It sucks that I’m only old enough to see two of these players in their prime.
Does that say more about me or the team over the last 25 years
April 27th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
Hope it’s true Bigz. Have to admit tho that there is a part of me that wanted to see Russell make it. That arm … what a waste… oh well. Time to move on…

Here is some more for the list,

We were 5-11 last season with no OC, no QB (sorry Vegas), bad OL, and a below avg rushing attack. We added 2 OTs, a Vet QB (who has more TDs than INTs, and completed over 60% of his passes), a DE/DT, and an OC.
We did improve!!
BTW, Campbell has a career rating of 82.3!
…………
5-11

No G Atkinson?!

I am not really sure who is the best out of those 3, but Campbell has had to do the most, with the least…
———————-
Really? I’m not trying to knock Campbell, but Aaron Rodgers has emerged as one of the best QBs in the NFL. I’d put him right at No. 4 behind Manning, Brees and Brady.
+=++=
really…
—————-
Definitely. Rodgers is coming off back-to-back 4,000 yard seasons with a QB rating of about 98.5 over that time. Those were his first two seasons as a starter.
He’s averaging over 4,200 yards, 29 TDs and 10 INTs over that span while being one of the best scrambling QBs in the NFL. He’s playing behind a garbage offensive line and GB has a below average rushing attack. He hasn’t obviously had the career of a Favre, Roethlisberger or probably some others near the top of the heap, but right now for 2010 I’d have him no lower than No. 4 and I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s looking better than Brady after this season.
You could make a case for Rivers or Roethlisberger or even Favre based on last year’s numbers, but my eye tells me Rodgers is a sharper, crisper QB who will challenge for the MVP this season.
April 27th, 2010 at 10:09 pm
Where’s Anthony Dorsett?
I can’t believe he didn’t make the list.
Or Torin Dorn?
Man, this list is BS!!!

I just did a google search. A hundred articles about Russell being released, then a few where Cable is saying that Russell will compete with Campbell for the starting job. Cable’s really got his finger on the pulse, doesn’t he? Al Davis’s head coach is lower than the f’n fans on the totem poll. What a joke this organization is.
April 27th, 2010 at 10:10 pm
Yeah! Where’s Lyle Alzado? Vann McELroy & Sean Jones…Townsend is the Raiders all time leader in Sacks I believe

QB Jamarcus Russell.
April 27th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Man i watched that sports science segment with bruce campbell OMG that guys is a beast. They simulated a tackle pulling and he generated 2700lbs of force with his hit! Then he stopped a swinging 300lb bag without even being stood up.

How could the top 20 not include MLB Dan Conners?????
April 27th, 2010 at 10:24 pm
I do think we’re going to see some big, big plays if Campbell does indeed win the starting job. Probably the best aspect of his game is throwing an accurate deep ball and if Cable isn’t just blowing smoke about DHB being dramatically better, we could have a half-dozen WRs who can take it to the house on any play (Schilens, Murphy, DHB, JLH, Ford and Nick Miller). There’s not a guy in that bunch who doesn’t run a sub 4.4.
April 27th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
John Matuzak over Chester. Ben Davidson too. Heck, how about a Top 10 Raider Defenders Better Than McGlockton?
Tooz
Ben D
Otis S
Phil Villipiano

Bill Pikel
Biekert (Mr Underrated)

Vann McElroy
April 27th, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Humm wasn’t nearly as bad as those others. As much as most hated Schweigert,he wasn’t nearly as bad as Gibson and Bates or Dorsett for that matter. He did lead the team in tackles something like 3 years in a row.

agree with first six, after that Mr. Ben Davidson should be at 7, Mr. Vann McElroy at 8, with Mr. Woodson & Mr. Asomugha tied at 10, (Nnamdi has the opportunity to climb the list).
Who at #9 you say.
Well the one that head coach Chuck Knox said, [paraphrased] “He accounts for 45 yard original line of scrimmage disadvantage to the Raider’s opponents every game.”
That would be Mr. Ray Guy, his special teams set up the Raider defense for years, he earned his name on the top ten list as well as the NFL Hall of Fame!

Not one person here mentioned Greg Townsend.I would take him over Chester anytime.I met him in Hawaii and I said to him I loved the way he always chased Elway down either sacked him or shoved Elway down right when he threw the ball away and he could not not stop laughing with me at that thought.

