Preseason schedule; QBs and TMZ

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 at 2:39 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders will open up with a pair of preseason games on the road at Dallas and Chicago before finishing at home with San Francisco and Seattle.

Only weekends have been assigned so far, with specific days to be added later.

Submitted for your approval (or disapproval), a pair of TMZ links about the Raiders quarterback position.

Although it’s not likely to make the team’s media guide detailing the rich history of the Raiders, chances are its the first time the franchise got a pair of TMZ links within a 24-hour period.

The first includes a picture of JaMarcus Russell at a craps table at the Palms in Las Vegas. The headline? “Heavy Bettor.”

Not a great photo, but it’s hard to see the “significant difference” in Russell’s weight alluded to by Willie Brown.

The second says quarterback Donovan McNabb has no plans on wearing silver and black.

He would “refuse” a trade, according to the report.

While I’m not convinced McNabb will be traded to the Raiders, let’s see if he’ll really threaten to sit out a season with $11.2 million on the line if Al Davis swings the deal.

Chances are it would be similar to the Richard Seymour trade last season. McNabb would sit at a podium with Davis, talk about how he always wanted to be a Raider and refute every report which indicated otherwise.

And thus collect his $6.2 million roster bonus and $5 million salary.

McNabb’s Just Not That Into Us: TMZ
    By JOE KUKURA
Updated 2:00 PM PDT, Wed, Mar 31, 2010

“The Oakland Raiders’ widely reported pursuit of Donovan McNabb may be in jeopardy because McNabb would refuse to play for the Raiders, according to a breaking Internet report from an important news-gathering organization.

And this breaking Internet report comes to you from the same important news-gathering organization that also broke the blockbuster story that Jesse James’ third mistress did not really have sex with a monkey.

Yes, TMZ.com, the sleazy gossip site that usually reports on stories like whether Octomom will do a porn movie, has taken to covering the Oakland Raiders. Their latest report claims that Donovan McNabb would refuse a rumored trade to the Raiders, and would not play for Oakland.

“A source close to McNabb tells TMZ, ‘He does NOT want to play for the Raiders and would refuse the trade’,” according to the report.

Now any Raiders fan with two memories of the Richard Seymour saga to rub together can tell you that a pro football player cannot refuse a trade. Sure, TMZ.com has done some groundbreaking working coming up with funny headlines, but they obviously don’t know the first thing about contract and trade considerations within the current NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.

And TMZ.com wasn’t done with the Raiders yet. Wednesday morning they tried to stoke another JaMarcus Russell scandal by publishing pictures of Russell in a late-night gambling binge at a high-stakes Vegas craps table.

That doesn’t even bother Raiders fans anymore. As long as Russell’s late-night binges are at a craps table instead of a Taco Bell, we actually consider that progress.”

  4. jmello21 Says:

that being said… the Raiders with Rich Gannon coming out of retirement than Donovan McNabb leading the way. If he is our QB and the team is only marginally successful, Donovan will find every way he can to put it back on the Raiders ala Randy Moss and resurrect his career with the Vikings and Adrian Peterson come 2011. Write that down.

I’d rather have Trindan Holliday from LSU. Get him late because he sure won’t be doing anything except returning kicks. Blinding speed, and since he’s only about 5′6 he will be virtually impossible to find out there. Works for Sproles.

Grab him and one of the fullbacks (John Connor UK or Rashawn Jackson UVA) late and we wrap up the draft pretty well.

Whether the McNabb to Oakland rumors have any merit won’t be known till at least the 5th or maybe even until the draft or after.

Technically it IS illegal to “tamper” with a contract player like McNabb.

    Does it happen?
    Obviously.
    Should teams openly flaunt it?
Probably not, especially teams with a real or percieved persecution complex.

If McNabb gets nabbed by Oakland it could come before the eagels roster bonus of $6.5 mill or after if depending on the compensation paid by the team taking him.

All myriad of things could happen there contractually but at trade theoretically could come before or during the draft if picks from this year come into play.

Or, all of this could be ridiculous speculation by “reproters” desperate for anything NFL in the off season that doesn’t have to do with 40 times and rape.

Funny how one of the worst teams of the decade always manages to be in the spot light, wanted or not.

Campbell is not worth the #8 overall, Jahvid Best duplicates what we (should, and will wait to find out if we do) have in McFadden, and where is Jacoby Ford going to play, because if we take him in the third ahead of an offensive or defensive lineman you’d think he would have to be on the field.

Enough about the edges of the offense and defense. We need to address the middle on both sides of the ball. Center, guard, defensive tackle, middle linebacker.

Well, and quarterback, but that’s another subject entirely.

Mistresses, ex-adviser reveal shocking Tiger details
    Fox Sports
    Updated Mar 31, 2010 3:10 PM ET

Tiger Woods became a self-indulgent, s3x-crazed narcissist because he hung out with the wrong crowd — including retired U.S. basketball players Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley , the shamed golfer’s longtime former adviser claimed in an explosive interview Wednesday.

“I told him, ‘Stay away from that son of a ***** (Jordan), because he doesn’t have anything to offer to the ****ing world in which he lives except playing basketball, which he did yesterday,’ ” lawyer John Merchant told the latest edition of Vanity Fair magazine.

The magazine’s 14-page special also featured interviews with Woods’ alleged mistresses, including cocktail waitress Mindy Lawton, who described how she first met Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren while serving them at a diner near their Florida home.

“One of them would read the paper, just very cold,” she said. “I didn’t see any signs of affection … I figured he was in a loveless relationship with his wife.”

Soon after, she began an affair with Woods, who was nonstop with his s3xual demands and “had the biggest (pen1s) I’ve ever seen,” said Lawton.

On one occasion, he insisted on meeting her right before a big golf tourney in 2007, she said, adding: “He wanted that last piece of booty before he could go to his tournament. To make him shoot better.”

Another woman linked to Woods, Las Vegas nightclub hostess Jamie Jungers, said he showed no remorse about cheating, readily answering questions about his marriage, which he described as “good,” and noting after one s3x session in 2005 that his wife was “in Sweden with her sister.”

  32. KoolKell Says:

Now, Woods has hired George W Bush’s mouthpiece, Ari Fleisher to re=set the image.

  33. Senior Beeecham Says:

Yeah, Krappy, your buddy Tiger is a lot like you – afraid to admit he’s an idiot so he asks people smarter than himself to stand up for him.

Either way, Krappy & Tiger have a ton in common. Except for the fact that 1 of them has lot of money, isn’t a well known racist and gets to have sex with attractive white ladies.

