These preseason game should hold more weight than years past. Considering new quarterback, MLB, o and d linemen. Also, we play a lot of our regular season competition this preseason.

If specific players suck in preseason, they will really suck during the year.

Here’s the deal, T.O. will offer more than Javon Walker, just due to the fact that he isn’t injured and gotten his head smashed in by a steel pipe.

How much he contributes is up to debate though.

Now I want to see us annihilate Tennesee:

    1) Because we’ll finally stop the dog gone RUN
    2) Jason Campbell will light up a suspect Tennesee Secondary
    3) Michael Bush and Mcfadden contributes to over 150 yards rushing.

    **********

I guess I’m one of the YOU PEOPLE too. But, I was already aware that NT’s are usually more helpful in a 3-4 defense, which we are NOT – at least yet. But please continue with your extensive football 101. I’m sure there is some important fact that I’ve missed in these last 50+ years of following NFL football.

Z: nose tackles are used in a 4-3 defense

    sorry bra

what do you think Grady Jackson, Sam Adams, Ted Washington & Terdell Sands were ???

not all of those guys were productive in Oakland, but that was what they were brought in to do.

and don’t try to pull the same crap Jhill did saying “Mike Waufle didn’t have one in NY” his name was Fred Robbins and just because you’ve never heard of him, doesn’t mean he wasn’t a starter and key element on thier D-Line

Robbins left in FA to go join former DC Steve Spag in St Louis and NY drafted Linval Joseph to replace him.

i was just about to say the same thing. a good NT doesnt do a 4-3 team much good we need two good DT’s though

  66. RaiderRockstar Says:

    JB –

In a traditional 4-3 defensive set, the nose tackle is one of two defensive tackles, usually on the weak side of the offensive line. His job is to take up the center and weak-side or pulling guard so that the smaller ‘rush’ end has a 1-on-1 matchup with the offense’s blindside tackle. The second defensive tackle sometimes referred to as an ‘under tackle’, takes up the strongside guard and the strongside end takes up the strongside offensive tackle.

    ******************
I believe they were listed as DT. I guess we could also say they were three BIG guys and one REALLY BIG guy.

Of course we are just screwing with you on a slow news day. Please don’t take any of this schit seriously.

AD needs to make a few dramatic moves in FA right now. We definitely need a real center as Satelle is not the answer. On the D side we need 2 more real DT’s.

I predict that AD WILL sign TO. It will be a highly incentive oriented contract. I also believe TO will behave himself this time around. I also believe that if Cable can get the O-line to jell, we could win the AFC-West this time around – with or without TO.

  70. lefty12 Says:

The only way TO gets signed is if he lowers his price.Davis can offer him an incentive laced contract but that doesn’t mean he will take it and I for one hope he doesn’t.

  71. RaiderRockstar Says:

all other AFC West teams run a 3-4 defense.

LT & LG take on 1 DE.
C & RG take on the NT.
RT & TE take on 1 DE.

the reason we haven’t been able to run against SD all these years is because Jamal Williams dominated guys like Satele & Carlisle in the middle leaving one or two ILB’s to run up and smash the RB behind the LOS …

I hope Satele improves, because he has no competition for the starting job. and perhaps Campbell or Barnes will man up and unseat Carlisle at RG ???

    ************************
TO will take any deal as opposed to not playing at all. AD is the KING of crazy incentive based contracts. TO just needs to save a little face so He can say I’ve got a $10M/yr. contract – of course it’s $1M contract w/$9M worth of incentives.

My main concern is that both Schillins & Nick Miller appear to be a little injury prone. If we could count on them we wouldn’t need a non-injury prone veteran.

  73. lefty12 Says:

I believe we are going to ride the WRs we have now.It seems as though Davis learned about wasting money on old, over the hill malcontents from other teams.Either that or someone(Cable) has convinced him that is not the way to go.

  74. RaiderRockstar Says:

JB: I wouldn’t worry about Nick Miller.