All Time Raider Worst QBs (must have played)
Donald Hollis
Aaron Brooks
Todd Marinovich
Marques Tui
Wade Wilson
A Walter
J McCown
and the Worst – JaRussell
———————————
Hostetler and Schroeder didnt do much…..I must admit though,i was a fan of BILLY JOE HOBERT
I will add Rusty Hilger to the list. And for those who remember, Marc Wilson was just about as hated as Jamumbles is now. Al started Wilson over Plunkett most of the 1981 season even though Plunkett won the Super Bowl over the Eagles the previous year and was the starting QB virtually the whole season after Pastorini was hurt. And Plunkett would of course go on to win another Super Bowl, while Al messed around with putting Wilson in the starting lineup off and on during those years. Wilson truly sucked.

1. Nnamdi Asomugha
2. Richard Seymour
3. Michael Huff
4. Tyvon Branch
5. Trevor Scott
6. Kamerion Wimbley
7. Matt Shaughnessy
8. Chris Johnson
9. Tommy Kelly

I dont think the Raiders wanted to pay Faneca 2.5 mil to back up Gallery. They dont seem too interested in signing veteran FA’s in general.

BCZ: I know that Faneca plays LG (like Gallery).
I’d be willing to pay him $4 million to start at RG instead. plus Gallery had multiple injuries last year, including offseason back surgery!
April 28th, 2010 at 6:29 am
Two things I agree with; Dan Conners, and the poster that said that maybe Rod Martin being there is more the product of a single game performance.
Maybe Conners instead of Rod Martin, but I also think Dave Grayson deserves a mention. One of the Raiders’ first true shutdown corners, and a memeber of the AFL’s All-Time team.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:30 am
Jason Campbell wore #17 for the Redskins.
I think he’ll wear that in Oakland too
right between #15 Higgins & #18 Murphy
April 28th, 2010 at 6:30 am
Greg Townsend definitely belongs on this list.
Take out Woodson, the most over-rated Raider ever.
A good case could be made for Sistrunk and Ben Davidson, but McGlockton would have to come out for one of them. Tough call.
The rest of the list is hard to touch. Boy, do I miss Rod Martin. What a player. No one ran to his side. He would drop the ball carrier for a loss before the blocker got to him.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:33 am

Agreed. C-Wood was a prima donna in Oakland.
I remember that game against Chicago when he got TRUCKED by Kordell Stewart.
I haven’t seen that happen to Nnamdi Asomugha … especially by a scramblin’ QB!
April 28th, 2010 at 6:37 am

April 28th, 2010 at 6:39 am
Two things I agree with; Dan Conners, and the poster that said that maybe Rod Martin being there is more the product of a single game performance.

Conners was a solid run-stuffer for 5 or 6 years. Rod Martin is an all-time great, one of the best defensive players of his era. There is no comparison. I’m sure Connors himself would agree.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:40 am
I would say Woodson would be a coaching issue then, because he has been STELLAR with GB.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:41 am
Worst QB after Marc Wilson….Vince Evans.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:42 am

That is an excellent point. Woodson has been the player with Green Bay that he was supposed to be, but never was, with the Raiders. His production with the Packers says a lot about the Raiders’ recent troubles.
April 28th, 2010 at 6:46 am
in all fairness, C-Wood had a few severe cases of turf toe in Oakland that slowed him down a bit and the multiple franchise tags probably p1ssed him off instead of motivated him like Peppers & Haynesworth.
by the time he got to Green Bay i’m sure he matured some. I haven’t read about him being late to meetings or a clown in the locker room out there
April 28th, 2010 at 6:47 am
ROD MARTIN, THE REAL MVP OF SUPER-BOWL XV !!
April 28th, 2010 at 6:51 am
C-Wood was a Raider up until 2005.
2003-2005 the Raiders were an AWFUL football team.
Randy Moss was here in 2005 & 2006.
both players really just dogged it in Oakland to get outta town … despite the money they were making
April 28th, 2010 at 6:52 am
Rockstar,
I saw my first Raider game when I was very young, and I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. Those Raider teams would knock your head off, and played and acted differently than everybody else.
They were the only game in town before the A’s got there in 1968, and they were good, so it was pretty easy to get into your blood.
There are times when I wish I could get it out, like when they moved to LA. I tried really hard to not root for them down there (if you’re from NorCal, this doesn’t need to be explained), but ended up capitulating because I had to root for somebody and it sure as hell wasn’t going to be the Niners.
Anyway, to answer your question, both. I started early but I’m still an old guy.

Chester McClockton???? He wouldn’t make my top 30 list!
April 28th, 2010 at 7:16 am
I started getting into the Raiders back in the late 80s-90s. My best all time athlete, NFL player and running back of all time Bo Vincent Jackson was one of the most exciting players I ever watched. His speed and power was crazy man! He could do it all.
I had such a man crush on the guy. He was one bad @$$ player. : )
This team was so intimidating wearing silver and all black. Some guys even had on the visors so you could not see their eyes. They would hit guys knock em out and they were always moving the chains. Vertical run vertical pass.
April 28th, 2010 at 7:19 am
Chester McClockton took to many breaks but I guess if I had to carry his weight and take on double teams every play I would be as well.
I hear his knees are really in bad shape now a days. He is coaching somewhere but had physical pain for years in his knees and joints.

