I don’t think trading our first round pick for a second this year and a first next year is a very good deal AT ALL!
I would rather have a player now, and deal with the 2011 draft when it gets here. This team needs talent NOW, not later.
March 30th, 2010 at 9:10 am
You guys do know that Andy Ried’s quote on the matter was “teams are ENTERTAINING us with offers for McNabb”.
Ried is LAUGHING at the offers he’s getting for McNabb.

Im not thrilled with the deal as much as the Raiders being open to the possibility of trading down.
Al will fugg up the 8 pick anyway so whats the big deal?
March 30th, 2010 at 9:15 am
How about this scenario?
Trade Huff and a late rounder for McNabb. Then draft Berry.

Raiders’ first pick in demand
As the Raiders reportedly look to trade for another veteran Pro Bowler, they are getting every opportunity to get back the premium pick they traded away in a similar deal last year.
An unnamed team has offered the Raiders a second-round pick this year and a first-round pick next year in exchange for the Raiders’ No. 8 overall pick. (Well, the team has a name, but our league source wouldn’t share).
That deal would allow the Raiders to get back in the 2011 first round after giving their pick to the Patriots in the Richard Seymour deal. (Lockout or not, there will be a draft next year, reportedly).
At least one other team has offered to swap spots with the Raiders. Perhaps this is evidence that the 2010 class is as good as advertised. People actually want back in the top-10 again.
So why haven’t the Raiders bit?
The Raiders simply do not have a history of trading down from its first-round perch. They’ll trade the spot away for a star player (Seymour, Randy Moss) but Raiders owner Al Davis doesn’t have a track record of moving down the order for another pick.
So what does this have to do with Donovan McNabb?
According to reports, the Eagles would want a top-42 pick for McNabb. The Raiders currently pick 39th in the second round. Let’s assume that’s what it would take.
If the Raiders were to accept the aforementioned draft trade, here’s what it could mean: they could give Philly their No. 39 pick, then use the other team’s second-round pick in April. And, instead of picking No. 8 overall in this draft, they’d have a first-round pick in next year’s draft. Nothing lost, just deferred.
Whatever the case with McNabb, if the Raiders want to trade their way back into the 2011 first round, they have been given at least one opportunity to do so.
** All this reminded me of the last time Davis spoke, after the Seymour trade. A reporter started to ask his thoughts of a rookie scale in 2011 even though he wouldn’t have a pick in the class, when Davis got a bit agitated.
“Don’t say we won’t pick in 2011. You’re wrong, you’re wrong, didn’t the 49ers take the first with Staley and the next year didn’t they do it again this year? So don’t make statements.”
** He said something else that could apply to these “alleged” talks with the Eagles. By giving up a first-round pick for a player in the last year of his contract, Davis suggested he was willing to do whatever it takes to get the player he wants.
“Sometimes you’ve got to overpay to get what you want,” Davis said in September. “But I didn’t overpay. I don’t think that’s overpaying at all. Sometimes you have to, you don’t always win the battle, the idea is to get the player.”
So, if McNabb is the player he wants to get, he will get him soon enough.
** One more thing: wonder why the Raiders haven’t leaked a word on this McNabb story?
“It’s usually a conversation with me on any trade,” Davis said in September. ‘Nuf said.

What is Corkran supposed to do? He reports what he is told to report, whether it is accurate or not and maybe he is not privy to the info that I have. Unlike Corkran, I don’t have to answer to anyone. I am not a journalist that has just been fed the company line.
I am just passing on info that has been passed onto me. The info I get from my friend has been reliable in the past although not always right on the money. For instance I kept hearing that a new HC was coming in to replace Cable and that just turned out to be the Hue Jackson hiring.
I am not saying McNabb is a solid deal that is going to happen for sure, what I am saying is that the Raiders are STILL VERY MUCH IN PLAY for McNabb’s services.
March 30th, 2010 at 9:16 am
Get McNabb here ASAP!!!!
March 30th, 2010 at 9:17 am
Reid is a great OC, but he is not a great HC IMHO. He is too Pass Happy, and doesn’t run often which makes them one dimensional.
March 30th, 2010 at 9:17 am
Why would the Eagles want to get rid of a Pro Bowl QB for Vick or Kolb? That makes no sense. This is all a posturing since McNabb’s cotract is up.
NO WAY they go with Vick over McNabb, who is also on a 1 year deal. And do you really think Kolb is ready?
HIGHLY unlikely McNabb is even on the block.
I’m sure the Raiders will take him if the Eagles are dumb enough to give him away.

long in tooth and lost a step and a half McNabb is an upgrade, but with Cable’s inability to evaluate O-line talent, the diabled list, Donovan’s place, would seem a foregone conclusion.

then it’s a huge slap in the face for their franchise QB since ‘99
either way, it’s not good for the team.
they drafted Kevin Kolb to be their QB of the future and he’s in the last year of his contract. I’m sure they probably want to see what they have in him.
the city of Philly never really embraced or appreciated McNabb anyways. They are getting younger. Tra Thomas, Jon Runyan gone last year. McNabb & Westbrook this year. Trotter, Dawkins, Darren Howard on defense.

