Link for practice updates

Heading out to practice, updates can be found on my Twitter page.

No before practice on the status of lineabcker Rolando McClain, as teammates Thomas Howard and Quentin Groves offered prayers of support on their Twitter pages. Raiders officals are aware of the posts by Howard and Groves, but had no comment.

These are the changes that MUST be made
in order to win the division… C,RG,RT,WR,NT

Center – Samson Satele plays more like Delilah week after week. He sucks, sucks again, and then sucks some more. We will not win the division with him as the center. We must get Mawae. He is experienced and is leaps and bounds over Satele. Veldheer can be groomed to take this spot but needs time to learn defenses and call out protections. But even as of now, he is better than Satele.

RG – Carlisle’s age is listed as 33 but he plays like he’s 53. Father time has passed him by. It’s time for him to go and try to get a job as an analyst somewhere, so at least we can have one supporter on one of these sports talk shows. Start Bruce Campbell at right guard. Yeah he’s a little unsure of himself, but when I see Carlisle, all I’m SURE of is that he sucks.

RT – Langston Walker. He’s been here before and keeps being brought back. Kinda like remarrying your ex wife 2 or 3 times. HE cannot handle the quick, agile Defensive ends coming around the corner. The best I saw Walker play was at RG last year, later on in the season. Unfortunately we don’t have an answer on our roster right now. A trade for a RT needs to happen to truly dominate our division the way SD has the past few years. I keep hearing Gaither’s name mentioned but what’s the real status on his health?

WR – We need a true, wide receiving threat. Bottom line is Murphy is the best receiver on our roster right now, straight up. Everybody else is a big question mark. Schillens, Heyward Bey, Higgins, Miller, Ford, Figurs…all these guys are question marks. Murphy needs to start and the rest of the guys need to step up now or be replaced.

NT – Kelly over the past 5 years has played more like a girl named Kelly for the majority of the time, and that’s probably an insult to the chick. Henderson needs to start and bring Kelly in on passing downs. Seymour and Henderson in the middle WILL stop the run. Otherwise, we will move from 29th against the run to 24th this season.

We do those things, we win the AFC West this year.

Doesn’t appear that Rolando McClain is present at practice . . . probably, nothing definitive until Cable briefing after practice.

Now to make it to the Super Bowl…After we make the above mentioned changes, we need a CB and a fullback.

Chris Johnson – Good ole CJ. The guy who was anointed the starter only because Deangelo Hall sucked so bad that since CJ did leaps and bounds better that Hall, he was immediately plugged in opposite Nnamdi. CJ is one of those Giveth and Taketh Away type corners. He’ll take away a big play on 1st down, and then give it right back on 3rd down. Miles Austin victimized him on Thursday, and the bottom line is that he’s okay, but he gives up too many big plays. He’s not a championship caliber Corner. He was a stop gap.

Fullback – Cable needs to truly open this thing up and let the best man play. Whether that’s Tonga or Daniels or Reece, or Lawton, it’s still too early to tell. But I’m favoring Tonga or Daniels in this one. Let these guys get the reps as starters and see how they play. If the status quo starters were all that great, we wouldn’t even be having this convo now would we?

*Safety – I’m gonna go ahead and mention this because we need to determine if Mitchell or Branch needs to start with Huff. Mitchell looks to be having a little difficulty with Tight Ends across the middle, but I really think he just needs a little more time and reps while he’s healthy.

We make all these changes and we will be in the Super Bowl. Estimated time, 2 and a half years. January 2013, Superbowl Champions.

  • ArmChair GM

But we will be improved from last year. Stop getting your panties in a bunch over one pre season game, when Dallas has had two, and they didn’t look any better than we did.

Cable playing the best players that we currently have on our roster will determine if we win the division this year, or at least, legitimately contend for it.

The defense will be fun to watch though, regardless. A lot of opposing QB’s will be eating dirt this season.

  • DirtyRaccoon

Looks like Gradkowski, Frye still out. McFadden still out . . . Murphy riding exercise bike.,Chaz with receivers with helmet. Shorts, shells

  • JB

DMac still out. So what else is new? DMac IS the 2nd coming – the 2nd coming of Schilens!

  • ArmChair GM

McClain has a sick family member.

  • Didn’t Mitchell try to return to quickly with hammy issues last year? Thus, causing him to miss half the season or so…

If D-Mac isn’t ready to go by the 3rd. pre-season game, then maybe he is a puss…I’ll wait just a bit longer….

Seems reasonable. Hope Nick “The Quick” Miller gets more playing time this next game. He just seems to have a way of getting things going. A lot of energy, great hands and outstanding concentration. Maybe he can tutor & motivate DHB.

Media may get Hue Jackson a cake. Today makes 200 days since offensive coordinator was hired and not been allowed to talk to reporters

    Not allowed?

Ever think he may not be champing at the bit to speak with the media.

