Campbell, Bush updates

A few highlights from Tom Cable’s conference call:

– Quarterback Jason Campbell has a right wrist injury that is more significant at this point than his stinger. It happened on the series previous to the one in which he was injured. He’s had an MRI and X-rays and Cable said it will be evaluated this week.

– Running back Michael Bush will have a “procdure” on his fractured left thumb but wont’ necessarily miss the opener. Cable said Bush would be “protected” but not with a cast.

– Chaz Schilens’ arthroscopic knee surgery is a “three to six week issue.” Cable said he’d be questionable for the opener, meaning he’s more than likely out.

– Cornerback Chris Johnson and center Samson Satele will practice this week. Both have been been challenged for their starting positions, Johnson by Stanford Routt, Satele by Jared Veldheer.

– Veldheer earned mixed reviews from Cable on his starting debut. He will play both center and tackle this week, an indication Satele is probably still the front-runner.

– Cornerback Joey Thomas (concussion) and defensive tackle Desmond Bryant (elbow) are day to day. Neither Jay Richardson (knee) or Alex Daniels will be ready to play in the next preseason game.

More to come . . .

I blame Cable for pussifying our O-line. The ZBS is not Raider tradition & success.EVERY great Raider team had a kicka$$ power-blocking O-line. Who’s idea was it to change what was working for us? W used to be the ones handing out the beatings in the trenches. That’s not happening ever since the ZBS arrived. It’s time for a change – back to what works. I wonder if Tom Cable/Jim Michalczik knows how to coach power blocking? If not, we need to fix that too.

  • LT DAN

I am sure they know power blocking. All that means is lead, power, maybe counter or trap and toss sweeps.

    Good post #11!
Dmac can be kept as a change of pace back for screens, outside runs etc. and in motion to go as a receiver. Can utilize him like that.

Grads looked pretty darned good coming in there. But looks similar with too many dropped passes including one which would have won us the game.

………………………….36 million reasons not too keep dmac $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$and there all dollars that can be used too get other quality players

I have a sick feeling that the injury will linger at the least.

Well, I hope you Gradkowski supporters know something the entire league doesn’t.

I hope he’s the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner.

I just don’t think the Raiders are that lucky!

  • Kirk

Sorry, Priestj, but the last 6 years show that Al has no idea what he is doing. You can’t stock your O line with low draft picks and rejects and expect to win.

  • Kirk

I agree JB. The ZBS is bulls…

  • priesttj

We’re already using some power blocking technigues our OG’s are already pulling and trapping it’s just a matter continuing the migration. That’s why I say it’s time to go with Campbell because that’s his strength. Carlisle is more of a technician while Campbell is more drive blocking and pulling. I see Campbell starting by midseason if not sooner.

Agreed! Never, EVER liked this ZBS stuff. The biggest Al Davis criticism is his willingness to experiment with the WCO nonsense.

    Stick to smash mouth.

I wish he would allow Marshall the same freedom on the defense….getting sort of sick and tired of the safety getting blamed for the bad run defense around here.

Also, I hate that the O-Line is made up of castoffs. Always trying to outsmart the league.

These old vets…Carlisle, Barnes, Walker, Satele, Pears…we ENTHUSIASTICALLY sign these guys knowing damn well they are fringe players at best.

Then.,.surprise, surprise…we get the QB disabled. Now he’s goin to be hobbled with injuries the rest of the year and we once again have to rely on backups.

This league is too damn good to have to rely on backups to win over 16 games

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Could DMac play fullback? he doesn’t have trouble finding linebackers…

  • Norco Bob

TJ,…I feel that because of your sketchy history here,..you should be required to inform us all how much youve had to drink before you started posting,..oh F it,..we will be able to tell,..nevermind,..cheers! :)

  • LT DAN

I dont mean to start an argument but every team runs zbs. I dont think you can run only power game plays anymore. dline/lbs to big and fast to many stunts, blitzes, add all the different looks a def front will do and man blocking is gone. You can add some power run plays for GL or short yardage but thats it imo.

  • priesttj

Last 6 years don’t prove a damn thing except that the team as a whole hasn’t gotten it done. He drafte Gallery #2 overall he was a concensus top 5 pick. I think he’s drafted 4 OT’s in the 1st rnd in the last 10 years and 5 in the in the 2ndrnd on in the last 6 years including this past draft. So you just have no idea what your talking about. Veldheer was drafted to play OT as was Campbell.

  • armond

actually dmc put some quick jukes on those 2 passes he caught and ran for. he also broke the 1rst tackle that came his way. yall see what u want cuz u dont like him. there are several teams that would love to have dmc and teams that have good lines as well. notice how cc and veldheer got pushed back on their knees in which they clogged the running lane when he tripped? he tripped over their legs cuz they got pushed to far back especially cc. all this talk of him not having any lateral movement and being a 3rd dwn rb/wr is just ignorant.

  • Norco Bob

DMC best suited to be guy that sprints on field to retrieve tee after kickoffs. I said it first.

last night was not the end of the world i went to rhe game had a good time lifted a 8oz.bag of weed off someone who fell asleep on the bart.stoned for free and 28-24 is a close score not like we got blown out or something!!!!

  • J Wiggle

Veldheer and Campbell will be starting sooner than later. The thing is I think Hue will make the call as to who plays where. Satele is not as bad at his position as Carlisle is at RG or Henderson is at LT.

The Oline has more questions than answers at this point.

  • Kirk

Priestj, why do you make up stuff?

Davis hasn’t drafted 4 OTs in the first round in the last ten years. DBs maybe, but not OTs. The only OT drafted in the first round in the last ten years by the Raiders was Gallery, and he is our best offensive lineman. So thanks for proving my point.

I had a lot of promise for this season, Not sure what to think now. I am more worried about the Bush injury Than Campbells injury.

I would feel better if Al would surprise me and trade for Logan Mankins than Sign Antonio Bryant.
Is that to much to ask for? I figure he can use the $$ he saves from cutting McFadden on Mankins. Just Sayin

if j campbell goes on injury report and cant make the first game colt brennan just became a raider they wont cut any qbs.
