No joint Raiders-49ers practices

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, June 7th, 2010 at 1:30 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Forty-Niners coach Mike Singletary told the media at the 49ers organized team activity session Monday there will be no joint practices with the Raiders.

“I just think that this year, we’ll stay among ourselves,” Singletary said, according to the Twitter account of Santa Rosa Press-Democrat beat writer Phil Barber.

A rumored joint practice set-up with the Dallas was rejected by Dallas last week.

Last season’s 49ers-Raiders practices were forgettable ones for the Raiders.

The most significant thing was the loss of wide receiver Chaz Schilens, who broke the fifth metatarsal on his left foot, missed the first half of the season and had a second surgery in the offseason. Schilens isn’t expected to take the field until training camp.

There was also a practice session during which the Raiders offense was brutalized by the 49ers defense, exposing the Oakland passing game and JaMarcus Russell with an embarrassing string of sacks and turnovers.

that describes about every game from JaWalrus too, doesn’t it?

  4. JB Says:

That’s OK. It’s better this way. We’ll see them on October 17th for real. We can kick their as then when it really counts. I think they’ll find Jason Campbell a little more effective than the JaMeatloaf. Hopefully our newly reformed O-line will have something to contribute too. I would be nice to deliver a real balanced offense.

  5. Dakota Says:

Who would want to practice with the 49ers anyhow?

  6. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Practicing with the 49ers would be like kissing your sister….just ask MR what that’s like….or was it his cousin…..either way its called incest!

Yeah, Jerry forgot to point out that he broke that bone while simply in the act of running. Heart of steele, body of glass.

it would be nice to see what McFadden, Bush, Satele & Barnes look like against a team that can actually stop the run … right?

I mean Satele at C & Barnes or Campbell at RG might be pretty solid against Kelly & Bryant, but what about some real competition ???

sort of deceiving to have your running game average 6 yards per carry against your own defense and 3 yards per carry against everybody elses imo

  9. RaiderRockstar Says:

SNB: MR wanted to do more than just kiss his cousin …

  10. KoolKell Says:

You’d think a Pro-Football team with the lowest attendance in the entire NFL, might want to make nice with the fans, no?

Why can’t Raider fans have access to their new offensive hope this year, Hue Jackson?

  11. RaiderRockstar Says:

Kell: Al Davis could care less about giving you hope …

he wants to win games next year. everything else matters not

If Allen Davis is so single-minded focused on wins, why hasn’t he produced any?

  14. Pretty Rick Says:

Im more interested to see how the team looks in training camp. I see the Raiders got jerked in the team ratings for Madden 11, 71,? we get the same ratings as the chiefs? I thought Rolando McClain’s ratings would be a tid bit higher than a 79, being that they gave Eric Berry an 85 rating. Cant wait for the new Madden to come out,,still a kid at heart.

Just about anyone (Grads proved that) was an improvement over whats his face. Campbell should be better and Grads provides back up that can win if needed.

The O line still has huge question marks, but more depth. At5 least we won’t be trolling mid season for injury replacements.

Kell: what choices do we have for GM?

it’s always been Al Davis, even if he did have some help back in the day …

  23. souldogdave Says:

It just shows they can see the pendulum swing the Raider way. Team will have many more wins this upcoming season, for many reasons. Better players, coaching, attitude, etc. First game is the Titans, GO RAIDERS

    you don’t agree?

solid offseason for the old man imo

  28. Dakota Says:

I read that Jason Campbell’s QB rating in Madden 2011 is 70, but Tim Teblows is 78.

  29. Pretty Rick Says:

Tebow’s rating is a 70,,Denver’s overall team rating is a 78,,too high if you ask me.

  30. Just Fire Baby Says:

I think Tebow will be starting games by the end of the year for the last placed Broncos.

  31. Just Fire Baby Says:

Jamarcus Russell was drafted to turnaround a terrible offense. Didn’t work out so well.

I think McClain will have a lot more success turning around this at-times terrible defense.

  32. Dakota Says:

I read that Jason Campbells QB rating in Madden 2011 is 85, but Tim Belows is 99.

  33. Dakota Says:

I don’t think Teblow will have an NFL career as successful as Jamarcus Russell’s. Don’t you have to be able to throw the ball to be a QB? Anyone else watch the Senior Bowl practices and game? The guy fukin sucks!

  34. the_big_one_of_83 Says:

maddenis over rated i liked that espn game better when it was out in 05 or 04 but im going to try that new football game that has come out

  35. Just Fire Baby Says:

Tebow is a freak athlete with off the charts leadership skills and work ethic. The Senior Bowl?? LMAO….obviously NFL GM’s (or at least 1) don’t put a whole lot of stock on that game.

Worst thing that happened to us was that he was drafted within the division.

  36. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Tebow and Javier Arenas.

Two guys drafted by divisional foes this year that we will have to deal with for years to come.

  37. Just Fire Baby Says:

I think just about every GM would trade Jason Campbell for Tim Tebow, and not many would trade Tebow for Jason Campbell.

  38. Just Fire Baby Says:

With all that said, I hope Tebow turns out to be a closet homosexual, a terrible QB and a terrible person who ends up under a bridge somewhere.

  39. Raider75 Says:

Tim Tebow is has no NFL game and has shown nothing on the field.

Little early to induct him into the HOF.

  40. Raider75 Says:

Every GM would trade Campbell for Tebow?

Put the weed down and back away sir. Your brain needs oxygen.

  41. Kirk Says:

Screw Tebow, I’d rather have Campbell.

And I’d rather have Clausen than Tebow too.

  42. Dakota Says:

Two or three idiotic NFL teams had interest in Teblow…most sane teams had zero interest in him unless it was round 6 or 7.

  43. Just Fire Baby Says:

Tebow was drafted in the first round this year.

Campbell was ditched for a 4th rounder in two years!!!

I’m pretty sure the market is much higher for Tim Tebow right now, right or wrong.

Two or three idiotic NFL teams had interest in Teblow…most sane teams had zero interest in him unless it was round 6 or 7.

    *************************************

Nonsense. One team drafted him at #21, and felt like they had to trade up to do it.

Peter King (SI) reported that teams were banking on being able to trade up for the first pick in the second round to get Tebow, and the team most disappointed in Tebow going #21 was the Rams, who had multiple trade offers for pick #33 by teams who wanted Tebow.

  45. Dakota Says:

Teblow will be the undoing of McDaniels in Denver. McDaniels will try and force Teblow into playing in 2011 to justify his selecting him in the first round and that will be the end of him as Denver’s HC as it is apparent that Teblow cannot complete NFL passes.

Teblow will soon be a joke in NFL circles.

Teams don’t work out and have dinner with 6th round picks, and Al might have taken Tebow in the second.

Really Dakota, two or three idiotic teams or else a 6th rounder? You telling me a universally considered well-run team traded up to draft a guy a 150 picks too early? LMAO!!!!

