UPDATE: Jason Campbell deal done?
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 24th, 2010 at 9:39 am in Oakland Raiders.
The NFL Network is reporting the Raiders are in talks for a potential trade for quarterback Jason Campbell.
Campbell was displaced when Washington signed Donovan McNabb.
UPDATE: The NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora said he was told in a text by Campbell he was traded to the Raiders. Both the NFL Network and ESPN are saying the deal is done. Nothing from Raiders as yet, but that’s not unusual.

April 24th, 2010 at 9:40 am
if we do this, then this is a fantastic 2nd day.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:40 am
Yes, but for what is the question? Running out of picks to trade
April 24th, 2010 at 9:40 am
Hopefully it’s some sort of conditional deal

We gonna get Jason Campbell….you happy now?
====================================================
Yup — nice to see the Raiders see things my way. Told you we needed a lot of help
Gradkowski is not the answer
our run defense was garbage and needed immediate attention…
I was right
April 24th, 2010 at 9:41 am
Look for Haynesworth to be part of that deal. Print that kids.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:41 am
No problems with this draft. After last it year it could have gone:
1. Campbell
2. Ford
3. Smithers*
* Ernie Smithers, University of Phoenix
Negatives: Not a football player, actually is Al Davis’ driver. Has 3 tickets for driving too slow in the fast lane and misses spots when waxing the car.
Positives: Nobody better at getting those weird stains out of the upholstery left in the back seat.
So it really could be worse.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:42 am
Jerry,
Please ask Tom Cable if the big DT we need is on the roster or if they plan on rotating Seymour inside.
It doesn’t make sense to this layman to have a boss MLB like McClain and NOTHING upfront to help him
April 24th, 2010 at 9:43 am
McFadden was an all-SEC HONORABLE MENTION…
thought i would MENTION it…
April 24th, 2010 at 9:43 am
On Walter Mcfadden:
An All-SEC CB is hardly a project or a UFA prospect, McFadden will see the field this year and give Stanford Routt a fight for the 3rd CB spot, McFadden seem’s better suited to cover the slot than Routt, who is pretty good outside.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:43 am
we pick again at 153…
trade up Al… Cam Thomas…
this guy !!!
Cam Thomas, North Carolina
Height: 6-4. Weight: 330.
Projected 40 Time: 5.14.
Combine 40 Time: 5.27.
Benchx225: 31. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
1/31/10: Cam Thomas had a great Senior Bowl performance, prompting Mike Mayock to say that Thomas may not escape out of the second round.
1/28/10: In a weak nose tackle draft, the rankings can be pretty fluid. With a great week, Cam Thomas may have established himself as the No. 3 nose in the 2010 NFL Draft. Details available in the 2010 Senior Bowl section.
1/26/10: Had 23 tackles and 2.5 TFL.

Albert Haynesworth and Jason Campbell stayed away Friday as the Washington Redskins opened their first minicamp under new coach Mike Shanahan.
Haynesworth is unhappy with the prospect of playing nose tackle in the team’s switch to a 3-4 defense. He has also chosen to do his offseason conditioning workouts away from Redskins Park, a move that displeased Shanahan.
The Redskins have explored trades with several teams for Haynesworth. If they are going to make a deal, they would like to have it in place before next week’s draft.
The same goes for Campbell, who was pushed down the quarterbacks depth chart when the Redskins traded for Donovan McNabb earlier this month. Shanahan has said he would welcome Campbell back to the team, but Campbell wants to find a club that would give him a genuine chance to compete for a starting job.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:45 am
If he’s a true Boss, he can deal with an occasional lineman getting to him
April 24th, 2010 at 9:46 am
“Finally getting the starting job for all 12 games in 2008, McFadden had two interceptions and eight pass breakups.
He then finished his career with a second-team All-SEC senior season, intercepting six passes and breaking up 10 others in addition to making 46 tackles, 4.5 for loss.
McFadden could be one of this year’s first non-Combine participants to be drafted, given his production and the 4.4 speed he displayed at his campus pro day.
His slight frame may make some teams wary, but he seems to be a nice fit at least as a nickel back – and maybe more – at the next level.”