I’d like to see him win that job. Everyone talks about the help that Henderson got from Gallery last year. And the TEs and RB staying in to help him the year before that. Dude was not good at all last year, IMO. He has Rosenhaus as an agent and will be looking for a big payday. The Raiders had this guy in to visit and he talked to Al Davis. They must think pretty highly of him, so yeah I’m looking for him to beat out Mario.

Anyone else see this stat on NFLN last night?
Among all players who started at least one game last year, the round with the most starters was round 1. Next on the list was undrafted players, which I thought was remarkable.
And more 3rd rounders started than 2nd rounders, last year.
Poing being, undrafted guys are just as good as guys drafted in round 2 and beyond.
April 28th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Bears traded for SS Chris Harris (Panthers) yesterday.
we should have traded them Mike Mitchell for next year’s 1st rounder!
dang it!
you know how bad they wanted MM34 on draft day and that was before we knew what a stud SS Tyvon Branch was

Give Al Davis the pro bowl roster: 5-11.
Our problem is organizational, not personnel.
____________________________
-The Raiders were AFC champs last time they had a pro bowl QB.
-The major problem with the organization in the recent past was personnel selection and cost.
“One of the things that has detoured us a little bit is some of the spending we have done,” Cable said last week in Orlando. “It didn’t work.”
This offseason shows dedication to professionalism over athleticism for a change.
You improve the organization by improving the quality of the personnel.
8-8 or 9-7
…in a transitional season with a young team ain’t bad
April 28th, 2010 at 8:17 am
RR,
I like the Roster a lot, but I would add Reece to RBs. He is 6′3 240 and he played both WR & RB at college. He runs a 4.44!
April 28th, 2010 at 8:17 am
Poing being, undrafted guys are just as good as guys drafted in round 2 and beyond.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Um, each year 32 players get drafted in each round. 200+ go to camp as undrafted FAs. Thus, more starters than rounds 2-7. Simple statistics. I think I proved that.
April 28th, 2010 at 8:18 am
Mark Schlereth said on NFL Live last night that Jason Campbell is “in a very good situation” in Oakland.
surprised to hear him say that.
Trey Wingo asked him if the rookie o-liners could protect him here and he said “well, yeah. he didn’t have an O-Line in Washington either and still got the job done”
strange to hear a donk homer say something like this about the Raiders!
April 28th, 2010 at 8:18 am
Stop hating on Mike Mitchell! He is far better than Derrick Gibson. Simply no comparison. I think we have proved that.
April 28th, 2010 at 8:19 am

O: you think Reece might beat Cartwright & Anderson out of a roster spot ???
April 28th, 2010 at 8:19 am
I wouldn’t be shocked if Kyle Boller made the team.
Hue was his position coach last year, so he probably wouldn’t be here if someone didn’t think he could fit. They’re familiar with one another, and Boller probably already knows the terminology Jackson’s going to use.

BSJ,
The only way your statistic would hold up is if of those 200+ guys you say that get invited to camp, 32 of them each year make rosters around the league.
That’s one per team. We had 2 last year (Nick Miller and Bryant).
Makes it a little more comparable.
April 28th, 2010 at 8:26 am

I didnt say anything about evaluating him, which is clear by the fact that you copied and pasted exactly what I said. NO 3 months is NOT enough time to fix a disaster of the magnitude of Russell. This post was not intended to say Russell should stay, it was intended as a defense to Hue Jackson, who should not be associated with JRuss at all. Thats it.

what else does he have? NADA
I think Cable, Hue Jax, Hackett & Tollner all came to the general consensus that Russell isn’t salvageable. Then went up to Al Davis and told him as much. “can’t win with ‘em”

Whats happening Great Raider Fans of America. We finally had a grade A draft.I just want to say that its not right that some of us isn’t giving our Nnamdi A.much respect.I say that Nnamdi is the best and I mean the best cornerback in the league.Nnamdi has played for a team that hardly ever puts pressure on the opposing teams quarterbacks leaving him to cover longer always. He always makes the Pro Bowl from one of the worst teams soon to be better. He’s hardly ever thrown against by the opposing teams quarterbacks.I mean whats an All-Pro Raider has to do around here to get some respect from all our fans because he deserves it.Not the fans that thinks that D.Revis is better. No way Revis is better than Nnamdi.Revis plays for a blitz happy Quarterback pressuring defense and a better team at the moment.Nnamdi doesn’t have that luxury yet.Plus,Nnamdi has been All-Pro for years.Revis needs to keep it up a while longer.