Two Raiders reporters tell the Associated Press that the team “hasn’t even spoken” to the Eagles about Donovan McNabb.
NFL Network, Yahoo, and ESPN all say Oakland is the front-runner to land McNabb. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted Monday that Al Davis and McNabb are both Syracuse alumni, and McNabb is a distant cousin of new Raiders play-caller Hue Jackson. The Raiders employees, however, “scoffed” at the reports to the AP, and claimed Nnamdi Asomugha isn’t available for trade.

No worries bro, I should throw out a disclaimer with all of my postulations. As far as Corkran, and other so called journalists, they pretty much have their hands tied as far as being fed inside info from the team.

He also dropped some passes early in drills before settling down and “getting into the flow.” Though Bryant’s game tape remains elite, the forty times are mediocre and may do nothing to stem the tide of his slipping draft stock. He remains likely to be the first receiver off the board, however.

He also had 76 catches for 800 yards last year on a run-happy Dolphins team with no QB.

If the Raiders did the deal where they gave up there 1st round pick this year in exchange for a 2nd rounder and a 1st in 2011, it would make total sense. It would make it easier to have more money to sign Seymour and Mcnabb, as opposed to giving tons of $$ to the #8 pick. Hopefully by 2011 there will be a rookie salary cap and that will save us even more money.

Some rival NFL executives already consider new Eagles GM Howie Roseman a “shakedown artist” due to the exorbitant original asking prices on his quarterbacks, according to Yahoo Sports’ Michael Silver.
Roseman never seemed likely to deal Kevin Kolb, but the second-round asking price for Michael Vick and the “first-round plus extras” for Donovan McNabb were ludicrous from the outset. The Eagles’ first-time GM now appears desperate to move McNabb to any team that will help him save face, even if it means sending the long-time franchise icon to football’s version of Siberia with Al Davis. Gaither could be available for less than first round pick
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 29, 2010 8:53 PM ET
Time is running out for teams to sign restricted free agent Ravens tackle Jared Gaither to an offer sheet, but he may be available for less than his first round tender.
NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, citing two Ravens sources, said Monday an offer of a “high second round” pick would get a team’s foot in the door.
La Canfora suggests the Redskins as a possibility. If Washington didn’t draft a tackle in the first round, they could potentially send their second round pick for Gaither.
There would be no April 15 deadline to sign Gaither to an offer sheet because it would be a straight trade.
By all accounts, Gaither played like a quality starting left tackle last year. That’s why it’s surprising Baltimore seems so open to moving him.

How about this.
Depending on the position of the draft of the team offering the Raiders their 2nd rounder this year and a 1st next year….the old man needs to make that deal ASAP!
Then he would have moved down maybe 10 spots in the 1st Round minimum hopefully, then have an extra 2nd Rounder to use as trade bait along with being able to offer T Howard or K Morrison or Nnandi in a deal for McNabb.
They can still get an O-Tacke like Charles Brown with that new middle 1st Round pick, and then can use the on of those 2nd rounders on a power back who can catch the ball out of the backfield and play some FB like Gerhardt, with one of those 2nd Rounders and if they don’t trade the other 2nd Rounder they can go DT with that other 2nd rounder and then go Center or MLB in the 3rd Round.
TRADING DOWN provides the Raiders more options and flexibility to fill holes and add important pieces to the team!

It seems that the smart teams are stocking UP on picks in this draft. This is the best draft I have seen in the last 5 years maybe longer. Notice teams like Philly that are perennially in it, acquiring picks, and teams that can’t finds their asses (Buffalo, Oakland) dishing out their picks.

As it turns out, Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant showed up on time for his Pro Day workout.
His cleats, however, didn’t make the trip.
We’re told that Bryant forgot to bring his cleats, and that as a result he had to wear a pair of brand-new shoes, which had not properly been broken in.
As a result, Bryant was slipping, as NFLN’s Mike Mayock pointed out when discussing the workout on the air.
Per a league source, at least one team measured Bryant’s times in the 40-yard dash at 4.57 and 4.62 seconds, within the 4.52 to 4.68 range reported by NFL.com. He presumably would have run faster, but for the slipping.

