Can Kiffin coach? Now we’ll know
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 7:07 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Nobody was quite sure when Lane Kiffin received the overhead projector treatment courtesy of Al Davis if he could coach or not.
It was no more clear when he surfaced at Tennessee, where things remained muddled with a 7-6 record after a single season before leaving for what he called his “dream job” at USC.
After winning 12 of 33 games as a head coach in the NFL and the Southeastern Conference, Kiffin has a chance to go well beyond his words and prove himself.
If he keeps USC afloat with the loss of 30 scholarships over the next three years and survives the two years of bowl exile to return the Trojans to their rightful place atop the whatever-they’re-going-to-call-it conference, there will be no more doubting young Lance.
(To review, because I’ve received this question a time or three, Davis called him `Lance’ at his introductory press conference, and to Davis-watchers and Raider-watchers everywhere, he’ll never be known as anything else)
Former USC coach Pete Carroll, Kiffin’s coaching mentor other than his father, said he is shocked by the sanctions imposed by the NCAA. Kiffin did his best Sgt. Schulz routine before the media, saying he saw nothing and knew nothing regarding any improprieties.
Never mind that Kiffin started coaching at USC in 2001, became recruiting coordinator in 2004, and that the recruiting coordinator knows everything that has gone on in their program well before they take over the role.
And disregard the fact that Kiffin had issues with the NCAA during his short-lived stay in Tennessee.
Who knows, he may be longing for the days where the worst that could happen was losing a couple of OTAs for working the guys too hard.
They’re probably wondering at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway and in Knoxville if Kiffin will be once again on the move, leaving wreckage in his wake.
What if the Trojans can Mike Garrett and bring in an A.D. who thinks all vestiges of the Carroll era _ of which Kiffin was a major player _ should be erased?
Early indications are the Trojans will appeal and stand their ground, with Kiffin shrugging his shoulders and separating himself as much as possible from a fate he likely helped create.
That may not be enough to satisfy Davis or the Knoxville hordes, but at least we’ll find out if Kiffin can coach.

Wow. Kawakami is now writing articles praising DHB? The kid must look phenomenal for that guy to throw the Raiders a bone. Can’t wait to see him in game action. Would be awesome if he tears it up this year. It’d bring some much-needed firepower to the offense, DHB seems like a cool guy, and it would silence some of the media jackazzes who’ve giggled like schoolgirls while trashing the Raiders the last few seasons.

June 10th, 2010 at 7:49 pm
Chris,
At the very least, DHB is catching the ball in non-contact. If he can’t catch the ball in non-contact, then we have some serious issues.

June 10th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
Aig,
That was a problem for him last year though, so it shows progress.
The other thing that stands out is that aside from just catching the ball, Jerry Mac has noted that virtually every catch is clean. Last year and even in college it seemed like when he actually did catch the ball he was juggling it so much that it negated his speed and ability to rack up yards after the catch. I’d rather see him catch 7/10 smoothly and in stride than catch 9/10 where he’s fighting it and stopping his stride to secure the ball.

Cable sounds open to running back committee
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 10, 2010 8:39 PM ET
When the offseason started, Raiders coach Tom Cable wanted an every down running back to emerge.
Now he appears to be reconsidering the plan to ditch the two-back approach with Michael Bush and Darren McFadden.
“Each one of them has their own strength but they both show up every time we come out here. I actually think their both (No. 1s) and I think it’s a great deal we got going here,” Cable said.
Cable expressed hope that McFadden would become that true No. 1 in March, but that has yet to happen.
“I think it’s a mentality thing. I think that we do talk about it,” Cable said, in reference to McFadden’s struggles running between the numbers. “I think we’re doing some things [during practice drills] that actually help him a little bit in terms of ball security and having to get down near the ground and keep your balance, those kind of things. But I think he hears it and he’ll do something about it. I believe that.”
Coachspeak translation: We’d love for McFadden to be the guy, but we’re trying to cut down on high draft pick scholarships around here.

