Rumors persist about Asomugha to Eagles in trade for McNabb

An ESPN report Friday said that the Raiders are “open” to including cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha as part of the compensation in a trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

The Raiders, for their part, said there’s nothing to the report, which came on the heels of a ProFootballTalk.com post Thursday that floated the idea. The two Raiders employees also maintained that they are unaware of the Raiders even contacting the Eagles about McNabb.

A Yahoo! Sports report said that Asomugha’s representatives shot down the notion that Asomugha would be part of a deal for McNabb. Then again, the Raiders could make a trade that includes Asomugha without his knowledge because he doesn’t have a no-trade clause.

McNabb’s agent, Fletcher Smith, told the Philadelphia Daily News on Friday that the Eagles and McNabb haven’t discussed a trade. Again, they don’t have to do so.

What’s it all mean? Not much until someone other than Smith puts his name to one of the myriad quotes attributed to unnamed sources. Until then, it’s all just part of the typical offseason banter native to the slow part of the NFL offseason.

That doesn’t mean McNabb won’t be traded, and it doesn’t mean that he won’t wind up with the Raiders at some point. The Raiders are far from set at quarterback with JaMarcus Russell, Charlie Frye and Bruce Gradkowski.

McNabb would provide an instant upgrade for the Raiders and take pressure off Russell from performing at a level much higher than he did last season or in 2009 when he was the unquestioned starter.

The Raiders have plenty of ammo to pull off a trade for McNabb, especially if the asking price is a second- or third-round draft pick. But trading Asomugha just doesn’t make much sense from the Raiders standpoint, given they are more than a 33-year-old, worn-down quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff contender. They would need both McNabb and Asomugha, as well as a few more proven veterans.

STEVE I DO NOT THINK LOSMAN IS WITH THE TEAM ANYMORE I LAST HEARD HE IS ON HIS WAY BACK TO THE UFL

  • SteveAlford21

    Fat Kidd,

That would be the first that I’ve heard of such a thing, but it could be true.

If you don’t mind me asking a favor of you, would you please stop posting in all caps, if you don’t mind… it’s bothersome to many folks in the eye department.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

U folks are full of it.

You criticize JLH for his 19 carries, most in the last half of the year.

Yet excuse the pitiful, pathetic inexcusable 9 freekn receptions by DHB

All he has is a 40 time. That’s it. At least I have seen JLH take one to the house… a few to the house…

DHB jump catches everything and is not worth a 1st round pick.

This team is garbage right now. Why? Many of you, like the owner, overrate middling talent. Real talent produces.

Okay! Harvin, Crabtree, Maclin, Britt…that’s what a 1st rounder is supposed to do.

    Our 1st rounders….still need a vet QB to mentor in the FOURTH FREEKN YEAR!…..Production is Chris Johnson…not DMAC! Productin is Maclin, Crabtree, Britt, Harvin, Knox…not 9 freekn receptions from DHB;

Now we have people saying that Gradkowski the Gym-Rat is a better option than McNabb.

The only thing consistent around here is losing.

Jidging talent is the 1st step.

Oh, the run defense stinks too! and you fix the run defense by fixing the D-Line first…not the linebackers.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

And for the Michael Bush haters…check out his numbers when the baffoon coaching staff gives him 10 or more carries.

    Do you guys like losing?

  • fat kidd

i heard that losman considered the nfl free agency market a bunch of bs so he figures he has a better chance of starting in the ufl and has signed with the las vegas team

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

JP losman is the next best option on the roster…certainly better than the Gym-Rat or JaDavis

  • SteveAlford21

    SnB,

THANK YOU! Someone else finally recognizes that a new MLB won’t be worth crap against the run without a DT upgrade FIRST!

I am a UK fan, so I have feared Bush and hated seeing him in a jersey that wasn’t MY team’s color for years. If not for breaking his leg, he was a sure 1st rounder. Despite the fumbles, I still love him and want him to be the feature back… with some lessons on ball-security. The only way he could lose the job (in MY mind) would be if McFadden put on a ton of thickness in the lower body and learned to protect the ball, but he’d have to hit the gym hard to get enough weight on.