March 30th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Hmm…I am becoming far more intrigued with the possibility of the Raiders picking Center/Guard combo Maurkice Pouncey with that #8 pick.
Pounceys stock is rising fast and he is the best Center/Guard combo in the draft….hands down! He is much more athletic and a better technician than Iupati without a doubt.
He is 6′4, 310, has long arms and would add much needed POWER and VERSATILITY in the middle of that Raider O-Line.
Picking Pouncey at #8 would be an excellent pick IMO!
Then the old man can still draft a O-Tackle in Kyle Calloway or Richmond in Rounds 3 or 4.
March 30th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Also, Oakland’s supporting cast is not exactly playoff ready. The offensive line is a major project, and McNabb, who will turn 34 in November, is not as nimble as he once was. His running numbers have decreased over the years and the injuries have mounted. McNabb has played a full season just four times in 11 seasons and has missed 17 games in the past five seasons. Could McNabb survive and be an effective player with Oakland’s offensive line? If not, Oakland’s skill-position players would have a difficult time bailing out McNabb. Oakland’s receivers are green and prone to dropping the ball, and the running game has been inconsistent.
It would be a tad unfair and naïve to think McNabb would be able to carry Oakland’s offense at this point.

It’s comments like this that tell me that it’s too early to give up on our young QBs Russell and Gradkowski.
When you look at this team in the non Jamarcus Russell context, it’s pretty clear that the offense just flat out was bad REGARDLESS of Russell.

Sure, that applies…to most.
Doesn’t desire rank up at the top, though?
Does the rest really matter when desire and self-motivation are absent?
Whether rumors are true, or not, regarding current weight, and off-season regiments of JR, it’s a contract year, which even the least motivated know that to get a signature on the dotted line, you need to give the impression you actually give a damn.
Has any player EVER been a success who waited until their 4th year, a contract year, to actually start putting in the effort.
None that I can recall.

RAIDERS NEW QB
The coach finally had put-together the perfect team for the Oakland Raiders. Only thing missing was a good quarterback. He’d scouted all the colleges, and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn’t find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win.
Then one night while watching Fox News, he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan . In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan Muslim soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand- grenade straight-into a
15-story window 100-yards away.
KAH-BOOM!!!
He threw another hand-grenade 75-yards away, right into a chimney !!!
KAH-BLOOEY!!!
Then he threw another one at a passing car doing 90 mph — BULLS -EYE! “I’ve GOT to get this guy!”, the coach said to himself. “He has the perfect arm!”.
So he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football. And the Raiders go on to win the Super Bowl.
The young Afghan is hailed as the great hero of football. And, when the coach asks him what he wants, all that the young man wants is to call his mother!
“Mom!”, he screams into the phone, “I just won the Super Bowl!”.
“I don’t want to talk to you”, the old Muslim woman says, “You are NOT my son!”.
“I don’t think you understand, Mother”, the young man pleads, “I’ve just won the greatest sporting event in the WORLD! I’m here among thousands of my adoring fans!!!”.
“NO!! Let me tell you!”, his mother sharply retorts. “At this very moment there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn’t get raped!”.
The old lady pauses, then tearfully says, “I will never, EVER forgive you for making us move to Oakland”.

Do the Raiders really think that Stanford Routt is the answer opposite Nnamdi (given his 1st and 3rd round tender)? He seems to be a one may PI machine… unless he’s giving up a TD
1:11 jerrymac: that happens to be Routt’s philosophy about PIs, by the way. He says you don’t worry about ‘em, don’t care about him. And you’re never bothered by them. You play your game, and if they call it, they call it.

That’s a great philosophy Stanford. Just don’t care about them PI’s and ejections. Just keep playing your game, lol.

After seeing the old man Al’s weird trend recently….I would have said Campbell as of last month, but who knows now?

March 30th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
What is a reach and what isn’t a reach is all subjective.
Pouncey is the best Center and Guard in this draft and the highest and #1 overall rated at BOTH the Center and Guard positions.
The Center position in the NFL is just as important as having a good LT on that O-Line.
Every teams draft board is different and if the Raiders value having a solid Center, than why not get the highest rated overall at #8 instead of having him go to a better team between picks 11-18??
Not that much of a reach if you think about it and nothing compared to a REAL reach like drafting DHB last year certainly was.
Picking Pouncey at #8 would be GREAT value IMO!
March 30th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
DKnight…there is a list for who you want, the choice that you believe might be available, and would help out the team at #8.
Then there is a list of who you think Al will take, being Al, for whatever reason.
For the “Who AL WILL PICK list, pick two…one you think he might take with a mild brain fart, and another that you think he’ll take after an all night binge, along with the brain fart.
What will be really funny is if NO ONE picks it, lol…which very well could happen.
Work calls…

If this does happen they should wait until draft day, no reason to pull the trigger on this futility strike anyway.
Vote NO on Mcnabb….

An ideal scenario would be for Claussen to catch fire and either go at 4, or have someone willing to trade up with us to get him.
I think Bradford, Claussen, Berry, McCoy, Suh, and Okung could all be gone before we pick. Dez Bryant, Pierr Paul, and Joe Haden are also in line to go before we pick.
We are going to have some pretty good players on the board when we pick. Pouncey? Interesting thought process.

