Ice Cube: Raiders will always belong to L.A.

Don’t forget to check out ESPN at 5 p.m. PDT today for the showing of “Straight Outta L.A.,” Ice Cube’s documentary about the Raiders in Los Angeles.
Our Chuck Barney has seen the piece and here’s what he thinks.
Chuck points out that Ice Cube has this to say about Oakland’s NFL team: “The silver and black might call another place home, but the Raiders will always belong to L.A.”
What do you guys think?

Is this a stupid question or what? Come on, even you can do better than this. Let me ask you a more “reality” based question. He caught two, count ‘em, two balls his lst five games. He caught seven, and a score, the last five he played in before he was “injured.” Is that improvement?
    ==============================================

OK, I REALLY tried to dumb it down, but obviously the word improvement is over your head. Let me say it another way, did DHB seem more gosh darn gussied up the last coupla games?

  • MistaBrown

    SeymourGlen,

Look around. Besides yourself who is saying DHB made ANY improvement? You are dumb as a sack of hammers.

    LMAO

    The end.

You are talking about 2 rookies (Murphy?DHB), one 2nd year guy (Shilens) who hasn’t played that much, and a 3rd year guy (higgins) who really underperformed. I like what I see in Shilens and Murphy tho.

Jason Campbell 2009 Ranking Statistics Among NFL QB’s

    Attempts – 13th – 507
    Completions – 12th – 327
    Percentage – 10th – 64.5%
    Yards – 14th – 3,618
    Yards/Attempt – 15th – 7.14
    Long – 5th – 84
    Touchdowns – 18th – 20
    Interceptions – Tied 9th – 15
    Sacks – 3rd Highest – 43
    QB Rating – 15th – 86.4
    Yards/Game – 16th – 226

    Redskin Rankings

    Total Offense – 22nd
    First Downs – Tied 23rd
    Passing Offense – 16th
    Rushing Offense – 27th
    Receiving – 14th
    Returning – 16th
    Kicking – Tied 19th
    Punting – 21st
    Defense – 10th

Some important statistics show that Campbell was a positive on a bad team. They were 27th in rushing. He was sacked 43 times (3rd highest of all teams) yet most of his stats range from the average to above average in statistics. Based on the stats, the biggest problem was the offensive line. Maybe the playcalling was failing this team as well but Campbell got the most out of what was given to him. His defense was ranked 10th but the Raiders were ranked 1st in Defense on the worst offense ever so teams might have chilled against them.

    Redskins Top ranked Position players:

RB Clinton Portis – Rank 44th
WR Santana Moss – Rank 29th
TE Fred Davis – Rank 88th among WRs/TEs

The Redskins #1 TE was hurt for the year after week 7.

    Increasing his TD’s numbers from 0 – 1 is improvement ?
From a 38 OVERALL draft pick???????
    ==================================

Actually, I would rather have one TD than none, and we are talking about the 8th overall pick, not the 38. I didn’t tell him 8 is greater than 38th as far as NFL draft selection number, because I KNOW that would only REALLY confuse him!

    =================================================

This is a pretty good analysis. Once Campbell lost Chris Samuels his Pro Bowl LT, Chris Cooley his Pro Bowl TE, and Clinton Portis, his Pro Bowl RB, he kind of folded it up. While not a good sign, there is only so much one person can do.

  • 24

Seymour Bush – He might not have folded it up, he just didn’t have the talent on the field he had before all the injuries. He had to rely on lesser talent and we all know what thats done for the Raiders. I will check each of his games for consistency.

  • RaiderMario420

M y sister lives in Portland. Her friends claim it is a Raider town. My cousin lives in Las Vegas. He claims it is a Raider town. In 2002, the season they went to the Super Bowl, I went to 16 games, including away games in SD and ARI. There were more Raider fans there than for the home team. When I was in London and asked the pub owner to turn on an American football game, the patrons said, “Hell no . . . unless it’s the Raider’s game.” I let a girl from Germany come live with me solely because her ad on CraigsList she was wearing a Raider jersey (ok, not solely, she was fine, too). It’s not just a Raider bay, or a Raider state, or even a Raider nation . . .

    it’s a Raider planet!

fine raider german women. Sounds pretty good to me.