    Awesome!

  41. edward teach Says:

Agreed, Vegas. I do expect Al to waste a pick or two on skill positions. I just don’t think it’s smart with all the other holes we have, especially when filling those holes would probably make the skill players we already have a bit more successful.

I suggested Trindan Holliday because he is a fast guy, he could really help in the return game but we wouldn’t have to waste a high pick on him at the expense of a player we really need.

It defies Raider logic, though, I know.

I’d say the rumors of him being closer to 3 bills than 250, are more than likely fact.

And, I would sure hope he could “pull” better than the two skanks that were loitering at that table. But, he was benched in favor of Frye. Maybe he’s gotten used to being with the 3rd. stringers…..

prior to JaM AD hadn’t drafted a first round QB since Todd.
prior to McF^ckhog AD hadn’t drafted a high first round RB since Allen.
prior to DHB AD hadn’t drafted a WR high in the first round since the days of the Chicago Staleys.

JaM just wants a Haynesworth contract. bulk up and rake in 100 mill.

  47. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

What position gets the biggest upgrade with a free agent or draft pick. Here are my two:

McNabb over (JaDavis and the Gym-Rat) = Raiders do not have an NFL caliber QB on the roster. If Davis is smart, they instantly go for a hopeless QB situation to one of the top 5 or 10 in the league.

Dan Williams over (William Joseph and Desmond Bryant) = The Raiders do not have a NT on the roster. Bryant and Joseph are too light and are more pass rush guys. Big Dan Williams, added to Seymour and Shaughnessy, gives the Raiders a good line and might free up Kelly to do more….also line up Williams next to Seymour and what does the opposing O-Line do.

Trent Williams over (Khalif Barnes @ RT) = I don’t believe the Raiders have given up on Henderson. However, the gap on the right end is pretty big….a draft pick or free agent gives the O-Line a big boost

McCLain over Morrison MLB = Some improvement possibly, but not nearily as much as the above

  48. edward teach Says:

Lonetree… yep, if you hire Fleischer you’re already suspect in my book. At least with the BCS he can put his work with political bodies to use.

I hope you’re right about a lineman, although if he does that I suspect it will be a DE. Just don’t see him taking a LT because of Mario, and Al loves his playmakers in the first.

Well then, that’s all the more reason that sports writers have no ground to mock TMZ. Look at this obsession with Russell’s personal life. If he’s a bad quarterback, he’s a bad quarterback. Write about it. But to follow him around? Seems pretty TMZ like, to me. And, it doesn’t surprise me that TMZ gets the inside track on McNabb’s status. However, Lane is still very much on the minds of Al and his loyal supporters. How sad.

  73. Senior Beeecham Says:

Did you do it on your own, steal some stuff from your man Johnny Carson, or hear it from one of the brothers down at the barbershop?

  75. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

As far as McNabb refusing a trade to the Raiders, what did I say from the get go? And sure, it will be like Seymour. He’ll eventually cave in and take the money, and Raider fans will get a rude awakening as to how our problems extend far beyond player personnel when we lose anyway.

  76. RaiderLen Says:

    Kudos to Kiffin.

What has Kiffin accomplished? You’re making my point for me, Len. You’re still sour at Kiffin, obviously. The feeling is not mutual. Kiffin is so over you guys and Al. He got over it. So should you.

  83. M Lonetree Says:

    A long long time ago
I can still remember how the O-line used to make me smile.
And I knew if they had their chance
They could make a defense dance
And the Nation would be happy for a while
    But February made me shivver
    With Super Bowls undelivered
    Sad news on the doorstep
    Another retread named CPepp
I can’t remember if I cried when I read about the downward slide
But something touched me deep inside, the day they hit the schneid

  84. RaiderLen Says:

I have no concern regarding Kiffin.

I’m making the observation that few have earned as much, with so little a resume.

Look at His head coaching record.

  85. Thec07 Says:

Kiffin will win Nada at USC. I am a big USC fan, and he was not the brains behind the Offense that propelled USC to fame. It was ALL Norm Chow. Kiffin, and sark could never get it done as OCO’s. I give him 3-4 years of mediocrity before he is jettisioned to UCSD…

  86. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Is that lifted from somewhere, Lonetree, or did you write that?

  87. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Len, you’re still bitter. You reveal it in every single comment.

  88. Thec07 Says:

looks like the “Professional Bloggers” are in the room time for me to exit stage left….

  89. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

lol. Wow. Thec has a problem with some of us, doesn’t he?

  90. RaiderLen Says:

    Thec07…

    Kiffin has a lot toprove.

It’s surerreal that this guy has the job.

He really should send AL a christmas card.

Had AL not hired Him…He’d not have coached Tennessee nor USC.

    No. Not really MR.

  92. KoolKell Says:

    Lane Kiffin
    Rich Gannon
    NFL Referees
    NFL
    US Media
    KoolKell
    Real MaddenRaider

Everybody instead of the person at root of their problem. Al Davis.

  93. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Len, you seem to be upset at USC for giving Kiffin the job. I have not seen up to this point that you’re a USC fan, because that’s the only reason you should care, outside of your being a Davis supporter with an ax to grind.

  94. Thec07 Says:

Len, I beleive Kiffin would have gotten a job, but he is way overated. He and sark blew at least 2 National champioship tries with his play calling. He is weak at best, and will prove how inept he truly is once he is rolled in the PAC-10….

  95. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Yes, really, Len.

  96. RaiderLen Says:

MR…if you have a hard on for Kiffin and feel jilted…that’s your perogotive.

    Don’t project onto me.

  97. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Thec, you’re back! That was quick.

  98. KoolKell Says:

  99. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

What have I said that would indicate I have a “hard on” for Kiffin, Len?

  100. vegas raider Says:

Lane is a sissy, and calls a game like one.

  101. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Kell, don’t waste your time. It’s obvious these guys don’t care about Al’s won/loss record, unless he’s winning.

  102. vegas raider Says:

  103. Thec07 Says:

Yeah Mr, I couldnt stay away, heard my name called in vain….

  104. M Lonetree Says:

change your name to “Real Kiffin Raider” and be done with the disingenuousness.

everyone will understand if you buy season tickets behind the Trojan bench.

  105. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I’ve never heard any respectable football journalists, reporters, ex playes, etc. say that about Kiffin, Vegas. Sure you’re not just bitter, too, because of his falling out with Al?