I still have faith in JLH as a PR and still like him as a situational receiver. If he can get his mind right and chase out the ghost that lines up across from him every down, he should be fine. We have to start throwing him some other passes besides slants, though… opposing Ds know exactly what he’s going to do every time he lines up on offense. Nevertheless, I would rather have a scared JLH on the field than stonehands DHB. I hope that JLH can get back in the zone this year and that DHB can learn how to get his hands in correct position, watch the ball into the catch, and maintain correct posture through the action this season. If those things can happen, I think they will both be fine. Having said that, I still would prefer JLH until DHB can find a way to PROVE that he can consistently perform at the required level.

    Fat Kidd,

As of the evening of March 28th, J.P. Losman is still an Unrestricted Free Agent with the Oakland Raiders and has NOT returned to the UFL.

  • fat kidd

last year i did not want al davis to draft crabtree because i told my son he would be a holdout and i was right, dhb i have not given up on and would like to see what happens with a another year under his belt

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    SteveAlford,

Too many fans watch the ESPN highlights. Show me a beast linebacker that doesn’t have a beast D-Line. People want to get by on the D-Line. tHat’s why the praise for guys like Gerard Warren and Terdell Sands…or the excuses for Tommy Kelly.

D-Line gets it started. they occupy blockers and disrupt running lanes….our guys don’t do that because they are, for the most part, penetrating pass rushers 1st…and run defenders a distant 5th.

Sure, watch the clips and see a Ray Lewis or Harrison running around making plays…yet neglect the lineman up front.

The singular focus on skill position players is the reason why the Raiders are the softest defense in the NFL…teams look forward to running the ball right down the middle on this team…and when you give up 157 yds per game…you don’t stand a chance!

Back to ESPN to watch those 80 yard bombs…60 yard runs, 80 yd intereption returns and linebackers making big hits in the flats!

LOS ANGELES — Forced to choose between being an NFL backup or a starter in a fledgling league, J.P. Losman has taken playing time.
Losman, 28, said Tuesday night he has signed with the Las Vegas entry of the start-up United Football League, where he will be coached by former Giants boss Jim Fassel. He immediately becomes the league’s marquee player, a former first round pick who was Buffalo’s starting quarterback 33 times over the past four seasons.
J.P. Losman has signed an undisclosed, one-year contract with the Las Vegas UFL franchise.
    An unrestricted free agent

  • SteveAlford21

    Fat Kidd,

Regarding your post #813: WHEN is that article dated?

  • SteveAlford21

    Fat Kidd,

See how that article of yours says “start-up United Football League” and “was Buffalo’s starting quarterback 33 times over the past four seasons” in there? Yeah, that article that you posted was from at least a year ago. I don’t know if you’re trolling or confused, but I highly doubt that it’s innocent confusion, because the article that you posted HAS TO have had a date on it… so you’ve got to be trolling or somehow retarded enough to not look at the date on an article about a player on the roster signing elsewhere.

  • fat kidd

03-16-2010, 02:48PM Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye signed their tenders with the Raiders today; Tom Cable says Gradkowski will compete with Jamarcus Russell for the starter’s job (yep, they still haven’t realised he’s Akili Smith v2.0.)

Could be good news for the Locos as it may make JP Losman returning more likely. It looks like at best JP will be competing for a clipboard holding job in Oakland.

  • SteveAlford21

    Fat Kidd,

AGAIN, you’ve completely avoided the question and given info that makes it appear that JP isn’t with the team. I’ll ask it again:

WHAT WAS THE DATE ON THE ARTICLE THAT YOU JUST POSTED?

Let’s say Dmac learns to hold on to ball he still isn’t breaking any tackles he still isn’t any every down back, College is College. Tired of always waiting for 1 rd to produces instead of stepping right in . Yeah I’m sure at age 21 DHB will finally learn to catch a football, those are set skill you should already have and wasn’t 1 of Cable’s reason for DHB pick was he came from pro style O and would fit right in.