The question as to whether or not Kiffin can coach is yet to be answered. However, the question as to whether or not Al Davis can run an NFL team anymore has been answered, clearly, time and time again over the course of the past decade: NO!
June 10th, 2010 at 8:08 pm
Chris,
It was obvious the guy was pressing last year. His problems started on draft day. Being the controversial “reach” pick. The classless behavior by the BSPN clowns Dilfer and Carter. The guy was always trying to justify his draft status.
Then when he struggled, it just snowballed. He lost all confidence. Kinda like a batter in a slump, where the baseball looks like a marble comin in at 90 mph.
Somebody, I believe 30 yr Raider mentioned it. I was looking for Bruce Campbell highlights, and there was one featuring DHB from the previous year. Showed a nice TD rec from Maryland. Split the defenders, elevated and caught the ball at it’s highest point. Nice catch. Looked fluid and natural. I thought man, that doesn’t look anything like the rookie who seemed to fight every catch in Oakland. Even his TD vs Dallas, he double clutched.
If this guy can get it going, that would be huge.

loves Jon Gruden (Chuckie), Lane Kiffin (Wonderboy), Jeff Garcia (looks great in tight pants)…smells like an 49er fan to me.
June 10th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
What team did Kiffin kill? Surely not the Raiders. They sucked long before he got here and long after he left.
June 10th, 2010 at 8:23 pm
Oh, is it 49er fan today?
Yesterday it’s Bronco fan.
The day before that it’s Charger fan.

And now, of course, it’s the Niners.

I’m no expert on this kind of thing, but I’m gonna take a wild guess that very few ads on Match.com, e-Harmony or the like include the line, “LOOKING FOR 2-X ACCUSED RAPIST”.

Northern the last 4 or 5 games DHB didnt play. I think they shut him down when he was able to play, just my opinion not a fact. It got him focused and ready for 2010, lets hope. DHB’s off season probably begun in November 2009.

Don’t forget about the appeal process. NCAA already got its message across, for PR purposes, making them look tough on violations, etc. We’re talking USC, big money lost. I see them giving USC their bowl eligibility back, and some of the scholarships, through the appeal process.
=====================================
Under most circumstances I would agree with that. However, I think Kiffin was too involved in the recruiting process to let it slide. The NCAA also went after him for a violation at Tennessee.
A different coach and they might just let it slide, but I think they’ll stick it to Kiffin.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Northern D, the NCAA loves money more than you hate Kiffin.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:22 pm
MistaBrown,
I agree. I think they shut him down last year and hoped for a fresh start this year. They sat him out down the stretch to keep him from losing all his confidence.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:22 pm
RDT, agreed. Boston should have slaughtered them tonight. They had to fight too hard just to tie it up, when the Lakers still have home court advantage. I see the Lakers winning the next 2.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
To be honest, I laugh at every single one of these athlete’s that fall victim to themselves, because they are so undeserving of the honours bestowed upon them.
I pull for the class acts like Dave Winfield, Bernie Williams, and others who add some class to the world with their riches.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
The Real MaddenRaider,
I don’t hate Kiffin. Just disappointed in him.
USC is a big money maker, no doubt, and easily the biggest draw on the west coast.
Might be nice to see another Pac-10 team rise up on the National stage.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:26 pm
It starts when they’re in high school. We put star athletes on a pedestal, let them get away with murder. The only ones who seem to handle it right are ones with good parents. I picture Roethlisberger’s parents as the type of morons who always think their son is right and blame the other kid.
June 10th, 2010 at 9:27 pm

RMR,
Having USC sit out a couple of Bowls may create more interest in the Pac-10. Right now it’s just the Trojans and everyone else fighting for 2nd.
I know I’d like to see another west coast team make a legit bid for a National title.
I had a UCLA hat years ago. I wouldn’t mind going out a picking up a new one.

