Kelly, Routt remain part of grand plan
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 16th, 2010 at 2:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.
When the Raiders decided to spend a guaranteed $18.125 million on defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, no one was more surprised than Kelly himself.
When the Raiders dropped a first- and third-round tender on cornerback Stanford Routt, probably the only person who didn’t think it was out of line was Routt himself.
Kelly still has a penchant for jumping offsides at his new position at nose tackle and hasn’t been conspicuous in terms of blowing up running plays or rushing the passer.
Routt still has the classic look and speed of a Raiders corner, and breaks up the occasional pass as he did Monday during a 7-on-7 session defending Yamon Figurs. But entering his sixth season, Routt hasn’t established himself in the way his tender would suggest.
Unless the Raiders are simply sending out disinformation, get ready for a lot more of Kelly and Routt. Coach Tom Cable referred to Kelly’s work against the middle of the Raiders defense as “iron sharpening iron,’’ with the quality of play improving both sides.
Cable proclaimed Routt a contender to start with Chris Johnson opposite Nnamdi Asomugha, and talked of his improved professionalism Monday.
“I think there’s been a change in Stan in terms of how he works at it and the intensity that he’s working at it with,’’ Cable said. “It’s just like everybody, you want to see it carry over to the game, but I’ve been very pleased with him thus far.”
If you want to fall into the old Raiders cliché of players looking good coming off the bus, Kelly and Routt are Exhibit A and Exhibit B.
Kelly was discovered as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State, Routt a second-round draft pick out of Houston, where he was a sprinter as well as a cornerback.
Kelly is fine with moving to nose tackle, making room at the three-technique spot for Richard Seymour, saying, `We’re both going to get doubled, we’re both going to get chipped.’’
In a lively interview with a few reporters, Kelly was equal parts amusing and candid, allowing he was overweight last season _ “I was carrying a baby in my stomach’’ and embarrassed by having only one sack in 16 games.
(The baby, in this case would have well exceeded the largest human birth on record, because Kelly lost 35 pounds).
The sacks total tied Kelly’s career low in 2007 _ when he missed nine games after a torn ACL ended his season.
“I had to look in the mirror at the end of the season and ask, `Is it them, or is it you?,’ ‘’ Kelly said. “I can’t point my finger on them . . . I just gotta handle me. In the offseason, I’m going to try and get myself back in the best shape I can so they won’t have nothing to say.’’
Kelly came to the Raiders as a 295 pound end and said he got as high as 340 following ACL surgery. He hovered in that range last year.
It was a topic of conversation among offensive linemen, who wondered within their position group what Kelly’s weight would be when he got to camp as far back as OTAs.
“Some guys were like, `He might be 345 or 350, somewhere around there,’’ guard Khalif Barnes said. “But when he came in, the guy looked great . . . he’s looking slimmer, still strong and has that get-off.’’
Kelly said he arrived at OTAs at 315 pounds as opposed to 350 a year ago.
After practice Monday, he was doing squats with weights that looked like bowling balls with oversized handles, and later was seen working his arms with two heavy ropes that looked to have a circumference of eight inches each. He’s also doing boxing drills, the better to slap offensive linemen attempting to get a hand on him.
So instead of getting bigger to play nose tackle _ the position is traditionally occupied by players who look like fire hydrants _ Kelly slimmed down.
“You got to know your own skill-set,’’ Kelly said. “It’s kind of obvious after last year that I can’t play with that much weight and be the best kind of player I can be. You got to do what’s best and what fits you. I’m strong enough and tough enough to play the nose, so I’m not even worried about it.’’
At the time Kelly signed his contract, which topped out at $50.5 million over seven years, he it was the biggest deal ever for a defensive tackle. Considering he was coming off an ACL tear and not coming off a Pro Bowl or anything close to it, it came as a shock.
It came as part of the spending spree which also brought in Javon Walker, Gibril Wilson and a trade and new contract for DeAngelo Hall.
“The night my agent called me, I was like, `What the (bleep)!,’’ Kelly said. “It was a surprise to me, but you’ve just got to take the challenge.’’
Routt, on the other hand, said he expected the first- and third-round tender which will pay him $3.268 million _ a hefty figure for a player who has just four starts in the last two years and 31 overall in 95 games.
“I really wasn’t surprised, based on the longterm deal we were negotiating at the time,’’ Routt said.
Routt didn’t know exactly what to make of Cable’s suggestion that he has an improved attitude.
“I appreciate the kind words, but in my opinion, my approach hasn’t changed,’’ Routt said. “I just go out every day to get better, and whatever happens, happens.’’
More news and notes:
—Updates for the second session can be found on my Twitter page, but won’t be available Tuesday or Wednesday. I’ve been farmed out for two days as a sub to cover the 49ers.
Steve Corkran will handle blog items in my absence.
-– RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) did not practice, nor did WR Paul Hubbard (hamstring), TE Tony Stewart (undisclosed), QB Charlie Frye (wrist), LB Sam Williams (concussion), and DE Jay Richardson (knee).
WR Jacoby Ford (quad) and WR Chaz Schilens (foot) did not practice in the padded session but Cable said they would work in the afternoon session.
Frye and Richardson are scheduled to see specialists.
– Practice began with a live goal line session with the offense at the 2-yard line. Jason Campbell fumbled the snap back to the 4, but the offense scored in two plays with Alex Daniels carrying 3 yards to the 1 and Michael Bush scoring the touchdown, breaking the tackle of Rolando McClain at the goal line.
– McClain and Sebastian Janikowski returned to practice after missing two sessions each for personal issues. McClain declined comment following practice.
– Bush left the field house carrying a box with a brand new bowling ball. A grudge match with fellow pinmeister Mario Henderson, perhaps?
“I don’t know, but if it happens, I’m ready,’’ Bush said.
– Center Samson Satele victimized for a sack of Campbell by Junior Siavii against the Cowboys, was willing to fall on the sword.
“Just go off of what you saw,’’ Satele said. “If it’s me it’s me. It is what it is. It’s preseason.’’
– Judging from the way reps were distributed, Bruce Gradkowski stepped back into his backup role ahead of Kyle Boller.

Mistic, first off, the 2002 Raiders were an offensive team. They were not a defensive team. Whatever complimentary defensive stats they had that year were due to an offense that was nearly unstoppable for most of the season. Noting Rod Woodson’s huge interception in the Denver game, I’d still submit that we did not in ONE GAME in 2002 because of our defense. Woodson’s pick was the spark that ignited a reawakening of our offense.
Back to the Giants, and Woodson, for this matter. It was Rod Woodson who said on ESPN a couple of years ago that NOBODY in the NFL runs man as much as the Raiders do. Should I believe you over him, and why?