Walker, Watkins & Miller are out this year!

we’ve got a WR corps of DHB, Murphy, Schilens, Higgins & Ford … all we need now is a vet mentor

if Owens is the guy? fine. but I doubt he wants a reduced role in Oakland of all places. he complained about not getting the ball enough as a #1 WR

It seems as though Davis learned about wasting money on old, over the hill malcontents from other teams.

please don’t tell me you’re reffering to Javon Walker as a mentor!

he wasn’t wasting a roster spot because of his age. he was placed in the doghouse after getting offseason knee surgery in Isreal or something without telling the team about it. then he still wasn’t ready to go by training camp

JLH was a beast in 08! But after he got his clock cleaned (by SD I believed in wk 1) he got extra soft & hesitant. You cant be that way returning kicks & running crossing routes. Either prove you still got it when we start hitting or get gone (cut/traded).

Stop trying to blame JLH’s failures on Russell. JLH got his clock cleaned against Pittsburgh with Gradkowski throwing the ball, and that won’t be the last BIG hit he takes.

Man up or get out of the way because Nick Miller and Jacoby Ford want his snaps!

  91. RaiderFanFromJersey Says:

They are,but that is for another time. The Raiders have usually been a predominant 4-3 team.Except for a few times they have relied on an athletic front 4 that didn’t rely on a huge NT.Two DTs that can get pressure up the middle has been the Raider way more than having a big,fat NT.Anyone who has watched the Raiders for many years would know this.

JLH didn’t play after week 1 for how long? Week 6 or 7? And dude was shell shocked returning kicks which was his primary glory. As for WR, I remember him giving up on routes for Grads and Frye, and how he got tangled with Murphy. Basically blunders and half ass PRs.

Bring on Miller and Ford. I’ve seen enough!

    ======================================================
    Jhill,

Johnnie Lee Higgins is 100x the receiver that Darius Heyward-Bey is or ever will be. We’ve seen JLH have multiple catch games….DHB gave 9 m’fn catches and is still dropping the ball.

I would rather see JLH as the #2 over DHB. JLH SHOULD be at least the #3 receiver. Just like he was in there to close 2008….don;t blame JLH, or Zach Miller for that matter, just because the QBs throw up rainbows over the middle that get the WRs and TEs concussed….

He’ll have a transition like a lot of other people but we’re certainly excited about what we saw on the field and about kind of person he is.”

You know dudes I keep hearing you all argue about who is the best WR on our team who to keep etc. The prblem with the WRs wwe have is none of them are #1 WRs. Chaz are best WR only had three or four good games. He has loads of potential is above average but injury prone. DHB well you know the story, potential but so far nothing. Watkins, JLH, are 3nd and third string last options. Murphy has possibility but is still a young unpolished WR. Quite as kept our best WR is Zach Miller. We really need a veteran WR on this team. I am not sure if TO is the guy, he does not have the juice like he use to but he does have a veteran presence and I have a feeling the problem child on the field TO days are over. This guys body not being what it was has been breaking this guys pride down a little. DHB could learn alot watching this guy. After one year we look for another VR WR out there and our WRs have had another year to develop.

It’s a great night to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?

Of course, there’s a chance JaMarcus will find success in the NFL. It’s entirely possible for him to have a 10-year career as a journeyman backup. But superstardom will elude him forever.

Is JLH better than DHB? He was last year, but not by much. That’s alarming, no matter how much potential DHB has. JLH flattened-out in terms of development. A younger DHB needs the light to come on, and he’ll be great.

And…Jonnie Holland would’ve been better than JLH by now, but he was sidetracked to become a DB for awhile. With Schilens’ bum wheel, we better hope Holland figures “it” out at WR in a hurry. YES to bringing in another veteran WR…one with with NO issues bigger than the team.

McClain and Houston may be two of the best picks of the year, for all teams. They’ll both be asked to play like grizzled vets…and they just might do that. Rookie mistakes will happen, but these guys look like the real deal.

Simple as that. Worst VALUE on the team.

