Outta here

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at 11:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Checking out for a couple of weeks of company-mandated vacation as of midnight.

(Don’t you just hate it when they tell you to get paid for doing nothing? I’d tell you to hold the jokes, but I know better).

Good timing, in that’s the ultimate dead time as far as the NFL goes, with most teams not getting serious about signing draft picks until the Fourth of July and with the Raiders having pretty much shut down activity with the outside world until training camp approaches.

Sorry if I offended anyone with the JaMarcus Russell post at the Andre Ward fight . . . except that, oh, I’m not sorry at all.

The guy showed up in Oakland, where Al Davis is on record as wanting $9.55 million from Russell, and I’m not supposed to mention it?

The most significant draft pick in Raiders history, in terms of where he was picked and dollars paid out, and it should be kept silent?

If that’s what you think, keep in touch with Raiders.com.

Hope all you dads out there had a great Father’s Day. Lost may dad two years ago and still haven’t adjusted to not having him around. Condolences to on-line guru Jon Becker, whose father passed away this week and who I’m sure was keeping in close proximity to his two young children.

It’s the best way to carry on, or at least it was for me.

Assume this space will be updated periodically in my absence.

I’ll be back in July.

Too bad that merchandise was so over produced in the 80s and 90s, that most of it never went up in value, even 15-25 years later. That is what killed the hobby, and the card shops, imo.

    Agreed, Ted

I collected football, baseball & basketball cards from 1991-1997. not much to be proud of for a Raider fan during those years. ZERO Division championships. 2 Playoff appearances

Legalize weed, grow it here, and tax it.
This would greatly reduce the strength of the Mexican Drug Cartel.

It’s not a boarder issue, it’s an employment issue. If illegal immigrants couldn’t get hired here, they wouldn’t risk their lives trying to get here.
You can’t blame Mexicans for stealing jobs that are given to them by greedy employers who don’t want to obey the law.

The census bureau, for whatever reason, includes Hispanics as “white”.

The latest census bureau had 79% of the country “white” but “non-Hispanic” whites around 63%.

Anyway……wouldn’t it be great to have Jamarcus go to AZ, have Leinart get hurt in preseason, and Anderson struggle through 2 and half games.

In for the second half of the Raiders-AZ game in week 3, with me in attendance, none other than the “Chosen one” himself.

  • BigTed707

In Mendo Co., many Mexicans come here illegally just to grow weed, and they have now regard for the community or environment. The problem is, they are making Millions each year in illegal drug trade, so why would they stop?

  • BigTed707

Nice to see Ced Benson in trouble again.

All the Jamarcus supporters always pointed to Ced last year as the former first-round pick that was given up on too early, how the Bears blew it getting rid of him.

That lasted all of one year.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault related to a May 30 incident at a Texas bar.

An Austin police spokeswoman says Benson was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Travis County jail where he posted bail and was released. An arrest affidavit says he punched an employee of a downtown bar after being kicked out for getting into an altercation with another patron.

In 2008, Benson was arrested twice in a month on alcohol charges. While in college at the University of Texas, he pleaded no contest to a charge of criminal trespassing for forcing his way into an apartment to find a television he said was stolen from him.

Ted, why are the employers greedy? If not for those employers, these Mexicans have nothing! Can you tell me what employer can pay a worker less than minimum wage? If so, what is the name of this employer? I do believe employers who hire illegals should be severely punished. However, without cheap labor, the U.S. cannot compete with a billion four Chinese, and a billion two Asian Indians paid a buck a week.

If you’re going to ask people if they would cheer in the event of an nearly impossible situation, why stop at a Raider Super Bowl victory? Yes, Bo, I would cheer if Tom Cable and Al Davis won a Super Bowl. I would also cheer if I won a new truck in a raffle. For Vegas, from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mitchell-bard/reagan-was-wrong-the-nine_b_628022.html

You would think from listening to the rhetoric that we have two choices in this country: Either you adopt the right’s notion of deregulation and an unfettered free market, or you are a socialist. There is no in-between. Which is, of course, patently false, but also maddeningly ignorant of recent American history. Taking the financial industry as an example, after the election of Franklin Roosevelt, Congress quickly enacted legislation, like the Securities Act of 1933, the Banking Act of 1933 (Glass-Steagall), and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, meant to curb the excesses of an unfettered financial system, which had led to the stock market crash of 1929 and the depression that ensued. And for the next 45 years, the country was able to avoid any mass financial collapses.

Then, beginning with Reagan, and continuing through George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, and reaching its peak with the ultimate deregulation messiah, George W. Bush, the government took down the post-Depression financial regulation structure brick by brick, following a mantra that deregulation helped the market to function freely, and a free market will produce the best results.

What did we get? The savings and loan scandal, the Enron-induced power outages in California, corporate fraud (Enron, etc.) and, ultimately, a financial industry run amok (arcane financial instruments, insanely risky investments that banks profited from regardless of their success, and credit rating agencies handing out AAA ratings like candy to keep customers, just to name some examples), all leading to a near financial collapse that plunged the country (and the rest of the world) into a job-sapping, deep recession.

All evidence would seem to point to the need for some regulation to keep the banks from running amok, but the right still clings to its mantra of deregulation and unfettered free markets.