Just this talk of Tebow being drafted as a FB or TE and lasting until the 5th round is the complete fabrication of the media.

It obviously didn’t happen, he was picked #21 for christ sake.

  52. Dakota Says:

This may sound crazy, but one reason signing T.O. could make sense is that we really don’t have a veteran leader on the offense. From what I hear if Gradkowski was starting he’d take that role, but it doesn’t sound like that’s Campbell’s personality. No one else on the offense is established enough to grab that mantle.

And it seems like T.O. may have chilled out a little since Dallas cut him. Plus he’s always been known as a guy who works hard and plays hard (which is why the Randy Moss comparrisons are a little off). And I just get the sense he’s looking to soften his image as his career winds down and he possibly gears up to go before the HOF voters and TV networks. Definitely some risk there but I’d be willing to make the gamble. He’s getting older and he’s not the player he once was, but he’s been fairly healthy for most of his career and has always been in phenomenal shape. A few other WRs of that age have been able to stay productive in recent years.

  109. Lord Beeecham Says:

Charged Down, trying to act tough by talking like Philip Rivers trying to act tough is no way to get your point across.

Remember, when all of your professional teams combined have have a grand total of 0 championships, you need to act a lot less like a tough little quarterback crybaby and more like my obedient pool boy.

Just show up, clean up and keep wishing you knew what it was like to be a winner and get all the fine ladies. Holla!

  110. PU DEGRAHC Says:

You don’t know what is like to be a winner Beeecham. Your team hasn’t won in over 25 years!!! Since you appear to no older than 16 or 17, you have never experienced a championship either. At least my team is always in contention.

  111. PU DEGRAHC Says:

Adrian Peterson hopes heavy football helps reduce fumbles

    from pFT

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson promised in January that he’d work on fixing his fumbling problems this offseason. Part of that work involves doing running back drills while carrying a football that weighs 14 pounds.

NFL Network caught up with Peterson in Minnesota today and shot video of him and other Vikings players working with the sand-filled ball that was described as football’s version of a medicine ball.

Solomon Wilcotts of NFL Network, who interviewed Peterson, said the thinking is, “If you can secure a 14-pound football, you probably can hold onto the ball when defenders are pulling and tugging at it.”

Will it work? Who knows? But Peterson knows that reducing his fumbles has to be his top offseason priority.

Wilcotts also reported that Peterson and everyone else in Minnesota seems to believe that Brett Favre will be back before the season starts.

  114. Plunketthead Says:

Can they make a football that weighs as much as 5 gallon bucket of paint for DMAC

  115. Lord Beeecham Says:

“My team is always in contention”!!! You are just too cute for words, little guy!

Charged Down, I’ve been lucky enough to witness multiple championships by the Dodgers, Lakers and Raiders. That’s a lot of championships that I’ve celebrated by nailing a lot of San Diego ladies, little dude!

Meanwhile, the Padres, Chargers, Gulls and Sockers (sorry, I just threw those last 2 in for fun!) total ZERO championships. Combined.

I’m a Lakers fan. So, I have experienced my share of championships. As far as you being alive when the Raiders won, you are a liar. There is no way you are that old. If you are, you must be mentally retarded.

  119. Lord Beeecham Says:

Ahhh, so the little Charged Down from San Diego finally comes clean – you root for LA teams!

I guess you really have no choice when your teams can’t win a championship. Oh, but they can stay in contention every year, right? Man, that is your most classic line of ALL TIME!

Man, I’ve met so many like you Charged Down, unhappy Charger fans who hide in the closet while they root feverishly for LA teams. That must’ve been hard to admit, huh CD?

  139. fat kidd Says:

Veteran wide receiver Isaac Bruce will call it a career at a press conference Wednesday, and he’ll do so in St. Louis, site of 13 of his 16 NFL seasons, thanks to a trade sending him from San Francisco back to the Rams.

Bruce, 37, came into the league in 1994 with the Los Angeles Rams, then moved with that franchise to St. Louis. From 1995-2007 Bruce made 921 catches and hauled in 81 TD receptions. Bruce will end his stellar career with 1,024 catches for 15,208 yards — second-most all time, behind only Jerry Rice — and 91 touchdowns.

San Francisco will receive no compensation for the “trade” — essentially a show of respect by the 49ers toward Bruce. In two seasons with the 49ers, Bruce had 99 receptions and seven touchdowns, but suited up just twice in the final eight weeks of the 2009 regular season. The first of those appearances, in Week 11, featured Bruce’s last NFL catch, a 20-yarder against Green Ba

If we could have traded Russell, Nick Miller, Marcel Reece and a few late round draft picks to get him that would be a good deal imo

I’m not sold on Bruce Campbell, Jacoby Ford, Travis Goethel, Jeremy Ware or Stevie Brown.

I wouldn’t have drafted any of those dudes…

ok, so I have a question. Why 29-83?

When is the cut off to being relevent? What about 33-15 which was their record between 2000 and 2002. OR what about 35-13 which was their record between 1983-1985. OR what about 37-4-1 which was their record between 1967-1969.

    WHY 29-83? Why can’t it be 40-88? or 14-34 or 5-11?

Why do SOME people KEEP going on and on about 29-83? Do they think all the rest of us Raider fans don’t remember? I certainly can’t speak for everyone but I frickin remember those years. It has been painful. Why would anyone want to re-hash, over and over and over and over and over the last 7 years? Why rub salt in the wound. Yeah, we get it, th last 7 years the Raiders have not played well. BUT, how do you expect to move forward by looking back?

29-83, 40-88, 14-34, 37-4-1, hell, it is all history, in the past. It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day! We have new players, we play different teams, we have a new coach, we seem to have a new attitude.

What a sad, sad thing. To go into a new season full of possibilities and yet still choose to have no hope.

Do I think we are going to win the Super Bowl this year? No, but yet I still choose to have hope. Hope that we finish 8-8. Hope that we win our division. Hope that we can stop the BIG plays. Hope that our young receivers can stay healthy. Hope that Hue decides to try and get the ball to McFadden in open space. Hope that they get the ball to Bush more than 220 times. Hope~~~~ Why would anyone not want to have hope?

  220. Just Fire Baby Says:

    3 mile Lyle,

You are dead on about the need for a RB. The way I see it, our second best back last year (Fargas) can’t even get a job from another team.

If Bush goes down, what do we have? A bunch of crap at RB with an average at best O-line.

Complete recipe for disaster. Marshawn would easily be our best guy taking handoffs, especially getting those 7-8 yard runs that are so vital to an offense.

Michael Bush with all his size, is not a pounder. He has way more 50 yard runs than those tough 8 yard runs when the back breaks a tackle and drags a defender a couple extra yards.

  221. hwnrdr Says:

    So, Bob Hope?

  222. hwnrdr Says:

I’ll take Marshawn…I’m sure he’ll love to come home!

  223. Just Fire Baby Says:

If we can get McFadden to be as productive as Reggie Bush I would be elated.