“I’m just going to focus on who’s here now — Jason’s here,” Heyward-Bey said. “He’s focused, he’s ready. And he really wants to do well out here. A quarterback like that, I’m happy that he’s on our team right now.”
“Everybody’s wanting to go out to eat, go over to San Fran, get some dinner, go to the movies or something,” Heyward-Bey said. “It’s more of a team this year.
“I don’t know if that’s because Jason came, but the teammates we have here all want to come together and be one.”
WOW. If this is true for all players, than the one thing that Al says is not important but yet every winning team has, has come to the Raiders. CHEMISTRY.
Let’s mix all these elements we have in our team and watch the fireworks light up the NFL!
as always, GO RAIDERS!!!

Would be awesome if he tears it up this year. It’d bring some much-needed firepower to the offense, DHB seems like a cool guy, and it would silence some of the media jackazzes who’ve giggled like schoolgirls while trashing the Raiders the last few seasons.

I’ve been of a mind since they took him he was a project and have had his back.
I backed Russell till the end. Diff case ehre though.
Russell, I just couldn’t belive someone would pzz away an opportunity like that.
Yuck…last I’ll say about that.
Go DHB!
Still waiting to see them in pads with contact though before I annoint him.

He didn’t have to hire Lance but Lance lied and conned his way into that job. The others under consideration would’ve been looked at closer. But that kid sold Big Al a bill of goods. Then Big Al had to try and make it work under less than favorable circumstances. And there were people in here cursing him for not turning the entire organization over to that overambitious idiot.
Now he has someone he can trust and you see the difference he much more trusting and amicable to a working relationship.

June 10th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
At the very least he has them back on the radar screen. If campbell is as legit as it seems he is they will be a factor in this division this year.
If we can run the ball with this speed we have outside, that 1960’s offense everyone keeps laughing about will be envogue. Most in here think that offense is something to laugh at but that offense won the SB last year.
It is a wideopen stretch the field offense that makes the defense spread out and defend every blade of grass. And you hit the seams with speed and explosion. Utilizing the HB’s and the TE’s in the passing game. It brings extreme pressure to bare on any defense. You must match up with athletes instead of schemes if you don’t have the athletes to match up you’ll get smoked.
June 10th, 2010 at 11:55 pm
lane kiffin will be replaced at usc by monica lewinsky no doubt she will blow a few.
June 11th, 2010 at 12:08 am
Mike Martz is installing that same offense in Chicago. With the speed they have if Cutler cuts down on the t/o’s they will look similar to the Saints.
Most teams don’t have the kind of speed I’m speaking of in fact very few teams do. But Hester, DHB and Moss are the kind of athletes I’m talking about. The 49ers don’t scare anyone with their speed they want to get a mismatch with their TE but that’s about it. The Raiders have it everywhere, they can attack you in short zones and over the top.
Most teams will put a man deep but he has to acct for the TE over the middle and with ZM he can’t lift thet top of the defense like that. He has to play it honest. All DHB needs is for the deep man to talk a false step and it’s over he can’t recover in time to stop a score. A 2deep zone is a joke against this offense if Campbell is on, and the playcalling is good you’ll destroy a cover2. Most cover2 defenses employ slower more physical corners and DHB is bigger than any corner in this league and much faster than most he will be a nightmare to defend if he continues to develope.
June 11th, 2010 at 12:12 am
But we are getting way ahead of ourselves we wont know if this is real for a couple of months. By the 3rd preseason game you’ll know if Campbell can make it happen. And if DHB can practice at this level in pads, it’s over……….forget about it!!
June 11th, 2010 at 12:16 am
Perfect! Kiffin gets screwed! Couldn’t happen to a bigger jackass.
And Carroll says “the university didn’t know anything about it” (nod, nod, wink, wink).