He talked about 3-4 elements within the 4-3. He was in studio with Rod Woodson and Warren Sapp, and they talked about all the defensive posibilities and it all starting with the ENDS they have.

Sapp said keep him on the roster and develop him.

Updating a previous item, the Raiders are reportedly “awaiting the final word” from owner Al Davis before releasing JaMarcus Russell.
ESPN’s John Clayton suggests Russell may still attend minicamp this weekend, but the Raiders won’t let him practice for fear of injury. Davis famously told former coach Lane Kiffin to “get over” his reluctance to play Russell because the former No. 1 overall pick was a “great player.” Russell’s impending release as possibly the biggest draft bust in NFL history is a tough pill for Davis to swallow.

We are not going to run a 3-4 defense. Nnamdi was saying that you can run some 3-4 principles out of a 4-3 defense and flat out said we were not switching to the 3-4. Not sure what that means or who will play where. I think you’ll see guys moving around all over the place.

For Campbell 2 start he has much catching up 2do,imo

3. Oakland Raiders
Starter: Jason Campbell
Challengers: Bruce Gradkowski, JaMarcus Russell, Kyle Boller, Charlie Frye
The Upshot: When the Raiders wisely traded a 2012 fourth-round pick to Washington for Campbell on Saturday, it showed Al Davis was finally waking up and smelling the coffee in the case of the disappointing Russell. Davis will reportedly release Russell any day now, but given the Raiders owe him $3 million guaranteed this season, I’m not sure the point of whacking him now. There’s time for that at the end of the preseason. Campbell walks in the door as the team’s most accomplished starter, and that’s saying something given the five-year ride he just took in Washington. If I’m new Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, my depth chart reads Campbell, Gradkowski and Russell, in that order. Boller and Frye look like camp arms only, or maybe the team’s No. 3 if Russell is released.
Potential For Change: Oakland’s starting quarterback slot has been a revolving door since Rich Gannon left town, but Campbell now gets his turn to end all the instability. He’ll put in the time and the work necessary to earn the job, unlike Russell, who only won it via his contract and draft status. Gradkowski can’t be completely overlooked, but Campbell’s experience makes him the best of three first-round quarterbacks on the roster (Boller in 2003, Campbell in 2005, Russell in 2007).

Campbell has a career completion % of 61.2 compared to a 53.3 for Gradkowski
Campbell has an 82.3 career QB rating compared to 65.9 for Gradkowski.
Campbell is 6′5 – Gradkowski is 6′1
Campbell has the deep ball accuracy the Raiders are looking for.
And last – look at the contract. Campbell was given 4 mil for next year without ever throwing a pass.

I give the draft a B-. I like McLain, Houston, and the big tackle from Hillsdale. But ..the other “Al Davis picks” bothered me a little. There was some great value to upgrade the offensive line in rounds 4 thru 7.
Top rated center Justin Walton, Baylor was there for the taking in the 5th round and the Raiders passed on him. Other quality guards as well.
But I love the Jason Campbell trade. Finally, a legitimate experienced starting QB. Campbell will make all our receivers, running backs, and offensive line better the minute he gets under center.
I’m hoping for 8-8 this year. I’m hoping having a new offensive coordinator will allow for some offensive growth. Bush and McFadden are key to the teams success. If they can provide a solid 1-2 combo, we will improve.

Campbell had 170 completions to his WR Corps (Moss, Randle El, Thomas & Kelly)
another 77 completions to his TE’s (Cooley & Davis)
Raider QB’s had 91 completions to thier WR Corps (Schilens, Higgins, Murphy, Heyward-Bey)
another 76 completions to thier TE’s (Miller & Stewart)

Had the Raiders not signed Campbell I would have been pulling for Gradkowski.
I just don’t think the Raiders go get Campbell to be a backup with Fry-Guy and Boller already on the roster.
When you trade for a 52 game starter and give him a 4mil dollar contract extension, you are expecting him to be the starter.

You guys are giving Bruce too much credit for his starts last year. With Hue Jackson in the mix, we will have a new offense, with new wrinkles, which means all of these guys; Campbell, Grads, Frye and even Russell will be on a level playing field for winning the QB job, and Kyle Boller will start with a slight edge, becuase he knows the system.
Russell will be cut or continue to stink
Frye and Grads will battle through camp
Boller will maintain his edge and probably surprise
but Campbell will ultimately start, cuz of the salary

So much about this story is suspect.
Let’s forget the idea that he’s pretty much in line for “Animal Cruelty of the Year” award (anyone who would shoot an animal 8 times, OVER THREE HOURS, while it slowly dies, when you have a high powered rifle that would have done the job with one shot? That’s animal cruelty, and definitely subject to charges, AS THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED) ….
but even that picture looks bogus.
If that was to scale? Animal would be the size of a rhino.
I suspect animal was shot with rifle, (maybe by the kid or not) then posed with the handgun to get the attention it’s getting..
Honestly…if you were hunting? And you had a 30-06, and you saw that? Would you EVER consider letting it run off, losing it for good, because you decided to use a handgun?