And really, Reggie Bush isn’t that good and rarely sees more than a handful of carries a game.

I think that’s what Hue will do with Darren. Get him in some mismatches, hope to have him catch 60 passes, and stop giving him carries.

  224. RaiderRockstar Says:

Bush, McFadden, Bennett & Cartwright are good enough to get the job done imo

  225. Just Fire Baby Says:

The Tea Party folks should have two more candidates at the end of the day: Sharron Angle and Nikki Haley.

Yes, just like McFadden, Bush, Fargas and Rankin were good enough to get the job done last year right? How did that work out?

Some teams have two RB’s, better than our top one.

I really hope Bennett or Cartwright can come in and be an upgraded and better version of Fargas, because Justin was our second best back last year at taking carries, and was our best pass-blocker and least fumbler of the group.

  228. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

    Bring the BEAST home!

I hear all Buffalo wants is a 4th.

    Go Raiders!

  229. Just Fire Baby Says:

8 is about 6 to many. 3.4 ypc was like 140th in the league or something.

Now 8 catches a game, we might be on to something.

  230. Just Fire Baby Says:

Darren, like Reggie Bush, has great hands and good route-running skills. Sometimes the Saints just throw a little 4 yard pass to Bush and he gets tackled immediately, but that is better than giving him a carry and watching him dance his way to the sideline for a 1 yard gain.

Same should be with Darren. Nobody wants to see him plow into his O-lineman again, or have him see some daylight only to slip and fall again. Throw him a 3 yard pass, he WILL catch it, and if he doesn’t break a tackle, who cares, 3 yards is pretty good for him.

  231. jhill Says:

Just don’t get the McFadden critics.

McFadden was used as a “WEAPON” in college, not a pound it out RB. It’s pretty obvious that McFadden should be used in the slot and on plays like he designed for Cable in Denver.

Get the dude is space on screens and edge runs and let’s see what happens. Get him matched up in coverage against a LB or S and lets see what happens.,

    Cable was a clown OC!

If we bring Lynch in, it needs to be as the starter.

  235. jhill Says:

    McFadden has been HURT!

  237. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

  238. Just Fire Baby Says:

Michael Bush and Darren McFadden are to Marshawn Lynch as Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller are to Jason Campbell.

  239. RaiderRockstar Says:

Yes, just like McFadden, Bush, Fargas and Rankin were good enough to get the job done last year right? How did that work out?

    ***

Fire Baby: Yes, they were good enough to get the job done imo

but play calling, injuries, terrible QB, WR & O-Line play made our offense predictable and inept.

enter Hue Jackson, Jason Campbell, Jared Veldheer, Bruce Campbell, Langston Walker, Jacoby Ford (on returns) and healthy WR’s with another year of experience under thier belts. I think Gallery returning healthy and Satele with another offseason to have the zbs down pat should offer a big boost to the O-Line as well.

if Jordan, Fargas, Rhodes & Echemandu are good enough to get the job done behind Sims, Gallery, Grove, Carlisle & Green with McCown & Culpepper at QB and Kiffin as the head man then i’m sure our RB’s are good enough with this supporting cast. give them another shot, you won’t be disappointed

  247. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

    Bush has shown flashes.

McFalldown has shown he can’t stay healthy, he can’t break tackles, and he can’t hold on to the rock.

Neither of them have proven they can carry a running game at this level.

    The BEAST has.

  250. Just Fire Baby Says:

Lynch has one bad year because he doesn’t like it in Buffalo, NY (besides Jim Kelly who does) and he isn’t as good as Mike Bush?

His first two years he had over 1,300 yards from scrimmage and almost 10 TD’s.

Do you think McFadden can muster that up in two injury plagued season? I have my doubts.

  251. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

It doesn’t need to be the Beast.

But the Raiders are one injury away from having one of the weakest running back corps in the league.

  253. RaiderRockstar Says:

Lynch has gotten worse each year.

    2007 1115 yards
    2008 1036 yards
    2009 450 yards

averaged 3.8 yards per carry last year – like Justin Fargas

  254. jhill Says:

But the Raiders are one injury away from having one of the weakest running back corps in the league.

    ——————————————————

I think that would apply to all teams who have a their #1 RB go down.

  255. RaiderRockstar Says:

JaMarcus Russell & Marshawn Lynch are cousins.

    I’ll pass

  256. jhill Says:

and he isn’t as good as Mike Bush?

    ——————————————————-

That’s debateable, but the point is he would come here and get no more than 8-10 carries a game. McFadden and Bush are going to get touches also.

I don’t know that Marshawn Lynch is the guy to fill that role. ESPECIALLY with the off the field antics to go along with it.

  257. RaiderRockstar Says:

Lynch has one bad year because he doesn’t like it in Buffalo, NY

    ***

Lynch has embraced the Buffalo community, in stark contrast to former Bills RB Willis McGahee, as noted by an interview with ESPN’s Kenny Mayne. In the video interview, which has become an internet sensation, Lynch talks about his love of Applebees, and his teammates joke that he loves chain restaurants. (WIKI)

Lynch was nicknamed “Money” in college.

Didn’t we just cut a former 1st round bust with that nickname ??? Gerard “Money” Warren ring a bell?

  258. Just Fire Baby Says:

2008 he also had over 400 yards receiving, which put him in the top 20 for yards from scrimmage IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.

Knock the character or the disdain to give up a pick for him, but can’t knock the production. It is clearly better than anything we have here, at least as of yet.

  259. SinceFrankYouellField Says:

As always, you can prove any point by quoting “stats” and eliminating what doesn’t prove your point. E.G., Marshawn Lynch had 30 less carries his second year than his first. Third year, had less than half the carries he had his second year.

  260. jhill Says:

what about Cable & Barnes? not exactly clean as a whistle …

    ——————————————————-

Cable is on his way to the front office with his old buddy Hanson. When we win 11 games next year, Hue will get HC considerations from other team. Al’s not letting Hue go. If we lose, Cable’s gone anyway. As lame as any duck out there.

Barnes??? What trouble was he in? I have no problem cutting his arss with big Bruce in the house now!

  261. RaiderRockstar Says:

On January 25, 2007, Lynch was accused of sexual assault by his former girlfriend. The incident reportedly happened on December 13, 2006, outside the woman’s home in Emeryville, California. On January 29, 2007, an Alameda County Deputy District Attorney who specializes in domestic violence cases declined to press charges, citing a lack of evidence and “grave inconsistencies” in the alleged victim’s accusations. Lynch was never arrested or charged.

On March 3, 2007, an Alameda County judge threw out a restraining order that Lynch’s ex-girlfriend had issued against him because it was obtained improperly.