the koolaids overflowing huh? well let’s wait and see what camp looks like first. However this is when you biuld confidence and timing and a belief. If they can continue to biuld on this they can be damn good by midseason. With this defense and the ability to put up points is something we haven’t seen since the SB year ‘02. It’s almost scary to mention an offense in Oakland again. Wont that be something?
June 11th, 2010 at 12:31 am
Heisman trophy winner, MVP of Super Bowl XV, and two-time Raiders Super Bowl winning QB, Jim Plunkett, sat down with Greg Papa on Comcast Sports’ Chronicle Live recently to talk some Raiders football. Plunkett, who won 66 percent of the games he started from 1978-1986 in Silver and Black, opened up on the release of JaMarcus Russell, what he thinks Jason Campbell brings to the team and his assessment of the offseason.
Plunkett was asked if he was surprised by the release of QB JaMarcus Russell.
“Well, its three years, I don’t think they’ve seen much progress in the young kid,” Plunkett replied. “I like JaMarcus, I think he’s a good, fine young man, but I don’t think they saw the dedication and hard work that you need in today’s game.
“The NFL is not only what you do on the field, but what you do off the field as well; in preparation, film study, being with your teammates. You want to get the feeling that this guy is your leader, your guy, the guy you can put your faith in when it comes down to the last two minutes and they just didn’t see that in him; they didn’t see much progress and for them it was just time to move on.”
He’s right on the mark, JaMarcus showed only a fondness for studying the latest fashion faux-pas and the direction of the nearest Popeyes resteraunt on his vehicle’s navigation system.Being with his teammates was not high on Russell’s priorety list and dedication and hard work probably would’ve had to have been tattooed backwards on his forehead for him to think about it every once in a while.
Papa asked Plunkett if he thought Jason Campbell could be the guy to get the Raiders back to the playoffs.
“I think he’ll certainly be much improved in that position than JaMarcus was,” Plunkett said in a stuttering attempt at political correctness. “He’ll make the Raiders a better football team offensively, he doesn’t make as many mistakes, he had a high percentage, I think it was a little over 65 percent, this year in Washington.
“You know I don’t know him that well, I haven’t been to training camp much this offseason so I really don’t have a real good feel for him, but it’s certainly going to be an improvement. We’re going to be a better football team because of Jason Campbell.”
I couldn’t agree more with Plunkett. Just his completion percentage alone is outstanding compared to Russell’s. Campbell played only one more season than Russell, yet his 55 TD passes dwarf Russell’s 18. In addition, Campbell has thrown for well over 6,000 more yards than Russell did. His career rating mark is nearly 20 points higher and Campbell has started every single one of his last 32 games and had a string of 20 consecutive games startedprior to that. Even if Campbell doesn’t start for the Raiders he will certainly push Bruce Gradkowski for the job and keep Gradkowski working hard to keep his job.
Plunkett offered the following as a closing statement.
“I’m excited about the Raiders chances of being a better football team, getting in the playoff race in the AFC West, and just being better all around,” the former Raiders gunslinger shot. “I like their draft picks this year. I think they got a lot of help. They brought in a linebacker from Alabama who is a stud and he should be able to help us in that middle spot. And overall, I think we’ll be a better football team, coach is back for another year and I think that will add some continuity to this Raiders football team.”
June 11th, 2010 at 12:37 am
I think all being said Campbell needed the Raisers and the Raiders needed Campbell. It just might be the right player at the right time in the right place. Sometimes it just comes down to something as simple as TIMING………period

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry… not are you become laze and only tweats but now you are even become weak..
well he only distanced himself (according to you), not like Carroll who ran away hiding his head in the sand.. thats a coward.. why does any reporters with respect for himself dig in that.. its ALWAYS the big boss fault, why are americans so afraid of accountability ? its always the middle leaders you bite in the throat… Scooter Libby, Kiffin x2, Powell, Tenet, et cetera…
its what we in europe call the german routine, after WW2 most of those in jails were middle leaders, they paid the price for the one in charge…
at USC, Pete Carroll was in charge in any way, Bush was in charge, Rumsfeld, chaney, wolfowitz was in charge during both bush reigns and did horrible stuff each time, and each time its fools like Oliver North and Scooter libby who gets blame..
Of course if Carroll is to blame so will Kiffin be, but its should always be the head that takes the blame, thats a part of the job-description, thats why they get paid the most, its about chances and risks, and the Head should always be accountable..
If the Head doesnt know what his people do, when they do something illegal, well then the Head is to blame, he wasnt in control of his staff.. if he KNOWS what the do when they do something illegal he yet to blame..
Stand up America, start demanding accountability, it would suit you, and the american people actually deserve it..