  106. KoolKell Says:

When Al Davis hired Lane Kiffin, all we heard was:

    I’m in
    I’m in

  118. Nnamdi21 Says:

IF we get McNabb an O line pick with the 8th is in order.

This move, rumor as it may be, would instantly upgrade the O line (as I’ve mentioned) with McNabb’s release, awareness and feet and help us take advantage of a weakened division.

  119. RaiderLen Says:

I’d take McNabb in a heartbeat.

And I’d draft heavy on the O LIne to protect Him.

  127. M Lonetree Says:

Do our country a favor and declare as an independent.

  136. RaiderLen Says:

    Kell.,

    Yes I see the irony.

That’s the problem imo. A lot of anti this and that, but when the bill comes due, everybody is looking to someone other than themselves to pay the bill..

    We need Government.

My prefference would be that it be less intrusive.

But that is just my opinion.

  140. RaiderLen Says:

Multi Nationals by definition would not “per say” have our best interests at heart.

I like the idea of America and manufacturing jobs in abundance, and we could re establish a working middle class.

We can do this, but I’m of the opinion that Washington and Corporate America is not really interested.

  141. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Lonetree, you seem to be hung up on this notion that anyone who doesn’t jump on the Kiffin dog pile must be an avid supporter of his. It’s not true.

  142. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Kell, I lost count of how many Republicans I know who wound up taking some kind of public assistance, after a lifetime of bashing it. That’s why I stopped listening to them years ago.

  143. RaiderLen Says:

Yep… People that have forever been on the public dole would never have a bad thing to say about it.

Except that it ought to be more, and it should be more conveinient.

The hard core workers who think that the government dole is for losers learn that they are not bullet proof.

The difference between the two groups is that one is willing and wants to work, and feel great shame and humiliation, while the other wonders why they don’t get more.

This by the way has nothing to do with political affiliation.

It has to do with personal experience and Integrity.

  144. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR…

I am a libertarian. I am for a very small federal government with very limited powers (as is called for in the constitution). I HATE the fact that Welfare and public assistance programs have become “free money” systems. I want very strict guidelines set on what is required for someone to get those programs. I am in favor of their existence, but want there to be more qualifiers than “are you unemployed and pregnant,” because those things make it more appealing to do nothing and pump out babies than to actually participate in society and its economic progression. Since it is impossible to change the system from the outside, I have taken full advantage of it on the one occasion in my adult life when I was able to do so.

Back in 2001, my uncle was released from the hospital and was bedridden with black lung and emphysema, just waiting for death to take him, he could not afford home healthcare and did not qualify for full-time nursing. Neither of his sons volunteered to take care of him and no one else in the family wanted to do it. So I took a leave of absence from my job at an advertising company in Virginia Beach and moved back to the country to take care of him. He was supposed to last less than two months, but held on for almost a year. After the two months had passed, I informed my job that I would not be able to make it back as planned and immediately signed up for foodstamps because Marshall couldn’t afford to pay me for helping him (his SS check was $590/month, which barely covered household bills). I renewed the foodstamps six months later, which gave me another six months. He died before my allotment ran out, but I let it continue to refill every month, even though I had become employeed again after he died (I had three months left and I used every bit of it).

I look around and see so many people abusing the system that I decided to become a part of the problem, as well. The only way to get it fixed is to make it so bad that something HAS TO be done. You know the guy who lets his car get rusty as hell, ignores the bad brakes, ignores the broken muffler, and ignores every other problem with it and doesn’t do anything to get it fixed until it finally breaks down completely and won’t go any farther until something is done? That guy is our federal government and the car is the system of public aid programs.

  145. Hot Shot Says:

gradkowski might be a no name QB but so was gannon at an older age until he came to the raiders.Certain systems work for certain players.Fuk Mccrappy nabb.

  146. SteveAlford21 Says:

As an ancillary note to my above post:

I did NOT sign up for Welfare or any other assistance programs, just for foodstamps. I got out of the Army in late 2000 and had been working at the advertising company for only a few months at the time that I began caring for Marshall. I was 21 and still full of piss and vinegar.

  147. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

RaiderLen, it’s obvious your personal experience and “integrity” (lol) doesn’t include a lot of interaction with people who’ve been on welfare. Welfare is not a party. Only a small number of people on welfare enjoy it in the way you’ve described. Your short sighted assessment of the mentality of people on welfare reveals that your comments are more politically driven than you want us to believe.

  148. SteveAlford21 Says:

Also, I had to sell my car after three months of taking care of Marshall because I had to support myself because he didn’t have the money to pay me anything. Even though I was staying there rent-free, I still had things that had to bed paid for (insurance, internet, other assorted items) and had to do SOMETHING for money, because I couldn’t get a job since Marshall needed round-the-clock care. I NEEDED the foodstamps at the time that I signed up. The extra three months after he died was where I abused the system.

  149. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Steve, everyone who signs up for any kind of welfare has some kind of hardship, some worse than others. There are people out there who would say that YOU were leaching off of the system, too. YOU could have tried harder. YOU could have found a few hours a day to get any kind of work done. Of course, I wouldn’t agree with them. And that’s the same benefit of the doubt I afford everyone on welfare until they’ve proven otherwise. And in my experiences, very few have.

  150. SteveAlford21 Says:

And yes, I very much needed the luxury of internet access. Only when you have to spend every second of every day listening for a bell to ring in the next room so that you have to rush in and find out what a bedridden person needs do you truly understand monotony. Without internet access to fill the hour of nothingness until the next snack, pill, meal, or ass-wiping, I would have gone insane. The fact that I could never leave the house to go run any errands of my own or have any fun most certainly didn’t help any.

  151. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

In my situation, it was literally impossible for me to leave the house to go out and earn any money. I was Marshall’s sole source of assistance and there was no telling when he would have an attack or need to use the bathroom or any other random thing. I was 24-hour care. About once a month, he would have a bad attack and have to be hospitalized for a couple of days to recover. During those times, I would go mow grass for neighbors, put up fences, or find some odd-jobs to earn some money to make things easier, but there was no guarantee when the next chance to do so would come along. I learned some very important lessons about budgeting during those 11 months.

  152. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Steve, nothing’s impossible. That being said, I personally have no problem with your use of welfare. I don’t criticize people on welfare until they prove themselves to be abusing it.

  153. SteveAlford21 Says:

I also learned that when Marshall would get hospitalized, I would have two days worth of his painpills to snort or sell to make some money to alleviate the strain. Caring for a dying man was my initial step into the muddy waters of prescription drug abuse.