During June 2008, Lynch was investigated for his involvement in a hit and run accident that occurred in Buffalo on May 31, 2008. His 2008 Porsche Cayenne struck and injured Kimberley Shpeley, of Ontario, Canada, before leaving the scene. It should be noted that Shpeley was extremely intoxicated, and dancing in the middle of the street. After the 27 day saga, on June 26, 2008, Lynch apologized and accepted a guilty plea to a single count of failure to exercise due care to avoid striking a pedestrian, a traffic violation. He was assessed a $100 fine, and his driver’s license and car registration were revoked. Because a Buffalo police officer gave testimony that Shpeley did not suffer “severe physical injury,” Lynch avoided criminal charges for the incident. Lynch was later sued by Shpeley on December 28, 2009 for negligence. Shpeley’s first lawyer, who many Buffalo residents may recognize from television ads, refused to represent her, presumably because he didn’t see potential to win the case.

Three days after his 2009 Pro Bowl appearance, Lynch was arrested on February 11 in Culver City, California. Lynch and two companions were sitting in a running 2006 Mercedes-Benz when police approached; after smelling marijuana, the police searched the car and discovered a loaded gun that was determined to belong to Lynch. He was released the same day after posting $35,000 bail. Lynch’s felony charge was reduced to three misdemeanors, and no drug charges were filed. On March 5, Lynch pled guilty to a single misdemeanor gun charge and was sentenced to three years of probation, and 80 hours of community service. He also agreed to submit to police searches at any time. The two other misdemeanor gun charges were dismissed.

Lynch was accused of stealing $20 from the wife of a Buffalo police officer in a local TGI Friday’s on December 7, 2009. A complaint was filed against him the next day.

  262. Just Fire Baby Says:

    What a couple misdeameanors?

LMAO….only in lily-azz Buffalo would they care about that.

  263. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

We all hope McFalldown busts out this year and becomes the player he was projected to be, but to this point he has done NOTHING.

We all hope Bush can be the answer but his conditioning, running style and overall attitude hasn’t been exactly Walter Payton-esque.

I feel like if the Raiders are going to be competitive this year they are going to have to lean on a physical running game to give their defense a break and a chance to make plays.

As of right now the Raiders lack a true pounder between the tackles. Injuries are a part of this league and all I’m saying we need more competition at the running back spot.

    Hopefully a bruiser.

    Go Raiders!

  264. RaiderRockstar Says:

Barnes??? What trouble was he in? I have no problem cutting him with big Bruce in the house now!

    ***

On November 9, 2006 Barnes was arrested for speeding (101mph) down J. Turner Butler Boulevard, and driving under the influence of alcohol. The license plate on the Barnes’ 2007 silver Mercedes had also expired. He spent several hours in the Duval County jail before being released on $500 bond. Barnes was benched for the next game against the Houston Texans. On July 11 Barnes was sentenced to six months probation, pay $650 in fines and court costs, perform 50 hours of community service, attend a drunken driving class and have his driver’s license suspended for six months.

If the Bills get a 6th rounder for Lynch, it will be way more compensation than what Kirk went for.

And the reason Lynch hasn’t changed scenes is the same reason why Haynesworth is sitting in nowheres-ville, and mulitple Pro Bowl guys like TO and John Henderson don’t have a job.

Teams want to see what they already have in camp, and than after that baseline assessment, than the TO’s and John Henderson’s will start seeing more calls.

Main reason is that he’s one slip up away from a season long suspension. We don’t need that on this team..

  280. Raider O Says:

    So WHY trade…*

  281. SinceFrankYouellField Says:

And DMac can still be a valuable asset….IF he doesn’t have to play injured as he did the past 2 years….and IF he is utilized properly. He never was a between the tackles runner….even in college…yet Raiders kept trying to use him that way. His college OC made it perfectly clear that DMac is a versatile (read that, “gimmick”) player. Arkansas created an offense to play to DMac’s strengths…..create misdirection and get him in space. If Hue Jackson does that, he will be hailed as a genius and a lot of folks will be clamoring for him to take Cable’s job. Who knows if Jackson would be any better as HC. Plenty of great OC’s make crummy HC’s….and vice versa.

Personally I would LOVE to see a season where the Raiders don’t have a bunch of injuries of key players (Is God mad at uncle Al, too?). I would LOVE to see a season where the offense and defense play to the strengths of the players instead of forcing players to play in schemes that do not fit their skill sets. Those two factors alone would make a big difference, IMO.

And, although I usually agree with just about everything RockStar professes, I would like to see DMac moved around more. And that creates the need for the “Pounder” some of you keep requesting. With Bush getting most of the carries (and he is the type of runner that improves as the game goes on….and he can develop momentum and “feel”) the Raiders still need a third down back.

And, yes, the positions Rocker mentioned are somewhat lacking as well……………

  282. Raider O Says:

Favre now turns 41 in October (is a grandpa) and is likely coming back for another season and everybody in Minny has high expectations

  363. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

The 2000 team was special, though. That smashmouth brand of football we were using, with the “committee” of running backs, was just awesome. Loved that 4 yards and a cloud of dust, and Gannnon’s scrambling.

Trivia: Who can name the entire “committee”?

  364. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Gannnon had a weak arm but he was smart and a hard worker he studied film and knew the playbook.

I know he won the MVP after Fat Saragusa fell on him but his shoulder was never the same after that. He kept injuring it.

    Thats wall I was saying!

  365. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

The thing that changed with Gannon is that he stopped scrambling after ‘00. Remember how that was 70% of our offense that year? Gannon would always run for it, and many times for big yards. We were just unstoppable, and we ran the ball a lot. And we were putting up like 34 points and blowing teams out. Just an awesome year.

  366. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

We got Gannon when he was 33. Couldn’t expect more than a few good years out of him. I don’t know if I like going in the direction of “If Gannon would have been healthy after ‘03″. It reeks of blaming Gannon for the big collapse. Come on. Gannon is the second most valuable veteran we’ve signed in history (Plunkett).

  367. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Gannon was a winner he found ways to get things done and he worked harder than most. He was a late bloomer he didn’t start util later in his career.

  373. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

    the big bone in 83

seriously you cant understand that……Ok let me spell it out for you like you are a 4th grader.

When Gruden left it was a couple of years later that we saw how much he held the team together especially after a failed attempt by Callahan to keep order and maintain the level of play they had evolved to under the Gruden era. Its pretty obvious to the rest of Raider Nation and I hope that one day you will have enough brain cells to comprehend this

Or are you so feeble minded that you blame Callahan for our demise?

  374. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

I know MR its like he thinks Callahan was responsible for the collapse!

  375. Just Fire Baby Says:

We were just fine for a year after Gruden left, so yes he was only “part of it”.

I think losing an MVP QB is much more dire to a team than losing an above-average coach.

  376. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

The team was punched in the gut when Al traded Gruden. However Gruden was on his way out and was chasing the big payday so it was smart of Al to get something for him.

It all started with the gay retarded media saying Gruden wants the Notre Dame job!!!

  377. Just Fire Baby Says:

If your not going to give credit to Callahan for taking his team furthur than the previous coach, than in all fairness you have to apply the same principals to Gruden and give him no credit for his Super Bowl.

