There, I said it _ signing T.O. a good idea

T.O. a Raider?

Assuming he came at a reasonable price, there’s only one pertinent question: How fast can he get here?

Even with the admittedly loose standards of Internet journalism, the Terrell Owens-could-be-a-Raider story is a flimsy one.

But Al Davis just loves picking up Hall of Famers en route to retirement. He also doesn’t believe in chemistry, and even invoked Owens’ initials once when making his point.

Davis said he’d seen his share of difficult players, citing the fiercely independent Art Powell and calling him “The T.O. of his time.”

Here’s why bringing in Owens, even at an advanced age (36) and with diminishing skills is a good idea:

– The Raiders need a veteran receiver to mix in with the kiddie corps of Chaz Schilens, Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Unlike Javon Walker, whose conditioning was in question the moment he arrived, Owens will arrive in shape. It would do Schilens, Murphy and Heyward-Bey good to see Owens in the locker room with his shirt off, up close and personal. They wouldn’t think of taking a play off or cutting a weight room session short.

– It makes no sense to draft another wide receiver with a high draft pick, and Owens is the best receiver left in free agency. Derrick Mason (Ravens), Kevin Curtis (Texans) and Chris Chambers (Chiefs) all stayed where they were. Antonio Bryant would cost way too much money and he went to the Bengals. That leaves Laveranues Coles.

Owens caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns last season. Those numbers, with a passing game in Buffalo that was almost as bad as the one in Oakland, would have led the Raiders in every category. Raiders wideouts caught 99 passes for 1,360 yards and seven touchdowns last season combined. Owens has had better years by himself.

– Owens made it through a difficult season in Buffalo without an eruption. The Raiders got great results at the tail end of Jerry Rice’s career, and it’s worth noting that the prickly Rice was actually pleasant and easy to deal in Oakland.

I remember how it was when Owens was with the 49ers, walking through the locker room a man apart from the team, without a friend in sight. Gradually, year-by-year, Owens has picked up some supporters in the locker room who said nice things about him after he left.

– If Owens signed with the Raiders and decided he didn’t like what he saw in terms of commitment from JaMarcus Russell and decided to pop off about it, that would be a good thing, not a bad thing. There were too many diplomats on the Raiders last year, speaking in code and talking up Bruce Gradkowski as a way of emphasizing what was wrong with Russell.

– Assuming the money is right, and it doesn’t look like a lot of teams are interested in Owens at this point, you can always cut him and move on if his skills are too far gone. Just like Donovin Darius and Lorenzo Neal. The Raiders dropped at least $14 million in two years on Walker. No way Owens could approach that as a bad investment.

Warren official

The Raiders confirmed the release of defensive tackle Gerard Warren by posting it as a transaction on their Web site.

Kirk Morrison says he’s heard from teams
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 11, 2010 6:40 PM ET
It seemed like it was only a matter of time before teams started sniffing around Raiders linebacker Kirk Morrison, who will only cost a third-round pick and an offer sheet to acquire.

“There are some teams we’re looking at and we’ve talked to,” Morrison said on Sirius NFL Radio Thursday. “Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we can get something done . . . either with the Raiders or with other teams.”

There is speculation in New York the Giants could make a play for Morrison, but nothing has been confirmed. We do know that the Cardinals don’t look interested.

The Raiders would seemingly be thrilled if Morrison signs an offer sheet elsewhere.

He’s not quite persona non grata like Randy Hanson — Morrison can get his own sandwiches — but the Raiders sent a clear message that’s he’s available with their low tender.

I think T.O. here would have a therapeutic effect on Russell.

Stay in the shallow end, Bo..much safer for you.

hI Old Kell….how are you today old dude?

  • jhill

    Nah, Rockstar …

You haven’t heard from me for a while cuzz I was helping Warren pack, and get to the airport on time!

Looking like Big Dan might be coming on board, eh?

Or do you think Bryant put on that 15 lbs I was talking about?

  • Norco Bob

By the way old man, the little Polock would be tossin TO the ball,..not Russell. Keepin it real.

  • JB

    Dakota

Put me on the yes to TO list. I don’t think we really need him for his receiver skills but rather to have someone that will call out players in public for not giving a 110% effort – especially JaBustus. That might be just what it takes to turn his lazy ass around.

  • The Big Banana

One thing’s for sure. It’d be entertaining to watch T.O. and Russell throw each other under the bus.

    LOL! very nice

I hope Dan’s the man at #8 , but you know wacky ole grandpa al has his own agenda

he might toss Bryant in there at 290 lbs and ask him to play NT

Told you, Mikey, I’m on it.
After 25 plus years, all you’ve managed is the basics required to be a real estate agent..member of Calif, national, alameda assoc of realtors.

That’s basic bonehead entry level requirements.

Why accept being at the bottom of the barrel? Look at how many new realtors at Kane that already are past you?

Question is, Mikey, are you willing to get off your rather bulbous ass, and apply yourself? I’m a busy guy, and don’t have time for slackers.

    #########################################

    I’m worried about Kelli.

No business. No future. No prospects. No canvassing.

I mean, how many times can he stop by the barber shop, and discuss days of old with all the other geezers?

As a community service, I think I’m going to lobby to get him some realtor training.
When you’ve been in the industry for over a quarter of a century, and you STILL haven’t gotten past entry level in your trade?

