Schilens may need knee surgery

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at 12:22 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Turns out the reason Chaz Schilens has been missing practice lately isn’t because of his surgically-repaired foot.

Coach Tom Cable told reporters on a conference call Monday Schilens may need an arthroscopic procedure on his knee.

“I’m very concerned. It’s been a tough road for him,” Cable said. “We get through the foot thing now and something else has kind of reared up on us. We’ll take care of it and get him back as soon as we can.”

Cable said he would know more in the afternoon, which means the media won’t be briefed until after Tuesday’s 3:30 p.m. practice.

The knee problem, Cable said, was related to his foot issues.

“It sounds like something that was overcompensation for the foot to be honest with you.”

More won’t be known regarding Samson Satele’s ankle problem until Tuesday.

More to come . . .

Whoever said that Al should make the trade for Jackson…I agree, but at what price??? If Chaz cannot be healthy for a whole season, they have to do something!!!
    ——————

The rumor is SD was only asking for a 2nd RD pick from Seattle when they were talking with Jackson’s agent. The problem was that Jackson wants a big deal. We all know Al has no problem spending money when he wants to…come on AL, make it happen!!!

Sticking point to the deal was not hte second round pick. His tender was dor a 1st and third. the desal breaker for the sea was he wanted 30 mil guar…

Beat writer Vittorio Tafur suggests that Bruce Gradkowski is on the roster bubble.
Gradkowski’s lingering groin injury has allowed Kyle Boller to push for the No. 2 job and Colt Brennan is at least youthful as a No. 3. Tafur points out that the Raiders could save $1.4 million by cutting Gradkowski. All three of these backups are fringe NFL quarterbacks at best.

    ============================================
    Makes no sense.

Raids will carry 3 QBs. They’re going to save peanuts if they dump Grad’s 1.4 million salary bcz they’ll still have to pay his replacement.

Vitto is talking out of his butt.

Besides, Gradkowski is a better backup than Boller anyways.

Only way this is true is if Grad’s groin injury is actually something more severe like a sports hernia and Raids feel he’s going to be as reliable as Schillens.

    ^^^^^^^^
Gotta keep Grads on the roster and send Brennan to the practice squad if possible. Frye is done and Boller is in!

Hey Bo…rumor is that Plax is getting out and wants to play again!!! But…if Al didn’t push for T.O., doubtful he would push for Plax…but I have seen stranger things!!! As we all have.

We’re not comparing him to JaMarcus Russell this year, so he may go back to looking ordinary, or average (3rd string journeyman)

    and neither is Hue Jackson

send Brennan to the practice squad if possible.

Another Raider hurt. Big surprise, from the most poorly conditioned team in the league.

Wrong again. Buffalo is CLEARLY the most poorly conditioned team in football, hence them leading the NFL in players on IR 3 or 4 years in a row.

San Diego is not entertaining trade offers from anyone other than Seattle. Per Peter King on todays MMQB…

So Schilens now needs knee surgery. C’mon Cable, how do you screw up your knee while watching practice? As great a prospect this guy might have been, he just can’t stay healthy. He’s too damn fragile. In any event, he’s history. Just put his ass on IR and let’s move on. You can work him out again next year. Maybe he will have healed by then – probably not. Let’s NOT hold a 53 slot for him hoping for participation this year.

We should have taken TO when we had the shot.

The 1st/3rd tender is not an issue…he signs the tender with SD, then a sign and trade to who ever wants him. 30 million guaranteed is nothing to Al(see JR, Javon, Wilson, etc.)…make it happen!!!

    SnB,

The Bears rushed for 85 yards on 24 carries if you take out the one Forte run. That’s 3.5 yards per carry.

I’m not excusing the 89 yarder, just saying that when you mention that the Bears averaged 7 yards per carry against us it’s not really representative of what really went on out there. Run defense so far is way ahead of last year, mainly because the front 7 is vastly improved and we have linebackers that can play the run for a change. Sure, McClain made a mistake there but he’s a (smart) rookie and will learn from it. Des Bryant is no Richard Seymour, either. He is promising, but needs to develop further before he can be deemed reliable in there.

I’m much more concerned with the offensive line and our struggles completing downfield passes, to be honest. Our receivers need to start catching some balls. There have been more than a few these past two weeks that should have been caught, contested or not.

I sure hope this is a sign of a great season! It would be fun again for sure!

  • GhostToMost

A lot of people keep saying that Schilens is going to be great once he gets healthy. But sadly Im beginning to suspect that he never will.

  • morilla

F-in christ get rid of him.

  • JLofty

Plaxico would be a HUGE pickup for us. No down side, nothing to give up.
Guy shot himself in the foot, literally. Wasn’t a rapist or woman beater, nor a dog killer or drug addict.
So he carried a loaded firearm into a nightclub and managed to discharge it into hisself. Dumb but not unforgivable.
I would be on board with that for sure.
    Get Plax Al!!!

  • djohnnyg

Screw Schilens. I’m so sick of hearing about his “injuries” and how he can’t do this, can’t do that all the damn time.

I’m convinced he will NEVER be healthy so to hell with him.

  • djohnnyg

“The more accurate question would be “who isn’t?”

I’m not. I couldn’t care less what that guy thinks or says. He is borderline psychotic, if not full blown. He spends all his spare time spewing anti Al Davis rhetoric on a forum of a team he hates and then has the nerve to say “we” when referring to the team he despises. Nobody who says the stuff he does about the Raiders could possibly be a “fan”, and all he spews is hate and vitriol. Who needs that. Just ignore him.
