    Priest,

I slamdunked you before on your Boller is better than Grad. Please show me your football knowledge on Boller. I bet you’ll get bodyslamed again.

  14. aig-raiders Says:

    Priest,

how many 300 yds passing games does Boller has in his career? Dont you even dare tell me he didnt get enough opportunities.

  15. DirtyRaccoon Says:

RAADERS!!! RAADERS!!! RAADERS!!! WOO WOO WOOT!! LETS GO BABY! OOOOOUWWWWWWWWGGGGAAAA!!!!

    DAM, 211 IS THE BUSINESS!!!

  16. Just Fire Baby Says:

Kyle Boller has thrown for more INT’s than TD’s not only in the pro’s BUT IN COLLEGE TOO!!!!

I usually stand up for ex-Cal Bears but I was not a fan of his at all. Joe Ayoob may have been better, IMO.

  17. DirtyRaccoon Says:

In my MR (femi) acsent… “Thats right Prieeests, don’t eavan teelll mee thaat…

  18. aig-raiders Says:

    Priest,

I base my Grad observation on the fact that he actually took a snap as a Raider QB in the regular season. What are you basing your judgment of Boller on for the Raiders?

Again, how many 300 yds passing game has Boller achieved in his pro career Priest?

  19. DirtyRaccoon Says:

Fry is the BEST QB of the rest!

J, Russ still has more talent in his gut then all these also rans!

  20. TerrapinRaider Says:

Grad sucks, Boller sucks, and Campbell? I hope he doesn’t suck. But they all may be better that that turd JR – I had this guy’s back all damn year for 2yrs straight. What a waste of talent. He had it all.

So in the end I would expect a better team performance at the margin.

  21. DirtyRaccoon Says:

    (Femi) doont yoouuu DAARE!!

  22. Just Fire Baby Says:

Just looked it up, he has never thrown for more than 289 yards in a game.

Hell, I think even Jamarcus came close to that.

Charlie Frye would give him a good run, but he is like Glass Joe out there. Big tall, goofy guy, he is just a big-hit waiting to happen.

After that Denver game when he got knocked out, they cued the cameras to him on the sideline for about a full two minutes, and I don’t think he blinked even once.

  23. DirtyRaccoon Says:

Go easy TerrapinRaider, J. Russ still is an awesome QB, just not when there is a defence on the field.

  24. Just Fire Baby Says:

I think it’s pretty safe to say Jamarcus didn’t “have it all”.

  25. aig-raiders Says:

    JFB,

You are correct he never threw for any 300 yd game. Now you got these guys wanting to let Grad go and keep Frye and Boller. Frye and Grad played with the same unit last year, and Grad did much better.

  26. 909RaiderLifer Says:

Schilens watching again. No surprise. Cable seemed more optimistic about him practicing than he did.
    1 minute ago via PockeTwit

  28. TerrapinRaider Says:

Schilens ..will he EVER have a healthy year? EVER!
    DHB is encouraging
    I liked the draft
Worried about the “newness” of the LB corp
Campbell is likely no savior, but he should do better than you know who
DMC ..lets face it ..he’s been a disappointment for those who advocated his drafting
I like the fact that we have 2 hard workers on both sides of the ball leading the O & the D now

  29. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

The only NFL talent that Russell ever had was that he could throw a ball a long way.
    Everything else was missing.
And if you had his back for two years Terrapin, then maybe you’re wrong when you say that both Grad and Boller suck.

  30. priesttj Says:

So you say Bollr didn’t pass for any 300 yd games….. so did he win any games? I could care less about 300 yard games can he win? why should I car about 300 yard games what does that mean?

Grads is what I say he is a backup……..period

Boller is a backup IMO but I’ll wait to see both in this preseason on THIS team before I make up my mind. I’m not some huge supporter of Boller it’s you who were so heavy handed about Boller not measuring up to Grads was my question. I never said Boller was some great QB. I just prefer him over Grads……..period 300 yd games as if that means something. The question is can he win games nothing else matters.