  154. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Steve, I’ll speak right to the point that I think you’re trying to make, which is that your use of welfare is different from that of people who typically come from impoverished environments. And I have to say, I’m sorry, but I disagree with you. I don’t believe your use of welfare is any different than theirs. You’re wasting your time trying to explain the difference. Because frankly? I’ve read your story, and I believe you. But the stories I’ve heard from people in impoverished environments are worse than yours.

  155. SteveAlford21 Says:

I wasn’t on welfare, though. I was on foodstamps. I got 190 dollars worth of food a month. They issued me a card that looked like a credit card and on the first of every month, they would put a debit amount of 190 dollars on it that ONLY worked at grocery stores. When the total had been rung up, you slide the card and if there are ANY items that aren’t FOOD on the total, then that item is deducted from the “food” total and the foodstamp card would not pay for it.

Welfare is a check that can be cashed and used for anything. Foodstamps can ONLY be used for food.

  156. RaiderLen Says:

MR…I see and talk with people every day.

Con jobs come in all demographics. I know this because I’ve witnessed it. For 30 years.

Please refrain from lecturing me on my personal experience and opinion.

If your heart bleeds a certain way… fine.

    Just don’t preach to me.

  157. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

As far as calling yourself a libertarian, I think you really need to reexamine the Libertarian party’s position on food stamps.

  158. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Len, sometimes a response is going to come in the form of a lecture. You have the option of reading it or not reading it. I don’t know what to tell you.

  159. SteveAlford21 Says:

I’m not saying that my circumstances were any better or worse than those of others. I’m merely saying that there should be stricter requirements for getting public assistance of any kind. I took advantage of the system for three months after I no longer needed it. Actually, the first month when I was getting my life back in order, I did need it… so I took advantage for two months. There are people out there who take advantage much worse than I did for DECADES… and they take advantage of systems that pay them money, not just foodstamps. My story is just an illustration of how easy it is to get over on the system once you no longer need it.

    We need welfare reform badly.

  160. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Sure, Steve. Stricter requirements that fall just short of banning people in your situation from getting food stamps. For being a libertarian, you sure do walk and quack like a Republican.

  161. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

I told you that I saw a broken system and decided to take advantage of it. I know that it’s against my party’s mainline stance, but that doesn’t have to be how I feel about everything. Are ALL Republicans “pro-life?”

  162. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

I didn’t say to cut off assistance programs or eliminate them, I just want requirements (or at least regular reviews of people on the programs) that prevent people from doing what I did and worse.

You’re not a Libertarian if you believe in any kind of welfare. this is how i feel about public assistance and really should be taken into consideration…DRUG TESTING!!! YOU WANT FREE GOODIES???? YOU MUST PASS A DRUG SCREEN AND BE DRUG SCREENED ON A RANDOM BASIS. YOU FAIL THE DRUG TEST YOU LOSE YOUR BENEFITS…

  169. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

30 Year Raider, so you’re for welfare as long as people are clean from drugs? Someone can live off of the system their entire life, and you’re cool with it as long as they don’t do drugs?

  170. SteveAlford21 Says:

I want the federal reserve bank to be eliminated (it’s neither federal, nor a reserve).

    I am pro-choice.

I want a much smaller and more restricted federal government with more emphasis on the States’ rights to legislate to their people.

I am against big-business buying and controlling our public officials.

I want full visibility of everything that the government does, since the people own it.

I want the people to be in charge of the government, not vice-versa.

I want a complete overhaul of foreign-relations policies, one wherein we do NOT invade other countries and start wars on the whims of our “allies” or because of the possible economic gains of taking their natural resources (oil and other commodities).

I want an abolition of income tax, or, barring that, an inverse taxation structure.

If I’m a Republican, I damned sure don’t act like it. My opinion on ONE issue doesn’t make me hold to anything else that a party believes. The two-party system is a false dichotomy and the American people have to break free from it and realize that there is more out there than the two options that are forced upon us.

  171. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Well, you were acting like a Republican when you were saying that we should be stricter with welfare to prevent people from doing what you did. That kind of hypocrisy is as Republican-esque as it gets.

  172. 30 year raider Says:

no im not cool with all of this public assistance…but drug testing & random testing would cut this crap out by over 50%. write that down

  173. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

30 Year Raider, what sources can you back that up with? That 50% of people on welfare use drugs?

  174. 30 year raider Says:

    madden

it would be a start of downsizing alot of these programs.. its a very simple solution

  175. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

It was my mistake to say that I’m Libertarian, when in reality, I am a member of no party and think that the party system is just B.S. to make people bend on their positions on ONE issue because they agree with a certain party on OTHER issues. I said that I’m a libertarian because they are the party with whom I most agree. Having said that, I was in favor of stricter requirements BEFORE I was on foodstamps. If anything, I was a hypocrite for taking advantage of a system that I wanted changed in the first place… but that doesn’t make me a Republican, a Democrat, or a Libertarian, it makes me human.

When I first signed up, it was legitimate and would have passed any screening. After my renewal was approved, it was still legitimate. When Marshall died, I had three more months of free food coming to me and I took it. I did NOT, however, try to renew after that cycle was over. That would have truly been taking advantage of the system.

  176. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

It’s not a very simple solution at all, 30 Year Raider. Denying welfare to people who need it, in an economy like this?

  177. SteveAlford21 Says:

Besides, 190 bucks a month breaks down to $47.50 per week. I wasn’t exactly pulling a fast one on the government there… I was living on frozen dinners and bologna sandwiches while caring for Marshall. I guess they didn’t think that a single, 21-year-old male needed to eat much.

  178. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

People who take advantage of the system are human, too, Steve.

  179. 30 year raider Says:

i have a job had to take a drug test to get it…also must be subjected to random testing to keep it…it would be a start.

  180. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Steve, there’s no reason to explain yourself to me. I’m cool with your use of welfare. But again, if you’re still trying to make the case that your use of welfare is different from that of others, like, say, poor minorities, I don’t see where it is. No sale there.

  181. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I don’t think it would do much to eliminate welfare, 30 Year Raider. I don’t think there are as many drug users on welfare as you imagine.

  182. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

At first thought, I agree with you that drug tests are bad. I wouldn’t want to refuse help to someone who needs it just because they are addicted to a substance. If anything, that would make their situation WORSE.

After further thinking, however, I realized that if someone is on drugs AND getting free money, then they have no motivation to get clean, because we are paying for their food, housing, and bills… and for their drugs as well.