Nope. No way Al does that…who cares about a pick in 2011? There might not even be football in 2011! Get the player now and worry about 2011 later.
If someone wants to move up to 8, they better give us their 2010 first rounder + additional picks. None of this delayed compensation BS.

Eagles officials say that multiple teams have made offers for McNabb, and if there had been an offer that met their expectations they would have made a trade by now.
Reports of a #2 are inaccurate because players are involved so far, so the Eagles will take a lesser rd pick for the right player.

????????
Why would he need to be “franchised” after this year? He’d get paid the average of the top 5 CBs in the League in 2011 his last year of his current contract and Davis is always good at getting players to re work.
Its obvious people who things like “Nnamdi’s peaked” don’t watch every Raider game.
I watched nearly all of the Jets games last year and yeah, Revis is the truth, but Nnamdi is the best CB in the game.
He’s the most complete DB in the game, great man coverage, intelligent, great tackler and a great Raider.
Trade him on Madeen but not in reality.
DBs are the “corner” stone of Davis’s pass rush / cover D and Nnamdi’s the poster child for Al’s rare conversion successes.
No way he gets traded and no way we should.

Per NFL.com, if the Raiders choose to keep Asomugha for the third year of the deal he would be paid the average of the top five highest-paid cornerbacks or $16.875 million – whichever is greater. If the Raiders don’t want to pay Asomugha that much, he would become a free agent and the Raiders could not use the franchise tag on him.

In the history of the Raiders, AD has picked 10 O-linemen & 8 D-linemen as his first pick. That equates to 36% of the time a lineman of either the defense or offense has been his first choice. Let’s hope it’s time, this entire draft, to pick linemen across the board/ It’s time to really beef up the lines. Maurike Pouncey, C should be our #1 pick this time around.

a few years back I was cheering like a kid when the first two choices for the Raiders were the top-rated offensive tackle (Gallery) and the top-rated center (Grove).
ahem, cough, oh well…
the crapshoot
************
Gallery turned out to be a very good Guard. Grove, well that’s another story. Satelle is no better. The mop handle is gone, Carlisle is way past his prime. Henderson may be ok but the vote is not in yet. Actually, he may be better on the right side. Who really knows about Barnes? Forget Pears. Morris is ok as a backup spot player only. Walker could possibly work out at the guard position. We are in most need of a Barrett Robbins type center – that’s Pouncey!.

Source: McNabb talks may go until draft
By Sal Paolantonio
The Philadelphia Eagles are continuing trade discussions with a number of teams about trading quarterback Donovan McNabb and those discussions could continue until draft day, a senior team official told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio on Tuesday.
“There is no so-called front-runner,” the senior team official said. “We continue to engage in conversations with multiple teams that initially contacted us. Some of the offers involve draft picks, some involve a player, some involve many players. We are evaluating the offers. But if some team had totally blown us away, we would probably have made a deal already.”
League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday that the Oakland Raiders have emerged as the leading candidate to land McNabb in a trade.
The league sources told Schefter all the ingredients for a trade are in place. Of all the teams the Eagles have spoken with, the Raiders have been the most willing to meet the Eagles’ asking price.
A league source told Paolantonio the discussions focus on McNabb, although a number of teams are still calling about backup Kevin Kolb. The source said the Eagles are no longer shopping Michael Vick.
Also, the team official said there is no magic number in the draft that would be required to make a deal for McNabb. Late last week, there was an Associated Press report the Eagles wanted at least the 42nd pick in the draft for McNabb. “That’s not true,” the team official said.
Sources told Schefter McNabb’s contract, which has one year and $11.2 million left on it, scared off other teams. But, the sources said, Oakland is not concerned that McNabb is due a $6.2 million roster bonus on May 5 nor that the quarterback is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2010 season.
At the league meetings, head coach Andy Reid said the Eagles were listening to offers for all three quarterbacks, including 11-year veteran McNabb, who quickly said on his Web site that he wanted a quick resolution to the trade conversations.
But the Eagles are intent on moving deliberately. Trading McNabb has proved to be tricky because of his age — he will be 34 in November — and the fact that he is in the last year of his contract and wants a lucrative long-term extension.

March 30th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Cable needs to reassess his criteria on what a top lineman really is. He too easily settles for less than top level players. Some say the ZBS allows a team to use players of less ability. Cable has used this fact in selecting 2nd tier linemen. He needs to stock upon top level linemen. If 2nd tier players make ZBS good, then great players should make it great. Tom Cable, quit settling for 2nd best talent! Maybe therein lies your problem.
Take Pouncey @ #8.