Jamarcus Russell is 7-18 as a starting QB in the NFL….giving the Raiders a 28% chance of winning per game….
Factor in that he had 2 Rookie Wide Receivers last season and a second year tight end who was himself a rookie the previous year…along with having to deal with two Head Coaches and 3 Play Callers…. See More

April 28th, 2010 at 12:05 pm
One day ‘neath the shadow of Machapuchare the girlfriend and I were having a stroll from Pokhara to Baidam and Lake Phewa.
As we ambled and chatted we passed by a small field containing lots of grazing creatures. Normal scene for Nepal with lots of ungulates roaming around.
The girlfriend was in the midst of saying something when my mind registered what it had just seen in a cursory glance. So I stopped her and we gaped in awe.
There in the field stood side-by-side an adult water buffalo and a hog. They were the same size!
April 28th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
Russell has only started 22% of the games during our 7 year slump….
He is not “OUR” problem…!
April 28th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Elkins,
Russell doesn’t encompass the entire 7 years of losing, therefore he is not the whole of the problem, however he has shown himself to also NOT be a part of the solution. A quarterback who sees the NFL as a job, a toil, and a task that takes away from what he really wants to do (chill out, eat, gamble, get more jewelry, and LOOK like a superstar instead of PLAY like one) is not someone that I would want to keep on the team. We have to move forward… and it’s hard to do that when you’re trying to carry and drag 300 lbs of dead weight.

JR did NOTHING to improve himself or this team…
he’s a mouth breathing slacker who got is money and ran away from the responsibility of being a #1 QB…
Could we have done more for him? sure, but he needed to do his own work on JR and he isn’t doin it.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Also,
To address the ENTIRE seven year stretch:
In my opinion, the problems can be summed up in four major areas: Horrible Offensive Line Play, Giving up Big Plays, Horrible Drafts that don’t address NEEDS, and Bad Coaching (not necessarily bad coaches).
The first is being addressed. We have given up so many sacks that it’s ridiculous, but that’s not even half of the story. Even when the passes get out, they were under pressure and usually, the play hadn’t unfolded enough yet. Hopefully, that issue is being fixed. The second issue is being addressed as well. I think the offensive woes also had a LOT to do with the second problem. When the defense is tired by the 2nd quarter, they are more prone to making mental errors, being out of position, and giving up big plays.
The latest draft gives me hope that the drafting problems are being addressed and will improve in the future. No more can possibly be asked at this point than has already been done in the past week, so I will leave it at that. As for the coaching, we have had too many people doing too many things for which they are not suited. Hopefully Hue at OC will allow Cable to manage the team and give us some better playcalling. If Marshall gets more freedom to let it go, we should see massive defensive improvement, especially given the latest personnel moves. Aside from the big play, the defense played pretty damned well last year, so as long as we can address a few key things, the team should look much better.
If we were to improve all those things and then keep JaMarcus, even though he shows NO commitment to the game, we would be stuck under .500 for the next few years. We would win games IN SPITE of JR, not BECAUSE of him. I would rather have a QB (Campbell or Gradkowski) who wants it… who will work his ass off to make this team better. JR has spent this offseason proving that he isn’t that guy. He was put on notice with the benching… and he has failed to pay heed. Fare thee well in your next journey, fat boy… but it won’t be in the NFL.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
Free agent C Kevin Mawae says he is “befuddled” that no team has signed him yet.
“I just came off my eighth Pro Bowl and a 16-game season and I can’t get one phone call,” said the 39-year-old. “Alan Fanaca gets cut two days ago and yesterday he signs a contract with another team. And not to take anything away from him, we have the same agent, we’re friends. But something tells me that there is something going on beside me just being 39 years old.”

