Schilens may need knee surgery

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at 12:22 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Turns out the reason Chaz Schilens has been missing practice lately isn’t because of his surgically-repaired foot.

Coach Tom Cable told reporters on a conference call Monday Schilens may need an arthroscopic procedure on his knee.

“I’m very concerned. It’s been a tough road for him,” Cable said. “We get through the foot thing now and something else has kind of reared up on us. We’ll take care of it and get him back as soon as we can.”

Cable said he would know more in the afternoon, which means the media won’t be briefed until after Tuesday’s 3:30 p.m. practice.

The knee problem, Cable said, was related to his foot issues.

“It sounds like something that was overcompensation for the foot to be honest with you.”

More won’t be known regarding Samson Satele’s ankle problem until Tuesday.

More to come . . .

Hey 4eva…whats up, bro? Here iswhat I found on Grads…

Beat writer Vittorio Tafur suggests that Bruce Gradkowski is on the roster bubble.
Gradkowski’s lingering groin injury has allowed Kyle Boller to push for the No. 2 job and Colt Brennan is at least youthful as a No. 3. Tafur points out that the Raiders could save $1.4 million by cutting Gradkowski. All three of these backups are fringe NFL quarterbacks at best.

I’m giving up hope with Schillenz. This was the same story last year. We hope he can recover in time for the season opener. He wont. He is going to take forever to recover and will be seeing limited playing time come week 11. By then, the team will either be established or suck to a point where nobody cares about his return

As much credit we are giving the defense and the team..we have to also be balanced and look at the weaknesses.

    JWiggle,

We are finding out how a 6′4 225lbs receiver with good hands and 4.4 speed lasted until the 7th round.

Sometimes things aren’t meant to be. That’s life. I hope Schilens can get it together but the Raiders have to start making personnel decisions with the assumption that this guy is not going to be around.

Foot problems, knee problems, shoulder problems and on and on and on.

Like I said, sometimes its just not meant to be and there is another plan in store for him.

Hwnrdr: Glasskowski trade comment was intended for JFB (Vegas) – just bad timing on my part, he wasn’t around

trade would make sense though. Steelers need a QB. We’d get our pick back from the Campbell trade. Boller deserves the #2 job. best game Bruce ever had was against the Steelers last year and it’s not far from home for him

    Makes no sense.

Raids will carry 3 QBs. They’re going to save peanuts if they dump Grad’s 1.4 million salary bcz they’ll still have to pay his replacement.

Vitto is talking out of his butt.

Besides, Gradkowski is a better backup than Boller anyways.

Only way this is true is if Grad’s groin injury is actually something more severe like a sports hernia and Raids feel he’s going to be as reliable as Schillens.

He’s too damn fragile. In any event, he’s history. Just put his ass on IR and let’s move on. You can work him out again next year. Maybe he will have healed by then – probably not. Let’s NOT hold a 53 slot for him hoping for participation this year.

  67. edward teach Says:

    SnB,

The Bears rushed for 85 yards on 24 carries if you take out the one Forte run. That’s 3.5 yards per carry.

I’m not excusing the 89 yarder, just saying that when you mention that the Bears averaged 7 yards per carry against us it’s not really representative of what really went on out there. Run defense so far is way ahead of last year, mainly because the front 7 is vastly improved and we have linebackers that can play the run for a change. Sure, McClain made a mistake there but he’s a (smart) rookie and will learn from it. Des Bryant is no Richard Seymour, either. He is promising, but needs to develop further before he can be deemed reliable in there.

I’m much more concerned with the offensive line and our struggles completing downfield passes, to be honest. Our receivers need to start catching some balls. There have been more than a few these past two weeks that should have been caught, contested or not.