Lefty, thanks for the correction. The Detroit Lions are the worst NFL team since 2003, with the Raiders one game behind. I think I made this mistake before, too. But I think I also mentioned that at least the Lions hired a new GM. The Raiders have made no moves as far as the front office goes.

Did Al Davis over pay for kelly, yes but Davis philosophy has always been spend the money and get the guy you want.
===========================
Sure, Antonio, here’s a 50 mil contract…I WANT YOU.
Gabril? Oh dude, I really WANT YOU AS WELL…here’s 35 mil.
Javon? You spray expensive champagne..I WANT YOU, TOO…how much? 55 mil? That’s all? sure,..no problem.
Kwame? Are you still the worst tackle in the league? You are?..I STILL WANT YOU..how’s 10 mil contract sound?
Kelly? Torn ACL? Defense improved from 5.2 ypc to 4.7 after you went out with your ACL? MAKES SENSE TO ME…HERE’S 50 MIL FOR YOU, TOO.
Yeah, when Al wants someone, he throws bushels of money at them.
Problem is it’s obvious these players aren’t worth the contracts Al offers, and even worse is that Al changes his mind shortly after deciding this player is “the answer”.
*****************************************************
I said that Davis spends the money on the guys he wants, I didnt say it always works out well. You cant have it both ways, ask yourself would you rather have a model like the browns, or cradinals, where they dont pay players? At least Davis has the balls to pull the trigger, very much like jerry jones, steinbrenner, and others. This is why we rarely have people hold out for money. This is also why people are willing to come to the silver and black evnthough we havent been winning.
==============================================
Yeah, you CAN HAVE IT BOTH WAYS…what are you babbling about?
You’re saying you can’t choose to pay out money to quality players, THAT DESERVE IT, while not throwing wasted money at players who likely shouldn’t even be signed?
Makes no sense.
Walker had just had an acl…DID NOT DESERVE A CONTRACT, much less a 50 mil contract. As it turned out, Al blew it.
Antonio Hall was massively overpaid. Just when he started to get the scheme, Al releases him, after having paid him a mil a game.
Gabril Wilson gets massive contract, then is released after a year.
Kwame gets a 10 mil contract, and is benched..
See where this is going?
No, you do NOT HAVE TO THROW STUPID MONEY OUT THERE…and “players are willing to come to the Silver and Black’?? lol…what planet are you from?
Even when huge bucks are thrown at players, they don’t want to come (See Seymour)..drafted players don’t want to sign..(See Crabtree).
What you’re saying is if you massively OVERPAY A PLAYER THEN THEY WILL GLADLY TAKE YOUR MONEY TO THE BANK, EVEN THOUGH THEY AREN’T PRODUCING?
Of course they will…see MOSS.
You don’t have a clue. Borrow $5 and see if you can buy one.

Interesting article from the Redskins perspective:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2010/08/jason_campbells_preseason_raid.html
Jason Campbell’s preseason Raiders debut
(By Sharon Ellman – AP)
This will probably be a running bone of contention between me and you all season. You think Jason Campbell is a real gentleman who was treated poorly by the Redskins in all sorts of ways. You’re hoping for him to excel in Oakland to prove the Redskins wrong. You think all he needs is a little stability and trust, and that he can excel in the NFL, even in the Black Hole.
Me, I think Campbell was a real gentleman, a great friend to the media, a gem in the community and a genuine role model. But I also think he was a below-average NFL quarterback who held the Redskins back for years.
I’ve never been able to forget the way the offense took off the year he was injured and Todd Collins took over, or his 20-32 record as a starter. So I figure he’ll struggle horribly in Oakland, and Donovan McNabb will pretty much immediately end any Campbell nostalgia.
Anyhow, Jason Campbell made his Oakland debut last night. Sure, it was a preseason game, but dang if it didn’t feel awfully familiar. He was 7-of-13 for 49 yards and a passer rating of 62.7. His offense produced a total of 0 points when he was on the field, through the first series of the second quarter. The reviews were decidedly meh, like this one, from the San Jose Mercury News:
It didn’t take much imagination to convince yourself that you were watching the 2009 Raiders offense. Under Campbell’s guidance, the Raiders managed only 68 yards and four first downs on four drives without scoring any points.
And yet Campbell remained optimistic, talking about a deep pass that was caught out-of-bounds, for example.
“We missed it by a half-step,” Campbell said. “That shows you there is a reason to be confident about things.”
That sounds familiar, too. But go ahead. Draft him in your fantasy league. Bet on the Vegas over of six Raiders wins. Keep calling me a hater. I can take it.
August 16th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Stanford Routt gets burned more than microwave popcorn. He is usually the guy getting burned for big yardage in the highlight reel. He has sucked BAD up til now and his tender offer was insanity. If he improves well enough to start opposite Nnamdi, I will eat my words, but I am confident that he is still the worst cover corner in football. He sucks.
Tommy Kelly doesn’t suck to the degree that Routt does, but I don’t think he will ever play to the level that justifies the amount of money he is making. He should be a shoo-in to the Pro Bowl every year for that kind of bank and he ain’t even close. That having been said, I think he can still prove to be a valueable asset on D where Routt is a liability every time he steps onto the field.
August 16th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Man DC sucks. You couldn’t pay me to live here.
Was a lot more fun years back, or so I remember.
Anyways, good to see Bruce set to get some game action this weekend. Should, at the very least, help judge both Campbell and Boller.
Talked to some hardcore ‘Skins fans today over lunch (co-workers). Talked about Campbell, and the general consensus is that they liked JC, but very happy to have Donovan.
One guy told me he was pissed we got Rock Cartwright. Said he was a guy who could take a kickoff back 50 yards, come in on 3rd down packages and pickup the blitz, than go make the tackle on the ensuing punt/kickoff.

Cable responds when asked about how Routt is doing…
“I have been very pleased with him in camp. I think there has been a change in Stan with his intensity and how he works at it, and it is like everybody, you want to see it carry over to the game but I have been very pleased with him thus far”.