April 28th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
i thought Hue was going to be the passing game coordinator only. please clarify.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Elkins,
My problem with JR has nothing to do with any of the games he has or hasn’t played since he’s been here. It seems that if he has any idea of ever doing what it takes to succeed, he wants to wait until the rest of the issues are resolved, THEN say “okay, I’ll do my part.”
We can’t put up with that. What if all the moves we’ve made are good enough to get us to 9-7 with good QB play? Well, that won’t happen with JR, because he’s a year of study in the filmroom away from even reading a defense. He’s a year of practice away from having the timing down with his receivers. He’s at least 6 months away from being in great physical shape… and if he’s busy trying to lose all that fat, he’ll be too fatigued to learn anything. If JR had spent the offseason learning and practicing with his receivers, and staying in shape, I would be ALL FOR keeping him. The fact that he’s going into his fourth year and still saying, “I don’t NEED to put in the work” is too much for me to bear.
I say that Hue should make out a ten question BASIC NFL QB test. When JR arrives at minicamp, he should have to take the test and then get weighed. If he makes 100% on the test, he can weigh anything and keep his roster spot throughout camp and try to earn his spot ON THE FIELD. If he misses ONE question, then he can only keep his job if he weighs under 290 (still WAY too big). If he misses more than one question, release him immediately regardless of weight.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Lorenzo Neal busted his a$$ here and he got cut, Ellis busted his a$$ and we let him go, Morrison busted his a$$ and we traded him, Fargas busted his a$$ and he got cut, Warren was decent and he got cut, why should we hold a guy (Jaunemployed) who didn’t even work hard to a different standard?
April 28th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
When you guys make these fat jokes, you have to specify who you’re talking about. I can’t tell if you’re talking about Russell or Cable.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
DMAC,
I explained a few nights ago that age has nothing to do with Mawae not being signed by anyone. It’s all because he’s president of the players union in a negotiation year. You don’t want a union head working at YOUR plant (on your NFL team). That can be big trouble in the locker room.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Inonewordraider,
It’s not a different standard. It’s the exact SAME standard. The standard requires two things: 1)hard work and 2)the ability to translate that hard work into results.
Morrison worked his ass off, but couldn’t get it done.
JR is more than capable of getting it done IF he works hard, but he is unwilling to do the work.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Mortenson and Schefter rope a doped Al again. Reported the story, now Al’s thinking about not making the move to show them up. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Schefter and Mort have more control of this team than Al does. They can make Al do anything by just saying he won’t do it, and vice versa.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:42 pm
Did you guys see that? Steve Alford just gave his explanation of why the Raiders sucked for the past 7 years, long ass comment, 3 huge paragraphs. Not ONE mention of Al Davis. As if all of those players and coaches he mentions hired themselves. Stupidity at it’s finest.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:43 pm
RMR,
I don’t think they got Al to avoid cutting JR. I think the only logical thing to do is to let JR report to minicamp before cutting him, rather than cut him a couple of days early like all the media have speculated. If JR gets to participate in camp, then I’ll agree with you that they got Al to keep JR by reporting that he wouldn’t.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:43 pm
That’s very true Steve.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
RMR,
I would think that it’s pretty self-explanatory that Al is responsible for all the points that I made. He is the man in charge. He is ultimately to be blamed for any bad decisions that are made. When have I ever said any different?
April 28th, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Steve…again…excellent post…
However, if our staff can’t coach the skills Russell has to offer they are the problem.
Just what do you think a coach does?
He inspires…he gets in your head…he gets you to look at something you know to be true yet he’ll make you question the way you see it….he does what I’m doing to you right now!
He isn’t just a game planner….a play caller….a leader….
He is supposed to be the EXAMPLE….
Tom Cable nor any of his predecessor’s since Gruden have all been below average coaches and leaders….
Russells performance the first 12 games Cable coached were good enough to earn him a job….but after the season…what is the first thing Cable tries to do….SIGN GARCIA…undermining the faith he should have in the man who had a hand in getting him his job….
Tom Cable is a counterfeit coach!
April 28th, 2010 at 12:46 pm
I’ll bet you Al was really going to fire Cable but when the press said he would do it, he changed his mind. Cable is only here to show up the press. Russell is only here to show up Kiffin, and now the press. This is how your guys’ hero runs his team, while teams like New Orleans, Indianapolis, New York Jets, are concentrating on winning. They might play one stupid game with the press every few years, but other than that, it’s ALL business and winning. With Al, it’s all games. All games, all the time, while team needs are neglected.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Have you seen the posts that I’ve made where I said that Al should have given Kiffin and Cable (in his early days as HC) and Marshall more control? I have never defended Al on these points. He takes too much control and does it HIS way… and that way is lost in the modern game. I’ve said since I got here that Al needs help in the Front Office from people who know the modern game and that he will listen to and USE their advice. You’re barking up the wrong tree, RMR… the archives will back me up on this. I’ve never defended Al in terms of the 7 year disaster. All the things that didn’t get fixed are to be blamed on him. I will, however, give him credit for allowing others to have a say NOW and helping to right the ship.
He gets blame for the bad and credit for allowing others to help finally create some good. Let’s hope that it’s not too little, too late.