  31. Raider E Says:

Chaz now has to become an afterthought. We need to move on like he is not our #1 guy period….

  32. TerrapinRaider Says:

England ..the boy had the talent ..every scout saw that ..lets not take that away from him ..he just didnt have the drive needed to bring it to fruition.

Boller and Grads are both career backups for the most part. Thats a fact based on their careers to date. They we’re primarily backup players unless injury or poor performace befell the person in front of them. Campbell, on the other hand, has his faults for sure but he has been a long time starter at this level – not a guy coming fresh off the bench itching for action. But trust me when I say not too many in Washington were saddenned by his departure – many were ready to move on.

Those are just the facts. No hope. No prayers. Just facts.

  33. kvnbntly Says:

frye was tearing it up in his second start

  34. Raider E Says:

The facts are Grads and Frye will NOT hold up beyond a few games behind our oline. That is a FACT…

  35. TerrapinRaider Says:

Frye is a little reckless isn’t he? Can’t remember him too well but he throws a lot of INTs doesn’t he?

Maybe Raider E is right. The Oline, the Oline. That has been an issue for years now. Cornell’s departure is a plus so lets go from there – improvement at the margin.

  36. priesttj Says:

I’m waiting to see what Campbell really brings to the table. I haven’t seen him play much and I want to se what he is. Why hasn’t he won? Hopefully this situation is more favorable for him. I don’t know but my gut feeling is we need to draft a young guy to groom.

  37. Lynn from Snot Says:

With a name like Chaz what did you expect besides a china doll who can’t stay healthy, I have serious reservations that Chaz can be a no. 1

  38. Raider E Says:

We don’t have a #1, and no TO is not a #1 anymore. Murphy could be a decent #2 at this point. All the rest are #3’s or worse. I hope Campbell can take a hit like Russell.

  39. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

    Terrapin:
Russell’s only problem was that he didn’t have the drive? Did you ever see someone that slow moving back in the pocket? You could have had Shell and Upshaw out there and they wouldn’t have had been able to hold on that long.
Did you ever see such lousy footwork?
Did you ever see anyone who so little of the field? He saw half of the field on a good day.
How many passes were thrown at the feet of receivers?

However, he’s GONE! And at least we’ve got someone better whether it be Campbell, Grad, Boller.
None of them are Russell who sucked the life out of the offense and the defense.

  40. Raider E Says:

We are looking at running Murphy and DHB out there for the second year in a row. It was f#$@ing crazy when they were rookies as I said last camp. Maybe this year will be better. JLH is our #3/slot. Like it or not, it is what it is.

  41. Lynn from Snot Says:

Look for Miller and the RBs to take on the majority of passes thrown this year unless Chaz gets an Iron man suit for protection

  42. Raider E Says:

I disagree England, I thought it was the coolest thing ever when The Snake would drop back and let his arms fall to his sides waiting for a reciever. Shell and Upshaw were the best ever.

  43. Raider E Says:

Stabler had all day to pass the ball and he knew it.

  44. B-MO Says:

Man I have been daydreaming about Al trading for Haynesworth and imagining how good our defense could be with him. Imagine a front 4 of Houston, Haynesworth, Seymour, Shaugnnessy/Richardson. I think we could be top 5 Defense in that case.

  45. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

    Raider E:

And it’s Stabler back to pass… Branch is streaking down the side…no, it’s Casper!…fifty yards..over his shoulder..doesn’t even look up.. Holy Toledo!!

That would be a very Al Davis pickup. I don’t think the dolts would trade him in the division though.

  63. B-MO Says:

    E,

I think our Young guys might just surprise a lot of people this year. Especially with a reliable QB in Campbell and a great TE in Miller. Just saw Papa interview Jason Campbell on Chronicle Live.

  64. B-MO Says:

AJ Smith would never trade him in the division.

  65. Raider E Says:

I was joking bro. I have hope that our young guys get it done, but thats all we have are young guys. So I would say that they are just the guys. I really wanna see Nick Miller get a chance. I have a penchant for rooting for the underdog.