I wouldn’t cut someone off for a positive test. I would put them in mandatory counseling for six months. That’s a LONG time and should be long enough to get clean, no matter WHAT drug you’re on. After that six-month period is over, your assistance would be probationary and you would be told that one failed drug test would mean the total loss of benefits. I think that system would do everything possible to help someone and that the only way to lose that help would be to refuse to do even the smallest of things to keep it.

If I as an investment of yours (citizens are supposed to help the economy by dent of being a part of it) and you gave me ten bucks every day to buy a bus ticket to go out looking for jobs and to buy my lunch… and then found out that I had had been staying at home and spending the money on weed, eating crackers… would you continue to give me the money?

  183. 30 year raider Says:

people who truly need welfare single parents with kids who lost there jobs they need it lets give it to them… but if that parents is given a drug test and it shows they ve been smoking crack , well you aint getting any mercy from me bro..WELFARE DENIED!!!

  184. Guy Says:

    2. DT Cam Thomas/ Lamarr Houston
I am torn here, not sure which is a better fit for our D. I don’t want college football.

    3. WR Jacoby Ford
He is a speedster Al will love and could be a great kick returner for us. Possibly replaces Higgins if Higgins is still giving minimal effort.

    4. OG Mitch Petrus or the OG from Alabama.
I think he is a good Run blocker and he blocked for McFadden.

    5a. Center
Do not know much about the centers in this draft.

    5b. Cb Donovan Warren
Before the combine, he was top corner and fell a lot due to poor forties. I am hearing he will be a steal.
If he is gone, let Al pick a physical specimen.

7a and 7b. Let Al do what he does best, find late round steals.

  187. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

30 Year Raider, what gives you the high ground to define just who “needs” welfare?

  188. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

30 Year Raider, if you don’t know for a fact how many people on welfare are on drugs, why would you insist that you do know, and even give a number, as you did earlier? Isn’t that a bit dishonest?

  189. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

I don’t care what color someone is in relation to their assistance status. What I care about is the type of assistance.

Here’s what I mean: the type of assistance that I received wasn’t Welfare. It was foodstamps. I am totally in favor of anyone who has low income getting foodstamps.

In the cases of those who need money for housing, I am totally in favor of them getting assistance in the form of rent-payments TO THEIR LANDLORD.

My problem is with a system that gives someone a CHECK or any other form of assistance that can be converted directly to cash and used at the recipient’s discretion. If someone needs help, I say that we have an obligation to give it… so long as we give it intelligently and they show that they need it and intend to do whatever they can to improve their situation so that they no longer need it. Giving them a check that they can cash and go spend on lottery tickets is just a bad idea (I am from the country and have known many people in my day who did that very thing. FYI, they were all white).

  190. mack-madden Says:

Here’s how u feel bout drug testing.

DRUG TEST ALL THE POLITICIANS before declaring a WAR ON DRUGS and other false propaganda to scare America into thinking the inner city if filled with nothing but dumb poor people with no ambition to strive for better things in life And doing it the right way.

  191. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

  194. SteveAlford21 Says:

    RMR,

In case you want to say that I brought race into this, I mentioned that they were white because YOU said that my experiences weren’t analogous to those of minorities as if I was trying to deny help to people because of race. I’ve known just as many white people who screwed the welfare system as I have black. Color isn’t an issue to me, it’s merely about the foolishness of giving MONEY to people who don’t need it… or only need it because they refuse to improve their situation as long as we give them free money.

  195. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

30 Year Raider, I think it’s an ineffective solution. I think this large number of people on welfare being drug users exists in your imagination only.

  196. SteveAlford21 Says:

Saw your post 191 after I posted 194. You said it while I was typing. Just trying to keep the conversation about the public assistance programs and not about race. Glad to know that we’re on the same page.

  197. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

  198. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

Remember the children in all of your legistlating. Both sides of the coin. Kids don’t choose their parents….anyway

The more I think about this McNabb thing…the more I believe this is the ONLY way for the Raiders to have a CHANCE at respectability.

    1. If JaDavis can come close to beating S.D and the Gym-Rat can play Cincy & Pitt tough…McNabb should be able to give us that lift to beat S.D and definitely not lose the games to the K.C, Wash and Clevelands of the world….Especially with next years schedule

    2. If anyone is going to salvage DHB its McNabb’s strong arm…plus Miller, Schilens and Murphy are hungry for a real QB…Miller said as much on radio interview

    3. Only have to pay McNabb $11M for 1 year…not committed to long-term…so if it doesn’t work out we aren’t sunk like we are with JaDavis…we pay JaDavis some $20 million over next two seasons..cut him and give the money to McNabb…if it works out, then he will be worth $100 Billion

    4. Our 2nd round pick…hell, the 1st round pick is effectively worthless. Al Davis has no clue on how to pick players and we will most likely end up with a Height-Weight-Speed Bust that won’t contribute a DAMN thing. Give McNabb a fraction of that total for this year…and if it works then pay McNabb as opposed to next year’s Philip Buchanan

    5. JaDavis and Gradkowski the Gym-Rat are not NFL caliber QBs. To go with them, would be putting up the white flag. Getting McNabb at least shows a commitment to winning.

    6. McNabb had a shaky O-Line in Philly this year and played far better then any QB the Raiders will trot out there in the best of times…Peters was worse than Henderson and the Right Tackle for Philly was released

    7. Al Davis has not developed a QB in 35 years. So drafting a mid to late round QB won’t do jack for us. Just another Tui, Billy Jo Hobert, Marc Wilson, JaDavis, Andrew Walter…forget it…as long as Davis is in charge, and he keeps micro managing…then there is no way this franchise will ever develop a QB

    8. McNabb would have the veteran respect and saavy to push back on stupid ideas….like Gannon did

    9. Did I mention he’s the only chance we have to win

  199. mack-madden Says:

I had to take a drug test for my job.

  206. Raider guy Says:

That is tough.

  207. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

    Raider Guy,

I don’t feel bad for JaDavis. If he was just struggling on the field, then yes I would because QB is a tough position.

But this guy appears to not want to keep himself in elite condition…apparently doesn’t put the work in…and anyone who’s played Div 1 football has to be aware of the conditioning aspect.

I would be patient with JaDavis but the conditioning and commitment doesn’t seem to be there.

    How long can you wait.

    bring on Donovan McNabb!