    Priest,

Trent Williams was a pretty darned good right tackle at Oklahoma, but struggled quite a bit against quicker defensive ends when moved to the left side. He played in the spread offense as well.

The most athletic and ZBS-ready tackle in this draft is Charles Brown from USC, and virtually every scout in the business agrees that this is so, and that he’s a sure first rounder. USC runs the ZBS, and if selected Brown could step in and play immediately.

As I’ve said before, I don’t think Al is going to take a tackle in the first round because Mario is his LT and he can find a RT prospect later on. I would like to see Mike Johnson from Alabama in Oakland. Top-rated ZBS guard in the draft, and should be there when we pick in the third.

Maurkice Pouncey in the first. Not a reach if he’s a future Pro Bowler, and virtually everyone that rates o-linemen thinks he will be.

  • RaiderRockstar

    ET:

Maurkice Pouncey & Mike Johnson would be great additions to the O-Line, but both neglect our two biggest weaknesses imo.

    NT & OT.

I think there is a chance that either Bruce Campbell or Charles Brown drop to Round 2 at #39

This week I’m on nightshift so it’s easier to post at this time of day.

Good morning Rockstar (you rabble-rouser, you)…

Charles Brown won’t make it out of the first round. Don’t know if you’ve seen him play or not, but you should look him up if you get a chance. There was a good clip on YouTube awhile back that showed highlights (and lowlights as well) of the top tackle prospects back-to-back, and Brown is very impressive.

Campbell I don’t know as much about, but he didn’t look nearly as good to me as Brown did.

I haven’t forgotten about RT or NT. I’m not one for mock drafts, but if I did one I would have Pouncey in the first, Cam Thomas in the second, Johnson in the third and maybe a Kyle Calloway from Iowa or Mike Tepper from Cal (both ZBS tackles) in the fourth if we can somehow get a fourth round pick (or even another third). There are two fullbacks that I like; John Connor from Kentucky and Rashawn Jackson from Virginia. Would want to make sure I grabbed one of those two. I’d love to have a different MLB, but I think we’re stuck with Morrison.

    For what it’s worth…

    morning AMers.

came across a dusty script over the weekend entitled “The Meditations of jaMarcus Russellius”. here are some excerpts.

-it is so tiring to be the focus and saviour of the Nation. thus only the Emperor knows.

-the boos and catcalls and criticisms of me by the masses and the media simply show their ignorance of the Emperor’s plight. it demonstrates their smallness and as I am a large man I will not engage them.

-it is a small man who blames difficulties and failures on others. but as I am a large man I am allowed to do so. inept coaches, poor blockers and bad receivers are the Emperor’s bane.

-many since olden times have said that gold does not make the man. they did not know about “bling”.

-I like kilograms. I weigh 125 kg. yeah, I like that.

-blessed are the fortunate creatures who have died to clothe me in their fur.

-blessed are the slaves who have mined the diamonds that adorn me.

-blessed is Mr Davis for making me rich.

-blessed is Coach Cable for keeping me on the sideline where I wouldn’t be injured (did you see what happened to those two small pretenders to the throne when they were sent upon the field?).

-blessed is the NFL for directing a system that allowed me to turn one college game into a lifetime of wealth.

-blessed are the pretty little thangs who give themselves to me and tell me I am the largest man alive.

-it is sad to think that there are those who declare me to be stupid and lazy and fat. it grieves me to remind their small jealous(I am already effortlessly richer than all of my critics)minds that I am not stupid (wonderlic 24!) nor lazy (I am biding my time – afterall, why work when you’ve hit the lottery?) nor fat (125 kg!).

-it has been said since the beginning of time that pride is a vice of a small man. I am a large man.

    Emperor jaMarcus Russellius

    Hey Rockstar,
I think the riot is inevitable…soon!
Wasted years, draft picks, veteran signings, etc…
Last season was the first season that we didn’t even sell out even on Sunday when we usually do (except for that Monday nighter). Whether that is directly due to the economy (I doubt) or everyone is just purely tired of the old man!!!
Oh, another wasted year and the riots will be there!!!