  66. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

We should never even have considered T.O.
That guy’s time has passed and his attitude never arrived.

For all we know Chaz will be fine but our receivers are good anyway.
With Campbell as the announced starting QB, we know we’ll be better in that position too.
The biggest problem is that our offensive wasn’t good last and this year it’s the same except for one addition.
Campbell had trouble with the Washinton OL but ours is worse.
Maybe Cable will have more time to work with it.

  71. B-MO Says:

I agree….I think Nick Miller could be a nice little Slot Receiver. Let’s be honest though…the O-line will either make or break this team. If Hue jackson can call games that play to the strength of our o-line and not ask them to do too much then we have a chance at the playoffs.

  72. Raider E Says:

I watched the replay of our last game against the Ravens, and have to say our passing game didn’t look bad. Frye looked good. He just got slapped around. Russell pretty much gave that game away. I am gonna say right now that if Campbell cannot take the hits we will have our 8th straight losing season and 3 injured quarterbacks.

James Jett have a good career for an undrafted FA but he never lovd the game it was a business to him and he was a brilliant business man. Expert when it comes to playing the stock market but played the game as if it was a hobby.

With DHB and JFord these two guy’s love this game and want to be great at it. With their god given talent they can be as good as they choose to be. DHB is going to be scary I’ve ben kind of waiting to see it for myself but just from the kinds of things I’m haring from Jerry I’m already convinced DHB is going to be a beast, an absolute beast.

  95. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

We are finding out why Chaz Schilens was a 7th round pick. The guy should just sit down until he’s fully healed.

He’s not reliable. Go with Murphy, DHB and JLH in the slot. If Schilens can make it..its bonus points at this point. The guy has been injured every year since his college days.

Bad feet…not the place to have nagging injuries.

  96. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

Projecting rookies and expecting game changing contributions are asking a lot. McClain and Houston should contribute…anything after that? Is bonus points.

Ford, Veldheheer, Campbell, McFadden et al are just trying to learn the game and get on the field. All you got right now is running around in shorts.

    WR – DHB, Murphy, JLH
OL – Henderson, Gallery, Satele, Carlisle, Walker
DB – Asomugha, Huff, Johnson, Branch, Routt

Veterans are going to beat out middle and late round picks most of the time

  104. priesttj Says:

Murph was anything special and he stilll caught 34 passes. One thing I know w’ll seee this year is much more consistency on offense. We will run a ton more plays because one thing I’ve learned about Campbell is that he is a checkdown specialist. He gets a lot of 1st downs. He passed for over 3,500 yards just checking down and an occasional fling downfield.

Guy’s will be able to get in a rhythum that way. He uses the slot a lot in check downs as well as HB’s so everyone will get more opportunities. Campbell could pass for 4,000 yards just doing that. He also is a great redzone passer so I could see him passing for 25 TD’s.

That’s why I see DHB having a real good year he’ll have a ton of touches. With his athleticism DB’s will have a tough time stopping him. IMO because of Chaz fragility Murph and DHB will make a ton of plays.

  105. SaintKaufman Says:

I know you all didn’t ask for them but they’re the last 2 cents I got, so here ya go…

Biggest difference for Campbell will be the sheer size of the targets he now has. Look at Randle El, Galloway, Moss and Cooley. Now compare them size and height to Bey, Shilens, Murphy and Miller. Hell, look at the size difference in the RB’s he’ll be throwing to now.

Seems to me throwing the ball in traffic will be more effective as well as just getting the ball up where these guys can go get it. Screw speed, everybody is fast at this level(OK, maybe not Stu) but speed AND size will be a big upgrade for Campbell to do his thing.