Maurkice Pouncey
TOP RATED NFL DRAFT SCOUT CENTERS: *Maurkice Pouncey, Florida, 6-5, 304, 1-2: Winner of the 2009 Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top center, Pouncey plays with a nasty disposition and delights in putting defenders on their backs. His toughness was reflected before the Sugar Bowl when he had to receive treatment for kidney stones hours before kickoff but played. Although he left Gainesville a year early, Pouncey has shown enough to be ranked the top center prospect in this draft. Coaches rave about his field intelligence and ability to make all of the offensive line calls while making the shotgun snap for the Gators. He has exceptional quickness and gets into good position to pass protect if somebody is over him and shows excellent awareness helping other linemen. His identical twin, Mike, plays right guard for the Gators, but he chose to return for his senior season. – Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com/CBS Sports/USA TODAY

March 30th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Florida Pete,
your wisdom is needed to address the MLB question. A solid Middle Linebacker and the D is fixed.
plenty of washed up offensive players to go around on the line and in the backfield (could say wide-out but Javon done flew the coop for a back alley somewhere).

Now the actual truth: the bank bailout money has been for the most part paid back to the government with interest. The banking sector is surprisingly healthy. A VERY far cry when the Obama administration took it over. The GM takeover and auto industry bailouts were surprisingly successful. And now with #1 auto importer Toyota on the ropes because of poor workmanship, the auto bailout program could not have come at a better time. The Cash for clunkers program took a huge amount of polluting autos off the road and replaced them with new less polluting vehicles and kept jobs from evaporating. Anyone would consider this program an unbridled success unless you want a filty environment and higher unemployment. Looking at the conservative Republicans here. And Actually, the uneumployment rate went down last month. Here is some other economic news just released today:
March 30 (Bloomberg) — Consumers in the U.S. gained confidence in March as the gloom over job prospects began to lift, indicating employment will be central to preserving the recent acceleration in spending.
The Conference Board’s confidence index rose to 52.5, exceeding the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, from 46.4 in February, according to figures today from the New York research group. Home prices unexpectedly rose in January for an eighth month, data also showed.

March 30th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
Anthony Davis
He’s supposed to be making league execs rethink their draft boards, and they just may be. The tackle-needy Seahawks are here, as well are the Redskins, Chiefs and Jaguars, all with multiple scouts, all here to watch Davis. But Davis is miles away in his hotel room, battling a stomach virus and a bum hamstring, he says. It’s a seemingly legitimate excuse – you can’t register a good 40-yard dash time when you can barely make it from bed to bathroom – but the invisible man act hardly has coaches pleased. It’s yet another blemish for a once-promising NFL draft prospect. When Davis decided in December to forego his senior year at Rutgers, the 20-year-old was instantly coveted as the top blindside protector in a class loaded with quality offensive tackles. Scouts saw a vicious blocker with ultra-quick feet, and Davis seemed like a lock to become the highest draft pick in Rutgers history. But the player once considered a surefire top-10 pick is now battling questions about his demeanor and desire. Add in a handful of suspensions – a one-game penalty for a violation of team rules in 2008 and a one-quarter suspension for being late to a team meeting in 2009 – and now Davis’ stock is falling, perhaps to the bottom of the first round. He hopes to stop the freefall when he holds a private workout on Tuesday, but scouts already have clouded opinions of the 6-5, 330-pound lineman. “I think he has the tools to be a very good player,” says scouting guru and former Cowboys personnel man Gil Brandt. “He has a lot of upside; he’ll make some squad very happy or he’ll be a disappointment.” – Ebenezer Samuel, NY Daily News

Which one of those guys was the one Al Attles came off the bench and punched?
Could you imagine that today? Doc Rivers coming off the bench and punching Pau Gasol?
March 30th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Dez Bryant
Scouts will finally have a look at Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant when the wide receiver holds a full workout at Lufkin High School in Texas on Tuesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. CT. A hamstring injury kept Bryant, who is Mike Mayock’s top wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft, from taking part in the NFL Scouting Combine, as well as Oklahoma State’s pro day. Bryant, who skipped his senior season to enter the draft, missed the final nine games of his junior year after being suspended by the NCAA for lying about a visit he had with his mentor, NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders. Bryant hasn’t performed in front of scouts since a Sept. 19 game against Rice. – Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I don’t care what his 40 is, I know he covers 5-10 yards in a hurry.
And since he doesn’t need protection from some fat DT in front of him since he knows how to shed blocks.
Let’s not make the same mistake that we did with Mualauga…whatever, that drunk dude from on the Bengals

Either trade up for Suh or trade down and get an extra pick in the first 2 rounds. We should be looking for DT, OT, and MLB in the first 2 rounds. You guys follow this guy Geno Adkins from Georgia. He was supposed to be a beast and gave Iupati fits at the senior bowl.

