Bennett in on tryout

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, April 30th, 2010 at 3:09 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Although not one of the players signed to the roster, one of the players who practiced in the first session on a tryout basis was running back Michael Bennett.

A nine-year veteran out of Wisconsin, Bennett has played for the Vikings, Chiefs, Buccaneers and Chargers, carrying 23 times for 65 yards last year in San Diego.

Bennett has been a part-time back in every season except 2002, when he gained 1,296 yards on 255 carries for Minnesota. He wore No. 32 during the morning session but neither he nor any of the undrafted free agents were announced as signed. Those names are expected to be released at some point today.

Allen Smith, a lineman from Stanford, was also in for a tryout.

“It’s a business. I don’t really have anything to do with that. That’s a higher level than me.”
    =================================================
Yes, it does have to do with you, Lennie. Don’t you see? It has everything to do with you. If you behave, work hard, and play up to your potential, you can stay and tend the rabbits.

  • GForce21

We should call Ron Dayne and see what he is up to.

  • The Big Banana

Sad when a $40 million QB looks “OK” but it’s a great improvement over last year. Pathetic really. It’s a business? LOL! You are some tool, Jamarcus.

I think he’s staying and he’s already restructured.

Like Russell said, “Its a business” and someone who’s been in the League as long as Davis knows you don’t risk $6.45 milly on a guy who might get injured at camp.

Raider nation station posted hedged its bets and pointe to the hated unnamed source BS saying Russell’s already restructued.

I’d would think so just by the fact he’s not locked out of the facility.

    Russell stays.

  • Nnamdi21

    Meh…Bennet? Camp legs?

Why not give him a shot?

    go Jerry!

  • jhill

Just listned to Rolondo McClain’s PC …

Hope he doesn’t get based for that “Alabama dialect” lol!

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Russell is not going to work hard. Doesn’t have to. His job is safe because Al needs him to show up Kiffin, and he knows it.

  • Coach on Wheels

jhill – The problem is “best QB” is graded on a curve with salary, draft position and al’s ego mixed in. In 2008 former Super Bowl QB Kerry Collins led the Titans to a 13-3 record. In 2009 he got benched faster than never-did-anything Russell. The best QB plays? Not in Oakland.
How many seasons have we wasted on Jeff George, Jay Schreoder and other cannon arm QBs?
Russell can’t lead, period. This isn’t a video game. Guys won’t play for him.
How does a rookie like McClain who got drafted last week and spent the week getting in shape and studying his playbook, is allowed to talk to the media and is unchaperoned, have any respect for a guy like Baby Huey?

good camp pics in here, we gotta large lb corps

  • The Big Banana

COW – Exactly! Nice post. If Russell came in as a free agent, he would have been released long ago.

  • Raiders4eve

Jamarcus looks about 270 lbs if I guess, he is nothing like his days in LSU weighting 255 lbs. He still a fat SOB, nevertheless, if he restructures his contract, he can show what he got in the preseason games, if he sucks, cut him right away.

  • Nnamdi21

Seems like people have made up their minds on Russell one way or another like they have with Al.

Either you love him or hate him.

Al gets credit for his stupid mistakes, but not when somethings done well by his detractors and those who hate Russell want to only believe the worst rumors.

    “He’s 300+!”

Or “he wasn’t working out in Arizona.”

Those rumors seem to be less than entirely accurate at this early juncture.

reminds me of partisan politics. They jump all over anything that supportsd theri veiw and discount anythin that doesn’t regardless of merit.

Still way early, but I for one hope Russell works his way into being a franchise QB for us rather than a complete bust who gets cut.

  • jhill

    Coach,

Forgive me if I don’t buy your Jamarcus Russell take, and just wait to see it play out on the field.

I’m not in the habit of rooting against players on the team. I hope the best for every single player on the team.

No problem with me if you feel differently.

So having a strong arm is a bad thing now for QBs. What’s this world coming to??? You have absolutely no clue who can lead and who can’t. Define “lead” for me anyway. I’d rather have guys on this team that don’t need to be lead by anybody. Just do your fkn job and help this team score points.

jhill – I root for the team, sorry. I have no problem seeing bad players go. I’d love to see Russell morph into a winning QB or Kirk Morrison be a run stuffer BUT my first rooting interest is for the Raiders to win. That won’t happen with Russell and another season of losing will be upon us.

Thers nothing wrong with having a strong arm but if its not accurate whats the use??? 1 good practice from this bum and you fools are slobbering all over him…smh lol Don’t you get it? Jafatass is playing for his life right now… All week they’ve been calling him the biggest bust in the media, Papers, radio, television you mname it. So of course hes gonna try hard as of now. Thats what lazy people do… act lazy until they have to stop being lazy. And jamarcus has gotten to the point now. He needs this job to support his life style, 30 mill don’t last forever and its hard to upkeep expensive lifestyles when you lose a job like that. Jamarcus is all good now but as soon as he gets comfortable and the pressure is off, he’s gonna go right back to the old jamarcus cuz thats what lazy people do.

  • Nnamdi21

Whats the gist of the story 408? Does Campbell have a diganosed psychological disorder?

  • http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo249/the408RAIDER/749px-I-420svg.png 408RAIDER

A major factor in Bruce Campbell’s draft-day slide: a severe learning disability.

  • Coach on Wheels

Debo – A leader isn’t referred to as a “nightmare” by his team mates. JR has so little leadership that the PLAYERS were talking about lowly Gradkowski like he was friggin General Patton.
russel comes in for injured Grads, first play, false start. Lack of focus.
Having a strong arm isn’t a bad thing it is an overhyped excuse used to keep around losing QBs. Guys like Favre and Elway had rocket arms mentioned only once in a while because they were complete players. JR is ar one trick pony.

  • Senior Beeecham

Look at ol Krappy, posting his nonstop nonsense over on PFT!

“I don’t know why people blame media for trying to bring info to Raider fans from an organization that refuses to.

Al Davis as GM is 29-83, not Mike Florio.”

it doesn’t really take a genius to play football. hell half the players in the league arre semi-retarded.lol
