I was more saying they abandoned reason and self preservation! They hit people. They hit them hard and they hit them often... thats why we remember their names. Jack was like a hitman an artist if you will. He was very calculating in how he hit you. He used his shoulder combined with his helmet. His form was impecable. When he approach you he would hit through you with awesome velocity. Sometimes launching himself at his target and he rarely missed. The Stingley incident was in a preseason game and Jack never thought Stingley would go up that high for that pass, he was trying to send a message but Stingley was trying to prove how fearless he was and stretched out causing himself to be upended and fell on his neck Jack was just being Jack. Stingley should'v covered up for th impact instead of reaching for an overthrown pass. And that is what caused the unfortunate injury. It was unnecessary but Jack couldn't stop his progress and ended up hitting him lower than he wanted and couldn't catch him. Stingley called it a dirty hit but if you look at the hit and take into consideration the rules of the day it was as clean as clorox. Stingley was just overexuberant and paid the ultimate price.