Sick of hearing reporters who’ve hated on the Raiders whine because Davis won’t offer up Hue.

    Why would he?

  • MM34 was in or near most plays from yesterdays NFL game viewing, kid reads real well, give the kid a chance…….god……

  • EMRaiders

To those of you who may be interested and who like fantasy football. I just started a league on NFL.com. The league name is “World Wide League” with an autopick set for Sept. 1st. There’s room for 10 more teams. It is a 12 team league. It is open for anyone to join, so feel free to do so if you so desire!

It is all for free and for good ol’ fun!

  • J Grove is playing 2nd team with Miami. We should sign him, if they cut him.
Satele is not the answer at C, and Morris should be cut. Satele should be our backup for now.

  • Agree O…

  • JB

Baseball needs a shorter season. I’m tired of seeing a good football game compromised because of the infield dirt. The beginning of the football season should be the end of the baseball season.

  • JB, america’s game would go to Jan is it was let to, be happy with what we got, lol

  • if

  • JB, it’s called a grid-iron for just that purpose!

    I agree with the former.

Baseball may have been (Past tense) America’s game. No longer. NFL Football is now the king and will remain so for our lifetimes.

Baseball is a game for Puzzies.

But DMac is not a mudder. LOL

  • JB isn’t a Red Sox fan…..Lmao…All good!

  • Rajai Davis is from my hometown.

You have a very famous moniker – probably the BEST ALL TIME tight end in Raider history. And, that’s saying a lot when you think about Billy Cannon, Raymond Chester, Dave Casper, etc.

He was a great conversion from RB to TE. Maybe they ought to do the same with DMAC except to slot WR.

  • JB

gotta run. see you guys later.

  • JB, never saw a Raider give so much, so banged up, nothing but respect for this Guy, nothing but respect!

  • BigTed707

PHI put up nearly 500 yards on JAX – I guess my boy Morrison hasn’t solved their defensive woes yet. SMH

  • YoungAmerican

Mitchell running with the first team some. Good idea. Huff looked lost out there against the Dallas receivers. Let’s see if Mitchell can do his best Assassin impression against Da Bears on Saturday.

  • YoungAmerican

    Biggest needs:

C (sign Mawae, let him be a mentor to Veldheer and Satele)
OT (Jared Gaither can play both sides of the line, and could probably be snagged for a late-round pick…)
CB (unless Walter McFadden can make a push for CJ’s job)
WR (a veteran presence would go a long way…)
FS (time to see if Mitchell or Branch can make the conversion)
    RB (Marshawn Lynch, anyone?)
FB (Pick up whichever FB the Jets cut… Tony Richardson could be a great locker room presence)

  • BigTed707

I hate seeing the ‘dolts score so easily – hope our Def looks better than the bears’ v. SD starters…

  • YoungAmerican

As a Chicagoan, I’ve seen the Bears’ defense play a lot. The truth is they’re just not that good. The linebackers are aging, the defensive line isn’t as dominant anymore (notice how they can’t get pressure on Rivers) and the secondary is questionable. Then there’s the fact that the Tampa 2 is the most vanilla defense around, and if you have a decent quarterback who can read zones and some speed at WR, you can usually pick apart those soft zones.

It’ll be interesting seeing how Mario Henderson matches up against Peppers, and how our interior linemen match up against Tommy Harris and Mark Anderson. Hopefully Campbell will look better against a secondary that simply isn’t as good as the Cowboys’ secondary.

  • aig-raiders

hmmm….MM34 is now running with first team. Interesting.

  • Titans first team looked sharp and marched down the field against Seagulls.

  • ArmChair GM

Gaither has a tear in his back. Expected to miss 2-3 weeks.

Would be a good idea to package a trade for him and play him at Right Tackle.

Then get Mawae to play center and groom Veldheer to eventually take over the center spot.

Move Langston Walker inside to Right Guard to replace Cooper Carlisle and have Bruce Campbell back up Walker.

Instant line improvement addressing all 3 positions of need on the o-line, and allows us to have a reasonable chance to compete for the division this season.

  • aig-raiders

    Not bad armchair. not bad.

  • 504 Raider

    43 and 44,
Are you guys mental? Trade for a less than motivated Tackle with a bad back? There is a reason why Jerry hasn’t had a sniff of info to throw at us regarding Gaither or Troy Smith rumors/should get to the Raiders. Hue Jackson got more info on both those cats and there has been nothing regarding them coming our way.

  • 504 Raider

Now I’m all for us going after Mawae to play center. Satele is going to get all of our QBs on the field if he continues to start.

  • 504 Raider

I’ll reserve judgement on the rest of the line because I’m sure Cable knows more about O-Line than any of us do, therefore I trust (hope) that he will fix the issues. But it’s clear as day that Satele busts up our offense because the DTs keep pushing him backwards or getting around him.
