-Jerry Mac
haha. I hope somebody asks him about Ted Tollner & Sanjay Lal. What roles are these guys playing with Hue Jax running the show?
Last year Lal just stood around with his hands in his pockets looking for something to play with while old Teddy yelled at the WR corps for 100 straight hours

JLH can play….He’s the 3rd best receiver on the team who has actually caught the ball and scored.
Compare JLH stats in limited appearances vs. DHB. Its not even close.
Depth Chart Should Be
Murphy
Schilens
JLH
DHB
Ford (Ford pushes DHB)
Watkins
DHB was AWFUL last year. I get the nice kid and working hard stuff…but a lot of people work hard for far less money. He has a LONG way to go. the best thing for him is to watch and learn and to be brought along slowly. He’s a raw athlete with limited experience who was only average at Maryland.
Speed ain’t everything
You guys wanting to dump JLH have short memories…yet give a free pass to some of the others on the roster.
May 4th, 2010 at 5:59 am
Also,
Its ok for people to challenge the offensive line, QB etc…but DTs are somehow off-limits.
The run defense is garbage and our big run stuffer at DT is Desmond Bryant (290 lbs).
I also believe that Shaughnessy is going to platoon with Houston and eventually be a backup. Seymour is not moving inside like a lot of you believe.

Darren Sharper re-signed with the Saints.
not much NFL news other than that. slow news day yesterday

Campbell vs. Gradkowski…not even close.
For any scrutiny given to Campbell pales in comparison to the holes in “Grads’” game.
Campbell is a 3 or 4 year starter…he completed 64% of his passes last year…he’s a career 61% passer.
20 TDS on a lousy team.
Gradkowski, injury proned……career numbers closer to JaDavis….
BTW, Campbell works as hard as Grads does…I am quite sure.
Competition should be interesting

in with the AM crew ???
welcome
May 4th, 2010 at 6:11 am
why would the Raiders even draft Lamarr Houston to play DE, if Seymour wasn’t moving to DT most (if not all) downs ???
Shaughnessy is a player. not anything close to a bench warmer imo
why Cable thinks Kelly or Bryant can fill the nose tackle void is beyond me! weren’t they both on the team last year when we finished 29th against the run?
May 4th, 2010 at 6:14 am
starting D-line:
ShoNasty-Kelly-Seymour-Houston
with a heavy dose of Bryant & Richardson in the rotation
starting LB corps:
Scott-McClain-Wimbley
with a heavy dose of Groves & Howard in the rotation

So a little sluggish from my dozen eggs and shrimp breakfast.
I hear that’s what franchise QB’s eat after a big day.
May 4th, 2010 at 6:38 am
Rockstar,
Only having a cup of coffee. I agree 100% with your assessment of the DT/run defense and JLH.
Anyway, Cable pretty much said the “NT” candidates were Tommy Kelly and Desmond Bryant.
Also going to move people around. We will see.
Raiders have always undervalued the big man in the middle. Not athletic enough I guess.
Drafted 3 DTs in 10 years…none higher than the 4th or 5th round….bunch of Undrafted Free Agents or former 1st round busts from other teams have manned the middle.
We do not have an Indy Colts or New Orleans Saints offense….few teams do…therefore we have to stop the run.
I personally do not believe TK and Bryant are up for the task. But that’s just my opinion.
The Vikings got two dominant guys up the middle….Haynesworth was the centerpiece in Tennessee for years…..only the Colts go small and fast because they have Peyton, Wayne, Clark, Saturday, Garcon and a stable offensive coaching staff.
We don’t! So we should be trying to do what we can to stop this maddness up the middle. McClain is a start but not the complete project. People are kidding themselves otherwise…one man can’t do it alone.
Get a boss DT in here!
May 4th, 2010 at 6:41 am
SnB,
Your a getting a little crazy on this Campbell thing.
Why does any ever criticism of Campbell have to be turned around and compared to Bruce. We get it, he is our best QB on the roster and should start.
Doesn’t mean Campbell is any good though. Any team could have had him for super-cheap and the Raiders were about the only one’s negotiating a deal. Why is that?
Because Campbell has about the same winning % as Jamarcus Russell as a QB, year in and year out his TD-to turnover ratio is ratio is at or below 1-1, and the Redskins were worse with him at times than they were without him on a few instances.
I hope this is the change he needs and he relishes the opportunity , because at this stage, he is lucky to be an NFL starter this year.
May 4th, 2010 at 6:42 am
big day?
Vegas: every day is a “big day” when you know you’re either going to make $9.5 million this year to sit on the bench or $3 million this year to sit at home on the couch naked eating cheetos

I am not attached to names at this point. I am cheering for the Heard kid and hope he’s not this year’s Franz Joseph…….
Henderson or Hovan would be excellent veteran pickups.
I know that a 290 lbs NT won’t work….that much I do know.
And as I said before, let’s see where Seymour actually plays this year. Cable also said that Lamar Houston is here to abuse Tight Ends….that’s where Shaughnessy plays right now…….so, will Seymour move inside? Question of the day!

haha. my question of the day is:
Is Dick Seymour the highest paid defensive player in the NFL yet ???