    Crap, now I’m broke!

appears very odd to me over the years that many in this forum drone misplaced hatred upon the managing general partner. (if this were a blog about another NFL franchise I could understand the fear/hatred/glad they’re down mentality when it comes to the Raiders and Al Davis.)
if y’all want white bread and processed cheese mentalities with a Budweiser and an occasional bratwurst on the side there are plenty of those teams to cheer for.
here things are done differently. if you want rare tri-tip with a side of habaneros and shots of Tres Generaciones then this is the team.
this stems from the top on down.
    last four #1s
Jabustus. rated best QB available. #2 turned out to be a turd.
McF. rated highest RB (except for BHP’s foresight about CJ28). flawed and salvageable? Hue Jack?
DHB. The kid has it all. Love to hear the squeals of the haters when he emerges (but all they will say is “ain’t worth #7″ blah blah blah.)
Rolando. Top rated Lb. Butkus winner.
WTF do some of you want Al to do?
    Top rated tackle Gallery.
    Top rated center Grove.
the freakin’ players have to do something themselves, no?
when the Cable Guy tells the squad to forget about all the negativity perpetrated by the national media (didn’t any of you mofos feel the least bit sorry for DHB having to hear all the shyte out there. a good kid and many of you mofos parroting the same crap without any love for him) he nails it. national (an some local)media members have long hated and feared the Raiders. that is never going to change. piling on with glee that Al’s troop have been down has been their greatest joy.
and some of you have been no better. some of you are kids for whom seven years is a large portion of a lifetime.
Al has suffered more than you bloggers have from these years.
in some knowledgeable circles it is known that life does go in seven year intervals.
    the lean years are over.
the moment to rise is nigh.
    so kwit yer beetchin’ and

As optimistic as I am about this season, the Raiders can’t truly contend with the best teams out there until they have consistency on the offensive line.

Hopefully Campbell and Veldheer pan out. Even then, the Raiders still have a need for a legitimate center (especially in a 3-4 happy division). A left tackle capable of taking on pass rushers like Dumervil, Merriman, etc. would also help.

    I’d like to see this:

LT – Jared Gaither (free agent after this season I think?)
LG – Gallery (or Veldheer if Gallery can’t hold up)
C – draft Mike Pouncey in the second round?
    RG – Bruce Campbell
RT – Veldheer (or Barnes or Henderson or Walker)

Even just marginal improvement on the offensive line could be the difference between the Raiders just being contenders in the AFC West, and the Raiders being contenders in the NFL.

I’m starting to believe Cable when he talks about the “culture change”. The younger players are actually seeking out advice from the veterans this season. Houston consulting Seymour between plays, Heyward-Bey practicing late with Asomugha… It’s refreshing to see.

Terrell Owens carries Chad Ochocinco’s pads
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 31, 2010 8:53 AM ET
We never expected players carrying each other’s pads back to the locker room after training camp practices to become one of the most talked-about stories during the summer of 2010, but here we are: New Bengals receiver Terrell Owens is carrying the pads for teammate Chad Ochocinco.

Owens isn’t a rookie, but he is the new guy in Cincinnati, and he says he’s fine with carrying Ochocinco’s pads for as long as he’s no longer considered the new guy.

“I guess until he tells me I’m good to go,” Owens said. “I don’t have a problem with it. Whatever Chad says, Chad gets.”

That attitude puts Owens in the same company as Rams rookie Mardy Gilyard, but in contrast to Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant, who first refused to carry Roy Williams’ pads, then said he didn’t know he was breaking with NFL tradition, and now has much more important things to worry about.

Overall, Owens says he’s happy in Cincinnati and just doing his best to fit into the offense.

“It’s getting better, and that’s the thing with this offense,” Owens said. “It’s not easy, but I feel like I’m a rookie all over again, but it will come around.”

I remember people really wanted to draft this guy, man boobs and all.

IMO, the biggest bust position in the draft is O-lineman, just nobody ever remembers the guys.

Really enjoying the addition of camp coverage via Twitter this year. It would be extra helpful to us readers if you could repost all of your tweets for a given day back here on the blog in these posts where you’re mentioning that you are Tweeting. I think you could do it with very little extra effort using some of the free tools that are out there. Drop me an email if you’d like a suggestion or two.
