Get ready for Bruce Campbell?

Share

Checked out 50 mock drafts this morning, and the overwhelming choice at No. 8 for the Raiders was Maryland offensive tackle and combine warrior Bruce Campbell.

Here were the results:

T Bruce Campbell, Maryland 23
T Trent Williams, Oklahoma 8
T Anthony Davis, Rutgers 3
DE Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida 3
DE Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech 3
T Bryan Bulaga, Iowa 2
S Taylor Mays, USC 2
RB C.J. Spiller Clemson 1
DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska 1
DT Gerald McCoy Oklahoma 1
DT Dan Williams Tennessee 1
DT Brian Price, UCLA 1
CB Joe Haden, Florida 1

None of them had Campbell going above No. 8, and virtually every one made mention of Al Davis’ love for the biggest and fastest, even at the expense of the ability to actually play football.

Much of the Campbell buzz is generated by combine coverage during which the Maryland tackle was singled out as a shoe-in Raider by virtually everyone wired with a microphone, noting the Maryland connection with Darrius Heyward-Bey last year.

For what it’s worth, NFL.com’s Mike Mayock, who may be the most respected NFL talent analyst in the media (he had Heyward-Bey ticketed to Oakland before anyone else last year) doesn’t list Campbell in his top 20 overall players.

Mayock has Campbell tied for fifth with USC’s Charles Brown in the rankings at left tackle, trailing Russell Okung (Oklahoma State), Bulaga, Williams and Davis.

    TRADE NOTICE:

Lions get starting guard Rob Sims + Seattle’s 7th rounder

Seaturds get DE Robert Henderson (who?) + Lion’s 5th rounder

    ***

wow. we probably could have replaced Cooper Carlisle in the starting lineup by trading Greyson Gunheim and our 2nd pick in Round 5 to Seattle!
    ————————————————–

Sorry to disappoint you but the whole reason Seattle got rid of their starting RG was cause he didnt fit the ZBS Coach Pete Carroll is implementing along with Cable tutor OL coach ALex Gibbs the master of ZBS. Regardless what many of you guys think, ZBS is what we will be implementing as long as Coach Cable is the headmaster and OL coach. Nevertheless, there are better options to replace Cooper, there is Texans RG Chester Pitts if he gets healthy by training camp.

Hell no. Unless they throw something else in….like say Jason Campbell…

  • I don’t get the whole “we need to trade Haynesworth” because we are going to a 3-4 talk.

The guy is arguable the best interior lineman in football. Any defense that can’t use that, is not a good defense, IMO.

  • Vegas,

Haynesworth wants to play end if they switch to a 3-4….he wants to be able to go after the QB. They want him to play NT and just stuff up the middle all day with very few opportunities to kill the QB.

You really don’t see the issue there?

Cable had no business calling plays was the point.
didnt assume anything, also of note, how do you keep running when your oline sucks, you have zero QB play, and D’s stack 8 in the box??? How are you going to “keep doing that”…..

    Illogical…..

Albert Haynesworth is only 28 years old. 6’6″ 350 lbs

perfect nose tackle if we can get him for a 2nd rounder.

I want Jason Campbell too, so try and get both players for our 1st rounder instead!

    ===================================================

My feeling is you draft one of the marquee left tackles and move Henderson to the right side, with Barnes backing up both positions. Right there you have your biggest problems on the offensive line solved with just one move. To me, Henderson is more suited to the right side. He seems to be a better run blocker, is one of the those “looks good coming off the bus” players, but he tends to lose focus at times. With DE’s that are 6’6″ 270lbs and run 4.8 forties, you can’t lose focus. Problem is Henderson may be too small to play the right side.

  • In addition to the Redskins having to pay Haynesworth a $21 million dollar bonus a few days ago, they also have to pay DeAngelo Hall a $15 million dollar bonus soon too….

How the fuk is that POS still collecting that kind of money?

  • maddenraiderfan

Seymour Bush and jhill, Hey guys, hope all is well. Question what do you guys think of the wimbley trade?
    =======================================================

Thec07 I think this is a very good trade. Again, everyone seems to get it wrong. They see our run D at the bottom of the heap and immediately blame the DT’s. Wrong. Our run defense actually played pretty well most of the time. Then either a) the big play would come or b) they would bust a run around the edge for 10-20 yards. Wimbley puts some pretty good beef on the edge and the problem with him in Cleveland was they needed a better RDE for him to play behind. Can you say Richard Seymour? Putting him and Trev Scott on the outside bolsters BOTH the run defense and since BOTH are VERY solid pass rushers creates some problems for opposing OC’s.

  • Ryan

I think the Redskins would be intersted in Nnamdi. Shanarat, after all, did trade for Champ.

As much as I like Nnamdi, I would sure love to see a top notch DT make the Raiders one of the best Run Defenses.

We are only talking about maybe 10 or 12 plays going to the replacement CB per game anyway. Not to mention how much Nnamdi will cost next year.

Actually, I found Cable’s play calling in the Cleveland game the worst of the year…you are playing one of the worst run defenses, and you are starting your 3rd string QB and you throw twice as much as run in the first half? You let Frye throw 45 passes? Jezuz cripes!

Al should have dropped Otto’s wheelchair on Cable’s head right before halftime and saved us all…

Please Al, let Hue make all the calls. Cable is only good for timeout calling during games, well, he did call a TO when the kicker missed that one time, so maybe you should just let Cable give the pre-game speech?

  • Dakota,

I see the issue, but it sounds like more of Skins issue than Haynesworth.

“He wants to go after the QB”? Well shyt he is one of the best at doing that, why wouldn’t a team let him?

That’s my point, they knew what they got when they signed him, and one year $20 million later, they want to either trade him or ask him to change positions?

Man, Al Davis would have to work to screw something up as badly as that.

Flawed plan. Henderson is NOT a good run blocker. He needs Gallery to even look adequate. He was drafted to be a LT based on supposed pass blocking talent.

  • Vegas, I think you are correct….let the man play DE and kill the QB. Find someone else to plug up the middle.