I think Spikes falls into the 3rd round.
And if we haven’t done anything at LB, I would be all over it.
For a potential late-round steal, I like the Sharpton kid from the U. When I watched them play, he had a presence, and strip it all down, he is still a MLB from the U. There is something to be said about that.
Probably could be had in the 5th round.
March 30th, 2010 at 6:47 pm
Aig, In real lfe, I cannot see Suh getting past 3, there are too many teams that can use his attributes. I can’t see a responsible Team letting him get through, and we are not the best looking team for him to come to, although we could use him. We should trade down and pick up some good looking talent, develope them, but immediately bolster out lines, ours truely suck! We have a decent team behind them, but our O-Line took out 3 QB’s in seven games?

Quickly, once you make over a certain ammout on your earnings, investments, your tax rate increases, without writeoffs, and puts you into the 38.5% bracket, for federal taxes, plus 6.5% state taxes on all income earned, add it up! Plus add in FICA, annother tax.
March 30th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
You don’t fix the MLB until you fix the DT/NT. You will frustrate yourselves needlessly.
The gap between a 1st round MLB and Kirk Morrison is fairly narrow…the difference between 1st Rd NT and “WHO’S IS PLAYING NT AGAIN?!?”, well that person…is much bigger.
The Ravens are considering adding more D-Lineman…you guys are talking about more athletic “playmakers” but totally ignore, or relegate to some 4th round pick, the NT position.
Draft your MLB! HE WILL FAIL! You have no NT! CAn’t you see this?

March 30th, 2010 at 7:13 pm

The Raiders haven’t had an NT in 7 years….even the Steelers and Colts tools NTs in the 1st round last year….every team beefs up the lines…
In Oakland, its always fleet footed pass rushers and skill players.
And hence you have the softest touch defense in the NFL

From 2005 to 2007, I was in the max bracket plus CA of around 10%. I was self employed and boy I was in for a surprise when it came to paying the IRS. It is extremely dangerous to make a lot of money and be self employed. You have a tendency to forget the big tax bill at the end of the year. It was fun to have FU money for a few years though.

Suh and Eric Berry are about as close to sure thing as there are in any draft. I like Dan Williams. I watched a lot of Vols here in Memphis. Dan is a fine player. Another good Vols is their RB Hardesty. However Dan Williams doesnt carry his team like Suh can. Both Cody and Suh played Texas and Suh proved he is the best player in this year’s draft.
March 30th, 2010 at 7:19 pm
Dan Williams could be a flop, Brandon Spikes could be one of the best players in the draft.

The Oakland Raiders have drafted 5 DTs since 1999, and only 1 was a 4th round pick, the rest 6th rounders
Anntaj Hawthorne, 6th Round 2005
Chris Cooper, 6th Round 2001
Junior Ioane, 4th Round 2000
Roderick Coleman, 5th Round 1999
Daren Yancy, 6th Round 1999 – Never played a down
Only Coleman proved any worth at all and he was dispatched from here.

860,
The repeat failures of draft picks and expensive free agents at DB, OL and LB has led to the total neglect of the DT position.
We are constantly trying to fix and re-fix these other positions that there is no attention paid to the DT.
Tommy Kelly – UFA (and he’s no difference maker)
Desmond Bryant – UFA
Gerard Warren – Dump off from our arch-rival Broncos
Terdell Sands – 7th round, NFL Europe K.C Chiefs
No investment

Davis worshipers do not want the Raiders to win. They just want Al Davis to have “one last hurrah”. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a victory on the field. Al can win a court case. Al can fire someone. Anything to get any kind of glory for Al Davis. Now you know what these guys are all about. The rest of us just want to see the Raiders win, with or without Al. And, Al’s worshipers are right. Al Davis isn’t down there on the field missing tackles and blowing assignments. Well, at last I checked, Al Davis never ran for a 70 yard touchdown in a Super Bowl, either. So fug him.
March 30th, 2010 at 7:57 pm
If the Gym-Rat or JaDavis is going to be the starter…the only chance of victory is for a defense that keeps the score close and stops the run….get a couple a couple of run block 1st guys to try and open holes for the running game.
There is little reason to get excited about two no-nothings like JaDavis and the Gym-Rat
March 30th, 2010 at 7:58 pm
SNB,
You don’t think DT’s Lamarr Houston, Terrance Cody, Cam Thomas, Geno Adkins or Troupe would be good 2nd or 3rd Round picks?
March 30th, 2010 at 8:01 pm
I think our only hope is for our offense to score more points next year. This team isn’t ready to be a great defense, they are too predictable and uncreatinve to be a great defense.
If our offense can get a few less 3 and outs, and a few more TD’s instead of FG’s and our defense might have a chance.
March 30th, 2010 at 8:05 pm
Disagree SnB …
You could LITERALLY look at about 5 or 6 plays each game that the defense as a whole just broke down. Those big plays for TDs that we gave up were killers. There were no methodical marches down the field against our defense.
I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Morrison and Howard have basically been replaced. Also, Chris Johnson’s days of getting torched are probably also over with the Routt tender.
Those things don’t have DT written on it anywhere.
And the 5 big plays a games (out of how many?) are what kills our defensive stats. Much different than under Ryan when it was 5-8 yard gains all day everyday PLUS the big plays.
Fix the offensive line! The best defense is a good offense!
March 30th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
SnB,
It does help to have a QB back there that at least know the play. However, it doesnt matter who the heck is back there if the opposing team arrives at the same time as the QB completes his drop step.