Jason Campbell QB Rating game log

    Week 1 – 93.6 Giants Loss 23-17
    Week 2 – 85.7 Rams Win 9-7
    Week 3 – 97.6 Lions Loss 19-14
    Week 4 – 70.5 Bucs Win 16-13
    Week 5 – 104.4 Panthers Loss 20-17
    Week 6 – 46.1 Chiefs Loss 14-6
    Week 7 – 91.6 Eagles Loss 27-17
    Week 8 – Bye
    Week 9 – 92.2 Falcons Loss 31-17
    Week 10 – 100.3 Broncos Won 27-17
    Week 11 – 73.7 Cowboys Loss 7-6
    Week 12 – 73.1 Eagles Loss 27-24
    Week 13 – 111.9 Saints Loss 33-30 (OT)
    Week 14 – 106.6 Raiders Won 34-13
    Week 15 – 57.4 Giants Loss 45-12
    Week 16 – 63.9 Cowboys Loss 17-0
    Week 17 – 101.4 Chargers Loss 23-20

5 Games with 100+ QB Rating
    Panthers, Broncos, Saints, Raiders, Chargers
4 Games with 90+ QB Rating
    Giants, Lions, Eagles, Falcons
1 Game with 80+ QB Rating
    Rams
3 Games with 70+ QB Rating
    Bucs, Cowboys, Eagles

13 of the 16 games had a 70+ QB Rating. All but 4 of those games were good teams which made for 9 quality games in a 16 game season against tough competition.

    Worst QB Rating games
    Chiefs, Giants, Cowboys

2 of these games were in Week 15 and 16 against NFC East teams that were battling hard for playoff spots and it showed as the Redskins were crushed in these games. Despite that, they bounced back to play the Chargers hard in a 23-20 Loss with a 101.4 game in Week 17.

The Redskins lost by 42 total points against 9 teams with the Redskins losing by 4.6 per game. Again, thats 9 games that were lost in close games meaning that 9 of their 12 games were competitive with 3 being blowouts with all 3 being against good teams…the Falcons, Cowboys and Eagles.

Good news. 3 out of Campbell’s 5 100+ QB Rating games were against the AFC West.

    Broncos – 100.3
    Raiders – 106.6
    Chargers – 101.4

    Worst Game?

    Chiefs – 46.1

The good thing is that Campbell plays for us and not against us and hes had success against 2 of the other AFC West teams.

  • Limoraider

I”m a diehard Raiders fan sayin keep em in Oakland so all the people in LA including myself be the one’s to see more games on TV hahaha besides all the celebritys want em back so they don’t have to waste money on plane fare every home game , maybe Ice Cube can be M.C.Hammers neighbor & pay his way to da game lmao!

  • QUAGRAIDER

this team has had its best off season in over a decade, giving us…”the fans” something to look forward too for the first time in a long time, and all you can do now is be devisive??!! phuking idiots…WE ARE RAIDER NATION NO MATTER WHERE THEY PLAY OR STAY!!!!

I don’t post on here much because I have outgrown a lot of the idle bs that happens here. I’m not saying the other JWB is posting anything that i feel opposed to, I just want people to know there are now 2 of us.

  • Mickey Rat

I’m an old fart. Was a fan of the old AFL. Been solidly a Raider fan since the beginning. If any of you knew your Raider history, Oakland wasn’t the team’s first hometown (even though they were called the Oakland Raiders) they originally played in Kesar Satdium in San Francisco. The Raiders are a national team much like the Cowboys and Packers are and have many large chunks of fan base everywhere (I live in Vegas now). No matter where they play (even in the LA days)the team is really the OAKLAND RAIDERS. They will start filling the Coliseum again once they start winning games again. That is the bottom line.