Kelly better produce. He is the last player left.

Sands, Burgess, Hall, Warren, Green, Wilson, Walker, Russell, Moss. Horrible value. Pathetic. Awful.

You call it hate I call it reality. Sure Russell is to blame for the interest in McNabb. But if Gradkowski was so great we wouldn’t need McNabb either, right?
The coaches and the owner know Grads is journeyman QB at best. That is the reason why the interest in McNabb or else we stand pat. IMO Russell is head and shoulder better than either Frye or Grads he’sjust trying to get it together but it will take some time he’s still a young QB……….period and I want to make the playoffs this year. With McNabb that is entirely possible.

To all you wishful thinkers, Gradkowski wasn’t going to win that job anyway. Russell is already out in front as this years starter. Grads needed this time to prep for the system Hue’s bringing in. Boller already knows it and Russell will solidify the starting spot before Grads is ready. It would be a major upset for Grads to win that job.
The mere fact that DHb is developing the way that he is, is reason enough as long as Russell continues to improve. Most of you just don’t get it, DHB was drafted for Russell they will wrk long and hard to make that connection work. Because if there is a mandate from Big Al that is certainly it ifrst and foremost. That comb has the chance to be as dangerous as there is in the NFL. Hue must make that work.
Russell was draftd for Moss and Moss left so Big Al bypassed a need to get his Randy Moss(DHB). Anyone who claims to be a Raider fan should know this. They want to strike fear in the rest of the league. Yu may laugh but if those two develope some sort of chemistry it can make this offense very difficult to defend.

Just like his size and arm strength plus the fact fact that he started 3 years if I’m not mistaken. I would love to see some film on him.
I’m so sick of hearing about Gradkowski and his great ability. Anyone with an iota of objectivity knows this kid is risky business. The only thing that makes me feel somewhat secure is what I’m hearing from camp about Russell.
After the draft we’ll all have a good chance to see if it’s true or not. But if it is, it’s very promising.

It may take Russell all year long to get out of the tailspin but once he’s out you’ll have a phenom at QB. He’s working very hard from all accts. They are working before and after prectice with the WR’s and QB’s to develope chemistry. Hopefully through OTA’s and mini camps by training camp the should be much better than last year.

You guy’s are delusional. You think Tom Cable wants to go into next year with Gradkowski at QB you’re crazy. Cable was more pissed at Russell than pleased with Grads. He knows that if he starts with Grads he is hoping that at some point Russell is ready to take over. They are after McNabb for a reason they DON”T want to go a full season with those two journeyman if Russell doesn’t come through. If Grads were anything NEAR a sure thing McNabb wouldn’t even be a consideration. But they are desparate not to have to play those guy’s.
The media doesn’t spin it that way but I’m telling you everything I hear is based around Russell when they talk starters and I’m talking about the PLAYERS they meation Russell not Gradkowski. Forget what you’re hearing in the media. I’m telling what the players are saying. And they are raving about Russell at this point.

As far as Russell is concerned I’m done talking about that. He had a chance to be good and didn’t seize it. There were other mitigating factors but it’s all a matter of opinion. My biggest issue with him was the partying and hanging out. Then he refused to renegotiate his deal and that was it for me.

Armond and Debo, you see what I mean. Now he showed up at 290 I would like to know who weighed him in. Because the Raiders never weighed him when he got here. That’s what I was told. I’ve talked to player that are out there with him everyday and they say he’s lost a lot of weight especially Tyvon Branch. But our weight specialist GG knows different.
    Jhill,
It’s a awaste of time and energy worrying abut things that haven’t happened. I gaurantee you this Russell will be a Raider this season and into the forseable future wether McNabb is here or not.

RRS, We’ll see who’s 3rd string when the season starts, I can gaurantee you it wont be Russell. It might be Gradkowski especially after what Cable said about him.
You’re writing stories long before you’re even close to having a clue what might happen. At this point pumpkin Russell looks like he might be the one. Wether you realize it or not.