4th and 1; good call, not good execution. Had the pass been caught Hue Jackson would have been praised to no end in here for thinking outside the box and everybody would be talking about what a breath of fresh air he brought to the team. About how his creativity would take us to new heights, how all of our weapons would all of a sudden become the scourge of the NFL, and questions would start to arise as to how far we could go in the playoffs.
You know, the normal reactions to a single play or two in the first preseason game.

you’re so full of crap man it’s coming out of your ears, He said nothing about his play being horrible. He said he should’ve been in better shape to play at his best. Big difference than saying you’re horrible. He had 1 sack out of the 3tech position anyone who saw him could tell he was way too heavy. When he played at 305 he was dominant. Last year it seems he played at 340 that’s almost 50 lbs heavier than a 3tech should be. Normally a 3tech should 290-300 and disruptive. Seymour right now IMO is playing a bit heavy for that position Des Bryant is more the coreect size.

I think it shows poor judgement on Hue Jackson and Tom Cable’s part to not make sure DHB catches a pass or two. Don’t want to over react to one preseason game. In the bigger scheme of things, it won’t mean a thing. In a couple of weeks it will all be forgotten.
However, when your controversial top 10 pick had the nightmare rookie season he had, and you’ve spent all offseason talking up how much better he looks. Even going so far as to put out a bizzare press release after one OTA. You might want to throw more than one pass his way. Get the guy involved.
Set the tone right away, this is going to be a new year.

As for the passing game, the most important skill is moving the chains. Forget the downfield stuff for a while. That’s not going to happen until this offense demonstrates and ability to protect the passer, complete the short throws and run the ball.
^^^^^^^^
MOVING THE CHAINS and sustaining drives is VERY important, because it will also keep the defense fresh!
August 16th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
It’s nice to hear Raider fans talking about moving the chains, long drives, keeping the defense rested….getting back to the type of system we had when Gruden was here, and that Kiffin was at least trying to implement. Of course, I just hope Al Davis has the same ideas. So far, haven’t seen it.

Tommy Kelly has done such a good job that despite facing constant double teams, he was the NFL’s 14th most productive of all D-linemen, including defensive ends.
Of all NFL defensive tackles, he was the fourth most productive.
Based on production, Tommy Kelly is the best player on the Raiders D-line. Yes, even better than Richard Seymour and Trevor Scott.

In fairness to Hue and Cable, they tried to go to DHB on the very first pass of the preseason.
DHB didn’t come back to the ball very well, and JC threw it way late, and it was almost picked 6 on THE VERY FIRST PLAY, lol!!
Kind of glad they scrapped it from there.

JHill,
TK said it himself “I was carrying a baby in my stomach’’ and embarrassed by having only one sack in 16 games.”
He had a poor year last year and didn’t live up to his expectations. He’s gotta step up and be the boss this year. He’s the last piece of the front 7 that was here for most of the run defenseless era.
No excuses for my boy TK, this is his year to shine. He’s given birth and he’s motivated.
Time to shine
August 16th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
There is no need to be delusional and getting Raider fans hopes up by saying that JC is the next Plunkett.
The old man Al is just talking out of his azz.
No need for comparisons to other past great players.
Just let the players be their own men and try and build their own football legacy.

August 16th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
I was impressed with some things in Campbell, quick release, strong arm, perfect spiral all the time (really does throw a beautiful ball).
But the same thing that has bugged him was still present. The “just missing” of things. He has been “just missing” things for over 50 starts now. And the quickness to take what the defense gives him on 3rd down. On the 3rd down pass to Zack Miller that was 5 yards short of the sticks was him in a nutshell. Dallas rushed 4, he had a beautiful pocket to step into a throw, had nobody around him…..and gave-in and completed a two yard pass. You can do that occasionally, but you can’t do that all the time.

So what if TK gets moved backwards 2 yds from time to time? The other guys are getting paid too.
TK got moved back 2 yds on the sweep play to Barber and some people lost their frickin minds. Never mind that the play only gained 3 yds, lol!

The whole league is on to Al Davis’s strategy, he’s been doing it for years. Revis’s agent is using the Raiders’ salaries as leverage right now. If, worst case scenario, Revis holds out into the season, the Jets are improving so much elsewhere that the team still improves from last year, even with Revis’s loss. Jets are going nowhere but up. That’s how the good teams in the league deal with Al’s strategy. They don’t rely on one player.

I almost want Campbell to think of himself as not a 65% passer.
In this offense, if he is completing 65% of his passes, he will be taking the 3 yard checkdown on 3rd and 8, and completing those meaningless two yards passed to the FB.
FCK all that, chuck it down the field. I don’t see many 11 plays 83 yard drives from this team anyways, so try to get big chunks and heave it or hope for a PI call.

Well, also remember that the interior of the line was the problem too.
Seymour is now the 3-tech, signed Henderson and put Money Warren on the road to a backup spot with New England.
TK is being given one last shot at the NT position.
I still think TK is the weak link based on his own self-admitted poor play last year.
Let’s hope he can push that pocket and occupy those blockers so Rolondo McClain doesn’t bust out too!

DTs don’t make tackles 5 yds down the field. TKs tackles were at or near the line of scrimmage.

Sounds like the offense that was run by another ex-Redskin QB name Schroeder many years ago.
That’s not going to win man. they have to complete those short and intermediate throws to move the chains. The passing offense has to get to at least “serviceable”
Relying on deep chucks down the field will just result in 53% completion percentages and 12 points a game

JHill,
TK admitted he wasn’t up to standard last year. If he steps up his game and plays to his “ability” then this team can shine.
I’ve said this about a lot of Raider players of late. They are paid to be superstars and many times are just average (on their very best day) and just plain plodding on the rest.
If TK steps his game up, with Seymour, then it all comes together. I am an inside out guy who has not been happy with the “inside” for several years.
All I am saying, its time for TK to man up.
Just like DMAC, DHB, Schilens and Michael Huff have to man up and start playing the doggone game.
JaDavis was a millstone around the neck of the Silver-N-Black to be sure….but he wasn’t the only reason this team has blown chunks the last few years.

