The media is scheduled to meet with NFL officials for their annual presentation on rule changes and points of emphasis this afternoon before practice.
In the meantime, check out what NFL scouts have to say about the relative merits of Darren McFadden and Michael Bush in a story in today’s Bay Area News Group publications.

The Raiders need an idenity. They need to stop the run, and run the damm ball. All of the other crap will follow. Cable has no imagination. Gruden would kick ass with this talent alone. Reading the comments, on the previous thread regarding JLH. Training Camp is barely one week old. The play of his performance will be determined if he maes the 53 man roster for this year.
Me personally, not to excuse his play, but we just don’t know what he can do, as a player due to the horrible play of the QB situation, the last few years.
The postive perspective is let’s play out the pre season and we will know if he is legit.
Last point, Ford seems to be a good selection, learning a NFL system can be overwhelming. So before he Ford is played into JLH slot, let’s be patient and see what happens to his progress through camp.

I answered your question using the context of my original statement. You are attempting to use generalities to make me say I prefer people that lie over people that are stand up as a rule…I am not playing your little game. Here was my answer to you before and it is still my answer:

Darren McFadden is going to have a breakout year, Rolando McClain is going to be defensive rookie of the year, DHB will have over 1,000 receiving yards and Richard Seymour will have over ten sacks this season!!

Daniels at fullback is real interesting. The background as a former running back serves his potential change well. The fullback, will hit the hole first and his recognition to move to the next level for a block is what he needs to do.
My reads from the media is, he can catch also. A 275 pound fullback, is what we need in this offense.
This may need to play out over the summer, but I say give him the reps and let’s see what happens.

Exactly Dell…….I just urge people to go look at all the games JLH has been in since 2007 and see the pct of completions he has when the ball is thrown to him…..people with any sense will shut up.
Rookies do good things in training camp alot only to get the biz handed to them when the opposition arrives. This nonsense about JLH on suicide watch is ridiculous. JLH was a much better college player than Ford coming out and we talk about Al Davis scholarships and such well you know JLH isnt going anywhere especially how Al talked him up when he hired Cable.
People asked why did we draft Ford? Well we need special teams help plain and simple. Ford’s best value to us is at KR and PR. I wont mind if he takes JLH spot at PR because Higgins is our best slot guy and his focus needs to be there

I think we will be fine with 3 WRs under 6′ due to us having big RBs (DMC 6′2 & Bush 6′1) and TEs (6′4+). The other 3 WRs are over 6′1.

Had kinda rough day today. Got to work this morning and a lady is standing in the parking lot crying. Plant’s closing effective Dec 31. Wasn’t completely shocked. The writing has been on the wall. We got bought out/merged with a competitor last month. As part of consolidation, ours was one of five closed, so far.
Pretty decent severence package, though. Two weeks paid per year of service. Been there seven years. One month of company paid insurance.
My wifes family has been after us for several years to move to N.C. Now might be the time to look into it.
No way in hell I’m changing my name to Tar HeelRaider, though. No way. No how.

We printed some pretty cool sports related stuff, though. The Sporting News preview mags. Cincinnati Reds programs and the official Indy 500/Brickyard programs.
Plus, a couple of years ago we printed the Sports Illustrated Super bowl Mag. You know the ones…Steeler fans, you’re team just won the Super Bowl!… Beautiful book. We did such a good job, Time, inc. gave every employee a copy. I snagged about five of em for my Steeler fan friends, obnoxious as they may be.
I thought damn, I’d like to have a Raider version of these someday. Guess I’ll have to buy a friggin subscription.

99′S takes on the blog issues of the day:
JLH – Has flashed big play ability, but should have been cut immediately after gutless, brainless, backwards, run out of bounds punt return in Baltimore a few tears ago. Disgraceful, and showed his true lack of character and football intelligence.
Cable’s Play Calling, Coaching Ability – Hard to know for sure. W-L Record is certainly less than impressive. Play calling definitely suspect, but WTF could he have called that would have worked with the dumbest, most inaccurate QB in NFL history and an offensive line that can’t pass protect or gain a tough running yard ? The Kwame debacle leads one to believe he has difficulty recognizing OL ‘talent’, although he might be a good coach of the line as a unit. I am not a fan of the ZBS, but do think Cable has done a good job of managing the clock, using time-outs, and challenging official’s calls. Has shown the ability to get along and work well with Al. Hard worker that will put his nose to the grindstone in whatever capacity necessary but also able to delegate authority as required. Overall asessment: Certainly not a great Head Coach by conventional x/o standards, or by sideline presence, but just might be what the doctor ordered as caretaker of an Al Davis led franchise. Deserving of a chance to lead the Raids in 2010.

Outlook for 2010: The sky’s the limit, but doubts remain about this team’s ability to score points without the marked improvement of one of, if not the worst, OL in the NFL. Doesn’t seem as if enough has been done to rectify this area but without JaMoron sinking the ship, anything is possible.

Nothing gonna dampen my enthusiasm for this upcoming season. I said it awhile back. Reminds me of 1990. My Reds had been horrible for along time, then Larkin and their young talent came together and they won it all.
The Raiders had missed the playoffs for an unheard of 4 straight years. Went 12-4 under Shell and made it all the way to AFC Championship game.
This year Votto and young talent coming together. Still in 1st and gonna hold off Pujols and the Cards.
Yes, the Raiders are gonna win the west. And if history is any indicator, advance all the way to conf championship.
BTW, Brien..that was me that pointed out it’s the first year of a new decade. Raiders have to play in Conf Champ. game.

