Holland no longer on the roster

By Jon Becker
Sunday, August 8th, 2010 at 3:14 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver and kick returner Jonathan Holland is no longer an Oakland Raider. Although the Raiders haven’t yet clarified what the move was, Holland’s spot on the roster has been taken by quarterback Colt Brennan, who was signed Saturday.
Holland, who was last seen on crutches after suffering an ankle injury during camp, was awaiting results of an MRI on his ankle.
The Raiders’ 2007 seventh-round choice never caught a regular-season pass. He returned 29 kicks last season.
NOTE: There will be no in-practice updates from Jerry McDonald. Jerry, though, will have a complete practice report later this evening.

Buckeyeraider, The Raiders have at times had Richochets team in for a scrimmage, the niners, and as you mentioned, the Cowboys. Not sure why they havent this year, probably cuz we play Richochets team in reg season game.

Oh now how precious are you? lol

Peanut, have a wonderful work week, see Ya! ps Bri-n is right!!!!! out!

Anxious to see if and how much T.O. plays tonight.
Never been a big fan of the guy or anything. It’s water under the bridge now, but I kinda wish Al would’ve signed him. I agree with Jerry, it was almost a no lose situation.

At best, the guy is a self promoting goofball. At worst, a team chemistry killing, locker room cancer.
But, I think that was earlier in his career. I think the guy has grown up a little. He handled his exile to NFL Siberia without incident.

If the atmoshere in Oakland is indeed changing and the Raiders are competitive, I think TO would’ve bought right in. I think he would’ve welcomed the opportunity to make a successful return to the Bay area.

The Raiders have the speed to stretch the field. T.O. could’ve done the dirty work underneath. Given Campbell a big target underneath. I think maybe it was a missed opportunity, especially with Chaz’s injury concerns.

    Oh well.

One guy I want to keep an eye out for this preseason is the second year TE out of Iowa..Meyers. I thought he looked promising last preseason. I think it was against those samr niners. He was making plays all over the field. Some really nice catches.

The only action I remember him gettin in on during the season was, albeit a big one, was the play against the Bungles. Causing and recovering that late fumble on special teams. Don’t remember any snaps w/ the O.

The guy came out of the Big Ten with the rep of being a good blocker. Looks like he can catch too. Hopefully he steps up this preseason and pushes Tony Stewart. He and Miller would make a nice set of TE’s. Seems like Jerry hasn’t mentioned him much. Except for the scrape w/ everybody’s favorite nasty boy, Lamarr Houston.

VittorioTafur – Campbell throws beautiful rainbow deep but Schilens does not change gears and get it – probably still going a little easy on foot.

VittorioTafur – A lot of drops by receivers today; as for Schilens I think his timing is off as he’s still pulling back a little.

At what point do the Raiders need to consider cutting Schilens due to the fact he just cannot stay healthy enough to play and also have some chemistry with the offense? I love his skills and playmaking ability, but I’m just saying…

  • buckeyeraider

    Steve,
No way do I see them severing ties w/Chaz any time soon. The guy has looked very good, when he’s played. As a seventh rd pick he probably isn’t making that much money. If he can’t play, they’d probably stash him on IR and give him another year to try and get the foot fully healed.

I’m really pulling for this dude. He looks like a steal, if he can stay healthy. A big IF at this point.

  • Plunketthead

Tommy Kelly abused by Veldheer on play; he has not shown well so far at camp
    less than 10 seconds

  • MistaBrown

Im not 100% sold on Schilens. Our WR unit has been such garbage he was able to standout so its hard to say how good he is, add his injuries on top and who knows~! Put him on NO or Dallas does he even make their 53 man roster?

  • MistaBrown

At this point Murphy has a lot more potential than Schilens and if DHB gets off to a nice start id throw him into the same category. If JLH shakes off those hits Russell set him up for and J Ford comes up BIG Schilens cant hit the road!

  • MistaBrown

Batman and Robin. What a couple of clowns. The ambigously gay duo….SNL..

Tough call Mista. His body of work is so limited. I just remember those last two games of ’08, when Oak’s passing game actually looked competant. Buerlein did that Houston game and at the beginning was like Starting WR’s are who? But Schillens and JLH both played very well. Ditto the following week vs TB.

Obviously missed almost all of last year, but looked really good in finale vs. Balt. Was making some tough catches. Needs to stay healthy though.

  • MistaBrown

Did they just say W Philips lost weight on Nutri System? LMAO I couldn’t tell.

C Johnson & TO are two mental patients that deserve each other. I hope they go up in flames.

  • itzSteve

I’m still excited to see if Nick Miller can stay healthy and contribute. It seems every day that Vic and/or Jerry are always tweeting about a great catch Nick makes in practice. He would quickly become a fan favorite if he could come up with those catches in a game.

  • YoungAmerican

Tommy Kelly is an enormous waste of money and roster space. At some point the Raiders should give Dez Bryant a crack at Kelly’s position. At least Bryant is a young player with upside.