A QBs best friends are the Oline and the WRs. In our case, to say we are still sorting those areas out would be kind.
Big question marks at C, RG, and RT for starters. To borrow a phrase from Jerry, to my untrained eye Satele and Carlisle have ZERO push. ZERO!
DHB and Murphy are promising 2nd year guys. Promising meaning we are still waiting on them. I actually believe they will arrive sooner than later, but at THIS time, it is what it is. Chaz and JLH are the two best WR options for our QB and for whatever reason, they are not on the field much.
Get Chaz, DMac, and JLH on the field at the same time and you might see a decent offense.
August 16th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
WHy are you guys so down on Jason Campbell?
If Schilens and Murphy are healthy….the O-line does a decent job and Bush is allowed to pound the rock…the offense should be somewhere between serviceable and decent.
Campbell won’t be the leading cause of any problems on that offense…..its up to receivers getting open and catching the damn ball and the o-line blocking
And having Hue Jackson call a modern offense

All Hue needs to do is run the football effectively….move the chains and mix it up when passing the ball and take advantage of mis matches.
Trying to force the ball down the field 80% of the time when calling pass plays would be stupid.
Hue needs to run an effective screen game as well to the RB’s and the fast WR’s like DHB, Ford and JLH and Miller.

August 16th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
If you don’t occasionally complete a 20 yard pass, screens and power runing isn’t going to be worth an ear of corn (especially with this line).
We saw this last year with Jamarcus. Without a dominant line, or at least the threat of completing a down the field pass play, all that short stuff is just going to get your WR’s killed, and your RB ubber frustrated.
August 16th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
I always thought a QB’s best friend was a stud RB.

Westbrook just signed with the 49er’s a good fit. With Coffee retiring Westbrook will see playing time backing up Gore. Should Gore get injured HC Singletary will have a quality back up in Westbrook. I told you Westbrook was going to sign with the 49er’s once Coffee announced his retirement, that the Niner’s are a playoff contender (at least winning their division) I do believe sealed the deal.

*******************************************************
You can try but you cant get around the fact that the giants are a base 4-3 defense, and they use press man coverage behind it. Granted not as much press man as oakland, but its still the same concept. The patriots dont blitz as much as the steelers but it is still a zone blitzing 3-4! Face it base 4-3 with press cover does work in todays nfl………………………….
So who do you blame for screwing up the team we had when Gruden and Gannon were here?*************************************************
Gruden and Davis were to blame. Gruden wanted more control and more money, Davis did not want to budge. rather than letting gruden walk and get nothing Davis made the only move he could ( besides giving gruden what he wanted) and traded him. I think in hindsight both men could have been more flexible.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
@ Ricochet,
Im afraid you missed missed my point. Davis spends the cash on guys he thinks will work. He isnt right all of the time but who is? You Cant have it both ways!!! Im saying i as a fan cant say that im glad davis is a gambler that spends on what he believes and then trash him when his picks and free agents dont work out. You win some and you lose some, i personally like Al’s river boat mentality, when we lose its ugly but when we win we win big.

Not a fan of Satele either, would like to see Jered get a series with the one’s this weekend (or at least with the 1-B’s).
But before I see Jered perform against some good competition, I’m not proclaiming the 6′8 rookie from Sean Hannity’s favorite D-II college a move in the right direction.

KoolKell, JFB,
If the Raiders go out here and try to recreate the 70’s and 80’s with the deep passing game and all…they will fail miserably.
If they go out there and recognize that running the ball and getting those short throws are the key and stick with that game plan…the team will be manageable.
THe offense still has a lot of holes in it. To expect it to look like the Colts is unrealistic.

Run the ball effectively, execute screens effectively, sustain drives, take what the defense will give you, and then pick your spots and take stabs deep!

This team is not built to be a long-drive team. Surely that is the way to go in the long-term, but what have you seen (crappy O-line, one RB, an unproven QB, crappy WR’s) makes you think we are going to go out and dominate offensively and control the clock?
Our best chance to score is to get 40+ yards on a play, not successfully string together 6 plays without a penalty or O-line gaffe, for 40 yards.
Sorry, until I see otherwise on the field with this team, your not going to change my opinion on this.

Forcing the ball downfield will get this offense and the whole team nowhere fast!
August 16th, 2010 at 4:44 pm
JFB,
This is a 13 to 17 point per game offense.
The key is not turning the ball over and not getting frustrated when the points don’t come right away.
Play great defense (which they are now capable of for the 1st time in a decade) keep the score low and try and gut out victories that way.
Maybe DHB comes on to the scene later in the year…or the O-Line surprises…then open it up.
But for now…they have to play the script…run, run, pass…no turnovers…get a few 1st downs…and let the defense keep you in the game.
Getting frustrated and forcing something that’s not there will lead to the b.s we saw last year.

It seems many think having a ‘vertical’ passing game means just throwing it long all the time.Nothing is further from the truth. The vertical game requires a good running game while taking your shots down the field at opportune times along with short and intermediate passes.
August 16th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Jason Campbell loooks like the complete QB to me he has a very balanced approach to the passing game.
I remember him from Auburn in his Junior and senior season but hadn’t seen him much at all as apro. But coming ut of college i thought he was better than Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers but most scouts didn’t agree with neither did the Raiders at the time. But I told them after 5 years that Campbell would be as good o better than the best of that trio. I saw him as a very complete QB with a vey good deep ball. I also thought that Rodgers was better than Alex Smith because both he and Campbell had played a senior year. But fo some reason most scouts liked Alex Smith athletic ability and the fact that he graduated as a redshirt soph. Well this is 6 years later and IMO they stack up Rodgers A, Campbell B and Smith a distant C. Rodgers is much better than I thought he would be maybe because he’s been in the same system I’m not sure. But this Jason Campbell is growing on me in leaps and bounds.

Well on a positive note. Let’s talk about what we saw from our Defensive line against the Cowboys.
I’m watching MNF right now, and our D-Line starters looks better than the NY Giants. When’s the last time we could make that claim.
Our defense will be something to watch this year.
If we can get effective, consistent play out of Seymour, Henderson, and Kelly this year we will be a top 10 defense.
If we can get that plus an effective CB opposite Nnamdi, we will be top 5.

If we can get after that QB like we did vs Dallas without the blitz I can’t see why people want to blitz just to say we blitz. Blitzing weakens your defense it doesn’t stengthen it. When you blitz you expose the defense in some way. It’s 100% better when you can get to the QB with the front4. That way you can deploy more bodies to coverage making the entire defense stronger.

Priest,
I agree with your post #170 100 percent.
That’s why I used the term EFFECTIVE blitzing. That doesn’t mean blitzing on every play. It means using your front four to get pressure but also DISGUISING your blitzes out of various formations, as well as blitzing at the correct times.
I’m completely confident that Marshall has a plan on how to implement and execute this effectively and I just hope that he will be allowed to.
A perfect example was after the San Diego home opener last season. After Murphy caught that TD on 4th and 10, in the 4th quarter, that was the time to unleash HELL on Phillip Rivers. But we didn’t and look at the result.
It’s like knocking your opponent down in the final round of a boxing match and then having him woozy and up against the ropes. But instead of going for the knockout, you step back and let him up off the ropes to regroup himself.
It makes no sense in boxing and it makes no sense in football.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
BHP,
I’m not calling Huff nothing. I think Huff had/ has the potential to be a great player in the right scheme. He was never a great tackler, but he has a nose for the ball & good hands, and he can cover. He needs to be moved around like we used Sir Charles. Play CB, NB, and FS. That will also allow Mitchell to play more.

