Defensive lineman Chris Cooper, who has played for San Francisco, Dallas and Seattle and Arizona since leaving the Raiders following the 2003 season, signed as a free agent Tuesday, according to Raiders.com.
An end in his first go-round with Oakland, where he was nicknamed “Baby Howie” because he bore a physical resemblance to Hall of Famer Howie Long and wore No. 75, Cooper was identified as a tackle on the Raiders transaction page.
The Raiders are thin at tackle after cutting Gerard Warren, with only Tommy Kelly, Desmond Bryant and William Joseph on the roster.
Cooper is the first Raiders player to sign who wasn’t with the club last year.
Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley was acquired by trade from Cleveland.