April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
What if we get campbell and haynesworth ???
April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
McClain isn’t a sissy fashion-diva.
He will crack skulls and improve this run team. Get guys lined up better, and we added another 300 pound playmaker along the D-line.
This run D will be greatly improved with a new MLB, a new D-lineman to rotate in, and an improved offense.
Next year we can take an elite DT. Pick #145 wasn’t going to make that big of a difference at DT as a rookie anyways.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
Rockstar,
The Raiders have to learn by seeing. When McClain is very average and the big runs continue….they will then have NT as their pick in the 2nd round next year.
Or, I would just go ahead and trade that 2nd rounder next year for Haynesworth and be done with it.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
guys named Walter & McFadden haven’t done that well in Oakland.
Cam Thomas replaces Jamal Williams in SD, for a 5th rounder!
this kid is gonna be a beast. i’m telling you right now
April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
SnB,
You should really settle down, bro. You are frustrated that we’re not taking certain guys and you don’t even know what kind of defense we’re going to run next year.
Waufle didn’t have the big fat NT in New Yawk and the Giants did fine against teams that run the ball a hell of a lot better than the AFC West does.
Our front seven is actually starting to look more like theirs.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:47 am
LEFEVOUR i still want him. We’re running out of picks now too. Our draft will be over too soon. Hopefully we give them dead weight players than picks.
LeFevour, will be a good’un. There are others here who would agree with me on that.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:48 am
That would give us a legitimate QB, we NEED to get him
he is a starter, with experience, a guy who can stay healthy and pass for over 3500 yards

Mike Mayock, NFL Network
146 — Chargers — DT Cam Thomas
What a great opportunity for Thomas. I expected him to go in the third round because he has tremendous size for a NT and played well at the Senior Bowl. However, his lack of consistent play and effort at North Carolina pushed him down draft boards. He has starting ability at nose tackle, and will get an opportunity to compete immediately for the starting job.
April 24th, 2010 at 9:52 am
Thec07,
I was agreeing with your post. We needed (past tense) Cam Thomas (now with the mf’n Chargers)…and I was pointing out the extreme lightweights at the position now and the Raiders penchant to go cheap at that position.
Should have said William Joseph..not Thomas…misprint
April 24th, 2010 at 9:52 am
SnB,
Relax man. It’s a great draft! If Cam Thomas was so great, then why did he last to the 5th?! He played well at the Sr bowl and the combine, but didn’t do much at college.

Regarding Bruce Campbell’s freakish numbers, athletic ability, but lack of refinement (or perhaps lack of ability) at OT …
Aren’t those kind of freakish athletes usually DE’s these days? It’s been a long time since Mr. Davis converted Billy Cannon, and several others since then. That kind of fun stuff doesn’t happen much any more, but wouldn’t that make an interesting story …

I am good with most of this draft. But getting McClain, without the big guy upfront to help him is like buying an uber expensive HD Big Screen TV and not getting HD channels or buying the surround sound
You have to buy the “accessories” to make that expensive purchase worth it.

April 24th, 2010 at 10:00 am
it’s the end of the world!!!! we didn’t get a mid-5th rd DT passed over and over by every team when NTs are supposedly so valuable.
The fact is the Raiders have THREE CBs on the roster. You can’t field a team with three CBs. This is the 5th rd. What you want is a nickel/dime back who fits your scheme and plays special teams, if he develops into more than that it’s gravy. This guy fits the bill. Would have been nice to get AO-A, but that’s the way things go.
Anybody who says Oak doesn’t desperately need a returner like Ford needs to go back and watch the Raiders on kickoff returns last year. Jonathan Holland returned kicks like a girl. Gary Russell slowly ran in a straight line to the 15 yard line and went down easy. And Higgins was absolutely embarrassingly horrible as a PR. We wasted a roster spot on Miller last year and he never even played.
Sure we got Yamon Figurs but he’s a waste of a roster spot as well. He’s not a WR (3 career receptions) and as for his return skills, there’s a reason he’s on his fourth team after three seasons.
And Ford has some potential as a slot receiver. After Shillinz, Murphy, DHB, there is no one. JLH I suppose but he was terrible as a receiver, no upside.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:00 am

Edteach is totally right about Wauffle, Robbins and Alford were sold D-line men, not 400 lb mountains, and Mcclain is better than Pierce in the middle anyday of the week. Between Kelly, Seymour, Bryant, Richardson who could swith inside on occasion, they have plenty of inside D-line depth to eat up the blockers. Get of this Cam’s guy jock, it’s embarrasing.