Jim Zorn was awful, that’s about the only thing your neighbor is shooting you straight on.
JC needed a change of scenery, and this is it, and I TRULY HOPE he takes full advantage of it.
But I need to see it. His resume is drastically less than Aaron Brooks’ was when he arrived.
Play defense, great ST, the occasional good game from JC (because there will be a couple no doubt), and maybe a few games of some good run-blocking and we SHOULD win 10 games.

Buckeye,
I understand what you are saying, but Brayton was a DT at college. He played OLB at 6′6 285, and he ran a 4.8+ (too slow). Brayton was/is a base end.
The thing I fear when it doesn’t work that it may cause players to develop slower (Huff).

O,
Yeah the Brayton move to OLB…not so much. He was too big and lumbering for that move. Guy seems to have rebounded and is playing farly well in Carolina. Saw him make some plays the other night. The guy went a whole season at DE w/out a sack for Oakland. Unbelievable.
A lot of people compared the Scott move to the Brayton fiasco. I think Trevor Scott will have a lot more success outside. Little better athlete than Tyler. Actually played some TE in college. Seems more comfortable playing in space. I look for a big year for T. Scott. Nice pass rusher. We’ll see if he can hold up in coverage.

Another “Al Davis prototype player” whom Big Al somehow misses out on. Oh well.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:01 pm
If Chaz can’t stay healthy, I can see Al making a move for Plaxico, if he’s available. I don’t know what the latest on his early release hearings are.
Can’t remember where I read it, but supposedly Al really liked that kid coming out of Mich. State. Even though he’s not a burner.
Might make a nice, big target for JC.

Still, might be worth a shot. No pun intended.

Santonio Holmes is playing into the 2nd half.
Get DHB more snaps. He is not starter quality yet
August 16th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
Never mind….Santonio HOlmes on suspension.
Regardless, they got to get DHB snaps this preseason
August 16th, 2010 at 7:13 pm
SnB,
Holmes is playing. Suspensions don’t start until reg. season. Big Ben could’ve played the other night. Steelers decided to hold him out. Get other QB’s some snaps.
Agree about DHB, btw.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:20 pm
They should have DHB playing late into the game with the second and third team next weekend. Ease him into the pace of the game, which seems to still be overwhelming him.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
Buckeye,
Yeah, the Jets held out Holmes to 2nd half due to suspension.
As for the Raider receivers….they have to make sure these guys are getting meaningful work in these preseason games.
No way the “starters” DHB, Murphy, JLH should leave the game until they have had at least 2 or 3 passes thrown their way. I left Schilens out because he is such an injury risk you almost want to hold him out entirely

I said I was excited to watch Big Bruce Campbell in action for the first time. I thought he looked pretty good. No glaring screw ups. seemed to be getting good push in the running game.
I know he was playing against backups, but if Dallas truly is a preseason NFC super Bowl favorite, they should be fairly deep. Not like he was playing against total scrubs.
I saw one play where the DL threw him to the ground. But I think that was out of frustration because Big Bruce was whippin his azz. Kinda bush league, really.
Can’t wait to watch this guy against Da Bears.

…………
Ok then, let me rephrase. You refuse to blame Al for anything unless you blame someone along with him who deserves no blame. Gruden was within his every reasonable means to demand more money and control. First AFC West title in 10 years and first AFC championship game appearance in as many, and his demands were reasonable. You’d have to be insane to dispute Grudens’ monetary demands. As far as control goes, Jerry McDonald reported that Gruden only wanted to decide who the final 53 on the roster would be, of the hundred or so players Davis had acquired/retained in the off season. I’ll defer to him until you come up with a better source.

Jason Campbell loooks like the complete QB to me he has a very balanced approach to the passing game.
But coming ut of college i thought he was better than Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers but most scouts didn’t agree with neither did the Raiders at the time.
But I told them after 5 years that Campbell would be as good o better than the best of that trio.
I also thought that Rodgers was better than Alex Smith because both he and Campbell had played a senior year.
Well this is 6 years later and IMO they stack up Rodgers A, Campbell B and Smith a distant C.

I think the starters will play the entire 1st half vs. Chicago. Usually the 3rd preseason they come out for a series or two into the second half. The finale..just pray like hell nobody gets injured.
Hopefully, the passing game looks much more in synch on Sat.

August 16th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
I mean, a 6′6 WR who can still manage to run a 4.5- can be an insanely difficult weapon to defend against in goal line situations. I think the speedy Raiders receivers would benefit greatly from having a true possession receiver on the field as well.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
That week 3 game vs. SF oughta be fun. Since they play again in the reg season, they might tone it down a little.
But sometimes those Bay area rivalry preseason games are played pretty intensely. I think there is a real, and mutual dislike for one another. Can’t wait for that one.

As far as DHB is comcerned my opinion is they just want to make sure he gets to opening day healthy. He has been the star of the offseason so we just need to relax a little. IMO if they were really worried about his confidence they’re more worried about keeping him healthy as he gets his work in. Just my 2 cents

You have change coming from your 2 cent observation.
How can DHB be the STAR of the offseason?
How can you have a STAR IN THE OFFSEASON, WHEN everyone is hands off, and “be careful” and “don’t seperate their head from their shoulders”??
Practice means zero.
Now, he may, or may not step up and preform during games, but so far he has done zero.
Last year? Was the worst starting WR pretty much in the league..wasn’t he? I mean…THE WORST STARTING WR…so save that silly “not worried about his confidence”. Team sure as hell better be, because he tightens up like a drum when he knows a hit is coming.

