Campbell reportedly gets extension
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 24th, 2010 at 10:22 am in Oakland Raiders.
Jason Campbell negotiated a contract extension, according to the NFL Network, which would pay him $4.5 million in 2011.
The favorite to be the Raiders starters, it seems unlikely the Raiders would pay JaMarcus Russell $9.45 million to hold a clipboard this season.

It will be quite sad as Al forces Jamarcus to go through the motions this preseason. They will waddle ish large azz out there in the 3rd quarter of these games, and he won’t be much better. Maybe throw one last worthless TD before he fades into oblivion.
Way to go Russell, way to ruin such a wonderful opportunity.

I guess the old dog couldn’t take the constant humiliation and retired to the Regis Filbin blog.
Somewhere where folks can commiserate with his problem holding down oatmeal. Where being married to an old bat with a bowl cut is considered a “step up”.
Krappy, even though you’re a lifelong loser, I gotta admit, I kind of miss you, ol buddy.
Who are we going to kick around now? Darn!
Oh yeah and a heck of a draft – plus Jason Campbell? Get a center or guard in the 6th or Pike to groom.

Amen to getting a vet QB…the only wining formmula the Raiders have ever known. Even the Snake had to grow into a winner.
RRS & Bri@n: The Giants w/Waufle had a dominant D-line without a 340 pounder in the middle. It can work if you have the depth, and it looks like we may be close.
Now will some team pick up Gerard Warren?

So far, a pretty good draft. We still need a dt, but i will say this: Our run d problems were magnified by how long our d was on the field. Hopefully with campbell we will have the ball longer and give our d a chance to regroup

It takes him 3 years, 3 YEARS to figure out things that it takes coaches like Lane Kiffin 5 seconds to figure out.

April 24th, 2010 at 10:32 am
The Washington media is talking about Campbell being sent from one dysfunctional franchise to an even worse one, etc., and while there’s some truth to that, I really think Campbell is very lucky. He’s going to get a fresh start on a team that looks to have a good defense and a bunch of offensive weapons. Could be a real Cinderella story for him when it’s said and done.

Travis Ivey a DT from Maryland lsted at6-4, 325 is still available, I believe. The Sporting News draft gude lists his strenghts as: Is tall and well built.Has lower body strength to drive blockers into back field. Has long arms to knock down passes and disrupt throwing lanes.
This guy could still be added to bolster DT depth. Could be a nice pick,IMO.

GG, was Kiffin right 3 years ago when he was against Russell? You know, it’s funny…we had a head coach here 3 years ago who knew all of the negatives about Russell that it’s taken Al 3 years to figure out. And the difference between Cable and Kiffin? Kiffin TRIED to stand up to Al and block the move. HE didn’t just role with it and watch the team tank year after year. He risked getting fired to speak his mind and tell Al what was best for the team. For those of you who are glad Russell is likely out the door, Lane Kiffin was fighting for you 3 YEARS AGO. The thanks he gets.

Since it’s looking like I won’t get my Haynesworth wish… and we STILL don’t have a big run-stuffing DT (our biggest need)… I wonder if Wauffle will find a way to trade for Jay Alford. I know he’s shown himself to be more of a pass-rusher, but it will be weird to see a Raiders “ALFORD” jersey other than the ones I had made at NFLshop.com. It cost over $230 to get each one of those… so I’m hoping if we get Jay, I can get one of him for around $150 since he’ll be a rotational player. I wouldn’t mind wearing a DL number if I can save a bit of cash… after the robbery, I have to cut back on frivolous purchases for two weeks. Who am I kidding… I need more stuff! *goes internet shopping*

Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2010 1:38 PM ET
Even though Matt Millen no longer is in position to screw up a war room on draft day, he still has found a way to do something stupid during the league annual selection meeting.
Earlier today, Millen called ESPN colleague Ron Jaworski a “Polack” while on the air.
Moments ago, Millen apologized for making the remark, explaining that the comment reflected his close, collegial relationship with Jaworski.
And then Millen tried to draft a receiver on behalf of ESPN.

I’ll gve him props for being right after the fact….in that same press conference he also said how Kiffin liked all 3 of the aforementioned players and switched frequently between who he wanted at #1. Props to Kiffin for being right after being wrong on Jmarcus, for being wrong on Mike Williams, and for being a quitter. Cable is a stand up guy and this draft shows what can happen when the coach and Al Davis work together on a plan.