  378. Just Fire Baby Says:

Gruden wanted the Notre Dame job!!!! He even said it was his dream job, and I am sure as shyt he will coach there before all is said and down.

  379. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

When Gruden left the system he put in place started to deteriorate and then losing a few star players only accelerated the bleak situation.

Also the players lost faith in the organization as a whole and Callahan didn’t help.

  380. Just Fire Baby Says:

The turning point of this organization was Barrett Robbins night on the town in TJ.

  381. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

If Gruden WANTED the Notre dame job he could have had it three times already Einstein!

It was a distraction that cost us a 4 game losing streak and eventually made us travel to New England to play in the (tuck rule) game.

  382. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

The turning point was the talking heads on ESPN telling Gruden he will get a 25 million dollar contract if he coached anywhere but Oakland!

The other turning point was that retard Callahan thinking he could use a Gruden designed offense and a Gruden designed game plan against Gruden?

We could have ran the ball down Tampa’s throat but Callahan said he is sticking with what got us there and didn’t want to change the game plan.

  383. Just Fire Baby Says:

Sometimes you have the dance with the girl you brought to the ball.

Just Fire, Gannon would have never come here if it wasn’t for Gruden, so Gannon’s demise is part of Gruden leaving.

  386. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Who am I kidding I will pork a fat chick so I cant say anything!!

  387. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Gruden will coach again he is just waiting for the right team with the right owner or front office…..a team like Dallas would be a good fit for him.

  388. Just Fire Baby Says:

I think Rich Gannon came here because we paid him more than anyone else would, and he would have came if Charlie Brown was the coach.

  389. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

It’s all about what a coach does, Just Fire. The whole, “Well, if CAllahan isn’t to credit for our 2002 season then Gruden shouldn’t get credit for TB’s 2002 season” is a cop out. What did Callhan bring to the Raiders? You had some defensive free agents that would have come even if Gruden was there, virtually no changes to the offense personnel wise. In Tampa Bay, while Gruden inherited a great defense, Tampa’s offense was just putrid and non existent under Dungy. Gruden made their offense competent.

  390. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Rich Gannon would have not have come here to play in Joe Bugel’s system, Just Fire. Not for a trillion dollars. And they wouldn’t have wanted Gannon anyway. Gruden desired Gannon’s skills. Gannon’s style of play makes Al DAvis puke. Gannon was all Gruden. You’re never going to convince anyone otherwise.

  391. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I see Gruden going to Dallas, too, 666. These Davis minions who love to boast about Gruden being out of the league are going to be real happy when Gruden’s in big D with a big checkbook, and winning. Of course, that’s when they’ll revert back to, “OK, Gruden’s good, but Al Davis founded him”. Then, of course, we’ll have to pull up that youtube video of that Fox pre game show in ‘97 where they report on half the league being after Gruden. lol.

  392. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Gruden instilled a work ethic that we have not seen since. That is why he liked veterans and older players he knew they will work hard for him and not miss meetings and crap like that.

  393. Just Fire Baby Says:

    MR,

Weren’t you just heckling Richochet over his “the team will improve but not win more games” quote.

Explain to me how “Bill Callahan was a worse coach but took his team furthur” isn’t the same exact same thing.

BTW, I am not saying Callahan is a better coach, because he is not. But as you said repeatadly over the last week, the NFL is judged by wins and losses. 2002 Bill trumped anything Gruden ever did here, and deserves a lot of credit for that, IMO.

  394. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Gruden combined with a big checkbook like Jerry Jones would be scary if you ask me!

  395. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

The bottom line is that Gruden’s a good coach. He just is. But Al Davis’s loyalists have to be loyal, and it’s a hard job. They have to deconstruct the good of every single Davis detractor. It’s not a fun job.

  396. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Just Fire, you’re right. The NFL is judged by wins and losses, and Gruden WON a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, which is kind of the ultimate goal.

  397. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Also, Gruden won 12 games in ‘00, which is the most games a Raider team has won in Oakland since returning from LA. So Gruden only had himself to top if your’e talking regular season record.

  398. Just Fire Baby Says:

Gruden will go back to coaching, but it will be on the collegiate level.

Look at what george seifert did in fagland.

He took over for bill Walsh and won a super bowl the next year. he also maintained that level of winning for years after that. Callahan could only ride the coat tails of a well built Gruden team for one year then he flopped his second year.

  404. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Gruden rebuilt the Raiders, turned them into a winner, then went to Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl. He’s a great coach. Just admit it, Just Fire. You’re just embarrassing yourself.

  406. Just Fire Baby Says:

Gannon deserves more credit than Gruden, by a hair, from 00-02. QB’s are just way more valuable than coaches.

Didn’t the worst coach ever Art Shell take us to the playoffs twice? There are dozens of quality NFL coaches, and only a handful of MVP level QB’s.

Bill Bellicheck didn’t win anything until he got a QB. Parcells never won anything once he didn’t have a QB.

    the big bone in 83

seriously you cant understand that……Ok let me spell it out for you like you are a 4th grader.

Or are you so feeble minded that you blame Callahan for our demise?

well get your dates right gruden left after 2000-2001 season i was there that whole season not 2003 pin head

  410. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Uh Parcells won a Super Bowl with a backup QB dude I am sure you know this…because……

Remember one of the toughest Raiders ever jeff Hostetler!! The guy took so many hits!!

  411. Just Fire Baby Says:

So if getting close to winning a Super Bowl doesn’t mean anything, than Gruden didn’t do a damn thing here.

    Morons

  412. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Fire, do you honestly think Gannon comes here to play for Bugel?

  413. RaiderRockstar Says:

Bill Bellicheck didn’t win anything until he got a QB. Parcells never won anything once he didn’t have a QB.

    ***

true. I’m sure we can all agree that SD has dominated us the past 3 seasons more due to the play of Philip Rivers than the coaching of Norv Turner …

what would Caldwell do without Manning? or Childress without Favre? or Payton without Brees?

  414. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Yeh, keep trying to explain your “closer than close” theory when it comes to Super Bowls, Just Fire. LOL. Bottom line is, Gruden won one, Callahan didn’t. And Al Davis hasn’t won one in ages. Gruden’s accomplished more than Al Davis in this modern era.

  415. Just Fire Baby Says:

You can add Gruden to this team tomorrow and we might be a game or two better. Add the 2002 version of Rich Gannon? Super bowl contenders.

  416. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Callahan coached us for 2002 and the 2003 season Gruden was 1998-2001

Its a fact you can argue about it all you want but those numbers do not lie.

so try again to tell me The Big one 83 who was our coach in 2001?

  417. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Fire, do you honestly think Gannon comes here to play for Bugel?

    **************************************

We might have had to sweeten the deal with an extra million or three but absolutely.

Who the fck was Jon Gruden when Gannon signed here? He went were the most money was and where he had the best chance to start.

