Raiders' Louis Murphy: 'I Really See Us in the Playoffs'
7/12/2010 6:45 PM ET By Chris Burke
It's almost time for NFL training camps to get going, which means optimism is flowing like water around the league.

Back in June, Lions second-year safety Louis Delmas made the claim that Detroit can go 8-8 and make the playoffs this season. And now Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy has jumped on the prediction bandwagon, claiming in a chat on NFL.com that Oakland's headed for the postseason.

"I see the Silver & Black in the playoffs this year," Murphy wrote. "We had a lot of good chances, a strong rookie class. I really see us in the playoffs. We have the same coaching staff, with a couple of changes. The addition of (new offensive coordinator) Hue Jackson is great, he brings a whole new feel to the offense. He's very energetic. It's a whole new feel. Everyone is excited."

Here's the part where we point out that Oakland hasn't made the playoffs since its Super Bowl runner-up finish in the 2002 season, when Bill Callahan was running the show with Rich Gannon at QB. The Raiders finished 4-12 the next year and haven't topped the five-win mark in any season since, composing a 29-83 record.

Oakland finished 5-11 last year, good for third in the AFC West ahead of Kansas City, but did finish 3-4 down the stretch despite a brutal schedule that included trips to Dallas, Pittsburgh and Denver, plus home games against the likes of Baltimore and Cincinnati. The Raiders also, theoretically, upgraded at the quarterback position, dumping JaMarcus Russell in favor of Washington castoff Jason Campbell. They also added veteran John Henderson to a solid defensive line and drafted linebacker Rolando McClain, among others.

Long story short, if you're looking for reasons to buy low on the Raiders, you can find them. But it's probably worth keeping in mind that you can probably find at least one guy on all 32 teams who thinks his squad's playoff bound.
Murphy says book it dano!!!!!!

Andy Reid defends "very nice person" Michael Vick
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 26, 2010 7:50 PM ET
Eagles coach Andy Reid addressed reporters today at the start of his team's training camp, and questions about backup quarterback Michael Vick dominated the session. Reid has steadfastly defended Vick, and today was no different.

"Michael is a very nice person," Reid said. "He really is." And a Big Mac is a nery nice sandwich!

Anyone else want to see Campbell play some FB at the goal line. I think a counter would be pretty effective.

Dez Bryant Just Another Cowboys Diva
7/26/2010 8:32 PM ET By Anthony L. Gargano
Thanks now to Dez Bryant, LeBron James isn't the most me-bloated, self-sniffing rebel without a pause button on the planet. See, Roy Williams told Dez to carry his shoulder pads like a good rookie, and Dez told him to get his own shine box because Dez doesn't play that.

Even though his well-accomplished number-sake did. And from first-rounders to free-agent camp bodies throughout the history of the league, just about everyone else did when they were a rookie. Because there's a lesson in it about humility. Because no matter how swoll your bankroll or swagger rating on "Madden '11", you need to earn respect in the room. Because the sum of the room wins in football.

And while Dez has declared much through a couple days in San Antonio, impressing the eyes with a series of one-handed snares and deep grabs, the Cowboys will only win in a house not divided. So while it's news that Dez dons Michael Irving's jersey, the voices in that locker room had better make sure now that it doesn't say H1N1 on the back instead of 88.

Romo better order a Code Red.

And blame it on the ghost of Terrell Owens.