“Two NFL sources tell the Denver Post that Broncos LT Ryan Clady has injured his patellar tendon in a non-football-related incident.According to the Post, “it could be serious.” A late-April patellar tendon tear would jeopardize Clady’s availability for Week 1, though the exact severity is unknown at this time.”
Im sorry for him, but thats a big problem for the Donkies
April 28th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
Alford, your reasoning makes no sense. Why would they need Russell to show up at camp? Most companies would prefer to fire someone over the phone, to prevent the awkwardness of doing it in person, and, in some cases, an incident. You make no sense, as usual. You’re just reaching, trying to be right. Trying to sound like you’re an insider and you know what you’re talking about.

A coach takes full responsibility for losing….FULL….I have never heard Tom Cable say…it’s my fault….next question….

He won’t do that though….because he is scared of losing his job….a man only takes on the mistakes of othrs who has a strong belief in himself…
We have no such coach!
April 28th, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Elkins,
Some people are uncoachable. Gannon credited Hackett as the reason for his success in becoming a great QB. In all his years, I think that Hackett has probably learned to approach different guys in different ways. I doubt that he was dumbfounded as to how to teach JR. The problem is JR. If JR was great at all other aspects except for the things the coaches are responsible for, then I would see your point… but JR can’t even find a way to be good at the things like STAYING IN SHAPE. His own actions (or lack thereof) show that you cannot blame the coaches for his own personal failures. Bringing in Garcia wasn’t a move to undermine JR, it’s what a coach SHOULD do: bring in the best personnel that you can and if JR is truly #1, then he will easily win the job and we will have a GREAT backup. The thing that totally destroys your argument is that JR knew that Garcia wasn’t brought in to take his job, so JR wasn’t undermined at all… and when Garcia found out, he asked to be traded or released. Garcia wasn’t brought in to be the starter, so your argument is invalid.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Here’s a draft analysis of JaMarcus Russell from a few years ago::
“his touch on his long ball has improved quite a bit, but he still needs to work on his underneath throws. … Still has not fully grasped the mental aspect of calling his own game yet, and will need to have the plays called for him until he can prove that he can handle play-calling on his own. …”
Pretty telling, isn’t it?
Doesn’t it give you an idea of what’s in store?
Isn’t it pretty much everything Raider fans complain about in Russell at present day?
Well guess what?
That’s actually NOT Russell’s draft analysis.
It’s Jason Campbell’s.

A coach takes full responsibility for losing….FULL….I have never heard Tom Cable say…it’s my fault….next question….
…………
Because it’s really not his fault. I’ll give him credit for not completely bending over for Al, but he still doesn’t have the balls to stand up to him, which is just as bad. Cable only stands up to nobodies like Hanson.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:56 pm
England,
No, I am not Elkins.
RMR,
I didn’t mention Al because I assumed that everyone knows that it’s obvious WHO made the decisions, who called the shots, and whose failure to act and FIX those problems was the reason for their continued existence. Al is the reason the team has rotted. I’ve said it before and didn’t think it needed to be mentioned again, as he will never leave until he’s dead and I wanted to address the problems specifically, not in general terms of “it’s Al’s fault.”

Steve, you’re a lying sack of shyt. You didn’t mention Al by design, because you want people to blame others, not Al.
Just like you tried to pass Al’s prevent defense on Rob Ryan the other night, even though we got burnt by that defense last year, after Ryan left, and before Ryan was even here, several times.
Every word that comes out of your mouth is a lie to defend Al. Every stupid word.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
I just wondered Steve. Some of your comments are perceptive but, like Elkins you tend to go on a bit.

And no, he won’t get the full 9 mil for REPORTING to minicamp and getting weighed and tested. If he PARTICIPATES in a team activity and gets injured, then he gets paid. I’m not talking about having him run any drills, I’m talking about getting him in the building, then giving him a test and weighing him. I doubt that he can get a “season-ending” injury or any injury that will keep him on IR until after pre-season while getting on a scale or sitting at a desk… though I suppose it IS possible somehow.

April 28th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Al is actually offering Russell a chance.
He’s asking the guy to take a cut in salary and stay.
If Russell wants to be an NFL QB, all he has to do is take the cut, stay and work at his craft–and that means being prepared for the season and not weighing more than two people.
April 28th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
RMR,
You’re totally full of crap. I never said that Al never wanted prevent. I said that Ryan was the KING of prevent. He would go into it at the START of the 4th quarter of ANY game in which we had the lead. There has been prevent from other DC’s, but never as much as we got from Ryan.
I have talked about Al’s stubbornness, failure to grasp the modern game, and unwillingness to fix problems because that would be admitting failure MANY times. Check the archives. I’ve never defended Al ONCE. There was no “leaving him out by design.” He is in charge, so he gets the blame. Duh.

