Day 2 practice updates here

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, July 30th, 2010 at 7:06 am in Oakland Raiders.

Getting ready to head to Napa for the second day of training camp.

The first order of business will be to see if Chaz Schilens, who left practice early during Thursday’s second session, is on the field.

Ordinarily, leaving practice early is no big deal and that could be the case here. It happens all the time, particularly early in camp, when players experience anything from muscle tightness to an upset stomach.

But Schilens’ case will be watched closely because he’s had two surgeries on his left foot within the past year for a broken metatarsal, an injury which cut short his training camp in 2009 and cost him half of the regular season. He is the most skilled player at what qualifies as a possession receiver among the wideouts on the Raiders’ inexperienced receiving corps.

Schilens walked off the practice field under his own power and returned after practice had ended, neither time on crutches, walking with a limp or wearing the dreaded protective boot of Darren McFadden fame.

Check here for updates on my Twitter account from the penalty box.

(For some reason, the media viewing area is divided this year by a line in the center. Not sure why. Perhaps to form an isolation unit if and when Poole and Kawakami arrive).

I dont have any links, but everything I have ever read concerning Huff is that he is a zone guy, doesnt do well in tight coverage.

    ***

sounds made-up man. I’ve been a fan of Huff since we drafted him and haven’t read anything that ever said anything remotely close to that

    not buying it

Schilens just watching, nothing on his legs or feet

GarbageKowski Sucks!!!! He is a Backup at best!!!!
I’m getting sick of all this GarbageKowski talk.

I blame Vegas, he started it! LOL

  • Thec07

I like Grads as a backup and not a starter. If our starter goes down, would not mind him stepping in…
He is a stand up guy…

  • RaiderRockstar

Thec: I thought Bruce did a nice job last year filling in for JaMarcus, but I wouldn’t consider him a potential starter with any NFL team or even competition for Jason Campbell.

Having said that, if Frye & Boller both outplay him in camp & preseason … what do you do?

do you blame it on rust at final cutdowns and annoint him the #2 QB or do you go with the other guys who did a better job more recently?

  • Just Win Baby

Stanford Routt sucks. He will get beat badly all year long.

Either Frye or Boller would be good as a back up. Best man (this camp/pre-season) wins the job.