  208. Raider guy Says:

But the way he has gone about it sort of seems to be a bit self sabotage doesn’t it? He goes through hell last year, then leaves the team before the end of the year meeting and comes late to the off season program…his lack of effort is rediculous and makes me think there is something more going on. Not to start a rumor about anything other than I think this guy wants out. I can’t say I blame him

  211. Raider guy Says:

I think everyone is talking about Campbell but Williams is just as impressive and he has been doign it against better talent without the injury/performance questions. I think he is our first pick.

  212. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

    Guy,

Looks reasonable. But I don’t like the idea of drafting a wide receiver, cornerback and not a MLB.

Anyway, I would sellout on the offense. Get McNabb with the 2nd pick and then replace every marginal player on the offensive line.

The defense will continue to be absolute garbage…but that’s the way it is. Defense is not a priority in Oakland…at least not run defense…and I use the results of the last 7 years as evidence.

The only hope is to get way out ahead of the opponent (14 to 17 points) and force the opponent to pass so that our soft touch defense won’t have to worry about stopping the run…WHICH THEY CAN’T AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE ABLE TOO

That’s why McNabb is critical. JaDavis is not going to score…and the Gym-Rat is a marginal NFL QB that is good for 14 pts a game…that won’t get it done with our soft defense.

Need to score 28+ per game. Only McNabb is capable of leading an offense like that.

Biggest reason though, IMO, is that there is no pressure. A second rate school with no money on the line. No national attention. Just playing a little catch in the back yard.

The leaping catch in the endzone was a legit catch. Agreed.
The one handed turn around? He bobbled the ball and grabbed it as it was landing on his chest. Chances are, against a quality NFL CB, that pass would be broken up. CBs usually break up passes that are bobbled and not tucked away.
There’s no doubt he made some high quality catches. He never would have been a first round consideration if he didn’t. My point is that the warning signs were there. And if you go off a high light package then you’ll miss the total story about a player.
The scouts watch all the film on a player, even when they don’t throw the ball to him.

I HAVE DECIDED TO BECOME A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN THE YEAR 2012..
    HERE IS MY PLATFORM:

(1). Any use of the phrase: ‘Press 1 for English’ is immediately banned. English is the official language; speak it or wait outside of our borders until you can.

(2). We will immediately go into a two year isolationist attitude in order to straighten out the greedy big business posture in this country. America will allow NO imports, and we’ll do no exports. We will use the ‘Wal-Mart ’s policy, ‘If we ain’t got it, you don’t need it.’ We’ll make it here and sell it here!

(3). When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it coming in here..

(4).. All retired military personnel will be required to man one of the many observation towers located on the southern border of the United States (six month tour). They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

(5). Social Security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn’t put nuttin in, you ain’t gettin nuttin out. Neither the President nor any other politician will be able to touch it.

(6). Welfare. — Checks will be handed out on Fridays, at the end of the 40 hour school week, the successful completion of a urinalysis test for drugs, and passing grades.

(7). Professional Athletes — Steroids? The FIRST time you check positive you’re banned from sports … for life.

(8). Crime — We will adopt the Turkish method, i.e., the first time you steal, you lose your right hand. There is no more ‘life sentences’. If convicted of murder, you will be put to death by the same method you chose for the victim you killed: gun, knife, strangulation, etc.

(9). One export of ours will be allowed: wheat; because the world needs to eat. However, a bushel of wheat will be the exact price of a barrel of oil.

(10). All foreign aid, using American taxpayer money, will immediately cease and the saved money will help to pay off the national debt and, ultimately, lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, we’ll ask The American People if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision as to whether, or not, it’s a worthy cause.

(11). The Pledge of Allegiance will be said every day at school and every day in Congress.

(12). The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc.

My apology is offered if I’ve stepped on anyone’s toes …..
    nevertheless….

    GOD BLESS AMERICA !

    Sincerely, Bill Cosby

More from Snopes.com, JB, even though it doesn’t matter to you:

Just before the 2008 U.S. presidential election, Bill Cosby himself disclaimed involvement with this “write-in candidate” e-mail on his web site:
BILL COSBY IS NOT A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT

I am not a write-in candidate for President. The statement purportedly from me stating that I am a candidate is a hoax. The platform attributed to me (and at various times to Robin Williams, Andy Rooney and George Carlin) does not represent my views and in many respects is abhorrent to me. Apparently those bloggers and websites who continue to spread this hoax do not care to do even minimal fact checking.

  234. JB Says:

Now back to football. Having a real QB in here would be a good thing. However, if McNabb doesn’t want to play for Oakland, so be it. This too will pass. Actually, if we beef up both line and add a new MLB, what we have could be competitive as long as we play to our strengths and not our opponents. If our D can step up and play top 5 or even top 10 defense, we have enough, assuming good play calling, to win more than our share – especially in the weak AFC-West.

We need the big nose tackle on D and the run thumping MLB. Add to that Wimbley at one side and Scott on the other and we just might be able to stuff runs and stop passing games.

We need a new C, RG & RT or LT. I’m hoping our first pick is Pouncey-C. We need someone to replace the mop handle and Carlisle. Walker could work at the guard position if needed. Ideally, we could get someone like Mitch Petrus in the 4th round. He may go before then but you never know. Gradkowski or whoever, could operate behind a rebuilt line. Good play calling by Hue Jackson can make all the difference. Of course this all depends on what Crazy Uncle Al does in the draft.

TMZ seems to have reporters all over and they break many news stories. They were the first with the Micheal Jackson story among others. Just because they focus on celebs, doesn’t mean they are not a legit news source.

TMZ may get news stories but the are unethical in they do it. They don’t have “reporters everywhere” they have ass clown low life paparazzi everywhere or wannabe reporters who happen to snap a photo here and there if they run into a rich overexposed celeb, or athlete and SELL those photos or “newstory” for a PRICE.

1 & 2 are OK but we don’t need another WR. We can get real fast RB for PR/KR in the 7th round. I’d rather go for the much needed MLB with #3. Agree on #4 but the center we needed, Pouncey is long gone after the 1st round. To me, the center is MORE important that the tackle. He’s the QB of the O-line and makes all the blocking calls. Our last good center was Barrett Robbins. You don’t need a run blocker for DMac. He’s an in the open field runner only. He’s not worth a damn between the tackles. Just my opinion. Let him run out of the slot or on swing passes. We only need a CB if we lose Rhoutt. Otherwise all 5 level picks should be O-linemen. Again, my opinion. The 7th round is where we can find some Raider Speed RB for returns. Overall, you are going the right direction for the most part.