You telling me Rich Gannon looked at Al Davis and this organization and started envisioning MVP’s and Super Bowl berths?? LMAO!!!

  420. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Here’s gruden’s trophy:

    http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/81396073.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF8789215ABF3343C02EA548F01AC3E0125A5BCE88BD63521131172EA9A91DEC306D814A

  421. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Callahan put the team on cruise control and got to the Super Bowl with a team chuck full of talent and a creative playbook/gameplan…..designed by (you guessed it) Gruden.

  422. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

If Gruden is so great why did he get FIRED?

When Gruden got to Tampa they were loaded with talent.

When Gruden left they were in shambles.

They are still trying to recover.

Chuckie last game was a loss to JaMarcus Russell.

Remember MR, I believe you predicted Tampa would humiliate the Raiders for what they did to kid Kiffin.

    WRONG AGAIN!

MR who do you like tonight?

  423. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

You are absolutely crazy if you think Gannon just came to the Raiders for the money. He came here because of Gruden and his system, which fit his style of play. Sure, he might have come here for the money if Bugel were here, and he would have gotten hurt in his first game.

  424. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Oh, Gruden’s not great because he got fired? If Al Davis weren’t an owner, he would have been fired in 1989.

  425. RaiderRockstar Says:

MR: when do you think Ron Wolf will be enshrined in Canton?

  426. the_big_one_of_83 Says:

true. I’m sure we can all agree that SD has dominated us the past 3 seasons more due to the play of Philip Rivers than the coaching of Norv Turner …

what would Caldwell do without Manning? or Childress without Favre? or Payton without Brees?

dont forget LT he scored 4 td in one game at the colisium

  427. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Al Davis would be out of football 20 years now if he didn’t own a team. So don’t talk about getting fired. Gruden doesn’t have the luxury of owning a team.

  428. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

Bottom line is Callahan cant get a coaching job at a community college now and if Gruden wanted to coach somewhere in the NFL he could and he could even take a few coaches jobs if he wanted to.

  429. RaiderRockstar Says:

MR: when do you think Lane Kiffin will be enshrined in Canton?

  430. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Ron Wolf’s not in Canton because he’s never contested the credit Davis gets for that team. Who knows why. Could just be modest. Could be afraid Davis will try to sue him, since nothing is on paper and therefore can’t really prove he built the teams, and thus Davis could hit him for slander. Who knows. It’s just obvious to anyone who knows anything about football that Ron Wolf built the great Raider teams. Davis is in Canton because he’s a better liar and has better lawyers.

  431. RaiderRockstar Says:

Bottom line is Callahan cant get a coaching job at a community college now

    ***

silver: Bill Callahan is O-Line Coach for the Jets and they have the best OL in the league …

  432. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I never said Kiffin was great. Just said we need someone like him. Greatness is something he’d have to earn. But the right coach for us he is. We need someone like him to just coach the team and shun Al’s meddling. Clean house. We’d be a playoff team by now if Kiffin had stayed. That’s not Canton worthy, but I’ll take it.

  433. Just Fire Baby Says:

MR predicted we would lose to the Bucs, and than come up with this pea-brained scheme that we ran the ball more that game because Al Davis wasn’t there, so it was all Cable felling froggy and running the ball more than he would have had Al been present.

It really was a Semi-Pro instant classic.

  434. RaiderRockstar Says:

MR: when do you think Jon Gruden will be enshrined in Canton??

  435. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Just like Just Fire, to brag about a meaningless win against the Bucs in a lost season.

    Here’s a meaningful Raiders/Bucs game, Just Fire:

    http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/81396073.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF8789215ABF3343C02EA548F01AC3E0125A5BCE88BD63521131172EA9A91DEC306D814A

  436. the_big_one_of_83 Says:

    what time does OTA’s start

  437. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

If Gruden gets on somewhere like Dallas, Rockstar? I think Gruden will be in Canton.

  438. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

RR so you see that as a sign of success when a once head coach is demoted to OL coach?

What I meant to say was he couldn’t get a head coaching job at a community college.

  439. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

And of course Gruden would be there for his accomplishments, not because he has money and lawyers and threatens to sue everyone, which is the only reason Davis is in. Davis sued his way into Canton, sued his way into notoriety, basically sued his way into relevancy. Gruden knows something about the game of football.

  440. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

    It wasn’t meaningless to Tampa.

    It cost Gruden his job.

  441. Just Fire Baby Says:

I wasn’t bringing about anything but being witness to your epic meltdown that fine day.

  442. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Just Sue, Baby!

Far as Just Win goes….Kell, what’s Al’s record recently? lol.

  443. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

Gruden knows how to run a football team into the ground.

  444. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

    MR RR Fire

Any coach that wins 2 Super Bowls (Except our own Tom Flores) is automatically enshrined in Canton.

Which is one solid reason why Al Davis hates the Media!

  445. RaiderRockstar Says:

I can’t picture a guy like Tony Romo lifting up the Lombardi trophy …

the guy has been working on his golf game all offseason, trying to qualify for the US Open when he should be trying to figure out how NOT to choke in the playoffs

  446. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

That game didn’t cost Gruden his job. He didn’t want to coach there anymore. Glaziers started going Al DAvis on him, wouldn’t let him make Tampa an offense team and wanted to keep the defense stellar. Gruden will be in Dallas in ‘11 and watch. They will be good, every year. He’ll probably be there for a decade, will win a SB.

  447. Just Fire Baby Says:

Even though it was been 26 years, I still think Al has won a Super Bowl more recently than half this league.

  448. RaiderRockstar Says:

What I meant to say was he couldn’t get a head coaching job at a community college.

  454. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

You guys remember Jeff Hostetler man I liked how tough he was.

Can we all agree on that?

  455. RaiderRockstar Says:

yes. I’ll take Jason Campbell over Tony Romo in crunch time

JC a Super Bowl contender in Oakland?

it’s a bit premature for that, don’t you think ???

I mean we haven’t even seen the guy in a Raider uniform yet. I want to see what he looks like in a Hue Jackson offense. and I want to see how much the lines have improved (if any) this offseason

I’m not even predicting 8-8 at this point

  456. 3 Mile Lyle Says:

The reason Gruden is out of coaching is because he isn’t a good coach.

Nobody wanted him after the collapse in Tampa.

The book on Gruden is his schtick wears thin.

  457. Silver-n-Black-666 Says:

    3 mile lyle

Gruden could have a job in the NFL if he wanted to, he is (Like Cower) waiting for the job he wants!

I can list 5 teams that would fire their current coach to hire Gruden coach if you like?

  458. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Rocktard’s on record:

    Campbell better than Romo.

  465. buckeyeraider Says:

    ‘Sup fellas?
Gruden is a damn good coach. But he is a meteor. He burns out quickly. He is not built for long term tenure. He wants a veteran team. He can’t handle youthful mistakes. That’s why he’s left not one but two NFL franchises in shambles.

