft. But I think mcClain is such a rare combination of size, speed, smarts and desire in a position of need for us that it makes a lot of sense.

How about this. Is it ok to be greedy? Best of both worlds. McClain at eight. Trade 2nd and 3rd from NE to somebody mid to late first to grab Iupati. Still have own early 3rd for decent DT prospect, or maybe a project like C Black of LSU at RT or even J Arenas.

If you are going to try and trade up to get an additional first round pick, I would grab Pouncey from Florida before I would take Iupati. Our center position sucks donkey right now!

My hope is that in some way Okung falls to us at 8 and Spikes falls for us in the second round. Our DT position can be improved through free agency or late in the draft. A guy like Jay Ross can be had in the 3rd round, there are many DTs in this draft and talented enough. I hope we also get a guard mid round in the draft. Anyone knows who AL will sign in this free agency?

T-bone, our whole O-line sucks donkey right now, look at how many yards our linebackers sucseeded with this year, and years past. This is NOT a Raiders Team or Organization, just ask Fargas, blindly trying to help here, it was a lost cause, imho!