me too!
here’s hoping Mike Waufle can “coach up” Kellen Heard.
treat him like big John Henderson. slap him in the face and tell him to go attack Samson Satele and knock him on his can
May 4th, 2010 at 6:52 am
Vegas,
The critiques I’ve heard of Campbell don’t bother me much…just annoying. And every critique about Campbell is related to Gradkowski….because he’s the next best alternative.
So many people here sold out on Gradkowski who has no resume. Except one game where he played well (Pittsburgh).
People are nitpicking and scrutinizing Campbell. His statistics are real…he’s an accurate passer that has struggled in the big moment…hell, at least he’s been in winnable games of late….on a bad team, with bad coaching in the toughest conference in the NFL…and stays healthy. 64% completion percentage…I am excited!
You even mentioned that if Campbell starts 4-4 that you will be calling for Gradkowski…..
I think the competition will play itself out..
May 4th, 2010 at 6:54 am
Gotta go.
BTW, JLH is the 3rd best receiver on this team that can be a solid contributor with a decent QB.
DHB has a LOOOOOOOOONG way to go.
Murphy, Schilens, JLH….that should be the starting lineup….DHB should be the 4th receiver and be watching and learning.
May 4th, 2010 at 6:54 am
S&B: what if Seymour stays at DE and Heard gets cut…
can you imagine rotating Kelly, Bryant, Joseph & Cooper at DT?
somebody should send Rolando McClain a sympathy card!

======================================================
We lose. And then we will make some desperate grab at a big man off someone’s practice squad or something.
McClain will simply be very average or below average.
Quite honestly he gets the benefit of the doubt in the 1st year anyway.
The Raiders already get after the QB…..they can’t stop the run worth a doggone.
So I hope this rotation thing works…kind of ran out of favor in New York.
Excuse my skepticism…..I’ve been told that teaching was the issue, DEs, Rob Ryan….and on and on…..now its rotating lineman.
WE will see…I would hate for the opponent to be able to manhandle the middle and maul McClain all day.
May 4th, 2010 at 6:59 am
SnB,
I look forward to the competition, and I am pretty positive Campbell will win it and be the starter.
I am a huge optimist in general, so I don’t know why I am not over-the-top excited for Jason Campbell.
I look at him like Aaron Brooks and Kerry Collins, who were both way better QB’s than Campbell at this stage in their careers, each having been to playoff games and Pro Bowls.
We didn’t find a franchise QB when those guys came aboard, and I don’t think we have one now.
And I don’t buy that the Redskins were a “bad team”. They have made the playoffs twice in the last 5 years, Campbell’s rookie year when he didn’t play, and 2007 when the team went from 5-6 with Campbell to 4-0 to end the year without him to squeeze into the playoffs. They just weren’t any good when he was playing!!

JLH is ruined.
May 4th, 2010 at 7:04 am
I am a huge stats guy, but QB stats can be padded against bad teams and at the end of games and halves to make them look real better.
So 65% completion with 20 TD’s and 15 ints makes me think we will be looking for a QB, again, in our very near future.
Anyone care to guess whose stats these are and how well his team went?
55%, 3900 yards, 29 TD’s 9 INT’s, 91.2 rating

Jeff George, 1997
We went 4-12.
See stats don’t mean much when your team is 4-12 (like the Skins last year).
2007 Skins are a playoff team. 2008 they start 6-2. Since than they are 6-18, a worse record than the Raiders over that time.
What the hell happened?
May 4th, 2010 at 7:09 am
Vegas: is that Kyle Orton?
May 4th, 2010 at 7:10 am
Vegas
Pretty simple man:
2009 Oakland Raiders QB’s:
52.6% completions on 485 atts, 2875 yards, 10 TD’s – 18 INT’s, sacked 49 times.
2009 Jason Campbell:
64.5% completions on 507 atts, 3618 yards, 20 TD’s – 15 INT’s, sacked 43 times.
And they say the reason the Redskins went to the playoffs when Campbell went down was that backup Todd Collins (long time KC back up when Al Saunders was there) knew Al Saunders Redskins OC at the time, complicated offense better than Campbell.
May 4th, 2010 at 7:10 am

May 4th, 2010 at 7:16 am
my case is gonna start after an hour delay later
May 4th, 2010 at 7:16 am
Bob,
So your telling me that a career journeyman can take a 5-6 team to 4 straight wins, because he knew the offense better than the starting QB in late November??
Who was the starter Jamarcus Russell? How does a QB not have as good of a grasp on the offense as the backup after being the starter all through camp, preseason and the first 11 games of the season, to where a less talented backup can come in and perform way better?
May 4th, 2010 at 7:19 am
if the Raiders were sold on JaMarcus, Bruce, Charlie or Kyle – they wouldn’t have traded for Jason Campbell.
not saying who has the POTENTIAL to be better. it’s obvious the team rallied around Gradkowski when inserted into the lineup last year and totally sunk when Russell got back into the (Washington) game.
team played much better with Frye under center as well. too many INT’s against Cleveland, but he was moving the ball up and down the field nicely. stellar game against Baltimore until he got hurt
we don’t know whether or not the team will rally around Jason Campbell or not, but if they did it for Bruce & Charlie, they’ll do it for Jason (another gym rat / worker bee type).
JC is obviously the most accomplished QB of the bunch. just my opinion
May 4th, 2010 at 7:27 am
Vegas raider.
5-6 with Campbell to 4-0 to end the year without him to squeeze into the playoffs. They just weren’t any good when he was playing!!
That was a total fluke with Todd Collins.
Is he even in the NFL still?
It was a different situation compared to what Gannon did in minny or KC.
Gannon actually carried the team.
Todd Collins more or less didn’t screw up.

I absolutely hate this rationale of thinking.
Yes it is not our money, but it is our team, and bad business decisions effect how well the team plays on the field.
Hell, Al might not be making a run at the Mawae’s, Henderson and TO’s of the world, because he was burned so badly on his previous FA signings when he took your approach and said screw it, let’s make Tommy Kelly and Javon Walker some of the highest paid players at their position.
Football is a business first, game second. Only fans think otherwise.
