Sunday practice update link

Will have news and notes this evening following press briefing from coach Tom Cable and player availability. The Raiders are scheduled to have a double session Monday at 8:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m.

After watching the game a 2nd time I like Yamon Figurs we need to take a good look at him, since he plays ST they can even cut Watkins in favor of Figurs for all I care.
Nick Miller didnt get his left foot down on the TD but nice catch and throw from KB.
I haven’t seen anybody mention L Murphy’s alligator arms on that pass over the middle. If that was DHB he would be getting blasted for that!
Did D Bryant play? Shaunessy and Houston are going to be players.

Watching replay on NFLN. These Cowboy’s announcers are garbage. They only know the QB and the HC for Oakland. Everything else is Cowboy this Cowboy that ..yadayadayada.
And we were too hard on DHB. That broken up pass didn’t look like you can completely blame him for it. He was open, the pass came, which could have been a little late, and the defender recovered to make a good play on the ball.
What was more clear was that was the ONLY time his number was called all 3 series. You can tell because of where Campbell was looking. Still DHB was getting open even as he wasn’t the primary WR.
We have to withhold judgement on this kid. He definitely has gotten bigger. Dude’s Fitzgerald size now. On one route (when Campbell missed ZM on the 4th down conversion – he and ZM both ran slants) DHB muscled his man to the outside and came back in – open. Got all into his chest – phyical.
We all know he works hard and has a good head. Lets hope he breaks out this year. (Yet, he probably has but we didn’t get to see it).

Overall impressed with the front 7 play. They all swormed the ball.

Terrapin I said the same thing right after the game ended. There’s plenty of time for DHB to show he’s a bum but that time is NOT after 1 pre-season game! You saw Murphy short arm that pass over the middle ?

Report: Dez Bryant “likely” has high ankle sprain

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that the injury suffered by Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant toward the end of Friday’s practice is “likely” a high ankle sprain. Bryant is scheduled for an MRI on Friday night.
Cowboys executive V.P. Stephen Jones expressed optimism when asked about the injury earlier in the day, but league sources tell MacMahon that the damage to Bryant’s ankle is significant.
Bryant was the talk of spring practices and the start of training camp, and will lose momentum if he’s sidelined for 2-4 weeks. The injury also likely means that Roy Williams’ starting job is safer.

terrapin is back!! i dont bother watching the nfl replay since i recorded the game but ive heard that the cowgirls announcers are horrible. we have to make getting dhb the ball a priority from here on out.that damn cc and satele just suck in the middle. i would rather see v and bc get some 1rst team reps this week. we also need to run with a fullback more cuz its just disgusting trying to run behind this oline without a lead blocker. the defense really kicked ass and people are to hard on cj.

I saw it. It looked like he got another concussion or at least dizzed.
Satele almost got JCampbell injured too. When he got beat his man came down on Campbell low and on the shin. It could have been bad.

If DHB is catching balls in practice I dont mind him doing very little in the pre-season. Last year he was dropping @ practice so I trust the reports of him looking much improved. However game 1 he better be involved and taking care of business!

I don’t know why, but I like Routt. He can be the guy but he’s just not “in” it or maybe not getting it. Its unforntunate because I think he can be better than Johnson – who routinely gets burnt at the most inopportune time (twice on 3rd and long vs the Cowboys).

Last year Johnson got burnt plenty. He may have had his INTs but he gave up plenty as well.
The presence of Routt and what he can be is why each year the coaching staff keeps putting that position up for open competition between the two. They want Routt to take it! He just won’t do it. He may never get it. I don’t know.

tr richo is a d-bag which is why i dont get in to it with him. he tried with me awhile ago but i wasnt havin it. dude cj doesnt get beat like routt tho. that 1rst catch on 3rd n 12 was just a great throw and catch from romo to austin. how many 2nd cbs are better than cj? routt has been given every opportunity so what does that tell us? i have a problem with nammdi not covering on 3rd down to begin with. the best db should cover the best wr especially on 3rd dwns. thats a coaching error.

Calling for Routt to be cut without a better option is insane. C Johnson has been getting toasted on a reg basis! These clowns focus on Routt because Al drafted him so they want a pro bowler in return. Routt is our 2nd best DB in a tie with C Johnson, deal with it!

Nick Miller’s TD was the correct call. After his foot came down in bounds his ankle and shin on the same leg also came in before he landed out of bounds.
Weird rule, but it says that once the foot comes down, another part of the same leg can touch and even though the other foot doesn’t come down, it’s a catch. That’s the NFL for you. At least we got the call for a change.

I hope DHB breaksouts this year. I sick of hearing these announcers calling him down and laughing at the Raiders for drafting him. It’s usually in their 3rd year WRs breakout anyways … so what’s the problem?

Nick Miller’s TD was the correct call. After his foot came down in bounds his ankle and shin on the same leg also came in before he landed out of bounds.
Weird rule, but it says that once the foot comes down, another part of the same leg can touch and even though the other foot doesn’t come down, it’s a catch. That’s the NFL for you. At least we got the call for a change.

Getting DHB up and running this preseason has to be the number 1 priority if he is going to be starter.
He started 12 NFL games, played in the preseason last year…and has 1 preseason game in 2010 under his belt and we STILL don’t know if he is capable of just being serviceable.
JHill said it best….”design some short crossing routes”…and I will throw in a screen or two to just get this guy catching passess against someone NOT in the Silver n Black…..

Just… Curious, but why does everyone dislike Watkins, from Jerry Tweets and pre-saesons of the past he seems like one of the few receivers who actually catches the ball. Do not get me wrong, I wish the other receivers with the Pedigrees and speed would step up, but the guy does not seem to get a legit chance?

Started to put him on my list, but I thought Ford would get the last spot based on him being drafted. We spent a lot of time developing him, and he is productive when he is in there.
I REALLY like the sparkplugs Nick Miller and JLH. They have the ability to hit big plays and quick strikes.
We pretty much know that Schillens, DHB, and Murphy are locks, so that just leaves Watkins and Ford battling it out for the 6th spot.

(QB)- Grads beats out Boeller for #2
(RB)- McFadden’s actually ‘penciled’ in as the starter but Bush gets the real work
(FB)- Lawton gets the axe
(WR)- Agreed. But they will have to provide justification for DHB first so expect more throws his way
(OG) – You are riske’! You think they’ll cut CC? No way. More like Gallery, CC, Campbell with possibly another
(C) – Satele starts the season, Veldheer finishes

I would like to see Veldheer get a series with the one’s this week or next.
But not real fair to judge Veldheer going against guys HOPING to make a practice squad and Satele going against Pro Bowler Jay Ratliff.

Or CC starts the season and Campbell finishes. Either or can and probably will happen. I predict rotation within the season in the middle of the line; but having Campbell and Veldheer start the season given they are both in brand new positions is a stretch for any coach to take that risk.

The thing about starting Campbell and Veldheer has more to do with how bad Satele and Carlisle are.
There’s going to be a learning curve and some rookie issues, but there would also be some “issues” with Satele and Carlisle.
I guess the question is which set of problems would you rather deal with? At least with the rookies, we have a physical advantage.

I’m saying I don’t think the COACHES will actually do that. To cut a starter? If that were to happen we would be seeing the tea leaves by the second pre-season game and most definitely by the third. I just don’t see that happening. CC sticks.
Last year, someone started in front of Satele (maybe Morris?) becuase Cable believed Satele didn’t have the system down – i.e. he was new. Eventually Satele started but not right away. Again, I just don’t see the coaches taking that action at center.
Nor guard for that matter – even though I think it should be easier to do.