If the defense doesn’t go vanilla and exclusively play that “beat your man we don’t need no stinkin scheme” stuff….this defense could be top 10…even top 5.
They appear to have a d-line that can get pressure, a middle linebacker that is smart and loves to hit…two OLBs that can stop the run and rush the passer, a budding strong safety, a decent FS..a serviceable CB and the best CB in the league (if they let move him around)

August 16th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
We will win every game our defense or special teams score a Touchdown. And our defense is very capable of scoring. Call me crazy but I see our D as more playmaking than the Saints D of last year. The Saints gave up chunks of yards but was + double digits in turnover margin.
Top 15% sounds about right but I’d be more into how many turnovers we get.
August 16th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Thec07
Like I said before the front7 of this defense is as good as there is in the league. Our backend is just as good. Great defense is great defense you can use all kinds of schemes to get that. But IMO if you can get great pressure from your front4 it makes your defense extemely tough to navigate. Because you can’t flood zones especially when you can matchup like we can. That’s why you saw so many sacks due to coverage.
But ultimately it comes down to our offense putting up points to allow the defense to play aggressively. But I see a top 6 defense if we can stay relatively healthy.

August 16th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
I like the depth that we have in the D Trench, that will make for an effective rotation during crunch time. Doubt we will be losing those last minute down to the wire games because we could not get pressure. Our front will be able to wear down starting Olines, thus limiting what they can, and cannot do.
Based on what I saw in the game, i would say ceiling is top 10…
August 16th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
We have a good secondary and a good LB core. Our D Line is its best in years. Our D will wreck havoc. I remember one of the best defenses ever down here in New Orleans in 1991.
The Dome Patrol might be the best set of LBs ever on one team. They had a good (not great) D-Line and the DBs were horrible. But the LBs were so good that QBs were just tossing up prayers to the WRs and anyone on this blog could have gotten a minimum 6 ints that year.
We are going to get those same toss ups from pressured QBs but like the other day, we will also get those coverage sacks. The Dome Patrol never got coverage sacks.

So check it, I’m slamming these here maitai’s and I’m looking at our schedule and the first 4 games of the year we got Tenn, St Louis, Arizona and Houston. Here’s what they did last year respectively in pass defense: 31st, 25th, 23rd, and 18th.
Keep throwing the damn ball all preseason. Hell, the first team can play the entire games if that’s what it takes. We HAVE to take advantage of these matchups early so that we can at least front like we’ve got a balanced offense when the schedule tightens up.
Practice, practice, practice!!

OK, so I went through the whole schedule and looked at every team for the past 2 years and low and behold we have a huge advantage if we can throw the ball this year!!
I know we’re ‘built’ to run but if we can be at least average with the pass and the run and give this defense the chance to swing the balance we could definitely be a playoff team. Eventually!!

504,
I know there are alot of Raider fans that are not happy with Cable. All I can say is under him, we have been able to stop the craziness of the past 7 years (yes I am predicting) and finally put a competitive team on the field. Cable is not an offensive guru by any means but he has delivered on building the team on the right kind of players that he preached.
Of most importance is Cable’s ability to make it work with Al Davis so far. Singletary would have clashed with Davis. We are all stuck with Al Davis so that is why I give Cable lots of credit for making it work so far.
August 16th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Fatt Kidd,
you dont sack the QB 3 times on 1 drive and pretty much shut down the starting lineup’s running game. This is against a SB contender Dallas Cowboys. To predict we will be ranked 30th is crazy.
2 of those 3 sacks in the first drive was because of secondary coverage. In the past, we would not be able to get to the QB even with the secondary shutting them down. Now we got 3 guys that can get to them in Houston, Shonasty and Scott.

SeymourGlenChipStevens, did you watch the game last Thursday? They sent Murphy deep 2 times. Possession receivers don’t go deep. We dont have a possession receiver. Schilens cant be considered any type of receiver at this point.

Shilens and Murphy are the possession receivers for the Raiders. They play the same position. Not understanding that is like saying Ray Lewis should play outside just because he is good. Doesn’t work that way.

No small wonder that these exact two, who used to post all day to each other, using dozens of handles a day, are the reason this board changed to registration…both are too slow to figure out how to cover their tracks.

Oh, just shut up with all of your loud mouth theatrics. And, yes, just so you know, proof is one of the burdens of making a claim against someone. Prove I’m posting under any name other than the one you see right here, or keep just insisting that you know I do, just like priest or Oakglenn would insist something about something Raiders. If a hunch is all you have that I’m posting under other names, then why should anyone believe you’re not posting under multiple names? You’ve proven you’ll do anything to antagonize people. You don’t have any point of view, on ANYTHING. You fit the profile of someone who cross posts more than anyone in here. Punk.
August 16th, 2010 at 11:44 pm
BTW, Richochet, it’s actually a proven fact that YOU are an idiot. Didn’t you say the team will still be improved even if they finished with the same record, just because Russell’s gone? IDIOTIC! Tie that in with the fact that you’re accusing people right now of cross posting without a shred of proof and I think that pretty much proves, AS FACT, that you’re an idiot. But keep going, though. Keep helping my case.

OK that is it I can’t take it!!!!!
Routt has been getting toasted for years now he is sorry and he sucks period!!! Kelly with or w/o wait sucks!!! He has not lived up to his contract he is not even close. We need to learn how to cut ties quicker and stop marrying these stupid ideal players. This would be the last year for both of these guys. These project players cost to much and take to long to develop. We could of had a veteran WR and a starting tackle for Kelly’s contract.
I hope McFadden and Ware develop and we cut Routt as soon as next year. Routt is my most despised Raider. He gets his @$$ kicked every Sunday. Hiram Eugene is just a step up form him in sucks!

it’s basically on him to perform better than Kelly at UT and motivate Kelly to play NT better than Warren
if the Seymour/Kelly duo isn’t much better than the Kelly/Warren duo was, McClain won’t have the opportunities he needs to be a playmaker, enforcer.
I’m holding out hope for Kelly, but this season is his last shot imo. 7 years with 1 team and played 3 different positions, none of them at a high level (yet)
if the guy finally decides to start playing football, I’m all for it. he certainly talks a good game, but what if we finish 27th-31st against the run again ???

University of Northern Iowa head football coach Mark Farley has added three assistants to his coaching staff for the 2010 season, including former All-American quarterback Eric Sanders.
Eric Sanders, a native of Oelwein, Iowa, will be an offensive assistant coach for the Panthers in 2010. Sanders enjoyed a stellar career for the Panthers at quarterback from 2004-2007. After earning his degree in business administration from UNI in 2008, Sanders joined the coaching staff at Syracuse University as a graduate assistant coach in 2008 and 2009. At Syracuse he assisted the offense and worked primarily with the quarterbacks. While with the Orange, he worked under head coaches Greg Robinson and Doug Marrone. As a quarterback for the Panthers from 2004-2007, Sanders guided UNI to a record of 35-9 as a starter. He led the Panthers to 12 fourth-quarter or overtime victories in his career. He capped his playing career in 2007 as he led the Panthers to a perfect 12-0 regular season and No. 1 national ranking. Sanders was the runner-up in the 2007 Walter Payton Award balloting. Sanders holds the FCS career record for completion percentage (69.59 percent).