    Priesttj Says:
March 24th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
You call it hate I call it reality. Sure Russell is to blame for the interest in McNabb. But if Gradkowski was so great we wouldn’t need McNabb either, right?
The coaches and the owner know Grads is journeyman QB at best. That is the reason why the interest in McNabb or else we stand pat. IMO Russell is head and shoulder better than either Frye or Grads he’sjust trying to get it together but it will take some time he’s still a young QB……….period and I want to make the playoffs this year. With McNabb that is entirely possible.

    Priesttj Says:
March 25th, 2010 at 12:01 am
    Debo,
exactly because they’re just waiting to see him fail, it’s crazy but true. It would almost be better for Grads to start and then bring in Russell if he falters or gets hurt. But the truth is if Russell is right when training camp starts Gradshas no chance of beating him out. That kid is so freakin talented and that gun he has for an arm is so lethal any pritection he gets if someone can get deep it’s 6 points.

    Priesttj Says:
March 24th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Anyone who says they wouldn’t give a 1st rnd pick to get a player of McNabbs calibre just doesn’t understand this sport. Start watching knitting it’s more your speed.
That kind of talent is rare and very di9fficult to come by, that’s what Russell should apire to become. A few years with DMc and then the rest with Russell and it changes EVERYTHING………….period

    Priesttj Says:
February 28th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
    Jhill,
I gaurantee you even in that quote by Cable the naysayers will pick out whatever they can spin that negative and blow it out of proportion. When if you just let it say what it’s saying. It’s simple the kid will compete……period

    Priesttj Says:
April 15th, 2010 at 9:04 pm

    Priesttj Says:
April 15th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
    NorthernD,
then why aren’t they starters in this league since they excel at those most important aspects of the game? they both been ran outta more twons than the James brothers.
Damn you guy’s are stupid. If Frye and Gards were that damn good why is Russell favored to start for the Raiders? Why didn’t they get 1st rnd tenders did anyone GM’s cme beating down our doors to get either of them?
This game is seriously on you guy’s. They gave Grads a 3rd rnd tender and NO ONE called. WHY??????

    Priesttj Says:

Not that I’m the one doing the playing but that I told you so……. At that time I will tell you alll what you missed which is so obvious to anyone who really knws what to look for instead of listening to a bunch of people who have never met nor care to know the truth about that kid.
Now if between now and the start of the season he regresses from where he is right now and gets off track I’ll be the first to admit I’m wrong and you can have your say.
    Agreed????????

Well now that McNabb ain’t gonna happen, gotta focus on the guy’s here. Here’s to hoping the Skelton kid is a Raider I think he has something not real sure about him.

    Priesttj Says:
April 4th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
I wouldn’t touch Clausen that guy’s ego is 3x’s the size of his talent. He is a whole other set of problems especially for an orgainzation in the mess that we’re in we need someone better who’s willing to lead us out. Smeone who doesn’t think he’s larger than the franchise.

    Priesttj Says:
April 1st, 2010 at 11:13 pm
Chris in NY, get a clue bro. Grads is a wannabe. He is what you use if you nothing else. If you have a choice Grads is the last thing you want at QB it puzzles me that guy’s in here think this kid is some kind of player.
If you put him on the open market you’d get a huge yawn. To think he is anything more than a stopgap is ridiculous.

    Priesttj Says:
April 1st, 2010 at 11:22 pm

  261. fat kidd Says:

JaMarcus Russell may not have a criminal record or several court cases coming up, but he’s about as rancid as any player in the league. The man was the top overall pick in the draft four years ago and now nobody wants anything to do with him.

Which makes Russell to the Cincinnati Bengals perfect sense.

This is the franchise that has given second chances to … well … everyone. Two years ago, Cedric Benson was jobless in Texas before the Bengals snatched him up. No one wanted Larry Johnson last year and they picked him up. In this offseason, the ostracized Matt Jones and Pacman Jones … neither of which played last season … signed with Cincy. They are willing to draft guys that other teams ban from their draft boards.