Hoefully this kid is healthy … he hasn’t played much over the past 3 seasons so he’s a real longshot, practice squad might be good for him.
Jim Harbaugh on Stanford’s OT Allen Smith:
“Many of the scouts that were coming here were projecting him to be drafted in the 1st or 2nd round.”
From cnnsi.com:
“Biography: Broke into the starting lineup as a sophomore in 2005 when he played eight games with the first team at right tackle. Started 12 games the next season on the left side. Tore his patella tendon three games into the 2007 season, which ended his campaign.
Positives: One-time highly rated offensive lineman still trying to make his way back from injury. Athletic, strong at the point of attack, and gets movement run blocking. Engulfs defenders at the point of attack, removes them from the action and works hard to finish blocks. Sized well and uses his frame as an advantage.
Negatives: Haphazard in his movement, and lacks footwork sliding out to protect the edge. Bends at the waist, blocks with a narrow base, and lacks balance.
Analysis: Early in his Stanford career, Smith was highly considered by NFL scouts before he was set back with injury. Offers possibilities at guard if he is healthy and improves his overall blocking mechanics.”

RaiderRon, maybe this will give you some clarity…I guess if you don’t want a good running game, then just ignore the FB. For the Raiders to win they need to be able to run the ball effectively and that requires a good FB:
“Despite the proliferation of three-wide receiver and two-tight end offenses, nearly two-thirds of NFL teams (21 of 32) opened the 2009 season with a fullback in their lineups. The top 14 rushing teams in the league and 16 of the top 17 clubs in rushing offense had fullbacks on their rosters. Of the 15 players in the league who rushed for 1,000 yards or more in 2009, all but Mendenhall played at least part of the season with a conventional fullback as a lead blocker.
In 2008, all of the top 10 rushing teams had a fullback.”

I dont care who id1ot you vote for, but if you come with claims you better back it up, have some facts…
sistabrown have lied many times, jsut because he doesnt like europe, he spew unsubstantiated crap about tons of things he never ever will have a clue about…
what got me fuming this time, was his lies about spain, brazil and Denmark being bankrupt… and this coming from a man which gets all his knowledge from Glenn Beck…
as said who you vote for will never have influence, I dont understand why anybody could vote for a party that for generations have ruined the average joe’s possibility to rise to higher social layers..
and I will never get liars, and most often liars are reps, at least thats how my experience is… thats why I was very disappointed yesterday, mostly in myself for believing you and being fooled, but also for you lying about Nick Miller, I dont get why you did that…
most reps are christians, but they seem to forget about some of the commandments, “thou shall not lie”, but then again they cheat on their wives and such so a lie seem insignificant..
Liars are the lowest scum…
June 11th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Their pay and their draft status is irrelevant….they might not be high priority, but they are key to successful runs:
“It pays to have the extra blocker in there, especially a guy who knows what he’s doing,” said Jones, who signed with Kansas City this spring after being released by the Jets, with whom he ran for many of his 1,402 yards last season behind fullback Tony Richardson. “It gives you one more blocker to take the linebacker or end out of the way … and that’s how a lot of big runs get broken.”
It is no coincidence that after losing our blocking FB Oren Oneal, and replacing him with weak ass Lawton, our running game dipped considerably.

Their pay and draft status shows the priority that NFL teams put on the position. I never said that there shouldnt be a FB on the field, I simply said, in a nut shell, that FBs are a dime a dozen and the position is the LEAST of this teams concerns.

It’s interesting that Lance ends up in his ‘dream job’ just when it’s become a nightmare position. Interesting that after helping create the recruiting scandal, that he’s come back at a time when the NCAA is dolling out punishment for it. Poetic justice as was said earlier, karma, etc. And with his NCAA transgressions whilst at Tennessee, there’ll be extra sweet joy for them tightening the screws on Lance.

