Check Twitter for practice updates

Getting ready to leave for Napa and the Raiders’ first practice of training camp.

This morning at 8:30 a.m. will mark the first of eight “learning-intensive” or walk-through practices, although coach Tom Cable did refer to a little more action during drills.

For updates from the penalty box (the 20-yard rectangle on the far side of each field where the media must stay as of last year), check this link to my Twitter page.

The first player interview session, which ostensibly will include recently anointed starting quarterback Jason Campbell and newly-signed first-round pick Rolando McClain, take place following the first practice. There is a second practice at 4:20 p.m.

Sorry. July 15th is the earliest day any team can have players report. Veterans can report no more than 15 days prior to the first preseason game. Rookies can report up to 7 days before the vets. So today would be the first day players are allowed to practice. Sorry Dakota, I got confused when I read the July 15th date.

Matt S. had 18.5 sacks in college, so maybe he is the better pass rusher….then again, he did play in a lower division…the big ten.

My hope is to have Seymour at LE, with Kelly and Henderson at DT and Matt S. or Houston at RE on normal downs, and then have Matt S and Houston at the ends with Kelly and Seymour at DT on obvious passing downs.

Seymour would probably dislike that though…

    Great Defense!!!!!
Houston can be replaced with Scott, Wimbley, or Groves on passing downs. I Love It!!!!!

  • J Wiggle

I LOVE that Dline we have out there. I think at this point of his career, Seymour should be playing more DT downs than DE.

If Houston is as advertised, he NEEDS to be on the field NOW beating the shyt outta RTs.

  • J Wiggle

Houston and Seymour lined up next to each other with Wimbley outside of Houston?!?!?!?

    LOVE IT!

  • http://www.oakglenisafuktard.com MistaBrown

We know have some depth. Bryant, Henderson, and Kelly can rotate in & out lets face it no DT’s play every down. We can also move Kelly to the end and have Bryant & Henderson inside. Seymour & Houston are also flexible to go inside. We are setup very nicely on the D-line right now.

—”Offensive coordinator continues to heap praise on fourth-round QB Mike Kafka, saying the rookie’s grasp on the playbook may be the quickest he’s ever seen. “Now, he’s sharp book-wise, but he’s also very intelligent in a football sense,” said Mornhinweg. “He’s really picked it up very quickly … He’s had just terrific minicamps. He started hot and stayed hot.” The Eagles appear to have hit the jackpot on a developmental QB. Kafka’s “decisive trigger” is perfectly suited for the West Coast scheme.”—

    Dakota,

We have big LBs (250+), they can help stop the run, but we still need to rush the passer.
We have diff players capable of doing diff things in our front 7. T Scott & Wimbley can rush the passer, TH is one of the best cover LBs in the game, and McClain will be a great Leader. Houston can play UT or DE, Seymour can play every position on the DL, and TK is capable of playing multiple positions. Henderson is a run stuffer, and Matt S is a good pass rusher!

    In three years Cable has:

    1) Stopped Kiffin’s practice of making the players practice until they run the play right;

    2) Spent time letting the players practice celebrating TDs they will never score because they can’t run the plays right (see #1 above); and

    3) Turned the first 4 days of training camp into “So you think you can dance?” auditions.

Yeah, I see his master plan…

    ——————————————-

To be fair, LT play is also considered important because right-handed QB’s drop back looking to their right more than their left. If the LE breaks through, they can at least see it and either eat the ball or chuck it away. But a broken-through RE will usually catch them unawares. Fumble!

  • bigd2010

What up Nation? I read an article on Espn.com that more teams are easing their players into camp. Not going directly to smashing each other right from the get. Just something i read. Also D linemen in a 4-3 will switch sides. One D end will be a strongside and one will be weekside.

Wait a minute. We’re talking about a rookie 4th round QB who’s had a nice first day of camp. Let’s not get his bust ready in Canton quite yet.

Bcz, of course it was a joke after I called you out. There was nothing in your post to indicate you were joking, but why even joke about one of our own getting injured? Yes, we are talking about a 4th round pick who is behind the committed 1 starter in philly and behind Vick. But hey Kafka will beat out both those guys and win division titles….even without 1 pro snap.

These are the same guys who are still in love with Kitten. LMN was on PFT boasting that Kitten was the best coach since the AFL.
