Day 2 practice updates here
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, July 30th, 2010 at 7:06 am in Oakland Raiders.
Getting ready to head to Napa for the second day of training camp.
The first order of business will be to see if Chaz Schilens, who left practice early during Thursday’s second session, is on the field.
Ordinarily, leaving practice early is no big deal and that could be the case here. It happens all the time, particularly early in camp, when players experience anything from muscle tightness to an upset stomach.
But Schilens’ case will be watched closely because he’s had two surgeries on his left foot within the past year for a broken metatarsal, an injury which cut short his training camp in 2009 and cost him half of the regular season. He is the most skilled player at what qualifies as a possession receiver among the wideouts on the Raiders’ inexperienced receiving corps.
Schilens walked off the practice field under his own power and returned after practice had ended, neither time on crutches, walking with a limp or wearing the dreaded protective boot of Darren McFadden fame.
Check here for updates on my Twitter account from the penalty box.
(For some reason, the media viewing area is divided this year by a line in the center. Not sure why. Perhaps to form an isolation unit if and when Poole and Kawakami arrive).

Tebow will start ZERO games this year.
Orton is the starter this year and if he throws for 3800 yards and 21 TD’s again, possibly next
Denver has always been a run-first, play solid D football team. McDaniels went pass happy last year for whatever reason but I don’t expect them to try that again without Marshall & Scheffler …
July 30th, 2010 at 7:56 am
despite being drafted in Round 1, Tim Tebow is still a project.
is McDaniels the guy to groom him? maybe
if he continues to work with Gruden & Trestman I imagine that’ll expedite the process
this year? bench for 16 games
July 30th, 2010 at 7:59 am
As soon as the Broncos fall out of contention, Tebow will be seeing reps, if not sooner.
If McDaniels just plays Orton and they go 5-11, he might get canned, so at least playing a rookie and going 5-11 gives him an excuse to stick around longer.
And I think Tebow will see Wildcat action week 1.
July 30th, 2010 at 8:00 am
Denver Broncos = last place in AFC West.

July 30th, 2010 at 8:01 am

Are we making too much out of Chaz’s walk-off to the training room?
I mean if you told us we would get about 75% participation in OTA’s, about 50% in training camp, and 10 games in the year, we would all be fairly happy with that.
No reason to do anything with him, he is still on that 7th round pick rookie contract, he probably is one of the lowest paid players on the team.

hard to rate Mario H. thus far; linemen off on own a lot or not doing much in drills besides getting technique, assignments down
… but with all interceptions he’s thrown first couple of days he might be opening door to backup job for Boller and Frye
If quarterback competition came down to deep, commanding voice at line of scrimmage, Gradkowski would be No. 1 hands down …

By Bill Williamson
There has been some chatter lately that perhaps Oakland Raiders safety Michael Huff could move to cornerback.
Huff, the No.7 overall pick in the 2006 draft, played both cornerback and safety in college while at Texas. He is versatile enough to pull it off.
If he moved to cornerback, he’d compete with Chris Johnson at right cornerback and Stanford Routt for the nickel spot. If he left the safety spot, he’d make room for 2009 second-round pick Mike Mitchell.
I caught up with Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. to discuss the possibility. Williamson thinks because both Johnson and Routt are solid players and because Huff is not a perfect cornerback fit for Oakland’s man coverage, he’d probably be best suited to stay at safety.
Here is some of what Williamson had to say:
“I could see him being a good cornerback in a system like Pittsburgh’s where the Steelers play off. He is a big, physical player who can tackle and he’d be effective there, but in Oakland’s scheme, he could have trouble. The cornerbacks in Oakland play in a tiny, confined area. I’m not sure he’d fit. Plus, Johnson and Routt are good players. I don’t know if Oakland would need him. Huff is an OK safety, so Oakland may be best suited just to keep him there … In the end, playing safety in Oakland is probably Huff’s best bet.”

Watching replay of VT vs Alabama game on ESPN classic, Haven’t seen anything impressive from McClain yet but he did have a dumb penalty around the goal line that cost the team at least 4 points, he’s a raider alright!
July 30th, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Wait a minute, what planet am i on? We have a head coach that actually likes coaching the raiders, and likes working for the old man upstairs. he al work together with out a buffer or go between, has this ever happened in oakland? He swallowed his own ego ( something gruden couldn’t do) and asked Al to teach him. He gave up his play calling duties, and hired a man that could replace him if the team tanks. He also has his finger prints on this all over this years team, and clearly is able to influence and get what he wants from big Al! The guys on the team love him, this cant be overstated, remember those weasels kiffin, and callahan?
We have a play caller that will put points on the board. The 03 redskins were one of the most prolific offenses in the league that year he was o.c. Dont forget how painful, the norv turner, tom walsh, and greg knapp eras have been.
We have VETERAN LEADERSHIP!?!??!?!? Wow guys that show up early, stay late and tutor the rooks! Even in our beloved gruden run, that team was full of personal agendas and major egos. This team is actually, dare i say it, ( scoobie doo, gulp) unselfish. No under achieving head cases, like sapp, porter, hall, jeff george, and all the other knuckle heads we have been forced to watch. No pouting loafers like , moss, mcglockton, jordan.
Al Davis looks to have regained his mojo, having people that he trust around him. Instead of being so paranoid and insulated, that he cant get out of his own way. He didnt reach in the draft, and he resisted the ego maniacal fading stars, like haynesworth. Even though many of you here wanted exactly that guy, and wanted davis out.
The move that i love as the most under the radar, Mike wauffle, and john marshall! Wauffle has led one of the best d lines over the last several years including a super bowl run, and our last good d line here in the town in the gruden era. With all of our new horses get ready for the new BLACK OUT DEFENSE!!!!
Somebody slap me…. and second thought if i am hallucinating pour me another cup of that purple drank, this is awesome!
