Javon talks Raiders

Here are some Excerpts from an interview with Javon Walker passed along by Melissa Jacobs, a former KNBR AND ESPN producer currently editing a Web site called “thefootballgirl.com.” The key quote where Raiders fans are concerned is highlighted in italics:

On his tumultuous last few years:

“Everybody needs to know that none of that was out of any wrongdoing on my part. It was just a situation where I was at the wrong place at the wrong time….I feel like I got put through the test of things that could happen to people and I bounced back.”

On time with Raiders:

“I was in an unfortunate situation in Oakland where I got put on the backburner… A lot of people know that situation when you go to Oakland so it’s not to no surprise. It wasn’t the right situation for me. . . When I was in Denver I performed. I was in Green Bay I performed, so now you’re trying to tell me that now I’m in Oakland I can’t perform? I never really got a fair chance. I’m not the first athlete who went into Oakland and all of a sudden it looked like his talents have disappeared. We can all remember, you know I’m a huge fan, with Randy Moss. People thought Randy Moss was done and look what happens when he decides to leave.”

On Oakland fans calling him Bernie Madoff (referencing contract):

“It wasn’t my fault because obviously the Raiders gave it to me. Everybody knows how Al Davis is. What fans don’t realize is when I signed that contract I offered to give it back. I don’t take money just to take it. People need to give the money back and they said no. I didn’t go into Oakland like Madoff. Somebody has got to give it to you, and they gave it to me. Last year, they didn’t put me on the field so if anybody “made-off” it was Oakland. . . People were wondering why I wasn’t dressing, well you know what, I couldn’t tell you. They just decided not to utilize my talent the way it needed to be utilized.”

On his surgery in Israel:

“I’m 100% healthy, finally, since I left Denver. People are going to say ‘Wow, that’s the Javon we remember.’ I returned 110%. That’s why if I was such a bad football player they would have let me go during training camp; they would have let me go during the season; they would have let me go during the 2009 season. So if people can read into that, if I was such a bad player they could have let me go a whole season ago. They didn’t because I came back 100 miles per hour, and they saw that every day. It’s like putting a new engine in an old car.

On the future:

“Come the 2010 season people are going to say ‘wow, this is the kid we remember and I’m going to sit back and say, hey, this was always here.’”

On what he’d say to a GM:

“Javon has never been in trouble. Javon doesn’t have a criminal record. Javon has never been caught up in anything detrimental to a team as far as my character. I’m not scared of nothing. I’ll come in there. I’ll workout with the team. Run routes for whoever I need to run to because my ability is where I need it to be. I’m the Pro Bowler who was there in Green Bay. Whatever team thinks they’re in need of a top receiver, 30 years old, in his prime, they’re going to come get me.”

On if he’d be willing to take the league minimum/incentive-laden contract:

“Yes, the thing about football right now is it’s not really about the money. Even when I went to Oakland, I said I’d give that money back. I just want to play football and utilize my talent to help a team win the Super Bowl and everything else will take care of itself.”

On being a potential fantasy sleeper:

“Fantasy is about what have you done for me lately, and I haven’t done nothing, so I just want to mess up everybody’s fantasy league wondering where he’d come from.”

The final word on Walker?

He’s probably kidding himself about his skill level. The Raiders paid him somewhere between $14 and $21 million (the club says it’s the former) and got 15 receptions in return. Easily one of the worst signings in the history of free agency, trumping even the Raiders own ill-fated acquisition of cornerback Larry Brown.

At least Walker offered to give it back.

    (Here’s you azzhole leader)

In a phone interview Wednesday, Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen defended his leadership skills, which have been criticized by ESPN’s Todd McShay.

“I’m a pretty good football player and a great leader,” he said. “If I was as bad of a leader and as bad of a teammate and person that (McShay’s) portraying me to be out there, I don’t think anybody would have voted for me as a captain. There are just a lot of things (McShay) says that I really don’t get. But that’s just another person who really doesn’t know who I am.”

  • Lefty, don’t forget, black people are the real racists.

  • Russell is black?

  • Is DMAC black too? Or DHB? Who knew!

I always thought Rickey Henderson was black. But he is Filipino.

  • Just Win Baby

Javon Walker and Kevin Federline are my heroes. If some ignorant dumbass wants to throw money at you for doing absolutely nothing, then let them do it.

Alex Smith is in his 5 year, and his numbers are no better than Russell’s.

    Alex Smith (2005-2007): completion percentage of 54. 4679 yards & 19 TD’s

    JaMarcus Russell (2007-2009): completion percentage of 52. 4083 yards & 18 TD’s

  • People should just drop race. Except for Al Davis, of course. He should continue to waggle his minority hiring in everyone’s faces. But everyone else should just drop it and move on.

Look, I want JaMarcus to succeed as much as anybody, but there is just too much evidence to suggest that he doesn’t care whether he does or not.

Blame Al Davis if you want to, but Al hired one of the most repected QB coaches in the business to work with JaMarcus. Nobody has banned the kid from the facility. Nobody has banned him from the film room. Nobody is forcing him to gain weight and not work out in the offseason. Nobody is forcing him to show up for camp out of shape. He is doing these things all on his own.