It’s also why I don’t see Jon going into college coaching. I can’t see him on the recruting trail, schmoozing some 18 year old’s parents. Hell he doesn’t want to teach rookies and young pros, so I can’t see him working with college kids. IMO.

But he is an excellent football man. Excellent motivator and also devises great gameplans and executes them. Not many can do both well. Gruden can.

  466. A.B. Paine II Says:

Everybody raves about Cowher. Dick Lebeau has coached that D for over 20 years. Bill let Wisenhunt and Malarkey or whoever run the O. Cowher just spit and cussed and motivated that team to win.

Gruden could do both, with the best of them. Which makes him a rarity. I loved the Chucky era in Oakland.

As we hear it, Tate entered the store with another person and feasted on donuts. We’re told that the folks at Top Pot opted not to press charges, which helped Tate avoid arrest.

Meanwhile, Tate boasted in April that he’d never get in any trouble.

“Being at Notre Dame, you’re used to being under the microscope, so I’m used to having all eyes on me,” Tate told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. “Anything I do, anywhere I go. My mother and my father taught me what’s right and what’s wrong, so I don’t think I have a problem making any tough decisions.”

Apparently, he didn’t have to make any “tough decisions” between glazed and cream-filled. He simply ate both.

We are much deeper at the QB position than last year with Grads and the frye cook as backups. not to mention a much netter player as a starter. Campbell is a legitimate starter in this league. Something we didn’t have last year a “legitimate starter” at most important position. I’ve always said in order to win you need quality starters at every position and he gives us that. Now the Oline and WR’s we have two legitimate starters at WR but one guy is injury prone. We must get a quality starter at both OT spots and C.

Game 2, will probably play the 1st qtr.

We aren’t going to be running anything but vanilla stuff in those games anyway. Practice is where it’s going to count, not preseason games.

If they didn’t want Grads they wouldn’t have tendered him.

They could have at least not tendered him, let him feel out the market for awhile and than brought him back if they felt like it.

Instead they rushed to give him more money than anyone else probably was. Sounds like he is in the plans a little more than some in here think.

He was our best QB last year in preseason and regular season, and if he is again this preseason, he may not still start week 1, but you know Cable will bring him as soon as it is needed.

I say around week 3, in the AZ game I will attend, Bruce will come in the second half and save the season.

    Not a valid comparison, IMO.

Florida did not run a pro offense. Denver is not going to be able to sit him back in the shotgun and let him run a spread offense. Playing under C, dropping back, etc, etc is a whole diff ball game.

The fact that he has been undisputedly TERRIBLE at it so far means he CAN’T do it. The “he is a winner” theory or the “we wants it” so bad theory doesn’t work for me. He doesn’t “want it” any more than the other guys out there trying to get a job.

    =================

Pretty sure they only think of Oakland as a punch line. Can’t wait to unleash he-ll on them this year.

I think theres a lot of pressure on Josh McDaniles to figure a way to get T blow on the field asap what with the record setting jersey sales for Gawd boy.

Most likely gimmick crap plays like he ran in college and such. Takes away valuable time from legit players this year.

I hope Tebow gets mangled right out the gate and sits on IR the rest of the year.

Despite what Plunkett head thinks religion IS devisive in a locker room or any other work enviroment and frankly annoying.

Tebow was over drafted because of his super christian fella persona. I know he’s highly regarded in college ball but that doesn’t always translate to the pros.

Have they been wrong before? Of course, and I hope Tebow sucks as a Donkey. But the theory that he can’t play, should have been a FB or wasn’t going to get drafted until the 4th round was all a complete fabrication by the media.

  653. fat kidd Says:

The Oakland Raiders Are Bringing Back Their Mean Streak
once upon a time, the Raiders had one of the most feared defenses in the NFL.
In the days when George Atkinson and Jack Tatum roamed the defensive backfield, the Steelers dubbed the Raiders a “criminal element” because of the “malicious intent” of many of their hits.
The Raiders even embraced their “criminal element.” As Tatum once said, “I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.”
these guys were head-hunters who struck fear into offenses, especially any receiver dumb enough to venture over the middle. They gave a damn about any fines the league may institute.
As it stands now the Raiders have lacked hard-hitters for years. The last real hard-hitters they had were Greg Biekert, Rod Woodson, and Bill Romanowski.
But that is about to change. The Raiders are bringing back the hard-hitters, head-hunters, and their mean-streak.
It started last year when the Raiders drafted Michael Mitchell.
    And this year it continued.
They brought in a solid tackler and field general in Rolando McClain.
Then they brought in Jeremy Ware, at 5′10” 190 pounds, he is not only known for his athleticism, including a 4.37 40-yard dash, but his ability to help in run support. He is also known for his hard-hits like this one. Sure the legality of the hit was questionable and resulted in a flag, but it was brutal and left the opponent unconscious. You might even go as far as to say that hit bordered on “felonious assault.”
Then they added Kellen Heard as an unrestricted free agent. By some accounts, Heard would have been drafted if it weren’t for his alleged cheap shot on Colt McCoy which resulted in him being blacklisted.
During his final year at Memphis, he played on both sides of the ball at OT and DT. At 6′5” 355 pounds, he has an ideal frame to be a run stuffing DT.
He is known for his mean-streak, namely the play where he injured McCoy with a “cheap shot.”
On the play in question McCoy threw an INT, McCoy then began unbuckling his helmet and walking off the field. Then, out of nowhere, Heard blows up McCoy knocking him out of the game. Sure it may have been a “cheap shot,” but the play was still live as defenders were returning McCoys’ INT at the time of the hit.
With these defenders being added to the defense, opposing offenses will need to keep their heads on a swivel and finally respect the Raiders’ defense. Maybe the Raiders’ defense will even regain its reputation for having “malicious intent” and hits bordering on “felonious assault”.
No, your eyes are not fooling you, Kellen Heard is a very talented player who played on both sides of the ball for Memphis last year. He was a project on the O-Line and a very talented DT that plays with a mean streak. (SOB will love this guy)
At 6-6, 355, he is quite a load on either side of the ball who is best known for being a tough defender who hit Colt McCoy late in 2006.
You think he taught Colt to never take his eyes off the filed of his helmet off before he’s in the clear?
Once again, the Oakland Raiders have added a multi-talented player that fits two needs. I am very curious how this will play out.
    The Raiders’ Ferocious Front Four
If football games are won in the trenches, it only seems appropriate to take a closer look at the Raiders’ defensive line.
The Raiders released Gerard Warren this winter and drafted Lamarr Houston from the University of Texas to solidify the defensive line.
Warren was inconsistent, showing flashes the past couple seasons. The former first-round selection has never played to his talent level. The Raiders were the third team to give up on him. Of course, he was also due a sizable salary in 2010 and that money can be put to better use.
The Raiders have surprising decided to put Houston at defensive end, instead of his college position of defensive tackle. What on the surface seems like an odd move is actually a very logical one.
Houston’s talents would be wasted playing the one-technique tackle position and the three-technique tackle position is still being occupied by Tommy Kelly.
Kelly has been much criticized due to the large contract he received in 2007. While Kelly may never live up to the money he was paid, he hasn’t been a horrible player.
In 2009, Kelly totaled 14 quarterback pressures and five quarterback hits, with one sack. He was routinely good in pass rush. Obviously his weakness is still defending the run, but the Raiders have never asked the three-technique tackle to support the run on a regular basis.
The job of supporting the run has been placed in the lap of the other defensive tackle. The Raiders hope Desmond Bryant, the second year player out of Harvard, is ready succeed where Warren failed.
Tom Cable has routinely talked about Bryant as a player the Raiders are excited about. One quarterback pressure and one forced fumble in 2009 is enough to get excited about? It is, because Bryant is the primary run defender on the defensive line. He will need to improve upon his solid rookie campaign and keep bodies off of rookie middle linebacker Rolando McClain.
What about the ends? How do the Raiders plan to use Houston, Seymour and Matt Shaughnessy?
Seymour is unique; he is able to play tackle in obvious passing situations and end. This will allow the Raiders to keep Kelly, Houston and Shaughnessy on the field. There is no need to worry about Richard Seymour, unless he holds out of training camp.
This pass rush centric grouping should be able to bring a solid pass rush from just the front four, but would expose the Raiders up the middle to the run. The Raiders drafted McClain to solve this obvious problem. Don’t expect McClain to come off the field in anything but third and very long situations.
In down and short situations, Houston, Seymour, Kelly and Bryant would be the run stopping group. It isn’t that Shaughnessy is bad at defending the run, but Houston should be more effective clogging gaps.
the Raiders have bet heavily that McClain is going to be able to deter teams from running up the gut, forcing ball carriers outside where the line can be more effective.
The Raiders will not have a ton of speed along the defensive line, but all the players are quick, agile and strong with a good first step.
The logical conclusion, however hard to believe, is that the Raiders will blitz outside linebackers more frequently in 2010 when extra pressure is needed.
Kamerion Wimbley has never played the SAM linebacker position. He has played as a rush end and rush linebacker. He knows how to rush the passer. The Raiders would be unwise to waste his best attribute.
Trevor Scott’s best attribute as a WILL linebacker is also pass rushing. Thomas Howard would be the primary coverage linebacker.
Quentin Groves is also seen as a pass rushing type linebacker. All signs point to the Raiders bringing a fifth or sixth guy to put pressure on the quarterback.
The Raiders have logically built the defensive line to be both improved against the run and pass.
If the Raiders defensive line can improve along with the linebackers, the Raiders have the potential to be one of the better defensive teams in the league.

