  • 860,

    Explain what to me?

Yes Len, but more taxing on the employees. At one stretch, we went 16 months of 12 hour days, seven days a week, no days off except for a funeral for a family member. That is real life.

    That is brutal.

You’d think that 5 more employees could have at least taken the edge off.

Is this a pure money grab by the Company, or are there other circumstances that would make this understandable?

  • aig

You are right. Suh should not fall past 3. Frankly, I’d take him #1 overall. But one can always wish that Detroit trades with Al and move to 8. At 8, Detroit can still get an Olineman. Plus if Al will for sure give them a 2nd or 3rd to go along with that at the very least.

  • the highest tax bracket for fed income tax was 35% for 09. Corps are different.

  • 860

Investments are taxed separately, on the profits of those investments. The Capital Gains Tax max rate is 15%

  • Quickly, once you make over a certain ammout on your earnings, investments, your tax rate increases, without writeoffs, and puts you into the 38.5% bracket, for federal taxes, plus 6.5% state taxes on all income earned, add it up! Plus add in FICA, annother tax.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

You don’t fix the MLB until you fix the DT/NT. You will frustrate yourselves needlessly.

The gap between a 1st round MLB and Kirk Morrison is fairly narrow…the difference between 1st Rd NT and “WHO’S IS PLAYING NT AGAIN?!?”, well that person…is much bigger.

The Ravens are considering adding more D-Lineman…you guys are talking about more athletic “playmakers” but totally ignore, or relegate to some 4th round pick, the NT position.

Draft your MLB! HE WILL FAIL! You have no NT! CAn’t you see this?

  • LT Cap Gain was 15% for 2009.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

And spare me the BS that NTs are always deep. B.S….why not draft the MLB in the 3rd or 4th and take the NT in the 1st.

The Raiders haven’t had an NT in 7 years….even the Steelers and Colts tools NTs in the 1st round last year….every team beefs up the lines…

In Oakland, its always fleet footed pass rushers and skill players.

And hence you have the softest touch defense in the NFL

  • Aig, I agree, but I’m truly not holding my breath, unless the old fox has something up his sleeve, like letting everyone think he wants a washed up QB?

  • aig

From 2005 to 2007, I was in the max bracket plus CA of around 10%. I was self employed and boy I was in for a surprise when it came to paying the IRS. It is extremely dangerous to make a lot of money and be self employed. You have a tendency to forget the big tax bill at the end of the year. It was fun to have FU money for a few years though.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

You guys need to layoff the ESPN highlights.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Desmond Bryant, 290lbs and William Joseph are not NTs.

    Neither is Suh or McCoy.

Your NTs are guys like Dan Williams and Terrence Cody

  • aig

I sure would like to see Al have one last hurrah though. Wouldnt be surprised if Al pulls another stunner this year. Prob is we just never know.

  • 860,

I was talking about fed tax only, and I didn’t know that FICA wasn’t part of fed tax. ( I know it’s diff for self employment)

  • SnB, and the softest touch O-Line in football. Our QB’s enjoy 1.3 sec’s before they are hit!

  • Jay Ratliffe was a 7th round pick and was a Pro Bowl NY within a year or two.

It’s all a crap-shoot SnB, it don’t matter what position we draft IT IS THE PLAYER that matters.

  • Raider O, I recently came from my CPA, trust me on what I have to pay, with Obama, it’s sure to go up!

  • aig

Suh and Eric Berry are about as close to sure thing as there are in any draft. I like Dan Williams. I watched a lot of Vols here in Memphis. Dan is a fine player. Another good Vols is their RB Hardesty. However Dan Williams doesnt carry his team like Suh can. Both Cody and Suh played Texas and Suh proved he is the best player in this year’s draft.

  • Dan Williams could be a flop, Brandon Spikes could be one of the best players in the draft.

Bruce Campbell could end up better than Russell Okung.

You never know. But one of these days, can we be on the right side of these equations!!!!

  • aig

Well Al has been whiffing on those big swings. The rule of probability says we are due to make contact on those big Al Davis HR swings.

  • Vegas, what are the odds on Campbell, he’s from here?

  • 860,

Good for you sir. Did you pass your 1st time? I’m thinking CFA or CPA, but I’m not sure.

  • 860, Honestly I am the last guy to break down O-line technique. I see he is from New Haven (home of Yale). Maybe he is a bright dude.

I just know that there is these combine warriors every year, and the rate of them flopping is much higher than them panning out.

I pray Al doesn’t take him.

  • I like to do both investments and portfolio management. I’m thinking about getting my MBA from Haas (UCB) or UCLA, and then go for a CFP or CFA.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

The Oakland Raiders have drafted 5 DTs since 1999, and only 1 was a 4th round pick, the rest 6th rounders

    Anntaj Hawthorne, 6th Round 2005
    Chris Cooper, 6th Round 2001
    Junior Ioane, 4th Round 2000
    Roderick Coleman, 5th Round 1999
Daren Yancy, 6th Round 1999 – Never played a down

Only Coleman proved any worth at all and he was dispatched from here.

You wonder why your team is so soft!

No investment at all in this position

How many CornerBacks have we drafted?

  • I passed, but to protect assets from my ex, there is a lot that has to not be seen, because here, she can reopen for modification, as she has, my son is 20 yrs old, in college, and will graduate in two years, then she can’t touch me. I’d rather give it to the Gov than her.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

You can’t rely exclusively on late round picks and UFAs for a position as important as the NT.

