Cool man. we use mag lites and a wire basket for the frogs that self-closes. Ever try to catch any by hand? I like the challenge (sometimes). We use a classic 3 prong gig and a net. now I think they make 5 prong and one that automatically snaps shut to ensure the best possible results

Never did it in the water by hand. Once you get the light on the eyes, the moment you move the light, they duck under.
However, many times we would be driving along, between places, where these HUGE bullfrogs would just be sitting on the road..so fat from all the bugs they couldn’t even hop..would just hop out and pick them up..not exactly ’sporting’, but some of those legs looked like turkey legs.

We did use the ‘claw’ as we called it..dead center hit’s required..good thing about the claw is you didn’t risk stabbing a leg..just seemed to miss more with the claw, and ultimately went back to the “pitchfork” as the kids in the neighborhood would call it.

Now..”BY HAND”?? son has made me promise I would take him noodling..now THAT looks like a rush..just no cats around here like that..all back in your neck of the woods.