Our offense still scares me man. O-line still seems weak and no reliable WRs. Murphy still drops to many, DHB gets lost in the game, Chaz always sporting aboot on the sideline, JLH always getting drilled, Watkins great attitude, will catch the ball but average skill level. Jacoby Ford not a proven player in the NFL. Nick Miller may not even make the team again. If we loose Zach Miller during the course of a season. Game over!
We still shoulde have picked up a proven veteran WR in my mind.
August 17th, 2010 at 7:52 am
Trade Dmac, Schilens for some OL help.
DHB, i like his attitude and work ethic, and Al’s gonna keep him on the roster 3-4 years to make sure first, but overall our offense is worrisome, and we’d probably be better off if we scored a few OL out of a Dmac/Schilens/DHB trade and signed some vet like Plaxico or whomever else actually has proven NFL skills.
August 17th, 2010 at 7:55 am

It’s like polishing a terd, the raiders Offense.
We all know Al’s gonna hold onto dmac, schilens and dhb. But really, we all know the problem…the OL and lack of NFL-caliber proven receivers.
Bush, bennett, cartwright arent spectacular but i bet the last two are tough enough to get some yards and play to an NFL-standard.
Schilens is good but just the constant injuries. Especially bone problems in feet, they can keep re-occuring or not healing.
DHB i like him, and really WRs deserve about 3 years to “get it”. I wouldnt want to trade him but really, he shouldnt start, only get a few snaps a game until (if ever) he “gets it”, becomes a play-maker, you know, one who commands the ball.
My point overall being that OL is most important (obviously) and we’re getting sick of this BS offense and the porous OL. It’s not impossible to build a top OL. And it is that which makes the biggest difference. Look at Brady pre-Moss when his OL gave him 5-8 secs in the pocket to hit scrub receivers all day/season.
NFL-caliber/proven WR like Plaxico or whomever to start opposite Murphy, plus 2 good OLmen (with Veld/Bruce rising over time) would immediately bolster this sub-standard offense we STILL have and have had for about 4 years now.
Cant keep neglecting the OL, cant pass over top young OL talent year in year out for the “sexy” picks. Cant keep patching it up with OL players who would be back-ups on better NFL teams but are starters on ours.

The difference is these first rounders get paid so much these days they are expected to contribute at a high level immediately, rightfully so, since they ARE the highest paid guys on the team. They just dont get time to develope anymore

DMC is another player who is not being used right. They guy is a great talent, he can run and catch, but we haven’t developed him yet.
IMO Bush & DMC can be the best RBs in the game. They have great talent, and had good #s at college, and both were considered top 10 draft picks (before Bush broke his leg)
Cable and OL sucks!!
Trade Mich for a 5 yard run by DMC!!

We still shoulde have picked up a proven veteran WR in my mind.

CJ: Agreed
I wanted Muhsin Muhammad, instead we drafted Jacoby Ford!
return guys are dime a dozen (Cartwright, Figurs, NMiller, Bodiford) you see?
same with Justin Miller, Chris Carr & Doug Gabriel a while back …
Last thing this team needed was another young speedster for Sanjay friggin Lal to groom!
the “vets” were drafted in 2007 after JaWalrus – Higgins & Schilens
these guys have a COMBINED 72 catches & 11 TD’s in 3 seasons!

Cant keep neglecting the OL, cant pass over top young OL talent year in year out for the “sexy” picks. Cant keep patching it up with OL players who would be back-ups on better NFL teams but are starters on ours.
***
GG: couldn’t agree more
would anybody besides Robert Gallery start on another team’s o-line?
Al Davis loves to scour the free agent pool for players that nobody else wants that he thinks fit the system.
Tom Cable thinks he can milk production out of any 5 clowns Al Davis brings him. Just start the best 5
bad comination …
how did Norv Turner persuade Al Davis to draft Gallery & Grove in the first 2 rounds? that needs to happen again next year in RD2 & RD3

You wouldn’t think it after my previous post, but im often with friends saying just what youre saying here. I know WRs take a handful of years to develop. WR is difficult, it’s like a 2nd QB on the field. One should always give WRs 3 years imo. You’d wanna see some marked improvement by that 3rd year (meaning they can handle starting in multiple packages from down to down) start seeing stats like 4 recs for 40 yards from them from half-use in a game.
Anyway, I like DHB, his character/attitude. And i know Dmac and Schilens are also good character guys too. It’s only the frustration with the injuries. Dmac behind a better OL and a 200 yard passing game would be far more effective and get a lot of hype. But again, it’s the injuries thing. Schilens is a natural, but it’s all those damned injuries.
Again with Dmac it comes down to OL tho and a vet WR, and everything would be better. Just thinking about it in the “big picture” sense. That it’s so crucial (OL), that probably even if we traded Dmac/Schilens for 2 OL and acquired a vet WR to start, i bet you’d see a much more improved offense. Bush/Benn/Cart all still able to pound the ball for 3 and 4 yards. And Campbell (finally we have a competent QB now), time in the pocket to hit reliable NFL-caliber receivers who stay healthy like Z.Miller and nameless vet WR.
Or….you can hold onto Dmac, Schilens, talent, but the whole offense hindered by that sub-par OL. Multiple 3 and outs, broken protection, WRs not getting open, defenses able to press and stack the box against Dmac and see some fumbles and niggling shoulder injuries etc etc etc.

Gruden and Davis were to blame. Gruden wanted more control and more money, Davis did not want to budge.
*******************************************************
First off why are you making the claim that I dont blame davis for his mistakes unless i can throw someone in with him? This is not true. I have been extremely critical of some of his head scratchers; norv turner, mike white joe bugel, jeff george, harvey williams, deangelo hall, the list goes on. You can try all you want but i must go back to my statement, Davis deserves credit win he gets it right!!!! Just as he deserves blame when he blows it!!!!!
By the way I was a huge chucky fan, but chuky needed to shut up and coach.
1.) you are not going to get final say on the roster when you work for AL. Al is a football man, knows the game, and its his damn team!!! he has the right to agree , disagree veto, or trade you! There are plenty of coaches in the nfl that have input without having the final say. Besides he was winning while using Davis’s players, and was able to influence Al enough to get the guys he wanted as well.
2.) Of course Gruden has right to ask for more money, however, Davis is under no obligation to give it to him.
3.) In my opinion Gruden wanted out so he could have total control ( ego ), so he demanded a sum that he knew Davis would never pay. Well we know what happened next. he took over Dungy’s super bowl ready team, won the big one, and it was a slow grinding crash and burn afterward, as his personnel decisions took him from being the fan favorite chucky to just plain old upchuck!