So why not Russell? The Bengals sure could use a backup to Carson Palmer. Russell could use a job with no pressure. He could also use an owner who isn’t concerned by what people think about him to take a chance on him. Al Davis did it — now it’s Mike Brown’s turn. He is the perfect reclamation project for Brown and could actually be his legendary moment. If he can get Russell to be a capable quarterback in this league, it might be a steal. Of course, that probably won’t happen … but it could very well be a low risk/high reward kind of a deal.

The difference is that these other “projects” were decent players who had outside issues keeping them out of the league. Russell is far from a decent player and who honestly believes that the Bengals have the coaching to make him into a serviceable QB?

    5. JaPorkus (JaPorkchop)- I have to put this one on here, just because it was so popular, this was right up there with the highest number of times used.

    4. JaMeatloaf- Again a reference to his weight that was highly and widely used on the interenet.

    3. JaFumbles- This one describes his play during the ‘09 season. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was an instant classic.

    2. JaWalrus- This is definitely a great one. This is one that people will remember 20 years from now and they’ll say, “Hey who was that guy that used to play for the Raiders, remember he was a number one pick?” And their buddy will be like, “Yeah, JaWalrus.” It is also a refrence to a nickname he previously had, J. Russ; someone added the “wal” later on.

But the number one nickname of all time…

    1. JaBustus- Not only does this describe what he ended up being in his life, but it also refers to him having a bigger bust than most women when it was all said and done. And that deserves to be number one.

Based on his work ethic, you gotta love JaLardass

    For sheer size, there’s JaOrcas

To iconize his drink/drug of choice, he could go by SyRupus

To fully appreciate his quick minded decision making is there a better name than JaMoron?

In relation to how much the Raiders spent on him in terms of pick and dollars, he should be known as JaFrivolous

But my favorite, to celebrate every year on May 6th, the day in Raiders history where a statement was made that the team is ready to move beyond past mistakes, we will have Jamancipation Day.

Here’s a good report on Jacoby Ford:

    “Jacoby Ford – Clemson

    Scout: David Syvertsen

    Height/Weight: 5’9 – 186

    40 Time: 4.28

Pro Potential: Santana Moss – Washington Redskins

    Position Traits

Acceleration/Burst/Quickness: Top tier rate of acceleration. One of the fastest players in the country because of his initial burst off the line. Remains balanced throughout and can explode off any point.

Agility/Leaping Ability: Does not get up and reach the ball at the apex of his leap. Struggles to time his jumps well. Runs low to the ground, which allows him to shift and bounce while keeping his balance. Flexible from the waist on down.

Blocking: Does not always give top effort as a blocker. I’ve seen him make zero effort to slow down a linebacker in space. At his size he may not be much of a factor, but the effort needs to at least be there.

Body Control/Adjustment: Not a natural adjuster to the ball downfield. Stays on his feet but once his eye level changes, he becomes erratic and loses track of the ball. Does not reach back for the ball with efficiency, will not come down with a lot of passes above his head.

Concentration/Hands: When the ball is placed where it should be, Ford looks very comfortable and natural. However he lets the ball in to his body at times and tries to trap it. I’ve seen too many nicely thrown passes bounce off his numbers.

Release: Very difficult to jam at the line because of his ability to stay low and remain shifty. Gives the cornerback a very small area to pounce on and if that initial hit is not completely on, Ford’s quickness will get him that initial separation with ease.

Route Running: Really improved his routes in 2009. Can cut on a dime, gets in and out of breaks with balance and speed. Runs the deep-double routes effectively. Baits defensive backs with head and body fakes. Has picked up on the weaknesses of zone coverage by finding the holes, smart player.

Size/Length/Hand Size: At under 5’10, Ford will be fighting an uphill battle from the start. He is not one of those smaller guys that can play big, but he can play comfortably within his role. Has some muscle to his frame, more power than one would think.

Speed: One of the fastest players in this draft class. National champion track star that possesses the speed that carries over on to the football field.