===================================================
DKnight007,
I don’t know enough about these players. I just refer to general rankings. When you say, “Adkins or Troupe would be good 2nd or 3rd round picks”…I say why not “(insert MLB or OT name would be good 2nd or 3rd round picks”
Run defense, for a points challenged offense, is critical in my opinion. Got to get off the field on 3rd and 3….but when you average 5 yards per carry on defense….your defense just gets ground into fine dust….the opponent is going to run the ball because they know our offense is bad…so why risk a turnover or a quick 3 and out against our decent pass defense….like the Eagles foolishly did last year.
I just think next year will be more of the same. Unless we get McNabb, an offense led by JaDavis or Gradkowski is not going to score points…..so we better stop somebody
March 30th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
SnB, Cable is not the guy, what he does good is O-Line coach. This team has no one to be responsible for getting it done, because AD runs everything, and everything is getting away from him. I’ve noticed since the late 80’s that our Defence has gotten so “Light”, that they can’t make a tackle, bounce off of a 6′7″ tight end making an easy reception, at our cost, speed has killed the RAIDERS as I know them. My RAIDERS punished teams into believeing into the Raiders way of thinking. Teams used to want to be Raiders, College kids came off the bus wanting to be Raiders, 40 times have killed this team! The Giants and Steelers adopted our lines from the early eighties and look where their at. We are still a team in regreneration.
March 30th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
This team isn’t ready to be a great defense, they are too predictable and uncreatinve to be a great defense.
——————————————————-
I thought our defense towards the end of the year was NOT predictable at all. Well in a traditional Raider sense that is. Blitzes and zone coverage were everywhere. I thought Marshall did a pretty good job, and I really look forward to seeing this defense in year 2.
The 3 safety look with Mitchell on the field attacking the LOS was NICE! Wimbley, Scott, and Mitchell all attacking???? Not predictable at all, IMO.

=====================================================
AIG, I hear you. But one thing this McNabb thing, and the comments by posters here has taught me is how low the bar is at QB.
There is no logical reason to expect a Gradkowski to be a top15 QB….or top 20
Its just hope and prayer…2 games can’t be the difference.
Somehow, someway…the Raiders have to ratchet up the standards of the QB position away from these fringe guys and burnouts.
It bothers me that Al Davis has developed a QB in 35 years….
That’s why I am huge on the defense…a tough defense gives us a chance.
Today, without a REAL QB, we dont’ stand a realistic chance…that’s been the consistent theme these last 7 or 8 years…and the 10 before Gannon
March 30th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
My preference this draft:
Rd.1: Rolando McClain ILB- The definiton of a coach on the field. Nick Saban, a defensive guru, has stated that he is one of the best players and pro prospects that he has ever coached. Is stout against the run, called the defense on the field, great football IQ, consistently takes the proper angles, great form tackler, can deliver the big hit, great work ethic, sheds blockers, uses hands well, excelled against elite competition.
Rd.2: Bruce Campbell OT- Surprise!!! With players like Williams, Davis, Okung, Bulaga, Pouncey, and Iutapi all OL and all ranked ahead of Campbell, and you may even be able to add Ducasse to that list at either OT or OG i feel teams looking at Bruce’s tape may opt to look elsewhere. This is just the team for Bruce to come to, he should be able to acclimate to the Hybrid ZBS power blocking system i believe we are implementing and Cable will pay special attention to him. He has extremely long arms and fantastic athleticism. Has not only weight room strength but functional strength, with outstanding “feet’ for a lineman.
Rd.3: Cam Thomas DT- I think this guy is highly undervalued. He is a great run defender and has fantastic athleticism for someone that is 6′4″ 330lbs. Able to take on multiple blockers, is a good bull rusher, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Had a good Senior Bowl week but not a lot of game tape to validate him as a better prospect. Has long arms and will command a double team on size alone. Can play in a 3-4 or 4-3 in the event we have a DE with their hand off the ground. With some consistency could be a real steal.

