Schilens may need knee surgery

Turns out the reason Chaz Schilens has been missing practice lately isn’t because of his surgically-repaired foot.

Coach Tom Cable told reporters on a conference call Monday Schilens may need an arthroscopic procedure on his knee.

“I’m very concerned. It’s been a tough road for him,” Cable said. “We get through the foot thing now and something else has kind of reared up on us. We’ll take care of it and get him back as soon as we can.”

Cable said he would know more in the afternoon, which means the media won’t be briefed until after Tuesday’s 3:30 p.m. practice.

The knee problem, Cable said, was related to his foot issues.

“It sounds like something that was overcompensation for the foot to be honest with you.”

More won’t be known regarding Samson Satele’s ankle problem until Tuesday.

More to come . . .

Time to move on ~ said it would have been a bonus if he was ready anyway.

Murphy will start in Schilens “spot”

DHB better man up and be a serviceable receiver.

Hey 4eva…whats up, bro? Here iswhat I found on Grads…

Beat writer Vittorio Tafur suggests that Bruce Gradkowski is on the roster bubble.
Gradkowski’s lingering groin injury has allowed Kyle Boller to push for the No. 2 job and Colt Brennan is at least youthful as a No. 3. Tafur points out that the Raiders could save $1.4 million by cutting Gradkowski. All three of these backups are fringe NFL quarterbacks at best.

    no Chaz? no big deal

Heyward-Bey & Murphy will start (again)

Higgins, Watkins & Ford are locks.

Figurs or NMiller will make the squad if Chaz starts on the PUP list

S&B: the DT filling in for Richard Seymour (A gap) on that Forte TD was the undrafted Harvard kid – Desmond Bryant

I said 8 games max this year from Chaz, but damn man, this is just ridiculous!

Rockstar…where did you see that? Just wondering…because I love Grads for his work ethic, but that also gives my boy Colt a shot to make the team now…but still…I will take experience any day…

6 or 7 WR’s will be keep now….possibly until Chaz can come back?

they could also put him the PUP list. I cant remember how long he would have be on there…4 or 6 weeks I think? At least it would open up another roster spot for a healthy body.

Al needs to swoop in for Vincent Jackson right now! I could easily forget about Chaz if that move is made…

  • chrispiercreme

I’m giving up hope with Schillenz. This was the same story last year. We hope he can recover in time for the season opener. He wont. He is going to take forever to recover and will be seeing limited playing time come week 11. By then, the team will either be established or suck to a point where nobody cares about his return

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Rockstar,

I am not parcelling out blame here….NFL Writer Pat Kirwin seemed to suggest that if Seymour was in there that the 89 yard run would have been blown up.

D-Line is looking good this year…but those lapses have to stop.

As much credit we are giving the defense and the team..we have to also be balanced and look at the weaknesses.

Run defense still needs some work

    JWiggle,

We are finding out how a 6’4 225lbs receiver with good hands and 4.4 speed lasted until the 7th round.

Sometimes things aren’t meant to be. That’s life. I hope Schilens can get it together but the Raiders have to start making personnel decisions with the assumption that this guy is not going to be around.

Foot problems, knee problems, shoulder problems and on and on and on.

Like I said, sometimes its just not meant to be and there is another plan in store for him.

  • hwnrdr

Whoever said that Al should make the trade for Jackson…I agree, but at what price??? If Chaz cannot be healthy for a whole season, they have to do something!!!

  • RaiderRockstar

Arman Shields is only 25 years old and ran a 4.37 forty (2nd fastest at the combine)

the Raiders are looking to add a WR.

    LOOK OUT!

Hwnrdr: Glasskowski trade comment was intended for JFB (Vegas) – just bad timing on my part, he wasn’t around

trade would make sense though. Steelers need a QB. We’d get our pick back from the Campbell trade. Boller deserves the #2 job. best game Bruce ever had was against the Steelers last year and it’s not far from home for him

    Makes no sense.

Raids will carry 3 QBs. They’re going to save peanuts if they dump Grad’s 1.4 million salary bcz they’ll still have to pay his replacement.

Vitto is talking out of his butt.

Besides, Gradkowski is a better backup than Boller anyways.

Only way this is true is if Grad’s groin injury is actually something more severe like a sports hernia and Raids feel he’s going to be as reliable as Schillens.

The rumor is SD was only asking for a 2nd RD pick from Seattle when they were talking with Jackson’s agent. The problem was that Jackson wants a big deal. We all know Al has no problem spending money when he wants to…come on AL, make it happen!!!

Another Raider hurt. Big surprise, from the most poorly conditioned team in the league.

  • DKnight007

Raiders should look to Trade Thomas Howard to the Giants for Mario Manningham!

  • DKnight007

Raiders have plenty of depth at LB to try and make a deal for a WR.

  • RaiderRockstar

RM99: Bruce shredded both knees last year

torn pec and groin strain this offseason.

who knows if he’ll come back and be the same guy we saw against the Steelers last year?

We’re not comparing him to JaMarcus Russell this year, so he may go back to looking ordinary, or average (3rd string journeyman)

I don’t think I am signing Vincent Jackson or anybody at this point. Go to battle with the army you got…….

Murphy will be fine….between DHB and JLH, they can man the flanker spot.

Zach Miller will be the man as expected. THe Raiders are running screen pays effectively so that will help as well.

What will really be the biggest help is if DHB can play a little more like his draft status……

    1 Austin Collie IND WR 60 676 11.3
    1 Percy Harvin MIN WR 60 790 13.2