I’m sure Dakota, BSJ & Jhill will be here before long as well

so whats the first topic of the day gents?

  312. RaiderRockstar Says:

Dirt Lot Football. paging Dirt Lot Football

Dirt Lot Football please come to the front desk.

    your party is waiting …

  313. hwnrdr Says:

Are we still pursuing McNabb or is the words of the two officials from the front office truthful?
    Yup…3 weeks til the draft!!!

  314. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

The A.M. crowd is so much better than the p.m. politics and personal vendettas. Great group of posters.

  315. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

It not over for McNabb until Herrera says they never had any interest and Tim K. is a pot smoking idiot or words to that effect.

  316. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

I KIND OF MISS DIRT LOT’S ALL CAP POSTINGS. LOL!

  317. hwnrdr Says:

I know he was dealing with health issues, so I HOPE he’s doing okay!!!

  318. RaiderRockstar Says:

It not over for McNabb until Herrera says they never had any interest and Tim K. is a pot smoking idiot or words to that effect.

    ***

    LOL!

I certainly think the Raiders are interested, but the selling point is going to be compensation to the Eagles. I don’t think the Raiders ever would have guessed that a QB of McNabb’s calibur could be had for a 2nd rounder prior to the draft and I’m sure Davis/Cable had a player or position in mind to select there (hopefully a lineman!)

for a 3rd rounder? deal would have been done weeks ago …

  319. bcz24 Says:

    Sup RR, hwnrdr, exla, 408…

I kinda miss Norco… comic relief in the morning ya know.

  320. neilb Says:

    Sorry for being late but….

    Good morning to all.

  321. neilb Says:

    Still no DIRT-LOT ?

    or 4eva?

and where is Norco Bob ?

  322. RaiderRockstar Says:

Are we still pursuing McNabb or is the words of the two officials from the front office truthful?

    ***

what raider team officials would say anything to the media that Al Davis told them in confidence? nobody.

Like Exla points out, Herrerra is the PR guy (the voice of Al Davis is carried out through him). Until we have the name of these raider “team officials” the denial is just as bogus as the rumor that the Raiders are shopping Nnamdi Asomugha.

  323. RaiderRockstar Says:

    good morning Neil!

yeah. 4eva & Dirt Lot are a part of the original Am crew faithful. miss those guys 4 sure

    Bobby? who knows?

  324. hwnrdr Says:

I know 4eva has to escape to the library, or buy a laptop in order to jump in. Dirt Lot…like I stated earlier…I am hoping that he is ok!!! Unusual for him to disappear for about 3 weeks (?) now…

  325. hwnrdr Says:

As for Norco…he pops in and out, just like his consciosness!!!

  326. RaiderRockstar Says:

Adam Schefter reported last night that despite the denial, the Raiders are still the clear cut favorite & frontrunner to land McNabb.

said they could be waiting for the Eagles to lower their asking price, since they don’t seem overly concerned about McNabb’s roster bonus due in May or the fact that he only has 1 year left on his current contract.

smart move by the Raiders, unless of course this entire story is just horse crap!

  327. neilb Says:

    Morning Rockstar.

  328. neilb Says:

I think all the teams are waiting for McNabb to be cut.

  331. RaiderRockstar Says:

I think all the teams are waiting for McNabb to be cut.

I wonder what his top choice would be if the Vikings opted to stick behind Brett Favre (who hasn’t even committed to playing for them next season) ???

    Bills, Redskins, Rams, Jags ?

  332. neilb Says:

Actually don’t follow basketball…..just wanted to use that Superman line.

  333. RaiderRockstar Says:

    HAHA!

never heard that one before :)

  334. neilb Says:

Rockstar,I’ll go for the Rams. It’s the smart move.Someone to help Bradford in his first year.

  335. RaiderRockstar Says:

    Neil:

Lakers just lost 3 out of 5 games on the road.

next 3 games against the Jazz, Spurs & Nuggets (playoff teams)

  336. RaiderRockstar Says:

then the Lakers play Portland on 4/11

    another playoff team …

  337. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

Remember that Bynum is out and Vujacic has been benched because of an argument with the coaches for the past 2 games. I still worry that they are playing their worst when they should be peaking.

  338. neilb Says:

Sounds like if you’re a Lakers fan you might want to start thinking ’bout next season.

  339. bcz24 Says:

Given his choice McNabb has said he has interest in Arizona

  340. RaiderRockstar Says:

in 2007 Jeff Garcia said he’d sign with the Raiders if they could guarantee him they wouldn’t take a QB in Round 1. They wouldn’t do it, so he chose Tampa Bay & made the playoffs & Pro Bowl

the Raider drafted JaMarcus Russell and well, we all know how that turned out!

Donovan McNabb might tell St Louis the same thing … I don’t think he just wants to be just a 1 year stopgap mentor guy (unless he gets traded against his will to a losing them with an awful O-Line) but we were talking about if he was released which team he would actually CHOOSE

  341. RaiderRockstar Says:

Arizona has interest in a Matt Leinart/Derek Anderson QB competition though … unless a team is willing to trade for Leinart!

    very doubtful

  342. RaiderRockstar Says:

gotta meeting. be back later guys

    enjoy the day!

way too expensive considering this team doesn’t ask him to shadow the other team’s #1 WR and annually makes no attempt to address one of the league’s worst run defenses

N21’s talents are wasted in Oakland

  402. DMAC Says:

NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt believes Rutgers LT Anthony Davis could go as high as No. 8 overall or as low as the 20s.

The Raiders draft eighth, and they need a tackle. Scouts still question Davis’ attitude, strength, and weight issues, but his game tape is excellent. His private workout earlier in the week was solid enough to bring his stock back into the top-15.

nice scenario Bells. that would be a very attractive offer to the Bucs though, because Nnamdi alone is worth more than a 1st rounder!

throwing in Kelly (overpaid, but at like he’s a starter) and a 3rd rounder? Tampa Bay would be stupid to turn down that offer!

Al Davis would probably then take Suh at #3 and at #8 take Kyle Wilson (to replace Nnamdi) instead of one of the Cadillacs left on the board

they aren’t going to move down 6 spots and miss out on Suh or McCoy for a few guys like Morrison & Howard who haven’t even visited another NFL team yet and they’ve been on the market for almost a month

TB could get Antonio Pierce & Keith Bulluck in free agency for nothing. then draft one of these DT beasts

  413. M Lonetree Says:

In Cables’ mind : The ideal series

1st and 10 – The QB hands off to DMc who stumbles upon getting the ball subsequently crashing into the rear end of his RG. No gain on the play.