I don’t give a rat’s ass what the guy wears, nor do I care what color his skin is. I care about what he does on the field, and so far he has not demonstrated that HE does. If he did care I’m pretty sure the results would be different. Do the Raiders have a lot of work to do putting the pieces together to field a competent offense? They sure do, but JaMarcus Russell is doing less than nothing to help that situation, when in fact he should be out front setting an example. He signed the contract, and with that comes responsibility. I haven’t heard anything about his checks bouncing. Time for him to live up to his end of the deal.

  • Chris in NY

Walker by all reports and I believe even his own admission entered the 2008 season unmotivated and out of shape. He was given a chance to play but never produced. He only had 1 good season in Green Bay and 1 good season in Denver. Yet it’s all the Raiders fault he sucked. Sure.

  • Edward wants Russell to succeed as much as anyone.

  • RaiderRockstar

    Shaun Hill & J.T. O’Sullivan played exclusively at QB for the 49ers during Smith’s 4th NFL season – 2008.

sort of like Bruce Gradkowski & Charlie Frye will play exclusively at QB for the Raiders during Russell’s 4th NFL season (unless we trade for McNabb!) – 2010.

  • That’s right, Chris. Al gave him an opportunity. That’s what the successful owners in the league do. They don’t necessarily concentrate on getting the best players and winning, they’re more into giving players’ opportunities. Al gives opportunities. And these players don’t step up and become the great players they never were to begin with. It’s their fault.

  • Russell hangs out with busted chicks, too.

quick heads up on McNabb….I have been trying to figure out who were the people at Raider H/Q that denied the rumors…..

I have a good contact in the BayArea media and I was just informed that the people who denied the McNabb deal talks are legit folks at Raider HQ. We are not talking Herrera here.

If you listen carefully in all the rumors…you will hear people say the Raiders FIT the profile for this trade due to their draft pick and their need at QB. You never heard that someone confirmed or seen an offer has been made. Nor have they confirmed that talks are underway. Everyone including shefter says the Raiders are in the lead but no one is on record of confirming an offer has been made.

Personally, I think Al is too stubborn to admit Russell was a mistake IMO. We all know he sucks but only Al makes the decision. it is what it is.

Plus if BSPN is reporting it over and over again…..then it means the old man will not trade for McNabb just to spite them!

The old man Al and his cronies are like that….they act like 16 year old children!

Another question that hasn’t been answered is why old man Al and his cronies treat the fans like crap when it comes to not allowing open to the public practices during training camp in Napa?

Is the old man Al that paranoid that other teams may spy on his team?? It doesn’t matter, cause they have sucked for the last 7 years anyway! LOL

  • Does Russell only sport the frohawk during the season? Dumbest look since Rodman…

  • Hit the launch photos and they got 5 pics of him.

Shouldn’t this lazy azz be working out and getting in the best shape of life and working with on his mechanics in preparation for OTA’s instead of wasting all that money he hasn’t earned yet at the casino and ugly whores??

Adam Shefter was just on NFL live confirming what I suspected all along.

That due to our problem at QB and our picks, we “fit” the profile for a team that would want to trade for McNabb. It’s not to say it wont happen. However, it has been a lot of hot air so far IMO. Sure did get the Raider fan base excited.

the O-Line and run defense are huge problems that need to be fixed before this team can have any measure of success (with or without Donovan McNabb)

    (Here’s my pick)

Citing “several NFL sources,” the NY Daily News reports that the Giants are high on Alabama ILB Rolando McClain.

The G-Men have a need at middle linebacker, and McClain is a Jeremiah Trotter-type thumper who’d fit well in New York’s Eagles-like defense. McClain, though, may not make it past the inside linebacker-needy Broncos at No. 11.

My man Russell shooting dice in Vegas

Wonder when he throws the dice, does he miss the table?

Does it just go flying over dealers head?

Or maybe he just fumbles the dice on the floor, then trips over trying to recover them?

Mike Jack said it best :” it don’t matter if u black or white”

if you’d rather be gambling than studying film/playbook or working out then more power to you.

Your already rich. Your already a success.

I think he’s talking about the fact that every time someone critcizes JaMarcus Russell he automatically assumes that it’s because JaMarcus is black.

While that element does no doubt exist on this blog, there is also a significant number of people who don’t care about the color of his skin and wish he would pull his head out of his ass and start acting like an NFL quarterback by preparing physically and mentally to play the position and by leading his team by that example.

Kell is absolutely dead wrong when he attaches race to every single negative comment about Russell, and so is anyone else. It’s insulting.

  • Rockstar, maybe he can. Because I didn’t see anything Kell said that was untrue, inaccurate, or “wrong”. Nothing. Everything he’s said today seems on point.

  • Bo, really? When have I ever claimed victory in an argument just because someone didn’t post? I think that has to be the dumbest thing in the world. It’s as if the person you’re arguing with his supposed to be in here for an eternity. Like they can’t get up and take a shyt. Show me one single comment, Bo, where I’ve ever claimed to win an argument just because someone left.