This kid Campbell had 9 diff offensive coordinators in 9 years. He even had a diff OC every year he was at Auburn. He never had a real opportunity to shine for a consistent coach. April 24th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Hey Kool Kell maybe we can go co-list Jamarcus’s Home in Oakland.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Campbell will be the starter.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Knock with Campbell is that he just goes with the flow, not a whole lot of fire.
We need fire. He needs to add that to his game, and he could be a tad worse than he has been and we will be fine.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
Thank You Al
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
BSPN and the NFL Network guys have been raving about the raiders picks. They all have said that the raiders are not a bad team and that cable has done a good job of stabilizing things in oakland. They also said that with a quarterback, the raiders could be a decent team. Now we got the quarterback.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
he has improved every year, and been seviceable, behind a less that average line
biggest bounus turnover rate
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
You should want the best man to win the job.

personally I want bruce to start over campbell
Thats true ive just never liked how campbell played. doesnt take enough shots looks afraid to hurt his numbers. but hey at least jamarcus is out!
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
The competition will be intense.
Good!
A 60%+ QB would do wonders for this offense
April 24th, 2010 at 10:11 am
lets get more QBs…
lets trade for Big Ben and Tavaris Jackson…
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am
I hate it when they pick nickel or dime CB’s in this spot when a solid physical Guard prospect like Chris Scott could have been had or a fat NT type like C Thomas could have been had!
Grrrrrrr……
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am
I think having the Draft at night was great.Al is alive and alert then.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am

The day the Raiders become an AFC playoff team.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am
We gave them 4th round pick in 2011
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am
“Cable must have punched out Al again.”
Too funny!
Campbell is a good QB. I would rather have him than McNabb. Still young, and QBs get better with age.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:13 am
Have you been asleep for 3 weeks? The Redskins signed D McNabb.

LOL
April 24th, 2010 at 10:14 am
ok
So what did we trade or give up for Jason Campbell?
April 24th, 2010 at 10:14 am
And we all dead in 2012 anyway so we got him for free. Word.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:15 am
2011 or 2012?
April 24th, 2010 at 10:15 am
Not trying to piss on anyone’s cheerios. I fully endorse getting Campbell, a former 1st rounder, for later round picks. We NEED the competition.
But the 2007 year and beyond worries me with Campbell. In 2007, the Skins were 5-7 with him, he got hurt and Todd Collins came in and they went 4-0!!!! Squeked into the playoffs with Campbell on crutches.
Next two years Campbell comes in and starts everygame, and again they have been below .500
I worry about his ability to lead.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:15 am
WHAT DID HE EAT pLUNK???? THE WEIGHTS lol

I know they traded for mcnabb, but what is the knock on campbell, why didn’t the redskins want him? Or did they just give up on him. If I remember, he Campbell lit us up in the coliseum when the redskins beat us last year
April 24th, 2010 at 10:17 am
He’s had to face all kinds of adversity and play for a jerk owner like Snyder who would rather have Tom Cruise on the sidelines than build stability. It’s a new day in the Black Hole baby!!!!!!!
McFadden will have a great year this year…..Great year….mark my words……
April 24th, 2010 at 10:17 am
I love the picks (IRON MAN BRUCE in the 4th is the ultimate SLAP IN THE FACE to Kiper & co.), goodbye JaCarcus.
Any word on what we’ve given up for him? I love how they report it then skip the details and go immediately to the cardinals trade w/ Steelers.

Hey everyone….on a scale of one to ten, how much do you like our picks so far this year? i will give it a 7. We started off well by filling alot of needs and bruce campbell was good value in the 4th, but we really needed a dt.
April 24th, 2010 at 10:26 am