Henderson pushing himself to improve
(08-15) 20:16 PDT — Passing drills have taken on a heightened sense of importance for Raiders left tackle Mario Henderson lately. Because, though the quarterback doesn’t get hit when Henderson makes a mistake, Henderson does have to hit the turf.
To do 50 push-ups.
Coach Tom Cable wants Henderson to improve and speed up his footwork, so to hammer that home, Cable is making his starting left tackle do 50 push-ups every time he makes a mistake. He did two sets Sunday in Napa.
“It’s tough, man,” the fourth-year, 6-foot-7, 300-pounder said. “After I do that, my sets (are) straight. It’s no longer just a regular pass – now I am thinking if I don’t do this right, it’s 50 more push-ups. They are tough to do in the middle of a practice.”
Henderson said doing the push-ups helped him in the preseason opener against Dallas on Thursday.
“It gets you into good habits, and when you are playing tackle, playing well has to become a habit,” he said. “I have to not even think about it, to get to a certain spot with my hands in the right place.”
Cable did say that Henderson does a nice job in the running game, both frontside and backside, and that he looks good on play-action plays.
“The other things I like,” Cable said. “I’m talking specifically about being a dropback pass protector in that one-on-one game.”

I have been a Raders fan since the late 80’s. I was amazed by the verticle attack and the way we had RBs that could score from any place on the field.
Oh and then you jump on the D side of the ball and we always had DBs that were not just fast, they would knock you out.
I always thought it was so cold how Al davis would take an older well seasoned vet with a little gas in his tank, let them know how much he thought of them and they would put on that cold silver and black and give you all they had last. Ronnie Lott was like an ancient warrior in that silver and black. He lost a step, but he still hit hard and put it all on the line.
No I have been on this boat a little longer than 2.

Raiders’ Kelly sheds excess baby weight
Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly admits he didn’t have a good year last season.
So he looked at himself in the mirror and saw a fat man staring at him.
“Yeah, I had a baby in this stomach last year,” Kelly said Monday. “So, I kind of had my baby. When I came in for (offseason practices), I was about 315. Last year, I was about 350.”
Kelly was asked if he felt pressure from the big contract ($18 million guaranteed) Oakland gave him two years ago.
“You’ve just got to take on the challenge. … With this game, as long as you put in your work in the offseason … it’s going to give back to you what you put into it.”

Jason Campbell threw 15 INT’s and fumbled 13 times last year (losing 3)
he does need to take better care of the football!

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Let’s just move on ahead; simply ignore the trash and it will eventually get taken out. Back to the punishment and push-ups, I think the whole team should be required to do “X” number of push-ups for every offside penalty during a game. If we set it at 50 per, we’ll either cut way down on the number, or our guys will have the strongest forearms in the league!

Bob G: “sure we have short arms, but they are the largest”!

Richard Seymour
Lamar Houston
Matt Shaunessy
Trevor Scott
J Richardson
With all the rotations available on the D-Line……..

Who else needs to be doing push-ups this training camp?
***
Walker & Veldheer had false starts against Dallas and Satele gave up our only sack (to a Dallas backup!)
August 17th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
J Rich should make it down to the last round of cuts. I think he’s better than both Coop and Gunny, but it will all come down to injuries and need. We have a lot of good young players in camp this year – no Stryker Sulak!

I would throw CJ in there as well for the toasting he received.

Kell: I think Kelly, Bryant & Joseph could play DE too if we needed them to
maybe we would be ok without J-Rich?
how long is he expected out with that surgery ???

Trade Stanford Routt for a guy who can do 100 push-ups!

Tom Brady is getting upset
Posted by Mike Florio (PFT)
The great George Costanza once explained that the perception of hard work will arise from the constant projection of annoyance.
Maybe Pats quarterback Tom Brady is giving Costanza’s approach a try.
As our pal Tom Curran of CSNNE.com explains it, Brady says he has become more impatient in 2010 because somebody has to show impatience on the team.
“If the quarterback won’t do it, then who will do it?” Brady said. “That’s how I always think about. So, if it’s like, ‘Hey guys, it’s all right. It was a [shoddy] play, but we’ll get the next one.’ That’s not the way it works.”
In a joint practice with the Falcons, Brady showed his frustration by letting coach Rex Ryan’s favorite word fly.
Brady presumably hopes that others will follow his lead, and not simply by persuading them to refer to everyone as sons of b1tches, or to call babies “cute little b@stards.”

I hate the Pats, but I like this approach … sort of Gannonesque
I might draft this dude in FF after all

Who cares if Stan can do 100 pushups, as long as he can carry his jock strap around after he gets faked out of it!
August 17th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Shaunessy seems to be a better pass rusher than Richardson. I don’t think richardson really distinguished himself in his time, solid yes.

One of his biggest knocks is he was a drive killer..seemingly at the worst times.
Sounds familiar, unfortunately.

Rich: he didn’t impress me against Dallas
nobody wanted him for even a 5th rounder on draft day
Al Davis probably could have got him for next’s year’s 6th instead of a 4th in 2012…
he’s certainly an upgrade over JaMarcus.
3600 yards & 20 TD’s would be awesome this year, if he didn’t have 18 turnovers to go with it

Kind of a catch22.
We’re at the “certainly an upgrade over JR”, which isn’t exactly warm and fuzzies, ya know?
I mean, isn’t everyone an upgrade over JR?

Speaking of the game, why the hell did Cable take out DHB after one play?
Made no sense. He needed to get him past his jitters and settle in.
After that big buildup, now he’s back to being antsy, and wanting to prove himself.
You blew it, Cable.
Again.

Why would I get banned for posting a phantom address, fat boy?
=========================
Quit acting stupid.
You posted someone’s address from a phone number on your caller ID..YOU ADMITTED IT, YOU MORON.
Wasn’t my address, YOU MORON.
The fact you posted anyone’s address got you banned, I assume. Probably was encouraging you to get off your azz and go work.