April 24th, 2010 at 10:47 am

April 24th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Pete, you don’t have to admit Kiffin was right about Russell. He was. It’s provable. Al Davis is on video saying Kiffin wanted him, Al Davis just signed a QB and gave him an extension. I don’t need your concession to make my point. You can either agree, or fight with it and look stupid. So, no deal.

It’s about time Al Davis realized what Lane Kiffin tried to tell him 3 years ago. If Al would have just listened to Kiffin, someone who obviously understands today’s NFL more than he does, the process of rebuilding this franchise would be much further along that it is now, which is pretty much square 1.
========================================================
Kiffin is also partly the reason we drafted Jamarcus and sold Al on him, Quinn, and CJ
________________________________________________________
severeraiderz, what a load of crap, Kiffin hated the JaMarcus pick, and when Al fired Kiffin it was a huge part and it was even written by Al on the overhead projector..
============================================================
He hated the pick after he got Russell in campp, not before the pick was made.

2 million is back-up money.
4 million is “we’ll give you a chance, let’s see if you can be the long term answer,” money.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:49 am
I love how anything great that happens is thanks to marshal and Hue, but anything bad is Al’s fault…

April 24th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Jason Campbell shares some traits with Joe Flacco and Carson Palmer, all of them are big, pocket passers with strong arms, Flacco and Campbell are a more athletic than Palmer is but overall, they are similar in skill set.
Hue Jackson coached Flacco and Palmer before, now he gets Jason Campbell to work with at a much more advanced stage in his development than Flacco was when he got him and obviously Campbell has not yet accomplished the success Palmer has, but I think Jackson should be able to make Campbell feel comfortable right away.
I can’t find a flaw about this move, of course, Campbell hasn’t played a snap yet but things are looking up for this team.

April 24th, 2010 at 10:50 am
He hated him from the start, Al said so himself, Kiffin only said he was glad of the Jammy pick, because Al told him Kiffin to say that…

April 24th, 2010 at 10:51 am
Anybody else want to try and say that Kiffin was the one who wanted Russell? One person thought about it, but wisely changed their tune. I’ve got a ton of evidence, video included, for anyone who wants to go there. I know you Davis guys. If there’s one, there’s another. Come on.

April 24th, 2010 at 10:51 am
RMR,
I don’t know what went on inside Raiders HQ, but I believe that Kiffin arguing his case NOT to draft Russell… and then complaining about having him… was the reason that Kiffin said “Screw it” and stopped trying to coach the team, instead trying to figure out how to get out of town and further his career. I liked Kiffin as a coach… and wish that we had never drafted JR and never fired Kiffin. That being said, the way Kiffin handled things after we DID draft JR… well, he seems to have been acting like a child, leaking things to the media (true and untrue) and being sneaky, trying to get fired, then going off to Tennessee until a better position came up at USC. I hated that he went to UT because I’m a Kentucky fan and I wanted to support him, but blood allegiances to the big blue prevented that. Then he showed that he didn’t really care about Tennessee anyway, so now I’m somewhat torn. Either way, he did bad by the franchise by refusing to make the best of a bad situation when he was handed JR… but he was definitely right about it being a bad pick (as was I, mothefukkers).

From ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft10/news/story?id=5132638
The Oakland Raiders, after making a deal that shipped out their leading tackler for the past four years, added a possible starting quarterback Saturday in a deal with the Washington Redskins for Jason Campbell.
In acquiring Campbell, the Raiders added a year to his existing contract, the quarterback told ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley. He will make $4.5 million in 2011.
“I look at this as getting to start over,” Campbell told Mosley. “I talked to Mr. Davis, and he wanted me for two years. He wants me to help their team to a new level.”
Campbell had already signed the Redskins’ tender offer worth $3.1 million for 2010.
When asked if he was promised the starting position, Campbell said he “got that feeling.”
“I’m going to work hard to make sure that happens,” Campbell said.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:52 am
If you wanted Clausen before the draft started thats cool but pissing & moaning after we added Campbell added a MLB, DE, 2 OL, and WR it seems like your kind of a dum a$$.

I think Al Davis should offer JaWalrus $4 million this year, down from his original $9.5 million (since $3 million is guaranteed anyways)
if he balks, he’s out …
let’s find out how bad he actually wants to EARN the job this offseason

April 24th, 2010 at 10:52 am
GO RAIDERS. Man I feel good about this draft other than the MCfadden pick. But we do need a zero shade /1 tech DT, FB and a OG.
