Raiders report to Napa today

It’s reporting day as Raiders players begin arriving at the Napa Valley Marriott this afternoon.

They spend Wednesday in meetings, with Tom Cable available to the media at noon. Practices are at 8:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. beginning Thursday.

The plan is to file Twitter updates from time to time as they arrive, as well as a more detailed report here in the late afternoon and/or evening.

Check my Twitter page for brief news and notes until then.

In the meantime, time to pack a lunch, put gas in the car and start driving . . .

Raiders strike five-year deal with Rolando McCain. The deal guarantees him $26.5 million. The deal’s base value is reportedly $40.25 million with the opportunity to make $16.75M more via incentives. McClain’s annual average is $8.05 million.

    RIP Jack.

    RR,

Casey Hampton WAS a 4x probowler before he came to camp out of shape 2 years ago. He made his first probowl since 2003 and fyi the only year he didnt make the probowl since 2003 was 2008 the year he showed up out of shape.

Cody is a rookie. He showed up unfit to practice for his FIRST camp. What kinda message is he trying to send? I’ll take Houston and Henderson all day over some unfit rookie.

AIG: this team need a solid anchor on both lines

at the time Houston was drafted, Henderson wasn’t a Raider and we had enough DE’s

and the Center position remains unsolved!

  • bcz24

A moment of silence for the Assassin please…

  • M Lonetree

a nod and a salute to Mr Jack Tatum.

  • RaiderRockstar

I’m content with Henderson & Houston

Houston over Cody alone didn’t and wouldn’t satisfy me

    we need run cloggers!

If we make the playoffs this year, it’ll have just as much to do with the success of Henderson & McClain on defense as it does Jackson & Campbell on offense …

  • BigTed707

Rest In Peace Mr. Jack Tatum.

    A Nation Salutes You.

  • bcz24

Hopefully the NFL will let the Raiders wear his number as a patch on all the jerseys.

  • bcz24

That settles it for me… Jack Tatum jersey this year.

    RIP Jack Tatum

    Michael Bennett currently wears #32

    what a joke!

I wish he and Mike Mitchell would swap :)

  • SilverNBlackPA

What can be said about the Assassin that we don’t all already know? The hardest hitting safety ever, a fierce competitor, an intimidator extraordinaire…Tatum summarized and symbolized the Raiders of the 1970′s. I hope the defense does honor to his memory this year by going out, busting some people in the mouth and being the meanest motherfukkers they can be.

The Raider Nation will always remember the GREAT JACK TATUM. R.I.P.

  • Pretty Rick

Record more likely to happen,,5-11,,,9-7,,,10-6 ?
Im guessing 9-7,,possibly sneaking into the playoffs.

  • M Lonetree

a pity that young’ns here like Rockstar never got to see the likes of Assassin, Atkinson and Willie Brown patrol the secondary.

remembering this or that about Tatum, the goal line hit he put on Earl Campbell always stands out to me. Yes, Campbell staggered into the end zone on the play but I never saw anyone else stun Earl with any hit the way Jack did on that play in the Astrodome.

I hope Stingley and Tatum finally made their peace today…

  • bigd2010

Lonetree im 30 and and didnt get to see the games when he played. But my dad being such a great member of the Nation kept years of recorded raider games. We used to watch recorded games of the team we where playing that week. Just to get pumped for the game. I loved the Assasin as a kid just because of his name, and as i got older i loved him for his hits on anybody croossing the middle. RIP Jack

god, al davis may really outlive us all… joking aside, it must be terribly difficult to see so many acquaintances and friends pass every year.

For all of Al’s other shortcomings, we can be sure he is doing 110% to help the Tatum family today. I just wish he was that classy with coaches and media.

I really like our draft picks this year. I think Houston may be able to do some things. He looks quick! I just don’t know if he is big enough to play tackle with the big guys. End may be his right position in the NFL.

I remember meeting Jack Tatum back in 96′ or 97′. There was a Raiders store in Jack London then if I remember it correctly. I think it was the store’s opening night. I recognized him and said “Are you Jack Tatum” and he nodded. I remember thinking, wow he does not look as big as I would have imagined. Granted it was several decades after he played but my respect for him because he did not appear so big. I remember he had sort of a quiet confidence about him the short time I talked with him. He graciously signed a Raiders program I had and I will cherish that even more after his passing. Class act all around. RIP Assassin, we will always remember you!

Bummer about Jack Tatum…61 is too young.

Please people, have some respect for the guy…don’t try and claim that the earthworm on the field during the kickoff of our first victory must have been his spirit…

  • Just Fire Baby

Al Davis = Executive of the year

    Tom Cable = COY

DHB = comeback player of the year

    Pain Mclain = ROY

Bruce Gradkowski = NFL MVP (just kidding)

    *****Must Read************

OK, I know this is not a Dallas Blog but I ahve to comment on the way they made a big deal out of Dez Bryant carrying Roy Williams pads.I could have summed all of this bull$#!t up in three words “BIG FREAKING DEAL!!!” I hate all of that traditional hazing BS. So he did not carry Roy’s pads boo-hoooooo.

    The Cowboys are idiots!

By the way Roy, Dez is getting your catches you suck! The kid comes in making plays, gets signed early (unlike Roy with the Lions)being productive and the media and his team is still riding this guy.