Got this running joke with the wife about non-other than Joey Votto.
We went to the Las Vegas exhibition game this year, Dodgers-Reds. Wife, not the biggest sports fan. It was freezing azz cold, and the only people she heard of, Manny and Rihannas’ boyfriend Matt Kemp, weren’t playing either.
She asked me why we are going? My response, somewhat tongue in cheek, “Joey Votto”. Of course she is like who the hell is that, but she thought he had a cool Italian (didn’t tell her he was Canadian). He goes 3-3, with a couple doubles and RBI’s, and she always remembers her name.
Now when I watch Sportscenter, and she is tuning out but hears his name, she goes “Hey Joey Votto!!”.
One day she is going to find out he isn’t Italian and be crushed, until than, my wife knows about 8 baseball players by name, and Joey Votto may be her favorite, lol.

I’m not comparing Campbell with Rich Gannon (YET) but the potential is there. When Gannon was at KC you could see he had all the tools to be an outstanding QB. His pickup by our beloved Raiders was perfect in that all the tools he needed were there. Tim Brown, a team that could run the ball, a solid defense and a new upcoming coach in Gruden. Put them all together and you had a solid team that got better every year, until “Fatass Tony” almost ripped Gannon hand from his joint. Then the neck/head injury the following year.
Cable is far from being a coach like Gruden. But, this looks like the first year he can obtain a winning record as a coach…it’s a step up for him. Sure we have some weaknesses, starting with the offensive line, but we seemed to have upgraded tremendously and the potential to be a good team is there. If everything can fall into place, no major injuries, etc., Campbell could turn into another Gannon. Ya, it might be a reach but it’s FUN DREAMING THE DREAM. Raiders 10-6 and division winners. Ya.

I don’t know Nnamdi. A cast could have it’s advantages in certain situations. Watch The America’s Game the ‘76 Raiders. They wore fake casts. And wielded them like Mohican War Clubs. Phil V.: “we had an assist. trainer who was a master of pads..most of them probably illegal”. LOL.

Raiders’ backup QB Gradkowski doesn’t act like one

His legend grew a week later when his season ended prematurely thanks to not one but both knees turned to spaghetti by Washington.
The fairy tale seemed to end with an offseason weightlifting accident that tore the tendon connecting his left pectoral muscle off the bone, and the arrival and naming of another man as the Raiders’ starting quarterback.
Make no mistake, though. While Bruce Gradkowski, who gave Oakland a semblance of hope last season, is in a battle against Charlie Frye and Kyle Boller to back up Jason Campbell, he still talks and acts as though he’s the man.
“Hey, Stan,” Gradkowski yelled at defensive back Stanford Routt while under center during 7-on-7 drills Thursday morning. “You in or out?”
A sheepish Routt was lingering about the field before the snap.
“Get off then,” Gradkowski barked, adding a dismissive wave before a grinning Routt obliged.
Gradkowski then hit Zach Miller with a bullet in front of Hiram Eugene for a 15-yard touchdown.
Not exactly what you’d expect from a backup, right?
It wasn’t the first time Gradkowski’s fire has been on display. In that last-minute, game-winning drive against the Steelers on Dec. 6, he got in his left tackle’s face in the huddle, telling Mario Henderson to quit looking at replays on the big screen.
“Shoot, that game was awesome,” Gradkowski said. “The only thing that would make that better is when it’s in the AFC championship (game) and we’re going to the Super Bowl after that win.
“That’s our goal around here. That’s what we’re reaching for, and we’re not going to settle for anything less. That’s the mind-set and that’s the attitude around here.”
Pretty lofty goals for a career journeyman who was 2-2 as a starter last season and is 5-11 in his career, no?
Maybe, but it’s that approach that has a different atmosphere enveloping the Raiders in camp. Even if Gradkowski masks the pain of not being able to compete for the starting job with Campbell being named the starter on the eve of training camp.”

Can’t believe actual football starts this weekend. Yes! Oughta be a pretty good HOF game too. Bungles vs. Pokes. I know the starters will only play a series or two, if at all. But still.
Raiders less than a week away vs those same Pokes. Oakland might be at a slight disadvantage. Dallas oughta look a little crisper, being their 2nd game and all. Still, Can’t wait.

Your point about the WR’s taking pressure off Miller is a valid one. I like the Raider WR’s. They are just young and unproven. The reports on DHB are very encouraging so far. But, as you’ve said before he needs to prove it when they start firing live ammo.

Chaz, Who I really like, and who has shown flashes of being very good in his limited action, is starting to worry me. The guy needs to show he can stay healthy. Some bodies just can’t withstand the rigors of pro football.
I hope his injuries are just a fluke thing that goes away. But, there is defenitely cause for alarm.

Former Florida Safety John Curtis, 24, Reportedly Commits Suicide

Former Florida safety John Curtis reportedly has committed suicide at age 24, according to the sports website http://www.onlygators.com.
Many former Gators and friends of Curtis have tweeted their respects.
One player who took to twitter right away was Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback, Joe Haden. Haden, the No. 7 pick in this year’s NFL draft who played with Curtis at Florida, tweeted, “U never know how much u truly love someone until they r gone!! R.I.P John Curtis #24! U will be missed!!!!”
Curtis was a special teams specialist during his time in Gainesville. He played on the Gators’ scout team in 2004, sat out 2005 with a knee injury, but was able to play for the team during their 2006 national championship season.
He saw action on kickoff return and punt teams in their title run.
In 2007, he blocked a punt against South Carolina but tore his ACL in 2008 that eventually ended his football career.