Vision/Run After the Catch: Has been used on reverses and screens numerous times. Does well blockers in front of him, can find the small windows and explode through them. 58 career rushing attempts. Does not break a lot of tackles but has been willing to run with power towards the end of plays for that extra yard or two.

Final Word: Jacoby Ford timed faster than any player at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine and unlike so other speed demons, he can actually perform on the field.

His speed can be used downfield, but Ford is mainly an underneath target that teams will want to use in the slot. He averaged 13.4 yards per reception over the past two seasons, which is a low number for such a speed threat. He may not be the every down receiver some thought he could be a few years ago, but his ability to initiate and maintain separation will be coveted by most teams in April.

He is also a weapon with the ball in his hands whether he is returning punts and kicks or getting it on reverses and screens. His role may be limited at the next level, but the sub 4.3 speed combined with his football ability can make him an immediate impact player. Since breaking his ankle in 2007, Ford has not missed a single game despite playing through sternum and rib injuries. He is expected to be taken somewhere in the 3rd round but that sub 4.3 speed can vault him in to the 2nd.”

  303. Bob Marley Says:

More Ford from the Senior Bowl:

“Senior Bowl: Jacoby Ford (Clemson): He was the most consistent receiver on the north squad today. He was frequently getting open in the one-on-one, five-on-seven, and 11-on-11 drills. The QBs targeted him mostly on shallow routes, but he also managed to get separation and make clean catches on deep outs.

What was telling was the fact the north quarterbacks gained confidence in Ford early and increased his targets as the five-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills progressed.

Interestingly, Ford’s impressive play in the team drills came after he cramped up just after a quick practice break while returning a kick off. He got cramps in both calves and literally waddled slowly down the field, stretching his calves for five minutes.

However, when it was time to get opposite a corner, he looked perfectly fine until the very end of practice when he cramped up again. Nothing major, but telling that his body was acting up and he still looked like the most reliable receiver on the field for the north squad.

Senior Bowl: Jacoby Ford (Clemson) didn’t have quite the standout performance like he did yesterday, but he still looked great catching the football.

He does a good job of looking in passes, and is a wide receiver that can become a trusted target because of his solid hands. He was high pointing passes once again today, and only body caught a couple of Canfield passes.”

  304. hwnrdr Says:

Sounds like we may have a winner!!!

  305. RaiderRockstar Says:

BSJ: found these things in the Ford scouting report that should tickel your fancy

-His role may be limited at the next level
-Does not break a lot of tackles
    -track star
-nicely thrown passes bounce off his numbers

Lol yeah right, no one on the Suns can defend Kobe, Pau, Bynum or Odom. The Lakers owned them this season. The Suns lucked out and played an injury riddled Trailblazers and an old Spurs team.

The Lakers will dominate the boards and control the flow of the game. Artest or Kobe will shut down Richardson.

Lakers win in 5, maybe 6 games if the Suns continue this hot from 3 point range…which is doubtful.

Sorry Rockstar, your only hope of a team beating the Lakers is the Magic or the Cavs. The Lakers cruised into the playoffs and due to injuries didn’t play well the last couple of weeks of the regular season, so we lost home court against not only the Cavs, but also the Magic. I think the Magic will come out of the East so that will really hurt us in the finals.

With the 2-3-2 format it is really tough for the road team. Even if they win 1 of the first 2 games on the road, they usually do not win all three at home, so you then have to win ANOTHER road game to take the series. Very Very difficult task.

Glad to see that amongst all this basketball talk for non-local teams that there are a few here that get it :-)

The Sharks are the most dominant team in the NHL playoffs so far, getting through the first two rounds in a mere 11 games total. They are the bay areas best sports team (with Raiders up and coming of course) in the most exciting live sport known to mankind.

