Outta here

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at 11:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Checking out for a couple of weeks of company-mandated vacation as of midnight.

(Don’t you just hate it when they tell you to get paid for doing nothing? I’d tell you to hold the jokes, but I know better).

Good timing, in that’s the ultimate dead time as far as the NFL goes, with most teams not getting serious about signing draft picks until the Fourth of July and with the Raiders having pretty much shut down activity with the outside world until training camp approaches.

Sorry if I offended anyone with the JaMarcus Russell post at the Andre Ward fight . . . except that, oh, I’m not sorry at all.

The guy showed up in Oakland, where Al Davis is on record as wanting $9.55 million from Russell, and I’m not supposed to mention it?

The most significant draft pick in Raiders history, in terms of where he was picked and dollars paid out, and it should be kept silent?

If that’s what you think, keep in touch with Raiders.com.

Hope all you dads out there had a great Father’s Day. Lost may dad two years ago and still haven’t adjusted to not having him around. Condolences to on-line guru Jon Becker, whose father passed away this week and who I’m sure was keeping in close proximity to his two young children.

It’s the best way to carry on, or at least it was for me.

Assume this space will be updated periodically in my absence.

I’ll be back in July.

Miami Heat to woo Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh

  • RaiderRockstar

CLEVELAND (AP) The Cavaliers could be getting close to a major signing.

    No, not that one.

The team’s 5-week-old coaching search took another turn on Tuesday as Los Angeles Lakers assistant Brian Shaw met in Cleveland with owner Dan Gilbert and front-office members about the Cavaliers’ coaching vacancy.

The visit comes just a few days before free agency opens with the Cavs hoping they can convince superstar LeBron James to re-sign and come back for an eighth season – and more. Cleveland would like to have a coach in place by July 1 to settle what has so far been a tumultuous offseason.

It is not yet known if the club has offered its coaching position to Shaw, who is also expected to be in town on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Shaw has spent five seasons on Phil Jackson’s staff in Los Angeles. A 14-year NBA veteran, he has no head coaching experience but is considered a strong candidate to replace Jackson if the 11-time champion retires. Jackson, who has health concerns, is expected to announce his plans later this week.

Former New Orleans coach Byron Scott is still believed to be the Cavs’ preferred choice to replace Brown. Scott, though, is presumed to be an option for the Lakers if Jackson steps down and may want to wait until the situation is clarified in L.A. before making a move.

Scott has had several talks with the Cavs and met with Gilbert, general manager Chris Grant and other members of Cleveland’s ownership group on Father’s Day in Michigan. However, he was not offered the job as the meeting was mostly a get-to-know-you affair.

The Cavs have said they would prefer a defensive-minded coach. However, the club is intrigued by Shaw’s knowledge of Jackson’s triangle offense, a system that could entice James to stay with Cleveland.

  • hwnrdr

    Good Morning Nation!!!
    NMF, LMN, Rockstar…

  • hwnrdr

Do you think that if LeBron plays in a triangle offense that he will finally win a championship? Seriously…

  • RaiderRockstar

    Good Morning Hwnrdr!

    Congrats. you’re the 3555th poster!

You’ve just won the ability to cut 3 players from the Oakland Raiders prior to training camp!

    who will it be ???

  • hwnrdr

That is a hard one until I see camp…I would think, though, that if I had to cut a qb…Frye goes because Boller knows Hue’s system. Also, who are all the secondary that we have?

  • RaiderRockstar

    QB: Frye, Boller
    RB: Bennett, Cartwright
    FB: Lawton, Reece, Tonga, Moline
WR: Adeniji, Bodiford, Figurs, Holland, Hubbard, Miller
    TE: Stewart, Owens
OL: Loper, Pears, Parsons, Rodd, Smith, Vallejo
DL: Joseph, Boschetti, Cooper, Daniels, Gunheim

    Hwnrdr – PICK 3

  • RaiderRockstar

  • hwnrdr

Ok, Frye because of what I mentioned above…
DL: Joseph or Cooper…one of them has to go already.
LB: Dare I say Sam Williams?

  • RaiderRockstar

    Hwnrdr: very nice

my picks would be Nick Miller, Marcel Reece & Hiram Eugene!