    Something is wrong.

    Consider me your advocate, Mikey.
We’ll get you out of the gutter..with a lot of hard work, dedication, and desire.

You can thank me later, Kelli.

JaMarcus: hey T.O. whats a hyperbaric chamber?

Terrell: why don’t you come over and check it out?

JaMarcus: can I use it to heat up my Hot Pockets?

Terrell: oh…uh… have you seen Bruce anywhere?

    Big Bannana

Wishy-washy on TO = pro TO

    Make your stand clear!

  • The Big Banana

Russell – “It’s tough when receivers aren’t making plays for you”

TO – “It’s tough when your QB can’t get the ball within 15 yards”

  • The Big Banana

Dakota – I’d take him. Seems to have settled down last year and just went about his business. He’d probably come relatively cheap too.

  • jhill

With only 2 DTs on the roster, we certainly will add another. And with Gerrard Warren being the best available DT on the market, I’m hoping for Dan Williams at 8.

  • The Big Banana

And if he does decide pop off about Russell….GOOD!!!

  • RaiderRockstar

Gerrard Warren being the best available DT on the market

    ***

    sad, isn’t it?

Al Davis was a week late dropping “money” and it cost him NT’s Maake Kemoeatu & Jamal Williams in free agency

barring a trade for Marcus Stroud or something I don’t see how we could bypass a DT in the first 2 rounds!

  • Norco Bob

I did want TO,..but now that old man kell is saying its a good idea, I nowe have to rethink it,..old man kell is an old frustrated jealous man,…I dont want TO if he does,..so I am now officially off the TO bandwagon…print that kids.

  • M Lonetree

In the case of T.O., it is not an A+B=C equation. It is simpler than that.
#2 throws to #1WR = more 3 pt. tries for SeaBass

BECAUSE THE O-LINE NEEDS FIXED FIRST AND FOREMOST!!!!!

sign all the WRs you want and nothing will change. nothing. why waste the money and effort to sign another one when no one can adequately block?

  • RaiderRockstar

DE’s James Hall & Leonard Little to visit the Saints

GM Mickey Loomis says they are in the market for a DE

I wonder if they’ll eventually look at Greg Ellis?

or if Dick Seymour hits a snag in negotiations with Al we could trade him there

  • http://www.raiderfans.net Richochet

Dang…just called Kelli’s real estate office that he works for.
They haven’t seen him in a while..keep transferring me to his message center, but in spite of my desires to help Kelli out of his funk, he’s no where to be found.

Anyone know the number to his favorite barber shop hangout?

Can’t you just see Kelli, ala Eddie Murphy’s group in “Coming to America” hanging out at the barber shop dive, swapping ‘stories’? lol

  • http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/63/60563-004-52A399D4.jpg Dakota

To be honest my main concern over signing TO last March was what he might do to our young QB…well, a year latter and that young QB fuked himself by being a lazy ass POS, so I am not dead set against TO anymore.

Heck, he might at least make another bad year at least entertaining to watch.

Since Al already fuked the season by keeping Cable and Russell, why not?

  • http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antisocial-personality-disorder/DS00829 KoolKell

T.O. could make it an entertaining 5-11, at least.

This draft is deep at the DT and DE positions….so with that said an OT will most likely be taken or a RDE pass rusher with that #8 unless there is a TRADE DOWN, which never happens cause the old man is stubborn.

The 2nd round pick should be on a DT like Houston, Price, Cody or Adkins.

I would think that with Barnes and Pears on the roster, along with Henderson, Cable has the type of guys he likes to play his system.

I really seems like Dline is going to be the pick, Either Seymour is moving inside and we go DE, or DT is the pick.

I think Vegas’ angle of Oline in rd 3 is going to be about right.

Lol, since when does Cable know anything about selecting o-linemen? If anything he has proven that he should simply stick to teaching the guys provided to him by someone with a brain….too bad that guy is Al Davis…

    C Satele
    RG Cooper
    RT Barnes

are there lb’s in the 3rd round better than Morrison because we aren’t picking a lb in the first 2 rounds and do you really want Ricky Brown playing MLB instead of Morrison?

    Time is running out, Al.
Fans need a reason to believe. Getting rid of starters from a bad team, and not replacing them isn’t the exact way to instill confidence.

Looking at the schedule, Colts, Houston, Rams, Miami, plus division, there isn’t any games that are going to warrant fan turnout…

Better hope for a Monday night game, where the station snatches up tickets, like last year, or it will be 15 straight blackouts.

    Nice legacy you’re leaving Al.

    FU LJ!

    So much for L.J.
Former Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed with the Redskins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, which means he won’t be visiting the Raiders on Sunday as reported by profootballtalk.com.

That’s fine just the same. If the Raiders really needed a veteran running back, they could have just kept Justin Fargas instead of cutting him last week. He’s still available, by the way, after visits this week with the Chiefs, Browns and Eagles.

What Oakland needs to do is just hand the running chores over to Darren McFadden and Michael Bush and see what happens. Bringing in a veteran player with issues isn’t the best way to move this offense and locker room forward.

If Redskins coach Mike Shanahan can squeeze production out of L.J.’s legs, more power to him in the NFC East.