RMR…
It’s ok to be negative/critical of Al/Raiders when there’s negative stuff going on. But when things are ok, no scandals going on, the program actually humming along with a lot of optimism and good decisions made in coaching hires, player acquisitions and drafted players, all your detractors here do have a point. I mean, one doesn’t have to drink the kool-aid as such, but they don’t have to constantly whine about everything Al and the Raiders. As everyone knows, winning fixes everything. People suddenly finding Al cool again, Cable is a good coach, DHB is a star, etc etc, is what will happen should we start winning back-to-back-to-back games. Right now, in this part of the off-season/pre-season, things are looking positive, and it’s like a good time for RaiderNation to celebrate a good off-season and feel/share that palpable sense that there’s optimism in the air.
If things go pear-shaped, ok fine, THEN it’s the right timing to be negative and criticize daily. Imagine the Raiders are 5-0 and everything’s great, one wonders if anyone would be sitting here constantly whining about Al, the Raiders, etc, and WHY they would do that instead of enjoy and share the happy moments with the rest of RaiderNation.

Jhill,
You still need a LB who can cover, and TH is the Only LB on our roster capable of doing that. Scott, Wimbley, Groves, and Norris are tweeners (They played DE at college). R Brown can’t cover, and McClain Is a true MLB who may lack the speed to cover TEs, RBs, and WRs.
June 11th, 2010 at 9:27 am
Darrius Heyward-Bey is not only catching everything in sight at Raiders practices, but the receiver is giving pep talks now. Effective ones, apparently.
“Louis Murphy and I went to Chaz (Schilens) yesterday and told him that we need him on the field,” Heyward-Bey said. “We need all three of us if we want to be a good passing offense.”
The receivers – and quarterback Jason Campbell – looked good Wednesday, though it must be said that cornerbacks Nnamdi Asomugha and Chris Johnson were out with excused absences. Heyward-Bey dominated rookies Walter McFadden and Jeremy Ware and cheerleader/offensive coordinator Hue Jackson again was enthused.
“He just creates a competition every day. Every day he makes it a game,” Schilens said. “He says we’re trying to get them, trying to embarrass the defensive backs. I think we’re winning right now.”
SF Gate
June 11th, 2010 at 9:28 am
The Ravens LBs arent renowned for pass coverage. They blitz heavy, zone, and they still are effective overall as a defense in throttling offensive passing. I think the 2010 Raiders are going to attempt the same thing.

June 11th, 2010 at 9:32 am
Raider O: Keeping Thomas Howard means we’re cutting Ricky Brown, Sam Williams, Slade Norris & David Nixon
McClain, Scott, Wimbley, Groves, Howard, Goethel = LB Corps
that means Goethel and either Groves or Howard will have to play ST along with Ekejiuba & Condo to make up for Brown & Williams (who both excelled on the ST unit)

You are Crazy if you think Al will cut a 6′3 235-240 LB who runs a sub 4.4 40, and had 5/6 INTs in 1 season. Cable said the starters are Scott, McClain, and Wimbley, but that doesn’t indicate that TH will not play. He is the best Cover LB we have, he has good hands, and has great speed.
Why cut him with no salary cap to keep Euk, Williams, Brown, Norris, or Nixon?!

One of 2 Nickle LBs?
I suggest to you that we will see Mitchell on the field in a 2 S set before we see TH.
Brown is the backup MLB, a position Howard can’t play.
Euk, Williams, Brown and those other guys WILL play STs. AND they make a helluva lot less.
I’m not saying TH gets cut. But I am saying that at best, he get about as much playing time as a typical backup NFL LB.