  • WICKED L.A. RAIDER

I HAVE TO SAY I LOVE ALL MY RAIDER NATION, BUT EVERYONE HAS TO ADMIT THAT THEIR HOME SHOULD BE IN LOS ANGELES. LOS ANGELES FANS ARE THE MOST DIE HARD FANS. WE TRULY PUT THE E IN EXTREME. THE FANS OF THE L.A. RAIDERS REALLY MADE THE WHOLE REPUTATION OF WHAT IT IS TODAY. I ATTEND GAMES IN OAKLAND AND ALTHOUGH THEY ARE EXCITING THEY ARE NOTHING LIKE THEY WERE IN THE L.A. COLISEUM. LOS ANGELES DID SOMETHING FOR THE RAIDERS AND AL DAVIS THAT OAKLAND COULD NOT AND ISN’T DOING FOR THEM RIGHT NOW. EVERYONE WATCHING LAST NIGHT CAN NOT DENY IT AND EVEN AL DAVIS EXPRESSED IT WHEN HE SAID L.A. CAN COME KNOCKING ON THE DOOR AS SOON AS WE GET A STADIUM BUILT. HE KNOWS THAT L.A. IS WHERE HE AND THE TEAM TRULY WANTS TO BE. I AGREE WE ALL LOVE THE SILVER AND BLACK BUT ALL OF YOU IN OAKLAND NEED TO REALIZE THAT IF YOU TRULY WANT THE RAIDERS TO BE SUCCESSFUL AS DAYS OF OLD YOU NEED THEM TO PLAY IN A MARKETABLE CITY,AND A CITY WHERE YOU CAN SELL OUT GAMES AND OAKLAND ISN’T IT! IF THEY WHERE IN L.A. SELL OUTS WOULD BE INEVIDIBLE. THE CITY OF ANGELS BABY THAT’S WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.

  • WICKED L.A. RAIDER

LOS ANGELES WOULD BE A LURE FOR TOP TALENT IN THE LEAGUE TO COME TO THE RAIDER ORGANIZATION, THEY MIGHT OVERLOOK HAVING TO DEAL WITH AL DAVIS IF THEY COULD LIVE IN SUNNY LOS ANGELES. ADMIT IT OAK TOWN IS BEAT UP FROM THE FEET UP. THE RAIDERS DESERVE MORE THAN THAT! I’LL JUST BE HAPPY IF THEY HAD THEIR OWN STADIUM AND NOT HAVE TO SHARE A BASEBALL FEILD. I’LL TRAVEL BUT I WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE SOMEWHERE WHERE IT’S ON AND CRACKIN. HOMIE I’M A HOOD BORN G BUT THERE IS NOTHING POPPIN IN OAKLAND UNLESS YOU SMOKE CRACK OR WANT TO GO TO BACK YARD BOOGIES. NO NIGHT LIFE WHATSOEVER! MAN I WAS IN OAKLAND AND I COULDN’T EVEN FIND A LIQOUR STORE THAT SOLD LIQOUR AFTER 10 O’CLOCK. NO DISRESPECT TO OAKLAND BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS!

  • GaterRaider

332 & 333 ARE BIASED BS. THE NAME “LA RAIDERS” DOESNT EVEN HAVE THE SAME RING AS “OAKLAND RAIDERS”!

OAK’ND RAIDERS!!! The LA made us soft!

  • GruesomeR8rFan

Anyone that says the Raiders belong is L.A. isn’t a Raider fan, they left for a reason.
Fans from Oakland are Raider fans.
Fans from L.A. are fans of the image of the Raiders.

And yes, I am speaking in a general sense, there are actual Raider fans in L.A. and vice versa.

  • souldogdave

The Raiders are Oakland. End of story.LA wannabees claiming the Raiders, well, you DON’T EVEN HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM. Biggest market in the world, can’t get a team. Even San Diego has a team, but not LA.Watch basketball, Cube. Thugs that wear the silver and black are not fans.

Cube did it justice. I mean, he’s clearly an amateur filmmaker but overall – not bad at all: here’s a good L.A.-centric take: http://bit.ly/dbidRr