And did I mention that I have tickets all the way through the Stanley Cup finals? :D

    M,

That is not going to pass. Humans will eventually colonize Mars to buy us a million years or so once our sun begins to die and expands to the point where the Earth is no longer habitable, and then we will go from Mars to a suitable planet in the Andromeda galaxy prior to the Sun going super nova, where we will then draw some more lines. And then prior to the Big Crunch we will have developed the technology to travel from one universe to another universe, where we will be safe for another 23 billion years…and so on and so forth.

  456. RaiderRockstar Says:

    Greatest Lie Ever Told:

does this count ??? seems more like deception!

Once he rejoined the Raiders organization, Davis ruthlessly attempted to gain power within the club. In 1972, while managing general partner Valley was attending the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Davis drafted a revised partnership agreement that made him the new managing general partner, with near-absolute control over team operations. McGah signed the agreement. Since two of the team’s three general partners had voted in favor of the agreement, it was binding under partnership law of the time. Valley sued to overturn the agreement once he returned to the country, but was unsuccessful. Valley sold his interest in 1976, and no other partners have had any role in running the club since. This was despite the fact that Davis did not acquire a majority interest in the Raiders until 2005, when he bought the shares held by McGah’s family. He now owns approximately 67 percent of the interests in the partnership through his company, A.D. Football, Inc.

In addition to serving as owner, Davis effectively serves as his own general manager. He has run the Raiders’ football operations since his return in 1966—longer than any football operations chief in the league.

Jhill: Cable (even as recent as this offseason) wasn’t ever even told he would remain HC of the Raiders when all that mess came out in the media and they were hounding him about it. Had no input in the decisions to hire Hue Jackson & Mike Waufle. and i’m sure him butting out of every coaching aspect in mini-camp being more of an overseer & demotion from play caller weren’t his decisions. he gave himself a pretty solid grade on play calling after last season.

is this the way you treat a potential GM ???

I mean SOMETHING is going on, or should I say SOMEONE is in Al Davis’ ear.

I always said I would believe it when I saw it regarding Russell getting cut after Al went overhead projector on Lane Kiffin. Just 3 years and he’s gone?

    LMFAO!

Yeah, if Cable can convince Al to cut Russell, he certainly has an inside track at a front office job.

  531. RaiderResurrection Says:

I dunno. Al said he was looking for someone to take his reins ever since the infamous Art Shell firing.

  532. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

I predict little Howie Worthy Dakota will get all the cash he needs for college. And a cherry 18-year old Camaro.

  533. RaiderRockstar Says:

Dakota: is your 16 year old a Raider fan?

if he’s not, i’d second guess the health insurance coverage …

    haha (just kidding)

  534. RaiderResurrection Says:

Well if you guys are old enough to remember Marc Wilson and Jay Schroeder?

How many years did Al give those two retarded buffoons passed as NFL quarterbacks?

He give Jamarcus “Great Player” Russell only three seasons.

Hmmmm…either he’s seeing his own mistakes and trying to fix them, or someone has his ear.

  535. RaiderRockstar Says:

Raiders win the division this season with an offense that produces, do you think Hue Jackson gets HC offers?

Cable’s contract is up next season.

Do we resign Cable as HC and risk losing Hue Jackson?

When Hue Jackson is promoted to HC, what happens to Cable?

  539. lefty12 Says:

Post530-How do you know he wasn’t told he remain? How do you know he had no input on hiring ass’t coaches-link please. He admitted he wore too many hats last year and should give up the play calling. He said so at his end of the year press conference.

Dakota: so you’re a big Jimmy Clausen fan and your son is a big Panthers fan ???

Hmmm… we don’t play them this year

Sunday, Oct. 3_Houston, 1:05 p.m. (what about this game?) have the Raiders demolish his home town team and have him experience the Black Hole in Oakland.

if that doesn’t win him over, he shall be labeled a prodigal son – lost in the world with no hope

  550. Dakota Says:

If Al Davis listens to douche bags like Tee Martin about draft picks then we are in worse trouble than I thought…

And to you Cable GM people (jhill and the other guy) if Cable was such a positive influence as to this offseason why did we have such a schytty offseason last year? Cable isn’t responsible for this offseason, Hue Jackson is the new guy in town influencing Al to make some decent decisions. Cable has been demoted to assistant o-line coach/director of timeout operations.