  • itzSteve

personally…I don’t think Kelly makes it out of camp this year…

  • MistaBrown

N Miller stayed on the roster last year and dint play a single down! He better have some serious skills we dont know about!

  • MistaBrown

    T Kelly = T Sands

  • YoungAmerican

I’d like to see Schilens contribute, but there are just some players that can never shake the injury bug. If he ever does, he could be a great one.

Patrick Crayton looking good in the HOF game. I still think we should make a move for him. Although as long as Dez Bryant (the Cowboys one) is out with an injury, the Cowboys might be hesitant to move Crayton.

  • itzSteve

I wouldn’t mind if the Raiders gave the Cowboys a late round pick for Crayton. It would definitely make it easier to cut ties with Band Aid boy Schilens…

  • YoungAmerican

From the camp updates it seems like Joe Porter keeps making plays. We picked him up off Green Bay’s practice squad, it would be awesome if he ends up being a contributor. Even if it’s just CB depth behind Routt and McFadden. Someone is bound to go down at some point this season…

It will come down to who is the better player on special teams…

  • YoungAmerican

I doubt they’d cut ties with Schilens this season because as a 7th rounder he’s not making much money at all. But Nick Miller, Jacoby Ford, JLH and Yamon Figurs are all very similar players, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of those guys not make the roster.

  • YoungAmerican

Haven’t seen Jeremy Ware’s name pop up at all, outside of that one rough practice the rookie CBs had. Here again, the press doesn’t have the best view of the field, but he might be practice squad fodder at best.

  • itzSteve

I think the Raiders will keep 6 WR: DHB, Schilens, Murphy, JLH, Ford, and either Miller or Watkins for the last spot. Figurs and the rest of the camp bodies will have a hard time making it.

  • YoungAmerican

If this is finally the year that Watkins doesn’t make the team, that’ll probably be a good sign for the rest of our receiving corps.

I’d like to see Patrick Crayton in there instead of Nick Miller, but hey, if Miller can really play I won’t complain.

  • YoungAmerican

I’d love to see our running backs corps look like this:

    RBs:
    Bush
    McFadden
    and trade for Marshawn Lynch

    FBs:
    Daniels or Tonga
Marcel Reece (H-back on passing downs?)

  • itzSteve

not having to carry Watkins as the extra WR last year due to the Schilens and Miller injuries enables us to keep an extra DB or LB for special teams which makes them better.

Would have been a possibility, now that bryant s injured he moe=ve to the number 3.

  • Thec07

    moves to no. 3

  • YoungAmerican

Word, at the very least the Cowboys would want a higher draft pick for him, which might not be worth it.

Marshawn Lynch is still being dangled out there, though…

  • YoungAmerican

A higher draft pick than they would have originally asked for, I should say.

    Hendu,

I agree. I think Miller will be he fav target.

Does this mean that Jason Campbell will get his #17?

    Our WRs:
    Chaz: can he stay healthy?
    Murphy: still developing
    DHB: still developing
JLH: had a bad season last year
    Ford: Rookie
N Miller: UDRFA who hasn’t done anything in a EEG seasn game. Unkown!
Watkins: he doesn’t do much, and should be cut

thats a fair eval of those players. I would like to see if Al could somehow pry Vincent Jackson from SD. Al loves players that would be extra motivated to perform against their old team that wouldn’t pay them.

Word. I don’t know how it would get done, but I’d love to see VJ in silver and black. He’s 6’5 and can run, which Big Al’s gotta love.

  • Just Fire Baby

Tafur says Brennan looks much smaller than his listed 6’3. The guy might get killed next week behind our 3rd string line.

Chaz is staying no matter because of his contract. Jeremy Ware might make more than him. Worst case for Chaz is IR.

  • buckeyeraider

Geno Atkins is looking pretty good for the Bungles tonight. I wanted to draft Iupati this year. Atkins gave him fits at the Senior bowl. Guy looks like a quick inside penetrator ala Sapp.

Not liking what is being reported about T Kelly at all. Guy is getting paidbig bucks, and needs to step it up.

  • itzSteve

The reality is that we only have a 7th Rd. pick invested in this guy. He is only a WR with potential who now has a history of getting injured by tripping over the lines on a football field. Most 7th Rd. picks are a reach to make a NFL team anyways. Upside will only take you so far…

  • YoungAmerican

As good as this draft was, I’ll never understand passing on NT Cam Thomas so many times…

  • aig-raiders

    T Kelly is done unfortunately.

  • J Wiggle

personally…I don’t think Kelly makes it out of camp this year…

    —————————————————–

    Really?

Who steps up and takes his place?

I assume you’ll go with Seymour, Henderson, and Bryant?

    Who’d #4?

Heard is out, hasn’t been heard from.

Is it William Joseph finally living up to his 1st rd pick potential.

    Chris Cooper?

I think Kelly makes the 53 man roster.

    ____________________

Because as soon as we drafted Houston, that enables us to move Seymour inside which is a way better option. The has to be a reason Thomas fell as far as he did. He will wind up starting for the Chargers only because there is no one there but him. He are gonna abuse him the regular season.