It does help to have a QB back there that at least know the play. However, it doesnt matter who the heck is back there if the opposing team arrives at the same time as the QB completes his drop step.
…………………………….
It would help if the QB completed their drop in less than five seconds.
March 30th, 2010 at 8:13 pm
SnB,
here you drag me into McNabb again….
I have been thinking seriously about McNabb and here is the picture I have in mind….
Last year, he was not able to make adjustments against our pass rush. He struggled because he didnt have time and he got sacked a bunch of times.
Now, imagine him behind our current Oline, it aint going to get any better.
Yes the bar is low but it’s because of losing for 7 straight years. We are the laughinstock of the league now. Reality sucks. Hopefully Al finally addresses the lines this year.
March 30th, 2010 at 8:14 pm

860,
My thoughts are aligned with yours on post 500.
The old Raiders were not this. On the contrary, they were very physical…and on defense…they weren’t all these speed demons….you had football players that intimidated and played physical.
This stuff we have here is hard to win with unless you have the Colts offense…and for all their efforts they still only have 1 ring

With Grads at QB our only hope is to hold every opponent under 17 points and have at least 2 takeaways and 3 very good returns a game.
With Jamarcus, unless he has drastically improved, there is no hope.

He’s not undervalued. This league is starved for NTs….Look at all the guys that got franchised or got very lucrative deals.
If this guy is a beast, he’s a 1st round pick.
He’s no better than any other 3rd round pick.
It just shows that the priority in Oakland remains on the “Back 7″ and not on building the lines

We were able to get so much pressure on Mcnabb because we didnt have to guess was it pass or run, we already knew.
Mcnabb was able to take his team to the playoffs with virtually no running game, a rookie reciever, a second year reciever, and Jason Avant.

The standards in Oakland for QB play is at an all-time low.
Could you imagine any team standing tall with these two going into the season?
The Raiders have managed to have the worst QB grouping in the NFL.
Think about most likely. Most likely our offense will struggle throwing the ball…our leading receiver with 30 catches…and a team at the bottom in scoring.
So we better stop the run on defense

Troy Smith was my number one QB the year he came out and besides Kolb there isnt a QB in that class that i would take over him right now. If you want to know why we need McNabb, watch the video on youtube called “from nfl quarterback to MAMGA king”.
It shows Jamarcus getting ready for some parade in his hometown.
It involves a plush velvet, “royal” robe, an idiot reporter, and the further murdering of the English language by our “college educated” QB.
Yeah, you read that right, ALL HAIL KING JAMARCUS!.

You are missing the point. it’s not about the Eagles. The point is our current Raider Oline SUCKS. Unless we improve our current line and I dont see any light at the end of that tunnel, McNabb or Favre will not do anythign here.

The Raiders consistently get poor QB play regardless of the QB.
Gannon/Gruden excepted, they ran the West Coast Offense.
Soon as they left Al went back to his old offense. It’s just doesn’t provide good QB play.
Deep patterns and straight drops.
March 30th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
I remember when the signing of Jamarcus was being delayed reportedly because Al wanted certain perfomance and behavioral clauses in the contract that Russell and his agent wouldn’t go for. IF, IF, IF we get donovan then the offensive line must be addressed thru free agency. period! you cannot draft a ot in rd1 and expect him to protect mcnabb. i can only imagine that if a deal is going down and hue jackson has talked to his cousin about this that those are some of parameters that must be met if this deal is gonna happen…there are plenty of good free agent lineman out there who are much better than the guys we have now… kevin mawae, bobbi williams, marcus mcneill, just to name a few…..like we said last night land the big fish first tho!.. then with our first 2 picks in rd1 & rd2 we can address the defense… we need to be able to stop the run a mlb that can go from tackle to tackle and make stops… it must be rolando mcclain..6′4 255lbs smart aggressive football savy… then after that go for a dt… first & foremost tho we need to get this deal done so we can concentrate on FA oline help…

Because when Mcnabb is gone we dont want to have to start from scratch with a rookie that you have no idea on as far as his pro prospects. It gives us at least 2 years with his contract and the franchise tag to see what we have in a young signal caller I actually prefer Darryl Clark in the 4th to both of the Qb’s i mentioned.

I’m telling you people right now…..Dez Bryant dogged the workout because him, his agent, and a few of the better NFL teams (ahem Cowboys and Pats) that draft in the middle teens to early and mid 20’s want him to fall so they can take him or so they can trade up to get him.
Jerry Jones wined and dined Dez for a reason.

Tommie Harris. A quick penetrator/ 3 technique who can get some inside penetration and not just act as a blocking sled.
I think Kelly was supposed to fill the same role as Seymour and play end on run downs and slide inside on passing downs. But I think after he signed the contract he ballooned up in weight, and is now stuck inside.
Price, Odrick, and Atkins are later round options in this year’s draft.

Pelosi replied, “I seriously doubt that. With one little wave of your hand? Show me!”