You said Ryan was “king” of the prevent to pass off the idea that Al Davis has nothing to do with this ridiculous defense that we’ve lost so many games with I’ve lost count. Sure, now you can sit here and say, “I never said Al had nothing to do with it”. Bullshyt. Same difference. I know your game, idiot. You just keep blaming people outside of Al, then when someone calls you on it, you go to your sly disclaimer. “I never said Al wasn’t at fault, he is too, I assumed every knew that”. BULL SHYT. It’s about perception. You keep trying to talk about people other than Al, keep bringing their name up, and it distracts from Al’s accountability. I know you’re game. Mack,
If we switch to a 3-4 and we get a time machine to go pick up the 1999-2003 version of me, then sure… that would be a pretty good signing (at least I’d get to find out if I was good enough. Probably not, but very, VERY few really are). McClain could play ILB on the weakside and I could be spy from strongside and audible out or reposition. I know you were being sarcastic, but that’s okay. My knee is too shot now and I’ve been out of the weight-room for too long… I’ve actually gotten down to a skinny 165 these days… more than 20 pounds below my playing weight. Without juice, that would take all summer and then some to put back on… if my joints could take it at this point. A 5′10, 165lb Roving Linebacker is not a good idea in the NFL.

………..
Yeah, then he went out and in 52 starts has posted a 61.2 career completion % and a career QB rating of 82.3
Campbell has IMPROVED every year in the league.

April 28th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
RMR,
I haven’t talked about things that have nothing to do with him. My four points that I made about the last seven years… Al is ultimately responsible for ALL of them. The lack of getting new offensive linemen: Al is the head of personnel. Defense gives up big plays: Al didn’t get better defenders or improve the offensive line so that the D isn’t on the field so long. Bad Drafts: DUH! Al all the way. Bad coaching: Al didn’t make sure he had competent guys in positions that they COULD HANDLE and give them enough power to do their job well… or avoid giving them too much to handle, taking away any effectiveness they could have. All the points I made are about Al. How could you possible say that they weren’t, just because I didn’t say his name?

1. Campbell wasn’t dumped until the trade for McNabb came through.
2. Of course Shanahan went after a veteran QB. All of his success has come behind an old QB. He can’t coach a young one. Just ask Cutler.
3. The only way you measure improvement is by numbers. The numbers went up, hence IMPROVEMENT!

Do you realize that you’re not thinking right now of what I’m not saying? And can you realize that it’s not that easy to not know what I’m going to say next, but even when you’re not knowing it, I’m knowing it and you’re not.

Mack,
I lived in SE D.C. for a while… only white boy for 20 blocks in any direction. It started out kind of strained, with no one knowing if they could trust me or vice-versa (except for a friend of mine who I had moved in with). After a few weeks, everything started to click. As cliche’d as it might sound, playing basketball on the playgrounds there is what actually broke the tension. I have no problem with being in areas like how you describe West Oakland, but I don’t know how well a business would do in an undeveloped area. I suppose SOMEONE has to be the first to take a chance on it, but it’s an awful lot of money to risk with no established market there.

It’s doubtful if any other team will take Russell.
He should take Al’s offer, stay and work on improving.
Always assuming that he wants to be in the NFL.

And I can say this with certainty: typical white people are FAR too afraid of “the ghetto.” The way you act around people is how they usually reciprocate. The worst experience I ever had with anyone there was a dude mean-muggin me hard, so rather than act confrontational or afraid that he was gonna do somethin, I said “sup” and tried to start a conversation. He shook his head and raised his hand up and said, “you got it wrong… I ain’t friendly.” I said okay and moved on. No problem, no beef, no action. His boys seemed fine with it and I went about my way.

you must be buddies with this guy:
“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”

The reality of Campbell is that he has slow feet, slow release, has trouble making up his mind and Washington wanted him gone.
On the other hand, the man has some character, works hard and learns from his mistakes. Plus his completion rate last year was over 64%.
He’s a considerable improvement over Russell.
Even so there is going to be a competition between Russell and Gradowski and I wouldn’t want to bet on who starts the first game.

What a pompeous jackass you are Rickosheet.
Why are on this blog since you can’t think or write and your only ability is to copy and paste?
=========================
Copy and paste?
You moron…no, dumbass…I QUOTE. You understand what a “quote” is?
================================================
No, you don’t quote. You PLAGAIRIZE. You take the beatdowns I put on you, change YOUR name to someone elses like koolkell, and then just regurgitate exactly what I wrote. Sad, but true.