Only 1 DT drafted since 2005

  • Don’t become a bean-counting monkey!!!

  • SnB,

The same can almost be said about our MLB’s as well. Kirk and nobody else.

A DT, O-line guy and MLB should each be picked somewhere through the first 5 rounds.

But you know there will be a DB and/or maybe a Carlos Dunlap or Javhid Best in the 2nd round.

  • SnB, the opposition shouldn’t even get through our lines, our lines are so given and soft, opposition doesn’t even have to watch film, the’ve known us for 7 years!

  • aig

Did McGlocton and D Russell burned Al Davis so much that he is refusing to pick up another one so high?

  • If coaches aren’t allowed to hold players accountable, what difference does it make about who they draft, they can’t develop them.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Gettign burned by bust after bust didn’t stop Al Davis from drafting DB after DB after DB

  • Everything is sooo Top Secret with the Media. Yet opposing coaches know The Raiders playbook better than they do.

    I don’t get it.

Republican’s going after younger contributers in Dominatrix Clubs?

Those freakin hypocrite, greedy GOP Republicans!

  • well said SnB, but our lines broke JR, plus his youth, he may rebound with something other than this oppressive O-Line, they didnt even protect our other Qb’s, at least JR was standing at the end.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

The repeat failures of draft picks and expensive free agents at DB, OL and LB has led to the total neglect of the DT position.

We are constantly trying to fix and re-fix these other positions that there is no attention paid to the DT.

Tommy Kelly – UFA (and he’s no difference maker)
    Desmond Bryant – UFA
Gerard Warren – Dump off from our arch-rival Broncos
Terdell Sands – 7th round, NFL Europe K.C Chiefs

    No investment

  • The Raiders have to be the easiest team in the NFL to prepare for.

The 2010 draft pick will not change that!

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

What happened to the O-Line. Just 2 years ago they were getting praise and Tom Cable was elevated to the Head Coach position.

I wish the Raiders had a D-Line coach as head coach

  • Al Davis doesn’t hire Defensive Head Coaches.

  • aig

    good point. so true.

  • Davis worshipers do not want the Raiders to win. They just want Al Davis to have “one last hurrah”. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a victory on the field. Al can win a court case. Al can fire someone. Anything to get any kind of glory for Al Davis. Now you know what these guys are all about. The rest of us just want to see the Raiders win, with or without Al. And, Al’s worshipers are right. Al Davis isn’t down there on the field missing tackles and blowing assignments. Well, at last I checked, Al Davis never ran for a 70 yard touchdown in a Super Bowl, either. So fug him.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

If the Gym-Rat or JaDavis is going to be the starter…the only chance of victory is for a defense that keeps the score close and stops the run….get a couple a couple of run block 1st guys to try and open holes for the running game.

There is little reason to get excited about two no-nothings like JaDavis and the Gym-Rat

  • DKnight007

You don’t think DT’s Lamarr Houston, Terrance Cody, Cam Thomas, Geno Adkins or Troupe would be good 2nd or 3rd Round picks?

  • I think our only hope is for our offense to score more points next year. This team isn’t ready to be a great defense, they are too predictable and uncreatinve to be a great defense.

If our offense can get a few less 3 and outs, and a few more TD’s instead of FG’s and our defense might have a chance.

  • jhill

    Disagree SnB …

You could LITERALLY look at about 5 or 6 plays each game that the defense as a whole just broke down. Those big plays for TDs that we gave up were killers. There were no methodical marches down the field against our defense.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Morrison and Howard have basically been replaced. Also, Chris Johnson’s days of getting torched are probably also over with the Routt tender.

Those things don’t have DT written on it anywhere.

And the 5 big plays a games (out of how many?) are what kills our defensive stats. Much different than under Ryan when it was 5-8 yard gains all day everyday PLUS the big plays.

Fix the offensive line! The best defense is a good offense!

  • aig

It does help to have a QB back there that at least know the play. However, it doesnt matter who the heck is back there if the opposing team arrives at the same time as the QB completes his drop step.

I don’t know enough about these players. I just refer to general rankings. When you say, “Adkins or Troupe would be good 2nd or 3rd round picks”…I say why not “(insert MLB or OT name would be good 2nd or 3rd round picks”

Run defense, for a points challenged offense, is critical in my opinion. Got to get off the field on 3rd and 3….but when you average 5 yards per carry on defense….your defense just gets ground into fine dust….the opponent is going to run the ball because they know our offense is bad…so why risk a turnover or a quick 3 and out against our decent pass defense….like the Eagles foolishly did last year.

I just think next year will be more of the same. Unless we get McNabb, an offense led by JaDavis or Gradkowski is not going to score points…..so we better stop somebody

  • SnB, Cable is not the guy, what he does good is O-Line coach. This team has no one to be responsible for getting it done, because AD runs everything, and everything is getting away from him. I’ve noticed since the late 80’s that our Defence has gotten so “Light”, that they can’t make a tackle, bounce off of a 6’7″ tight end making an easy reception, at our cost, speed has killed the RAIDERS as I know them. My RAIDERS punished teams into believeing into the Raiders way of thinking. Teams used to want to be Raiders, College kids came off the bus wanting to be Raiders, 40 times have killed this team! The Giants and Steelers adopted our lines from the early eighties and look where their at. We are still a team in regreneration.