  • RaiderRockstar

I came VERY CLOSE to adding Carlisle, Barnes, Kelly & Routt to that list.

a few of those guys could end up being on the surprise cuts list that Fire Baby is always talking about … along with Stewart & Howard

Sey Bush: Rob Ryan is a terrible DC

as Rich says, that has NOTHING to do with the Pats or Belichick.

you got spanked last night man. seriously. pretty funny stuff

you’re the one who claimed that by saying “Rob Ryan sucks” that means I think I know more about football or coaching than BB or MH … twist it that way if you like, is basically what I meant yesterday

any predictions for your favorite Cleveland defense next year ???

  • RaiderRockstar

LMN: so you think we’ll reserve a roster spot for Miller, Reece, Moline, Joseph, Nixon, Norris & Owens, but not Bennett, Cartwright, Lawton, Tonga or Goethel ???

Fat Kidd, I believed there was hope until you blamed President Bush for all America’s problems. I sense you have been told many times that you are immature, yes?

POTUS is speaking without TOTUS:Teleprompter of the
United States; and he is doing a pppppooor job of it.

  • RaiderRockstar

Try Cheating: SeyGlenn thinks the Brownies are the team to beat this year with mastermind Holmgren as VP and Fat Blob Ryan as DC … still waiting for his prediction on thier run defense this upcoming year

    your thoughts?

How do you experience success without a decent QB?

TC: thats how the libs think President JaMarcus will get re-elected. picture it now, campaign slogan = look past the last 4 years. blame George Dubbyah!

then they’ll have some weird conspiracy theory of how GWB was behind the oil spill. he caused it to make himself look good in comparison to Prez Pathetic, right?

  • Try Cheating

Goldline commercials are funny. I love to watch that female prop stumbling in high heels out of camera shot. She obviously does not wear high heels very often. Classic!

  • Try Cheating

RR, the Left is hoping Americans will forget. Not gonna happen!

  • Try Cheating

I would support TOTUS before I would OBAMA.

  • Try Cheating

Goldline commercials are funny, but investing in gold is not. If cash is so worthless why are these companies trying to sell you gold? I smell a rat; and no, Richochet is not here.

  • RaiderRockstar

TC: I see commercials all the time of places wanting to buy your used gold

they show some old lady dancing around because she got $500 for an old necklace she hasn’t worn in 40 years

on a completely unrelated topic, I’ve noticed that bunches of sports card shops are going out of business. My dad, brother and I used to collect when I was much younger. now NONE of them are around anymore and right before they went under they even tried to expand their customer base by selling comic books, candy, anime, and those weirdo’s who are into dungeons and dragons or Magic the gathering stuff too. put in a few old arcade game machines, did pogs when they were popular. none of these places can seem to stay afloat no matter what they try. what gives?

too many fat kids into TV or video games that are afraid to go outside now, or what?

“too many fat kids into TV or video games that are afraid to go outside now, or what?” Agreed

I remember being out until the street lights came on. I collected BB cards and comic books too. Those were our Ipods and video games, I guess. Unfortunately look what we have now: In 1979 Jimmy Carter gave citizenship to all of Fidel Castro’s prisoners; Reagan gave amnesty to two million illegals; and they have not stopped coming since. We know nothing about these people or their pasts, but we do know that where large numbers of illegals exist, crime activity is rampant. Folks are rightly concerned about this.

    Leinart & Anderson

Jackson & Rosenfels (if Favre finally calls it quits)

Jon Kitna is out there and Troy Smith’s days are numbered. Jeff Garcia & Jeff George want back in the league. Tui & Walter probably do too! I’m not convinced that JaLoser is better than anybody out there on the FA market …

  • RaiderRockstar

oh yeah. FA’s Josh McCown & Daunte Culpepper are light years ahead of JaBust too …

not sure if Coldpecker would give up a starter gig in the UFL to grab a 3rd string job in the NFL though

  • BigTed707

I used to collect comics and cards too! That’s good stuff. I used to go to a shop that had a huge slot-car track, those were the best!

Too bad that merchandise was so over produced in the 80s and 90s, that most of it never went up in value, even 15-25 years later. That is what killed the hobby, and the card shops, imo.

  • RaiderRockstar

    cut today …

    Tommy Hernandez, C (UC Davis)
    Clint Mower, C (Utah)
    Kurt Quarterman, G (Louisville)
    Leger Douzable, DT (Central Florida)

worth a look in training camp ???

  • BigTed707

JRs only hope is that some team deems him “un-proven”, whereas those other QBs are old, or have already shown that they can’t cut it.

I don’t see him getting signed.
