Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren is having a busy day trading away former first-round draft picks.

In addition to trading 2007 first-round pick Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos, Holmgren also traded 2006 first-round pick Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders.

Adam Caplan of Scout.com first reported the trade.

The Browns selected Wimbley, an outside linebacker, out of Florida State with the 13th overall pick in 2006. He burst onto the scene as a rookie with 11 sacks and has started every game but two in his four years in Cleveland, but he hasn't been quite lived up to the promise he showed as a rookie.

There's no word yet on what the Raiders sent to the Browns in exchange for Wimbley

Taking Bulaga or Anthony Davis @ #8 and then grabbing one of the solid Dlinemen in the 2nd (Alualu, Cam Thomas or preferably Lamarr Houston) would be a nice way to begin the draft. Of course if Rolando McClain is sitting there at 8....

Matt Shaughnessy is a classic Tom Cable guy. Over achieving, high motor, loves the game type of guy with not the greatest athletic skill set. The high motor type of guys we have haven't seen here since Howie.

# SnB offense defense specialteams Says:
March 14th, 2010 at 1:35 pm

Let’s hope decisions are rendered for Tommy Kelly (overpaid), Michael Huff (overpaid), Cooper Carlisle, Samson Satele.
************************
Whether Kekky is overpaid or not ius not really all that important unless it's from YOUR checkbook. We need beef in the middle and right now, aside from Seymore & Bryant we have no one else. Kelly just needs to play more to his ability and he'll be fine especially if we can put Suh in there next to him. As far as Huff goes, again the same comment about being overpaid as before. Besides, I thought he was really starti g to turn the corner this last year and playing to his ability. Carlisle & Satele are another story. Carlisle is out of gas. Satele is back-up quality at best. Both need to be relegated to the back-up position or the street. We need, this year, a new ORT, ORG, C & MLB. Whether they come from FA or the draft, I don't care. We just need to address the lines and MLB and stay away from WR, RB & other so called skill positions. REBUILD THE LINES and good things will happen.

I would love to see Dan Williams on our roster but not for the No8 pick. Not enough position value - better to take an OT and use the 2nd round pick on a DT (Atkins, Cody, Thomas).

If we could trade down five/six/seven slots and get an extra low 2nd or high 3rd, then Williams becomes the right pick.

Vegas Raider,

The Fargas, Bush, DMAC debate is mute now. Raiders and Hue Jackson rightly made the decision.

My biggest argument against the Raider roster is that it is full of players that are marginal NFL players and certainly not starters.

Gerard Warren, Justin Fargas, Terdell Sands, Stuart Schweigart, Kwame Harris, Ronald Curry, Jerry Porter….and others…guys that we relied on as starters that could barely hand on in the league..let alone start.

The Raiders, and Tom Cable in particular, over-rate talent.
===================================================

Every single one of the guys you mentioned pre dated Cable with the exception of Kwame Harris who actually came here on Kiffins watch. And Cable was the one who got rid of him.

Vegas Raider,

Trading up is not an option. Suh and McCoy are 3-techs, a need, but if TK is staying, then you aren't trading up.

Williams is the gap stuffer. Different skillset in my opinion. Don't need to move up to get him.

Seymour should stay at DE. He anchors the edge, a problem that was so bad that Davis had to trade for SEymour at the 11th hour.

Not sure I want to see a 1st round DE in Oakland. Sounds like another opportunity to get wowed by 40x

Bush and DMAC are fine as RBs. RBs need carries to produce. Check out Bush's stats when he gets 10+ carries...which was rare.

DMAC, a home run hitter, needs more cuts at the plate to hit those homeruns.

Fargas was a singles hitter and guy to hit a sac-fly...but not a guy to throw the game on his back to win.

Let's hope decisions are rendered for Tommy Kelly (overpaid), Michael Huff (overpaid), Cooper Carlisle, Samson Satele.

Vegas

I understand what you arre saying but we need linemen this year and this draft is full of them. By giving up 2 extra bodies this year and not getting to draft until the 3rd round next year (by giving next year's 2nd away), we'll never get our O-liune problem resolved. I'd rather take one future hit (i.e 2012's #1 pick) and hope that these moves make it unnecessary to really worry about the single #1 hit in 2012. Besides, by the second round most of the sub 4.4 players are gone and we are less apt to get blindsided by that year's best track star pick by AD.