I think scheme predicted where these guys were and thier assignments.
Al Davis loves front 4 pressure only, man to man and prevent defense, right?
which made Morrison & Howard solid against the pass (can use thier speed and athleticism) and susceptible to the run (playing back, no help up front)
we saw what the Marshall Plan can bring. we got glimpses of it last year. Seems like Davis & Cable are backing off and letting the coaches coach.
I expect better results
what makes me wonder why on earth ROMAC was covering a WR? Even if it’s a guy like Todd Watkins, thats a mismatch. I hope this was an instance where Jackson/Campbell spread’em out with 4 or 5 wide and had a quick release, not something we’ll see in 2 or 3 WR sets (that spells disaster)
June 11th, 2010 at 9:48 am
Howard will probably be utilized in nickel packages. Either 3-4 (blitzing cb) or 4-3 to mop up a zone whilst a safety or Lb blitz or fake blitz.
Goethel might have a good shot at a 3-4 ILB job. Condo LS. Ekujuiba, Norris, Nixon more special teamers. We’ll carry about 8+ LBs especially if we’re gonna utilize the 3-4 in any 40:60 or 50:50 ratio.

bwahahahaha
what happens if we’re stuck with the Al Davis defense of old and ROMAC is forced into coverage all the time and the DT’s are garbage as expected ???
McClain could be benched for Ricky Brown or Travis Goethel if that happens!
June 11th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Funny how most people, especially the Jamarcus “supporters”, said all that rah-rah stuff doesn’t matter, that talent prevails and your teammates don’t have to like you.
——————————————————-
Stop trying to drum up stuff.
Bottom line is Gradkowski’s rah rah stuff got him NOTHING! He SUCKS! Him and his fire.

Ricky is a back-up at best. Goethel isn’t guaranteed a spot on the roster.

isn’t that the consensus among Desmond Bryant = stout NT thinkers?
——————————————————-
Your HC is in love with Bryant. Moreso than Tyvon Branch and ROMAC!
June 11th, 2010 at 10:34 am
I see Jhill all of a sudden has NO idea what trolling is even after accusing people of “swinging purses”.
I’m not certain how someone like Jhill can post in here 18 hours a day 7 days a week and assert he doesn’t know what trolling is so I can only assume he has a purse of his own.

That’s what I do, unless you would rather talk about who is trolling who.
You know, not every one of my comments about the Raiders QB is about Bruce. The quotes I read from DHB about Campbell were the best things I could have heard.
Stuff like that, is what is going to warm me to JC, until we get to see him actually play.

Our HC was in love with Warren & Eugene last year
that doesn’t offer much hope Jhill. quit being such a buzzkill
I likes my Kool-Aid today. Raider’s offense = 24 points a game
June 11th, 2010 at 10:36 am
Anyone who believes Desmond Bryant will make a difference against the run this year is bat schyt crazy….we should have acquired a true NT.
June 11th, 2010 at 10:36 am
what more could we have asked for as fans (other than a NT) we got mostly what we wanted no more J russel, no stupid acquisition of some unwanted overpaid veteran.
heyward bay looks as good as he possibly can, hopefully schilins will be healthy and can last a full year, an offensive coordinator to call plays and has an intense in your-face mentality
a new qb who has alot of upside if things work out, and a potentially stout D fence with some new faces to stop the run (i like houston) it has been a great off-season
so i will give Al Davis some props even though i fully support him selling the team or giving all responsibility to a GM
so Big AL i’ll smoke this one for you don’t let us down!

Serioulsy, how many teams out there have elite LB’s, stout DE’s and a rotation of active 330 pounders in the middle?
Not too many, and they certainly didn’t build it in an offseason or two.
Patience people. If we can get to the middle of the pack against the run without much at DT and a rookie MLB, imagine where we will be in a few years as we add to the defense.

Raiders signed DT John Henderson to a one-year contract.
In a bit of shocking news, the Raiders have actually made a solid personnel move. Henderson’s pass rushing skills are declining but he can still stuff the run at age 31. He’s been a 4-3 lineman for his entire career and will be an immediate upgrade over Tommy Kelly and Desmond Bryant.

I am starting to really like the D-line vesatilty, coupled with outside pass rushing LB’s. They are going to destroy our O-line when they put pads on in Napa. I’m still a little worried about coverage abilities of some of our LB’s. But, if you have pressure on the QB and sure tackling on screens, we should be ok. Trevor Scott’s cover skills are going to be the wildcard, he looks to have pretty good instincts of the position. Also, should we be concerned with the league or media response when Cable slaps the hell out of Henderson before the Tenn game.