Haha. Well, I don’t wear panties, so no worries there.

He’s a polarizing figure, I think we can all agree on that, but the fact is he’s a Denver Bronco now and that means I hate his guts. I always thought LaDainian was a world-class wuss, and Todd Haley in my mind is as much a Godsend (figure of speech, lol) to the Raiders as Norval Turner and Josh McDiapers.

I’m optimistic (and I know MaddenRaider probably thinks I’m a fool now) because our division rivals have made some pretty bad decisions lately, and I think that in addition to us getting better Denver and San Diego are regressing. KC doesn’t even count yet, in my opinion, but I still hate ‘em from 40 years ago.

    Cows & Politics Explained

A CHRISTIAN DEMOCRAT: You have two cows. You keep one and give one to your neighbor.

A SOCIALIST: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor.

AN AMERICAN REPUBLICAN: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. So what?

AN AMERICAN DEMOCRAT: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. You vote people into office who tax your cows, forcing you to sell one to raise money to pay the tax. The people you voted for then take the tax money and buy a cow and give it to your neighbor. You feel righteous.

A COMMUNIST: You have two cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk.

A FASCIST: You have two cows. The government seizes both and sells you the milk. You join the underground and start a campaign of sabotage.

DEMOCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. The government taxes you to the point you have to sell both to support a man in a foreign country who has only one cow, which was a gift from your government.

CAPITALISM, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. You sell one, buy a bull, and build a herd of cows.

BUREAUCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. The government takes them both, shoots one, milks the other, pays you for the milk, then pours the milk down the drain.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows. You are surprised when the cow drops dead.

A FRENCH CORPORATION: You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION: You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk. You then create clever cow cartoon images called Cowkimon and market them World-Wide.

A GERMAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You reengineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and milk themselves.

A BRITISH CORPORATION: You have two cows. They are mad. They die. Pass the shepherd’s pie, please.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are. You break for lunch.

A RUSSIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 12 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka.

A SWISS CORPORATION: You have 5000 cows, none of which belong to you. You charge others for storing them.

A BRAZILIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You enter into a partnership with an American corporation. Soon you have 1000 cows and the American corporation declares bankruptcy.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You worship both of them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION: You have two cows. You have 300 people milking them. You claim full employment, high bovine productivity, and arrest the newsman who reported on them.

AN ISRAELI CORPORATION: There are these two Jewish cows, right? They open a milk factory, an ice cream store, and then sell the movie rights. They send their calves to Harvard to become doctors. So, who needs people?

AN ARKANSAS CORPORATION: You have two cows. That one on the left is kinda cute.

I hope the officials let these two teams play tonight. Game 2 was marred by a constant parade to the free throw line. I’m not blaming the refs for the lakers loss. They went to the line soooo many times. But Kobe was forced to sit during a lot of the 4th because of some really ticky tack calls. Let ‘em play.

    RMR,
It’s going to kill me, but this is the 2nd time I’m going to agree with you today. About right wing propoganda, that is. They have Fox News on in the breakroom where I work. All day long, that is one of the lead stories. Obama’s falling poll numbers. Morning break, Lunch, afternoon break. Blah, Blah Blah. Obama’s approval rating hits a new low @ 45%.

Funny, but I don’t remember that being the lead every hour when W.’s ratings were at a Nixon-like 24%. Hell no. Then it was all images of soaring eagles and tanks rumbling through the desert.
    Fair and balanced my ass.

What a play by Kobe. Great hustle.

Van Gundy’s comments about Kobe a few minutes ago, about a teams best player and true leader not being the most liked by his teammates. Because they bristle and push their temmates, made me think of Rich Gannon. Him hiding the billiard balls when he first arrived in Oakland.

Buckeye, I think it has to do with the fact that a Judge has ruled that a college has to release the transcrips of a person who happens to be the president of this country, applying as a resident of Jakara, Indo. in 1981, and applied for no resident relief. Upon getting here, with no money in his pockets, within one month, had paid round the world tickets back to Indo. There is a lot that is about to come out on all networks, let them explain why they have let this do on so long! 1.6 TRILLION DOLLARS LATER! Yep in one year!

  794. 860Todd Christensen Says:

Like the president, Al thinks we are all tools………