2nd and 10 – Wildhog formation. #20 takes a direct snap but the ball bounces off his hands to the turf. McF pounces on the ball as he is swarmed under. Loss of 4 on the play.

3rd and 14 – Shotgun formation. DMc flanks out to the right. Prior to the snap #20 goes in motion across the formation. QB passes the ball to McF out in the left flat. McF decides to take the ball wide and just as he reaches the boundary he is hit resulting in the ball being fumbled out of bounds. Gain of 4 on the play.

    4th and 10 – Lechler time.

  420. RaiderRockstar Says:

DMAC: I don’t want us to move N21 either …

but I think our defense would be a whole lot better if we addressed the run defense by drafting a big hog like Dan Williams to plug the middle of the DL at nose tackle. teams would be forced to pass. that means more opportunity for Nnamdi & others to create turnovers, especially with some sort of pass rush

but N21 as is right now is a huge waste of money, because we aren’t using him properly and the run defense is terrible so teams don’t feel the need to throw it his way or even throw it AT ALL

after long consideration I have determined the ideal position for your boy DMc.
he should be the operator of the machine that sprays the hash marks on the field.
it would be filmed and shown upon the screens of football stadiums nationwide as something akin to a Simpson’s episode. comedic relief between quarters.

DMc lines up his machine. (Spritz). As he turns his machine to next yard line he trips over the freshly painted hash mark. D’oh! and down he goes. Getting up DMc mumbles “stupid white line…”

He lines up his machine to paint the next mark and then as he turns, D’oh!. “Stupid white line…”

He’ll start at the one yard line and move down the field tripping over every hash mark he has painted, but he will only intermittently trip over the full yard lines at five yard intervals so there will be laughter and tension each week as people guess whether DMc will trip over the 25 or 45 yard line or he will remain on his feet.

he can wear his #20 jersey to make certain people recognize him.

Chiefs Offer Kirk Morrison A Contract

According to multiple sources restricted free agent linebacker Kirk Morrison has agreed to a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders has five days to match the offer, which is reportedly $45 million for four years with $13 million in guarantees.

I always thought Morrison was the best player on the Raiders defense and now he could be coming to help out the Chiefs struggling defense.

Good news on two fronts: Morrison offered a contract @ KC. We certainly can make god use of another 3rd round pick and now we know where DMac can run when we play KC.

That new pick should put us in good position to pick up Mitch Petrus, OG, in the draft:

TOP RATED NFL DRAFT SCOUT OFFENSIVE GUARDS: Mitch Petrus, Arkansas, 6-3, 310, 3-4: Keeping track of Petrus on and off the field was a significant chore. He was originally a walk-on tight end, then switched to offensive guard, then fullback and back to guard in 2007. Oh, and his first name is really Jonathan, but he goes by the short version of Mitchell, his middle name. When he finally settled in at guard, Petrus earned second-team all-SEC honors. But just when it seemed he’d found his way, Petrus missed the 2008 season because of an academic suspension. He returned for an outstanding season in 2009. The former 225-pound walk-on tied a combine record in the 225-pound bench press with 45 repetitions. – Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com/CBS Sports/USA TODAY

Besides, with our new acquisition of Wimbley & our soon to be drafted new MLB, Donald Holland, Morrison would have been back-up status at best. Thank you KC.

  492. Dakota Says:

admit it brethren, when JaM goes into pass mode your subconscious goes on alert. you watch the play unfold but your brain is thinking “don’t get sacked!” “don’t fumble!” “don’t throw an uncatchable ball!” “don’t throw a pick!” – the mind barely registers that the play will result in a completed pass.

same goes for a pitch or hand-off to DMc – first thought is “hold onto the ball!”

I am prepairing to hear “we have a trade, and with the 4th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Oakland Raider select Eric Berry”

In my mind I will here it this way ” We have another dum azz trade by Al Davis, and with the 4th pick Al Davis thinks he is slecting Ed Reed”

Oh, and Dmac stays. For now.

I hope the injury thing is just bad luck on his part, because he was very durable at Arkansas and his being banged up has obviously affected his performance here.

So, maybe he has a better year, health-wise, and we can see what we have. Besides, with the money he makes it’s not like somebody else is going to pick up his contract or anything.

  531. r8dr4lfe21 Says:

Good almost afternoon Nation, the only Nation.
Dmac is a good back, i just think he is not suited for the zone blocking system.
He is an instinctive runner and cannot get to fullspeed if he has to cut back. That takes away his speed, he needs to hit the hole and go as he see’s it.
Also having a fullback in there with the zone blocking just plugs the hole even more.
He and Mbush would benifit from a power running attack, like Wheatley and Garner.

My plan would be to get McNabb and coach Reid for our first rounder. Since Reid wants McNabb and the eagles dont, why not? and he is also a GM.

So. Hue Jackson was hired, in Tom Cable’s words, to “score points”. He is responsible for the offense and performance of same.

Tom Cable, in addition to “dominating the locker room”, is also responsible for phasing out the ZBS and installing a more power-oriented blocking scheme. (Just my guess; also a theory of mine that this is one of the reasons he was/was not going to be the head coach in 2010. Al said “This is what I want, and you can stay and help implement it or you can pack your bags.”)

Now, with Fargas gone, there is to be a competition between Bush and Dmac to determine who the “feature back” will be (also Al, in my view).

A”l” will pick Dez Bryant because he can

    ===================

Bryants much anticipated Pro day yielded a 40 time no better than a 4.52 and we took a wide at 7 in the 1st last year, plus Murphy showed signs of growth and Chaz Schilens gets one more chance to prove he can play 16 games.

I know you were kidding, but still…

Heres why I think Bryant could be the Brady Quinn of this draft besides not being prepped for his Pro day and off field issues.

Terrell Owens and Brandon Marshall are still in play.

Someone may take a flyer ( I hope its Denver so they get fugged by another WR.) but Bryant’s red flags are likey for cause.

I’m all for picking OL in 3rd and 4th if even for depth but those guys may not start right away

    ***

I think Matthew Tennant, Ciron Black, Jason Fox & Kyle Calloway can start right away … just my opinion though

    ^^^^^^^^
I’m high on Black and Calloway. They are big and play with power and give move in a power ZBS or a counter or man blocking scheme.

Tennant is solid….but he is weighs less than 300 pounds and Fox barely weighs 300.

The Raiders need bigger and more powerful O-Linemen who are mobile for their size.