  551. the_big_one_of_83 Says:

hope something intresting jumps off this week

  552. DMAC Says:

Suspended LB Brian Cushing’s positive test last September was reportedly for abnormally elevated levels of “hCG” — a non-steroidal substance produced naturally by the body.

The catch is, it’s also a popular combo agent during anabolic steroid cycling, and the same thing Manny Ramirez was suspended for in 2009. When injected, hCG can restore testicular size (which is affected by steroids), in addition to produce testosterone. Cushing may not have tested positive for ‘roids, but it’s pretty clear something isn’t right. As SI’s Ross Tucker noted Monday, many players use PEDs during the offseason, when their chances of being tested are down. They then maintain the gains during the season.

You have less proof of Cable influencing anything than I do of Hue Jackson influencing Al Davis. What, Cable’s stellar coaching record get Al’s ear? lmao.

I do know Cable was here last season and we had a poor draft and poor offseason, and then Cable coached us to 5-11, and then Cable was not backed by the Raiders (as they did with Rob Ryan) when there were reports of the Raiders looking for a new HC this offseason…and then you want to believe Al is listening to this guy? hahahahahahaaaa

  557. lefty12 Says:

A business man got on an elevator.

When he entered, there was a blonde already inside who greeted him with a bright,
    “T-G-I-F.”

He smiled at her and replied,
    “S-H-I-T.”

    She looked puzzled and repeated,
    “T-G-I-F,” more slowly.

    He again answered,
    “S-H-I-T.”

The blonde was trying to keep it friendly, so she smiled her biggest smile, and said as sweetly as possibly,
    “T-G-I-F.”

The man smiled back to her and once again,
    “S-H-I-T.”

The exasperated blonde finally decided to explain.

‘T-G-I-F’ means ‘Thank God, It’s Friday.’ Get it, duuhhh?”

    The man answered,
“‘S-H-I-T’ means ‘Sorry, Honey, It’s Thursday’– duuhhh.

  560. RaiderResurrection Says:

AHA! Lefty is a smart man and knows his facts.

    Anybody disagrees?

  561. RaiderRockstar Says:

    new post!!!

  562. Dakota Says:

It is no coincidence that Al hired Hue, a coach that comes from a well run professional organization and suddenly we have a draft that looks like it was done by a well run professional organization.

There is a reason Hue Jackson turned down the Bears OC position for the Raiders…he has been given some enticement to get him to come to Oakland…Al knew he could get Hue on as OC on the cheap and then not have to fire Cable and pay two HCs this season. Hue knows Cable is on thin ice and that in all likelihood Cable will be out after 2010 and Hue will be in the catbird’s seat to take over.

  563. lefty12 Says:

Coaching a team to 5 wins with Russell as your starting QB is quite an accomplishment. He also convinced Davis to get rid of him after he convinced Davis to bench him.To anybody except someone who hates Cable,it is apparent Cable is in Davis’s ear.

    =====

Amen Lefty! I doubt that George Halas, Bill Parcells or John Madden could’ve played the crappy hand dealt to them with any more success.

Cable has made more progress in bringing sanity back to the Raiders decision making process than anyone since Gruden. It’s not going to be quick fix, immediate gratification, so be happy with incremental progress. There’s a lot of damage to be undone! This offseason gives me hope that the ship is turning in the right direction.

As to the discussion of adding a veteran WR: Is T.O. really the only option out there? Mind you, I don’t want him.

Totally unrelated: Is Plexico Burress still in jail? Really just asking, I haven’t followed the news on him at all, apart from reading the headlines.

And Dakota, you can put me on the pro-McFadden list for this season. I think he deserves another chance. I hope he stays healthy and will play a good season for us.

  567. AbusedByAl Says:

OK, I cleared up the Plexico question:
